After 3 months of olympic lifting and multiple ligament injuries, I'm going back to hypertrophy based training.. Nothing major happened but felt like I needed to switch things up.

Today was legs and I got the biggest pump in them in a long time. Hitting them with multiple exercises and in different ways they definitely responded. Hoping to make some big gains :tu :ze

Standing reverse curls x4/8reps
Standing bicep curls x4/8reps
Standing french press x4/8reps
Standing upright row x4/8reps
Standing press x4/8reps

question for you guys; Am I hurting myself by doing full body everyday? I feel good so far and have been doing this routine for about 2 months now. Its basically full body on Monday and Tuesday. Wed it's full body with a focus on shoulders and and tri's. Thursday its full body with focus on back and bi's. Friday full body with focus on chest and legs.

An example would be Wed:

Flat bench DB press
Cable pull downs
db shoulder press
db lat raises
db reverse flys
db front shoulder raises
db preacher curls
cable curls
reverse curls
hammers
cable rope pull downs
squats

I definitely feel stronger, and I figure if I'm not doing anything negative to my body I'll keep this up until I need surgery in a few months. I just need to throw in some cardio and stop eating so damn much.

icehog3

It may produce results in the relatiove short term, Greg, and sounds like it has. As some point you will get overtrained and/or stagnant, and I would suggest moving to a split routine at that point.

Recovery is just as important as exercise. So letting your body rest is a must. Muscles need to rest in order to grow and working them everyday will not help them heal. You won't experience maximum strength gains that way either.

If you do decide to continue to do full body training, I suggest you break it up and do it nonconsecutive days, that way you are not over training.

Hyde pre work out was put to use today for a heavy back day.

wide grip pulls ---- close grip lat pull downs
chin ups 3x10
T-Bar row 4x6
Hammer strength single arm pull downs 4x5
DB row ---- bent over flys

So my take on Hyde: 400 mg of caffeine, and of course our beloved 1,3 dma and a few other extracts that I have no idea what it means.

Focus and energy 8/10
Strength 7.5/10

It was right around $34, for 40 or so servings. I decided to go with the watermelon flavor, not too bad but I like the sour taste more. I usually take new pwo on a empty stomach to get the "full effect." Within 5 minutes, I felt the tingles setting in. Once I started training, the pump felt pretty damn good. Overall, it's a good pwo but that being said, it was just one day. I will give another report tomorrow. I did exactly one scoop, I may add a little extra tomorrow.

Oh, almost forgot, there is another pwo out there as well called Mr.Hyde, this is just Hyde.

Shoulders early today.

BB upright row 4x5
seated db press 4x6
db lat raises 8x10
cable lat raises 4x8
rope slams 3x30 seconds

2nd day on Hyde. Focus and energy was 100% there. Strength, felt pretty damn good on first two exercises. Put up 85lb db on presses with no spot. After the two exercises, it just went down hill. Have legs tomorrow, may take it light even thought I wanted to do heavy all week. My lower back is still not up to par.

I learned this very quickly especially doing Olympic lifts. No way you will be able to sustain this for a long period of time. Your nervous system will crash and that is the worst feeling in the world. You aren't allowing for recovery and that is very important if you want to reap the benefits from lifting.

One of the most frustrating things for me... taking a pre sup and then not even going to the gym!

On the way to the gym yesterday to do legs, got a call that I need to be home for a delivery. Ughhh, made a U-turn back home... 4 hours later it was leg time.

Front squats 5x5
Hack squats 5x5
DB lunges 4x10
Single leg lying curls ---- box jumps 4x6

Today was chest, but just made it simple and focused much more on the upper pecs

Incline BB 3x5
Incline db flys 3x 8,6,6,4
flat db flys 3x6
weighted dips 4xfailure

and threw in some abs

Not sure if I'm feeling the Hyde, Tom.

Haven't reported-in in a couple of days. WO on Wed 04/03 and Fri 04/05 in the early AM following a great walk with the dawg:

Standing reverse curls x4/8reps
Standing bicep curls x4/8reps
Standing french press x4/8reps
Standing upright row x4/8reps
Standing press x4/8reps

Taking the WE off and back in the garage on Monday...

question for you guys; Am I hurting myself by doing full body everyday?

Greg, rest is key and WO everyday is simply nutz! Muscles need some down time to recuperate and rebuild. I'm currently WO 3 days a week on M-W-F in the morning with TU-TH-SA-SU off. When I return from Vegas on the 19th, I'm considering giving two days of rest in-between WO sessions and bumping-up the sets from x4 to x5. Something I'm considering at this time...

Prohormone.

Flat db flys 4x10-12

Standing reverse curls x5/8reps
Standing bicep curls x5/8reps
Standing french press x5/8reps
Standing upright row x5/8reps
Standing press x5/8reps

In addition, upped the Assault to 25g which paired nicely with the extra set per routine. Don't know if I've mentioned this or not, but the raspberry/lemonade flavor taste great, and contrary to some of the reviews I've read in the past, the powder dissolves completely. In essence, I dump the 25g of Assault powder into 12oz of water and stir for approximately 40 seconds or more. Yeah, you get a little sediment on the bottom, but its nothing that a little swirling can't take care of once you reach the bottom. To date, no post jitters, crashing, headaches, blah, blah, and blah...

Darn Huy, 8x8 squats. Thats insane!! How do you walk out of the gym after that?

I did 10x10 the other week. That was insane. My legs were shot for at least 3 days. I think I spent a good 45 min just on the squat rack.

Was up early this morning, so went in and did shoulders and upper back. Was out in Hana with my wife over the weekend, so just catching up.

