Pardon the break in the action. But wanted to add to picture time here. Here's the new muzzle break installed. My Picatinny rail is like 6" .

Your rifles look really sweet. If I add an upper kit, then I can add a stock. But I like it this way.

Damn. I guess i didn't look closely the first time. The drop in DH rail doesn't look like the VRS-TD. And the shortest is 10.5". That would require me to get a new low profile gas block. Decisions, decisions.

I placed an order in September for what appeared to be in stock item.
Two weeks later, after calling, told on backorder.
Since then, not a word.
At least they haven't charged my card yet.

Anyone have opinions on different handgrips for the AR? Do you find the stock grip works just fine or do you prefer something else?

bonjing

I like the magpul miads with medium inserts for my hand. They are very adjustable to suite you needs. I don't like the standard grip due to the finger rest on them. I also tried the tango down battle grip but it felt to narrow to me.

very much ends up being a personal thing. I love the feel of the hogue soft rubber. There's some various angles available. UCWRG even makes one that angled more straight up and down like an AK grip, if that suits you're style. Trial and error is your friend. For just testing out the grips, ordering a bunch from amazon and then paying a few bucks to ship back the ones you don't like may be the ticket.

I think it depends heavily on your usage of the gun. If I wanted a single SHTF will not fail me gun, then there's no doubt I'd get the EOTech. If I was a professional 3gun competitor and shot red dots, then yeah, EOTech. All other uses depend on your available resources and order of importance.

If you're looking for AR's specifically, check out the Equipment Exchange on AR15.com. Prices are coming down and seem for most items to be better than GB. Just be careful if you say "I'll take it". They take welching on a deal seriously.

Haven't posted in a long while.
First is my MkII/III 22/45. Kingshouse Grip mod,VZ grips, Ed Brown mag release, Sam Lam bushing, VQ sear, pretravel screw in trigger.

While I was waiting for that, I sent the upper to ADCO for threading, install of a TacSol rail, and Fire Sights..

So now, I have this...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/Trumpet1/DSC02042.jpg

Then a couple months ago, I found an offer I couldn't refuse. Got a LNIB S&W 41 for a ridiculously low price. Sorry for crappy pics..

No fresh gear to brag on today but got to give thumbs up to Sig Sauer on this new-to-me P238 that's in my weak side front pants pocket right now. Can't make it malfunction shooting it one handed with a deliberately wimpy grip, much less when holding it properly. Even in all-black trim this wee blaster is cute enough to give a name to, a practice that usually makes me roll my eyes and wonder about those of you who do it all the time. ;) How about "My Little Pony"? After all the P238 is a rebooting of the old Colt Mustang...

Just figured out my issue. I put the hammer spring in backwards on my lower :sl

Funny that I only had issues with XTAC. Oh well. I'll rectify the issue later today,

I had similar issue a few years ago with one of thse reduced power spring kits running Guatemalan 5.56, so I prolly would have blamed the ammo rather then check my spring installation lol :sh

I now agree. Used to be a Glock guy. My wife bought a S&W M&P 45 ACP Compact this week. The slide is black and the frame is flat dark earth. Took it out the next to shoot and we both love it. Going to get one for myself.

gah, I love multiple levels of incompetence...

Called UPS a few weeks ago, spoke to a guy in the haz mat department. Got all the specifics for how to ship ammo. Certain box strength, level, etc. Then take it to a UPS service center (hub).

Took it to the hub today. "oh no, we can't take that here" .... "try taking it to the gun store down the street, they have the right account for that."

took it to the gun store, talked to the owner. "just take it to the post office, and don't tell them what it is. There's not restrictions on shipping ammo anyway. Guns yes, but ammo no."

:bh bloody frickin incompetent lot of em... :bh

So my choices are down to
A) Flat rate box at the post office.
B) Take it to the UPS stare, call it precision machine parts, and call it a day.
C) Sign up for a Hazmat business account with UPS and pay $10/week (required) for a weekly scheduled pickup at my house.

Leaning towards B...

UPS hub is the right choice. Next time ask for a manager as the person you talked to is an Idiot.

It's illegal to ship ammo USPS.

Pardon the break in the action. But wanted to add to picture time here. Here's the new muzzle break installed. My Picatinny rail is like 6" .

Your rifles look really sweet. If I add an upper kit, then I can add a stock. But I like it this way.

What are you going to use for sights? I have an Olympic Arms OA-93 with the top rail just like yours and I'm trying to find as low profile of a sight set as possilbe. Wish I could just get some handgun 3 dot sights but can't find any that will go on the rail. I don't want optics, they stick up too high.

Hi Ryan.. As of yet, undecided. I still use the open sights for now. I can still sight unobstructed right down the valley of the rail. I have seen mine with the short opticals like the guys have here on their AR's. But this is no rifle. Firing at a "power stance" well away from your face, I am considering just keeping my sights open.

3-dots would be nice, or laser. ..

What does Windows 8 have to do with it (and yeah, I don't want that sh!t either). Even windows 7 home basic x64 will allow up to 8gb of RAM. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx#physical_memory_limits_wind ows_7

And yeah, 4gb is enough for now, long as you have space for 8gb.

