I've had several new beers today:

Tyranena Three Beaches Honey Blonde. Meh. Ordinary yellow fizzy beer.
Fanziskaner Hefe Weizen. A classic hefe. I wish we could get it fresher here in the USA.
Breckenridge Lucky U IPA. I liked this quite well. Not an "in your face" IPA, but very enjoyable.
Breckenridge Avalanche. An amber ale. I'd like to try it again sometime as I had it after the Lucky U IPA, and it got lost in the hoppiness of the prior beer.
New Belgium Hoptober. OMG this stuff is lovely. I'll be drinking a lot of this while it's available.

North Coast Old Stock Ale (2010).

Had a few sips out of my tumbler when it was still quite cold...all booze, little flavor...I knew better but it's so hard waiting for beer to come up to temp :). As it warmed up the beer gained much in flavor and body. Still though, not really my style...put two 12 oz. in the cellar, we'll see in a year.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA

Picked up a six pack of Sierra Nevada Torpedo. It's rightfully billed as an "Extra IPA", but has better balance than a lot of the hoppy IPAs on the market. :tu Sublime aromas of pine and citrus but a good malty balance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Pretty high on the alcohol though -- 7.2% -- I've noticed most IPAs are pretty high on the alcohol. Not that there's anything wrong with that

....

Brewdog's Paradox Smokehead -did not really enjoy it, but it certainly was interesting and unique, just ultra smokey/peaty. Actually glad I tried it, I laughed when I first smelled and tasted it, just at the oddity of it. But I could not finish it.

Rogue John John Spruce/Gin Ale - subtle spruce and gin aroma/flavors but definitely there and well integrated, very nice and drinkable, didn't love it but it was a nice change.

THAT will be awesome. I find that pumpkin beers almost always benefit from a year of age. I have some St. Arnold's Devine Reserve 9 from last fall. It is an Imperial Pumpkin Stout. The spice was way overwhelmed last fall in this brew. i cracked on last night and it is damn good.

The guy who, aside from my wife, is my favorite person on Planet Earth came over for dinner tonight. We've been friends since our junior year in college, and were born one day apart. We get together far too infrequently. He is mostly a wine nerd, but appreciates good beer as well. Tonight we had St. Bernardus Abt 12, Surly Furious, Deschutes Black Butte Porter, and Founders Nemesis 2009. I had some GI BCBCS on deck too, but discretion led us to set this aside for another night. We paired the beers with burgers, brats, and all the fixin's. Good times. :-)

That stuff is awesome, if you had handed it to me blind I'd have called it a DIPA.

No biggie man! On the day I sent yours we both had 6. I took mine to Shack and shared a few. Anyway, I can get it when it is in season.:tu

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I love it.
Rumor has it that they will be adding it to a regular brew rotation.
They (Schlafly) are having a event here in a few weeks where they will e tapping a couple of reserved casks of it, so I am far from eing TOTALLY out. :D

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/4985255739_c48bafd093.jpg

Excellent but expensive beer. Tastes something like a Burton Baton crossed with a Raison D'etre...well maybe not really. It was very dark, caramel sweet, dried fruit...I found the booze (14.5%abv) to be well incorporated into the beer, no need for any additional aging IMO...I am glad I opened it to share amongst friends.

The Vanilla was AWESOME.

To me, the Vanilla was right at the edge of being too pronounced though.

Delirium Nocturnum is known to be a pretty mediocre Belgian beer. But, I would certainly not write off all other Belgians. as good as Rochefort is, there are many others also worth your while.

Here is a list of the top 50 Belgian beers, as rated by the users of Beer Advocate. There's a ton of great beer here, and most of it is pretty easy to find.

Had a SN Tumbler. Didn't like it and yet have found a SN I enjoy.

That's just wrong. Another statement like that and we're just going to have to revoke your man card. :bx

I'm drinking my first ever Surlyfest, and loving it. While I would not consider this an "Octoberfest" beer, it certainly is a wonderful autumn-inspired malty beer. Personally, I'd have given it a bit more carbonation, but I'm loving it this way too.

There is something about this that reminds me very much of Deschutes Black Butte porter. I'm guessing there are similar crystal malts but I can't tell for sure where the similarity lies, but there is a definite "Black Butte" taste going on here.
