Anyone have any experience with midwayusa? Have a couple items in my cart there, just want some feedback before I pull the trigger.

Have ordered many times from them.
Extremely reputable and highly recommended.

Yep, Midway has been around a long time. I've ordered numerous things from them over the years, as well as Brownells and Numrich.

Don't ever mention "triage" to my wife.
Took her mother to ER, was triaged as not urgent and made to sit in ER for about an hour. About an hour and a half later (2.5 since arriving), she had expired from heart failure.

I was willing to pony up $2k.

Depends heavily on the model, This particular model was the Socom II, although I'm not against the classic wood stocks either. :tu

Two months ago on gunbroker, a $1500 gun. These days, closer to $2500. I figured $2k was fairly reasonable.

I love the AR10 too... I had just decided on an M1A. But at this point, I'd be quite happy with an AR10 as well.. although the M1a does have the advantage of not looking so "tactical" to the casual observer.

For those interested in the Shield in .40.
Not bad, only $25 above suggested retail.
Given no one else has it, worth the price.

Interesting looking at the (few) pistols that most websites still have in stock. The overall trend I see is .40 cal is still in stock. I can easily find Glock .40's of all varieties in stock, but most 9mm is sold out, even most 45 is sold out. Even 10mm and .357 sig is sold out! but .40 cal is still available!? ... pretty much the same story in the XD/XDM and M&P lines. Seems .40 is a tad less popular than I thought...

(bear in mind that the "nice" models of .40s like the one Carlos posted are still sold out in most places... but in something like 9mm, even the crappy models are 95% sold out across the board)

I think I can follow this, more or less, 1 is a sight/scope of some badass-proportion, 2) is something to do with the trigger mech? IDK lol, 3) a sling as in a body strap right?

I just buy whatever accessories I can get my hands on that are at a reasonable price, if they work they work, if not then I probably didn't really NEED it to begin with...

emopunker2004

lol @ Rob. The DD A1.5 is just a regular fixed rear sight, no scope or red dot. The ASAP is a mounting point for a sling and yes about the sling.

I added a new member to the family today. Glock 17 gen 4, lightly used. :D

I was really surprised actually, G17 fit my hand, but the 19 DIDN'T. I can't figure that one out... Once upon a time I had a G35 and got rid of it, just couldn't get it to balance right in my tiny hands. Same story for a lot of full size pistols for me... usually a "compact" model fits much better.

Bad business for such a small town, He will be back to selling guns on the gunbroker out of his garage like most of them fail around here. And yep it was a B&M gun store. I did really good with keeping my composure, Bad rep points will cost him much more in the long run.

YEP!

Honestly, I grew up in small business. I don't consider it gouging to put prices at market levels on things I should have already had. It's good business. BUT equally good business is being HONEST.

I don't actually have my G17 yet. Found it at my local gun store today. I didn't have time to do the paperwork, so I asked him to hold on to it. He put my name on a post-it-note and stuck it in the back, no questions asked. He expects and hopes I'll come back to buy it in a day. As for my part, I intend to buy it, even if I found it $20 cheaper somewhere else, because I told him I would. Plane, simple, honest business both ways.

In today's market, yes. In November they were $120... so if you can wait another 3-8 months, I'm sure they'll be $120 again...

For me, I needed to complete my build sooner rather than later, so I'm willing to pay the markup. But it's definitely not gouging, just the going rate today...

Just found another lower parts kit option on slickguns

$75 http://www.core15rifles.com/ar-15-lower-parts-kit-99599.html

That's just for the grip and lower receiver hardware, you'll still need to go find a buffer, tube, and stock, which will run you $65 for a basic one (at least the one I was looking at this morning, but it was from BCM).
Stay away from really cheap "amazon" buffer tubes, they can break too easily at the threads.

So overall, I'm still happy with my MOE purchase (since I wanted MOE furniture), but the other one is definitely an option for you, especially if you wanted a different grip or stock than the MOE.

That poor mosin :(

That's how I got it, Justin. It was gifted to me, was my first gun. My ( ex) uncle was a gunsmith and redid the whole rifle out of necessity. The stock is cherrywood from a tree his father and him had cut down. They saved some of the wood for stock and it stayed in the garage for some time. After his father had passed away, he built the rifle up completely from the Mosen receiver. He hunted with it for many years. It has the 1939 stamp with the hammer and sickle, and like most Mosen, likely fell more than deer in it's history.

