Here is some beer **** for Skywalker. My local shop is clearing these out for $3.99 each. I'm sure the hops are not as "sharp" as when they were fresh, but it's still a darn nice beer. Making some fish tacos for dinner tonight, I think they will go nicely together.

You may be interested to try Cigar City's Bolita Brown Double Nut Brown Ale. It's made in Tampa, FL, so I'm guessing it will be pretty easy for you to find in your area. One of the best in the "English Brown Ale" style.

And heck, it's Double Nut, so it's gotta be good, right? :ss

To me Coffee Bender is my least favorite of Surly's four "regulars". Too much like a coffee drink and not enough like beer. But they sell the heck out of it so I am clearly in the minority opinion.

The other beers you mention are thicker - more viscous- than CB, which is a brown ale cold brewed with copious coffee.

Jai Alai is one stinking awesome IPA. I just hate that they're funded by the strip club industry in Tampa.

TASTY! My first Boulevard was a Double Wide, which I tried the single first but my only local shop in Clear lake offers a few extreme IPA"s only in some selections.. BOOO!

right now i am trying a Founders Backwoods Bastard.. Wow, not what i expected.. Thought it was going to be much richer, darker, but it has a really light mouth feel, not much of a bourbon kick but possibly the proof ;) I seem to taste more of the barrel, and the Bourbon mouth 'burn' rather than much flavor, But I am enjoying it :banger

had my first Sierra Nevada Glissade last night. Won'tb e my last, it was very good. I think I heard (maybe here?) that this is supposed to be the same recipe as the "original" Coors from the 1970's. If that's true, it was a great beer. I'll be buying more of this for sure.

Summit Horizon Red (think Surly Furious Jr.).
I didn't get that from Horizon, maybe I need to try it again. If it really is Furious jr., that would be a nice cost-effective subsitiution on occasion.

Here is my review from BA:

12oz bottle poured in a cylindrical Hobgoblin pint glass.

A- Nice deep red with one finger of head. Clings nicely to glass.

S- Hoppy, citrusy aroma up front, with a bit of molasses in the background.

T- Like the smell, this has plenty of Hops and grapefuit up front, and finishes with light malt. However, there is a metallic aspect to this that I find unpleasant. Seems a bit unbalanced for an amber ale. IMO should be a bit more in the malt deparment.

M- A bit thin, and a bit too bitter for this style. I'd prefer less carbonation but it's certainly not excessive.

D- This is certainly a fine sessionable beer, but I was hoping for something more. I'd like to try this on tap too see how it compares to the bottled version. Summit seems to have "good" beer down pat, but I'd like to see them release a couple of "great" beers.

Picked up He Brew Jewbilation and Lagunitas Gnarly Wine yesterday. I'll try one of them tonite. The Gnarly Wine seems low ABV for a barley wine. Are you guys sipping this or drinking a full glass?

Edit: Now that I've thought about it, a sipping barley wine would be much more costly. I'm pouring a glass.

I've had teh Hebrew Jewbilation a few times. It's a decent beer. I found it to be overly sweet for my taste. However, I really appreciate the cheekiness of this beer company. It's called "Jewbilation Bar Mitzvah" and there are 13 kinds of hop and 13% ABV. Plus, they brewed it to celebrate the 13th anniversary of their company. They actually threw a mini-Bar Mitzvah for themselves last year at the Great American Beer Festival. It was pretty funny.

Most beer is served to cold. This is frequently done (as I am told) to cover up the taste or lack there of. I prefer cellar temp for most but there are a few that are nice a little cooler. If you try beer a little warmer you may notice many different flavors but as the "rule" goes if you like it that way, drink it that way.

I love the Lagunitas and they do go great with beef.

Tonight Im having a Mirco from a brewery called Barley Creek in Tannersville, PA. I passed this place goin snowboarding at the Ski place just up the road from them (Camelback) My mom who I was goin with suggested stopping by on the way back and I was very surprised. They have a small brewery in the restaurant with about 5 or 6 different brews. I picked up a growler of their Dark Lager and a growler of their IPA. The Lager was ok, the IPA is pretty standard as well. Both brews are very drinkable and are 5% and 5.5% respectively.

Would I pick these up again? Maybe the IPA I would take the Brown Ale over the Lager

Yes, I did and I liked it very much, as I recall. We had it at the W.H.A.T. along with many others so I don't remember it as well as I could have. :r

The Nemesis is much more of what it claims to be. A "maple bourbon barrel aged wheat wine". It drinks much more like a bourbon/wine than the Bastard. A sipper and a bit rough with a slight burn yet creamy at the same time. When drinking Bastard, I think you know you are still having a beer.

The more I drink it, the more it's growing on me. :D

How would you describe it's flavor and texture, I'd like to compare it to my memory.Different strokes, I suppose, and probably different coasts. In the NorthEast while there are certainly hop heads, given the long, brutal winter nights a lot of people like their beers BIG, with the hops a balancing act, not the main attraction.

This is really well balanced between the malt and the hops. Tastes almost like vermont maply syrupy to me, with hops, floral and citrus. Certainly brown sugar, although I get more of a belgian candy taste. Malty. As good as the DFH Palo Santo I had the other night? No. But good nevertheless.

As to the throwing up....he knows this **** is 10% ABV right? Not a beer to be tossing back, :r

Found a bomber of Southern Tier Krampus on my shelf in the garage, where I store beer in the winter. I forgot I had this, and it was mixed in with some Belgian bombers I'm aging. It's an Imperial Helles Lager. It's good - rich, tasty, and a bit of an oily texture - but "Imperial" lager is not something I guess I really understand. To me lagers are supposed to be refreshing, and this seems sort of heavy.

Sam Adams Noble Pils, you can taste the hops :tu

This beer gets pretty good ratings, but I am not a fan. It tastes like grass to me. Yea I know it's the piney noble hops, but still. They might as well have just thrown grass into the boil.

Speaking of hops, I'm drinking on my Imperial IPA / American Barleywine Hybrid thing. It pretty much lies right in between both styles. Damn good though. 10.25% abv. Very happy with that recipe.

I agree. It tastes like a bad batch of home brew. :r

Autumnal Fire from Capital Brewery in WI. I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, and was pleasantly surprised. A bit sweet, but had much more complexity than I would have guessed.

Going to go back and grab me some more to lay down for a nap, really really good stuff.

Nice weather here and also got the grill going.

Time for a smoke and another beer.

Maybe a Racer 5 IPA.
