Schlafly's new extremely limited Vanilla Milk Stout release.
Only available on tap at Schlafly Bottleworks, Schlafly Tap Room, and The Royale(a local bar).

Overall it is a tasty beer. Too bad that it wasn't bottled and won't be given the opportunity to age as it should.
It tastes young though. 15 barrels and 5 casks were released Wednesday. Only about 12 barrels remain.

I had a bottle of Kayak Kolsch from the Lake Shore Brewing Company out of Duluth at the place I stayed. Not bad, but wasn't really in the mood for a Kolsch. I didn't realize there was so much beer coming out of Duluth.

I tend to agree, although if you see any of their Barrel Aged Shipwreck Porter I think it's worth picking up. Kinda pricey (around $5/ 12 oz IIRC) but that's for a 12% baltic porter. I thought it was tasty, although it definitely can use some time to mellow - lots of whisky flavors right now.

Today, I went to 3 Floyds brewpub. It's about an hour away from from my place and is totally worth the drive on occasion. I had a Gumballhead American Pale Wheat and a Brian Boru Irish Red on tap. Both were very tasty; but their burgers and fries are awesome. Apart from the garnish I asked them to add some goat cheese and a fried egg, freakin' delicious! And their fries are the some of the best I have ever had. Looking forward to the next time I head back.

After 7+ days of active fermentation, I racked to secondary yesterday and added 24 oz honey. The beer was sitting at 1.021 and tasted great. Formed another nice head of krausen overnight and it was percolating away. Will keep it in the secondary for about a month, dry hopping along the way.

If you do this, I would highly recommend harvesting the yeast from one of the Hopslam bottles. Bell's says you can harvest from their Amber Ale or substitute Wyeast California I, but there's something different about the actual Hopslam yeast. I can't describe it, but the beer tastes very very good. I'm excited. :banger I salvaged some from the primary, and if I could figure out a way to ship some to you without risk, I'd do it. Probably easier to just grow your own.

I would love to try the 120min as well Jeremy. So far everyone I've talked that has tried it prefers the 60 and 90 over it.

120 is fantastic. It's just not fair to compare to 90 min, as they are apples and oranges. 90 min is amazing, one of the best IIPAs out there. 120 minute is almost a hop flavored liqueur due to the sweetness and alcohol content.

Different animals all together, but both fantastic in their own right.

If I make DLD, I'll bring a bottle of aged 120.

Yes I have, over in your neck of the woods. AT the TAPROOM but only because they offered it to me.

I was only giving you my thoughts about it. Not trying toget in a battle over beer.
In the end it always comes down to one thing, what you & your taste buds enjoy...

I'm with Pnoon I hear the Plinys are some of the best DIPA's out there. I would be interested in wondering what was asked as well.

I'm obviously interested but if you like say Dreadnaught but don't like Pliny it might save me the time and hassle in attempting to acquire Pliny and put more focus on buying another case of dreadnaught.

However If you normally don't like DIPAs.....then that would be the reason you did not enjoy Pliny.

Pliny is worth the effort to track a few bottles down.

I couldn't taste 90 minute IPA after Pliny, and the Pliny and 120 minute both held up to each other hop wise, meaning I could go back and forth and still taste each beer fine. That should give you an idea of how hoppy it is.

Pliny is a wonderful DIPA. Slightly bitter, VERY piney, evergreen like taste. Great mouthfeel and a long finish. Surprisingly flavorful even real cold. I like to pour cold and drink slow so it warms by the end. Then repeat.

I picked up a bottle of Pliny a couple weeks ago. I'm an IPA addict. It lives up to the hype without question. As close to perfect as I've had. My only complain was the head retention, but that was just a single bottle, so who knows. Flavor and balance were exactly what I would want.

I need more.

I have not, though I will change that this weekend. Always like a little comparison. I'll post back on that later.

Only considering the Brooklyn's, it's super drinkable for me. Stout's are currently my favorite style, but I typically find them to be too filling to be close to a session beer and still find it excellent. Brooklyn's Black Chocolate Stout, session beer? Maybe.:sh

I'm certainly on the side of anyone who suggests that Greg Noonan created this style of beer in VT. Rock art does a good job with it, but I think Sublimely Self Righteous is my favorite at this point (there, that should satisfy the west coasties). Who else makes good Black IPA/American Dark ale/Cascadian Dark ale (whatever you want to call it)?

Plenty drunk and shared today. A few included Lagunitas Gnarleywine, Brooklyn's Black Chocolate Stout and Monster Ale, Dogfish Head Squall and Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale.

Just bought some Guinness draught for the pot roast I'm preparing this morning. Used 1.5 cans, and you can't just dump out the other half can! Maybe a foreign extra stout next...

Agreed. The recipe called for the other one. I much prefer FES to the rest of the Guinness lineup.

Yes. Today was KBS day and it was released at Founders (another week or so until it hits stores). I talked to Ron who was there and it sounded like he had one hell of a day. I'm sure he might post about it.