Although not a worthy 70 year old museum piece any more, it also doesn't fire like one. Actually it's pretty badass. :banger

I was offered $3,000 cash before I was able to leave the FFL. that would have been a $1,600 profit for a 20 minute ride but can't do it in good conscious. I prefer the toy over the money. With the money, I will end up spending it and not have either.

:r I'm bringing my early Russian SKS to the show tomorrow. I never really liked the gun, but hung onto it because it wasn't worth enough to sell! Now it seems that it is... If it doesn't sell at the show tomorrow, I'll stick it on gunbroker Monday.

ouch... I'd like to think that for $3k, I would have done it... but ... given the scarcity of AR10's now... I might just have hung onto it!

But honestly, maybe you screwed that one up. You could have sold it, came home with the cash, and showed your wife just how the "investment" paid off. Then the next time you wanted permission to "invest" in a gun, imagine how easier it would have been :)

Believe me, I stood there frozen thinking about it.
My fear is exactly what you mention. I am afraid that with scarcity and pending potential legislation, may not get my hands on another.
Don't get me wrong, $1,600 would help out debt immensely but just could not do it.
If prices drop, will kick myself. If they don't, I may have an even bigger winner eventually when and if ready to part.

I'm thinking seriously about picking up a PTR-91 g.i. (HK-91 clone)
Not the sexiest thing in the world... but the price is REALLY fair - Brand new for $100 more than it was selling for last year. Mags are available and DIRT CHEAP (20rd mags all day long for $6).

GI version will do 3-4 moa and eat any ammo you feed it.
target version will do 1-2 moa, but its a picky eater...

I'm thinking the GI...

And if I find an M1A tomorrow at the show (yeah right! I can dream!) then I'll just flip the HK for the same I paid for it.

Yep. The lower is the gun as far as the ATF is concerned. The upper and anything else u can have sent right to u.

.308 ammo can still be found for pretty good prices. Put some iron sights on the 10 so u can shoot it.

Think of it this way, if a ban happens that maybe it! (And I don't think it will but keeping my fingers crossed) Before this sh-t started early in the month I had already ordered:

-XDS .45
- Spikes tactile black Assain (ar)

- Noveske gen 2 AR (lower)
-20 lancer L5 mags
-10 p mags
-ergo F93 stock
- Troy micro BUIS for my sig 556
- rear matech BUIS sight

That's just one months worth, I am kind of freaked out what I will do with myself if there are no more rifles or pistols I want :rolleyes:

What aspect of a caliber do you guys look for in a self defense round? I'm still looking around for a good handgun for self defense, and I like the 10mm auto round. All comes down to personal preference, from a knock down standpoint a .45 is the best round, I seem to think a 9mm is fine as I can carry 13 rounds in my compact M&P, I have seen 9mm rounds go clear through a guys head at 25 yards (he stopped his criminal behavior at that point). Penetration and size of wound cavity are important. Bigger bullet= bigger cavity. If its a carry gun get something u will actually carry. A .380 that's on u is better than a .45 at home. That said my carry gun is a kahr cw45 in 45acp.

Had my first KB! Not too bad, it was more of a case rupture. But it's kinda funny how it played out. All was shooting fine then all of a sudden the mag falls out of the gun, I look down and just did a, wtf again? Then all of sudden owww my hand starting hurting. Looking my hand over no blood :banger all fingers are there :noon then I look closer and see the outline of the mag release along my palm covered in black burns and also on my trigger finger, I thought it was kind of funny; only because I wasn't hurt.

Gun checked out ok and the grouping I was shooting for was nice and tight!

If your wondering about the "mag falling out again" part. Story behind that was I was shooting during a class using my G22 and during my run I saw my mag fall out. Kind of embarrassing but did a quick reload and continued my run trying not to laugh. :D

Francis pretty much what I saw today / fair amount of inventory HUGE price tags $50 averg on p mags, all the lower end AR's (dpms-Olympics-bushmaster) around $1800 not selling. Saw pretty many 6920's averg $2200!!! One dealer had one at $1795 (felt like a deal :r) I think the bubble has broke on the crazy crack head pricing and all the fools with more money then brains maybe fizzling out. One thing for certain I am going to remember what dealers are gouging, I am sorry they say "selling at current market value".