My guess is that he's never created a really layer intensive file, or tried to open 5+ images at once. You can't imagine the frustration when you work on a file for 20 minutes, got a bunch of layers, and then try to save it and photoshop says that it doesn't have enough memory to save the file. :bh

It's this upper, looks pretty nice in person. THICK Bull barrel makes it a little front heavy, but honestly not that bad, especially considering that there was no optic on it to help balance the weight rearward. I'd keep it, but a heavy 16" that s only a carbine gas is not quite my cup of tea. Prefer middy gas in a 16", and a threaded barrel.

Red-X Auto BCG & Tactical charging handle (new)
CMT TAC billet lower, Firefly/Serenity engraved (new)
Umbrella Corp grip (new)
Core-5 LPK, commercial buffer
VLTOR light carbine stock w/ battery compartments (used)
7.3lbs
--Might swap out the umbrella grip for a stock grip. I like the angled look a little better... but figure the umbrella name might carry some weight for a purchaser. Particularly paired with the Serenity lower...

BOTTOM:
PSA M4 Premium Madness, 16'' CMV CL, 5.56, carbine gas, 1/7 (new)
AR-15 BCG and standard charging handle (lightly used)
Doublestar lower, unknown LPK, commercial buffer (lightly used)
standard grip (new)
Core-5 standard carbine stock, fits a little loose (new)
6.3lbs
--Might throw a lightly used carry handle on the PSA upper to give it a full sight picture... and I don't need the handle anyway.

I have a trade offer for my S&W.460 mag XVR revolver (with 100 rounds) for a 20" double-star 6.5 Grendel upper with 350 rounds of ammo, five mags, Nikon one piece scope mount and a cheap scope.

A good friend of mine and myself are planning on building grendels for hunting purposes (Four legged) anyway, this sounds like a good load testing and general fun upper.

Your thoughts? would you trade a 1K revolver for the package?

Thinking I'll sell my MINI 14 as well.... keep the mags, sell the gun. Two AR's in the house will be enough for now, and I can always buy another mini later... but it will be nice to have the cash in reserve while I'm in south America.

Don't feel like lugging that around on my should tomorrow though... two ARs will be enough.... I'll probably just post it on gunbroker. Easier to post a mini14 online than it is to post a parts gun.

yep, vet scheduled for 11:45, and gun show is an hour away, so no show today! And I've learned that the Sunday show is USELESS for selling... Another show in 2 weeks, but that's an eternity in this market... So possibly off to gunbroker with the parts.

Has anyone here ordered a Henry rifle lately? A friend and myself ordered two 17 hmr Golden Boys last October 6th and they're still not here. I know they were having some production problems with tooling for the 17 hmr and then the hurricane hit, but 5 months seems like a long time. Just wondering if anybody has tried to order anything through Henry lately.

NO.... the dog is a presently a huge problem. He was mom's dog (although I grew up with him), but she was forced to go to assisted living last year. He's a healthy farm raised 12 year old dog, no major health problems (today was his first ever ear infection). Best damned dog I've ever had, well trained, not an ounce of aggression in him. And even at 12 he's still got an 18 hour bladder. Breaks my heart to see him go, but I've got to find him a home. A REAL home, where he'll be loved.

Beautiful gun. Never looked in to building one and probably never will. What does it cost at non gouger prices to put something like that together? Bought my neighbors DPMS 243 after he passed away at a great price, but might want to get a 223 eventually.

well, PARTS on that gun were about $1000.
The upper, despite its slick looks which I hope will allow it to tell for a high price, really didn't cost me any more than a normal looking upper.

putting together and upper receiver can be a little tricky from the perspective that it requires a few specific tools. But the lowers are easy to put together without any tools, except maybe a cheap butt stock wrench. you may also want to spend the extra $15 on a "bolt catch pin punch" from brownells... I'm very glad I did for mine, saves you from scratching your new receiver.

Dunno if you made a typo there, but the P225 and P226 are not the same gun. The 225 has a single column magazine, the 226 uses double stack.

If that wasn't a typo chances, are I'm not telling you anything you didn't know already.

I think Wideners did have the 225. It's the same gun pretty much, but as your stated single stack. I believe all the 225s you see for sale used are German police trade-ins.

Glock 19 would be my recommendation, smaller frame, but still substantial enough to handle recoil, and chambered in 9mm which you already own. I highly recommend finding a range where you can rent one first if possible. My wife hated shooting my Glocks, but she can drive tacks with my Sig P229, and she can operate the Sig much easier than the Glocks too.

I have the Olympic Arms OA-93 and really like it. I got that one because at the time it was the only one with no buffer tube. It's soon going to be my active shooter response gun (waiting on some sights). I didn't like the red dot sight so i'm going to iron. It's a close combat set-up anyway so I shouldn't need to shoot farther than what I can focus on with open sights.

Gen 3. Look at the sides of the mag near the bottom. see the lil dots?

Well...since you brought up the spectre of politics, spectrrr (:D)

Join Ohioans For Concealed Carry or Buckeye Firearms Association when you get back to the U.S., my good man. Jump into the fight with us, you got as much motivation as any other gun owner, more than many give the "toys" you own. We are always trying to make Ohio's gun laws suck less through contact with the legislators and whatnot.

02-26-2013, 12:01 PM
Although not a member of those associations, I have been in contact with my legislators in the past when specific matters have come to my attention. In the future, it won't matter for me because there is very little chance that my path will find me back in Ohio in the near or distant future.

and I do love the fact that I can still buy the 30+ mags while available, and store a few for use in other states, or a time when such things are not available for purchase anywhere.