My poor wife was up most of the night due to miss communication or a lack of between family in Thailand and Korean airlines. We put my mother in law on a plane back to Thailand yesterday and she didn't show up when she was scheduled. Flight was delayed, but some how they kept telling my wife the flight had arrived on time. Mom finally made and met up with family, all good.

Glad to hear it, Jay.

Do you guys go to Planet Fitness? They had a special, start for $1, then $10 a month. It's less than a mile from our Apartment, so we figured why not. They're all about Judgement free and ****, which I don't care about. If I can't get as much weight as someone else, who cares? If I went to the Gym with Tom, I'm sure he'd blow me away weight wise, but I wouldn't feel bad about myself for it...

When we've gone, we get stared at constantly. It's really f'in weird. We'll be doing something normal like Squats, stared at. We'll do Burpees off to the side, get stared at. It's like we have a dick hanging off our foreheads... Then you can't make ANY noise. No grunting. I'm all for nobody screaming. But if you're doing like 15 burpees, and you're struggling, I'm going to make a little bit of noise. They have something called a "lunk" alarm, which goes off if you're making too much noise, or dropping weight... Seems like a Gym for self conscience pussies.

Personally, I love it when I'm at the cable system and the guy next to me lets the plates slam down making my ear ring for a few seconds. I agree, there is often SOME necessary grunting involved in weight training. Disciplined breathing through to the last rep usually minimizes it though.:2

BHalbrooks
04-23-2013, 06:11 PM
We've seen them talk to people who are just breathing heavy in a normal manner. They were benching a **** ton, and had a normal breathing pattern. The weight slamming I do understand.

I've never been inside a Planet Fitness, brian.

The days of the hardcore gyms are just about over. The gym I train at now tries to cater to the "fitness" crowd, with tons of cardio machines and personal trainers preaching exercises that seem foreign to us dinosaurs.

Luckily the gym has enough hardcore stuff to keep the lifters happy, and none of us could care less what the others lift, we just help each other to improve. I lift with guys who bench anywhere from 135 to 595, from ages 18 to 65, and we're all supportive and cool to each other.

I grew up when a gym was weights, a heavy bag and a drinking fountain, and the fountain didn't work 1/2 the time. We wore funny looking baggy pants and lifted Volkswagons, and we liked it that way. AC/DC and other 3 chord hard rock blasted through the speakers, and after the workout we would go to Burger King and have 4 bacon doublecheeseburgers each. I kinda miss those days...I definitely miss that metabolism. :lr

There's no energy in the weight area in gyms now. No chalk in the air or plates clanking. Seeing people go for max and just show some enthusiasm before their set. Actually, I have fallen out of favor of weightlifting as it is dull at the gym. It's hard to get excited when no one else is.

Pilates is most of gym time and a good use of it.

100 rubber plates.

Should mention we "tree'd" a racoon this morning during our walk. He (the racoon) stopped about 8' up in a "Y" area of the tree. We moved to about 10' from that "Y" and observed. That racoon was just staring down at us with its "bandit looking face." What a great looking animal. Nonetheless, and with great resistance from the dawg, we con't on our walk:)

Staci wanted to go work out today, but since I have work tonight and she doesn't get home till 5, we decided to go early this morning... 5am.

She thought it would be a good idea to take one of my pwo, didn't settle so well with her empty stomach. She threw up half way through her leg workout. Kudos to her though, she did her thing and then went back to the squat rack.

Legs and obliques today. Kept the rest time under a minute, so every set and rep were intense and growling.

:wo...heck of a good workout in the garage this morning. Reached a milestone wherein I was able to strip off the smaller plates and slap on both 25lb plates to the EZ bar (11lbs) and add 5lbs to all routines except the bicep curls. Here's what it looks like now:

Standing reverse curls @60 x5/8reps new
Standing bicep curls @65 x5/8reps
Standing french press @75 x5/8reps new
Standing upright row @75 x5/8reps new
Standing press @75 x5/8reps new

I've come along way since getting my arse back out to the garage to workout on a regular basis. This is what it looked like on 02/14/13:

Standing reverse curls @35 x4/8reps
Standing bicep curls @35 x4/8reps
Standing french press @50 x4/8reps
Standing upright row @50 x4/8reps
Standing press was added on 03/23/13

On 03/13/13, the Assault pwo was added which has helped immensely with the pumps. The Assault Creatine and ReCon post wo followed on 05/01/13. Its all working out very well and the benchmark has now been set for myself. No looking back, only forwards to reaching a new mark in the next 30 days.

It's hard on the knee ligaments/tendons, Greg. It is basically good for competing bodybuilders who need crazy separation/striation in their quad muscles, but not for your average lifter just trying to gain muscle or functional strength.

Sitting at work with a bag of ice on my left shoulder. It popped at the gym, really popped, and I am just being cautious. Funny thing is, I have probably 50-60% better range of motion now than I have had in weeks, so I may have actually helped it in the long run....loosened an impingement or broke some scar tissue or something. I think I will have a better idea tomorrow, but am hoping for the best.

Determined to become healthier and more in shape, I began to workout for the first time ever. 2 years, 4 waist sizes, 1 shirt size, and 52 pounds later, I finally reached my goal of weighing over 200 pounds and getting in the best shape of my life. John Cena was in the gym while I was there. He was a douche as usual. His buddy, I think he wrestles under the name "Shamus"(?), seemed like a decent guy.

Back day....kept the weights a little lighter again, still tentative about that shoulder popping out...but it did not. :)

Bent Over Rows to 305
T-bar Rows to 270
Cable Rows to 275
Super-wide Bent Over Rows 205 high reps, no rest

No John Cena, that was nice. ;)