Ridiculous I paid 1100 each for my 6920's, people have lost their minds!!!

depends on local regulations. Ohio was HORRIBLE with guns in cars. A loaded magazine constitutes a LOADED GUN in ohio. yeah, that means a loaded mag in your trunk was illegal. and other horrible nuances. they JUST fixed this, should go into effect in a couple of months.

In case you missed yesterday's gun show covered on the news this A.M. They interviewed vendors who said they did "a year's worth of sales in one month".

Biggest seller ? "military style semi auto" like the Bushmaster and A.R.15, and capacity clips.

When asked about the rise in prices, a very common, (and realistic) reply:
"No we aren't price gouging because of recent events. It's the manufacturers. They have stopped making them ! When they are gone, they are gone. That's the issue. "

Pete I wouldn't consider the Sig 522, it's a better fire arm constructed like its big brother the 556. It also uses the industry standard black dog mags. I had the M&P 15-22 back when they came out and below $400, my sig 522 is twice the rifle.

Although I purchased the M&P 15-22 specifically for ergo training on the AR platform, and a little good ol fashioned fun with the slidefire, the Sig is largely regarded as the superior firearm. Better reliability, eats anything for ammo, etc.

ehhhhhhhh

regarding taking mags out of the boxes, that's just low and despicable...

(note that it is not my intent for this to be a defense of scumbag dealers, just an economic commentary on why raising your prices should NOT automatically make you a scumbag dealer, that title should be earned through other actions, like the jackass mentioned earlier in the thread that tried to raise the price on a forum member's rifle AFTER the member had already put money down on it and reserved it at the previous price. THAT is a scumbag.)

but in terms of prices, a counterpoint argument to that would be the need/demand based viewpoint of a classical economist. One could argue that BOTH business models (mark prices up and leave them the same) serve a viable and necessary role side-by-side in the overall consumer buying experience.

At times of high demand, the venders who leave their prices the same will sell out instantly. When they get in new stock, there will be a short rush, and then they're sold out again. This means that some customers, regardless of whether they "wanted" that rifle a lot or just thought now might be a good time to buy it (impulse buy), some will get it, some will not. Customers that get one are happy, customers that don't get one will continue hunting for it and hope they get lucky next time.

But for the vendors that mark up their prices, I'll argue that serve a different market. Sure, you're not happy with them, but that's OK, because honestly, you're not their targeted customer, economically speaking. I'll interject a personal example to illustrate what I'm trying to say.

I'm moving out of the country in 10 weeks. I'll be gone for a year. But for the sake of argument, lets say I'm leaving in 3 weeks. I NEED to buy anything I want before I go. I don't have a choice in this matter. In that case, I'll try my hand with the cheaper deal lottery like everyone else, at least for a week... but then my personal demand for the product rises and I'm willing to pay more to have it right now. Or maybe my father's birthday is next week and I really have a specific item in mind for him. In those cases, I have outside mitigating factors that make me willing to pay more for the convenience of having an item RIGHT NOW than you would be.

In that instance, a vendor who chooses to inflate his prices becomes a good thing, because that vendor will the only one available that still has stock on hand to cater to the smaller group of customers that have a higher demand and need for the product than the average buyer. I am grateful for a system that not only votes with it's dollars, BUT ALSO recognizes the inherent value in having both types of vendors in the marketplace. If everyone were forced to keep their prices low, by dearth of law or simply sheer terror of guaranteed and immediate public shunning, then someone like me with a higher need for the product would be S.O.L. when it came time to buy.

The market needs a balance, enough fear of the public voting $$'s that most will keep their prices low and let the public play the supply lottery, but also enough understanding from the public that some vendors can raise their prices and cater to the other side of the market that has a higher need for the product right now. If everyone had high prices, there would be a segment of the market (those unwilling or unable to pay higher prices) left out in the cold. But equally, if everyone had cheap prices, there would be a segment of the market (those able to, or willing to pay the higher prices) also left out in the cold. We need both!

I see a lot of people angrily decry that they will vote with their dollars elsewhere when this is over, which is fine, I support and encourage the capitalist system's freedom to do so. But when raising prices suddenly becomes synonymous with scumbag, I have to draw the line there. It seems that some of the persecution leveraged at the higher priced vendors is just a misunderstanding that they are serving a different market, but a valid market nevertheless. In those cases, I'm sad to see the consumer voting with their dollars like that over a misunderstanding...

I have purchased some stripped lowers at higher prices than necessary for this exact reason. In stock, or shipping before the end of January is my target. If I was willing to wait until March to have my product, I would have had many many more options in terms of what I purchased. (legislation won't take effect until after that anyway). But I needed the product now, so I paid the higher price for the in stock lower instead of the backorder one.

just my :2 on the subject (I also happened to be an economics major in college, which influences my view a bit :))

depends on whether you need it NOW or later. If you need it now, then you have to buy it from one of the big name companies. all the small websites are running behind on shipping anything for 1-4 weeks, even if its showing in stock. The big websites have a bit more of a modular operation and were able to ramp up shipping smoother, they're still shipping on time if they have it. And they'll tell you when they think they'll have it back in stock.

If you're content with it later, then you have even more options from lots of different small companies.

I use Winchester quite a bit and like it for range ammo.
If you want it quicker than a month out, check SGammo daily. Stuff on there all the time and cheaper than Cabela's.
Very fast shipping.

I will have to check that.. I don't see them on there now.

They have the 1000 rounds Federal JHP for almost, just a bit higher than the Winchester at cabelas. I do not want to just shoot JHP, but for the same price, why not?

Have you guys shot/used the Blazer Brass brand?

BB is good cheap ammo. Its dirty but runs great

Although I had previously "heard" of 3gun, I had never watched a video before today. I'm hooked. I want to do it. RIGHT NOW. I think I found my new hobby when I return to the states next year. That should make the wife REALLLLY happy :r

There's a match up in my neck of the woods end of the month, I'll try to get up there and see what its like. before I leave...

an AR mag with a numerical countdown indicator? GENIUS!
I'm surprised these aren't more popular here in the US...

They're behind on shipping. They have inventory but they just have way to many orders to fill. Mako said they even have family members coming in to help fill orders.

Edit: I placed my order on 12/27

I have six from Midway (limit of 2 so ordered 2 of each).

I just got charged today for my Armalite order directly from Armalite for 2 20 and 2 25 mags for .308. That has to be good news that I was charged now when ordered around 12/20. Fingers crossed.

Agree but anyone wanting a good deal today, not a bad one to have a few boxes of, when not interested in going through walls and houses.:r

Heck that 40gr Fran ammo would make good steel plinking ammo

I have mixed feelings about frangible ammo. If it's going to break up before going through a wall, odds are that it may have spent a lot of it's energy already by the time it gets through a leather jacket and only create a superficial wound. Not good IMO :(

I put all my eggs in the pmag basket from DSG... hope that doesn't backfire on me!

This should add an interesting mix to the debate of high capacity mags and Glock type guns.
Put five out of six fired rounds in assailant.
Guy made out of house and is alive and well in hospital.
Imagine if more assailants, she could have been dead, along with her children.

And to think I wonder if a loaded AR with 30 rounds, a loaded Glock with 13 and an extra mag loaded, a loaded LCP and a loaded Shield are enough.

That would be awesome. Why do you have to live so far?

I live here in the sticks because no one looks at me odd for building bullets or carrying firearms. The city cop next door gets a little bent when I test fire a round in the back yard though. lol

hmm... I must be missing something here.

I picked up a Sightmark red dot scope after reading good reviews around the web, my FIRST red dot sight.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QNTS88/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i03

Build quality seems good enough, good field of view, mostly visible red dot (bright sunlight and snow like I have here gave it a bit of trouble, but you can still make out the dot, which is all one can expect for under $100.

But here's the problem - correct me if I'm wrong, and I may well be, the theory of a red dot is that, similar to a reflex sight, the dot moves around in the window relative to your head position, so it doesn't matter what angle you look through it, the dot is on target, right?

So I set it down on the table, aimed it at the wall 10ft away, and peered through. Eureka, a dot! and I moved my head to the side, Eureka, the dot moved with my head! But wait... the point of aim also moved with my head! Significantly! At only 10ft away, moving my head to the side could adjust the point of aim by approx. 4 inches in either direction!

This effect is generally minimized with a scope which has minimal eye relief, you can't actually see through it unless you're lined up pretty close to center. But with a wide red dot tube like that one, if the point of aim shifts, then how are you supposed to line your head up precisely down the middle to get an accurate shot if it has such a wide viewing angle?

Francis. Why don't u try it actually shooting and see what happens if u move ur head but the dot stays in target?

I'm sure someone on arfcom can answer your question though
