Saw this last weekend. Unbelievable movie. I knew the story but my wife didn't. I think they ended it perfectly.

I knew the ending, but I wanted to see how they handled it. Thought Clint did a terrific job.

I also thought the pacing of the film was fantastic. I was holding my breath half the time. Just an outstanding film.

One thing I'd like to add is a "Thank you" to the director for not resorting to using shakycam during the numerous fight scenes. I am so bleeping tired of shakycam; it's become nothing more than a cliched crutch of uncreative directors who don't have the skill, talent, or personnel to choreograph and film a coherent yet visually interesting - or at a bare minimum, competent - fight scene.

Fantastic Four.

No, not THAT one, nor the other two THAT ones, which at least had Jessica Alba to look at. This was the unreleased 1994 Roger Corman version, with a budget billed in pocket-change and special effects on a level with the BBC's first season of Dr. Who. Interesting, as long as you go into it with the same attitude you'd view, say, Plan 9 From Outer Space. :D

Song of the South

No, not THAT one, which for PC reasons Disney has locked in the vault, at least here in the land of the free. This was a 2013 documentary subtitled Duane Allman And The Rise Of The Allman Brothers Band. Two hours of great stories and great music telling not only that story, but the birth of Southern rock itself. It's available to stream free on Hulu, and I highly recommend it.

Commando with the Governator - Some of the best lines in any of his movies.

John Matrix: Where is she, Sully?

Sully: Kiss my ass!

John Matrix: I can't hear you!

Sully: I'll say it a little louder, get ****ed!

John Matrix: [holds Sully upside-down over a cliff by his leg] Listen, loyalty is very touching. But it is not the most important thing in your life right now! But what IS important is gravity! I have to remind you Sully, this is my weak arm!

Sully: You can't kill me Matrix! You need me to find your daughter!

John Matrix: Where is she?

Sully: I don't know. But Cooke knows, I'll take you to where I'm supposed to meet him!

John Matrix: But you won't.

Sully: Why not?

John Matrix: [holds the hotel key he stole from Sully that Cooke is staying at] Because I already know. Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?

Sully: That's right, Matrix! You did!

John Matrix: I lied.

Then when he's asked where Sully is the classic response: "I let him go." :lr

Peter, I think you'll like Hercules in about 6 months if you give it another chance.
The beginning is really offputting, because you're expecting Hercules in "Troy" style and you get a "band of hucksters".
I did just what you did. :lr
Revisited, I liked it. But it was busy around here. So then I watched it again and gave it proper attention. Then I found it was good. It's got some good "300"ish, comic-booky jokes. It's a guy's movie.
I hope you'll try it again once you get over getting screwed on the first go around.

Lisa and I watched self/less last night.

I only mention this so that I may save one of you guys the pain and the 2 bucks.
The movie has ZERO opportunity for redemption. Unless you can use the dvd for an ice scraper this winter, or something.

Here's the thing:
The story was really just a rehash of any standard, out-of-the box time travel movie.
But then they tickled it with a little bit of "fear of future technology because IT WILL GET US!!!" and a touch of "YAY!!! The humans are smarter and saved us all again, just like they do all the time cause we're freakin awesome!!!"
I bet the book is good. Seriously.

Then they had crappy budget, needed Ben Kingsley and Ryan Reynolds so they at least had a couple names to sell this dogsh1t they will be creating, then cast the rest of the movie with, well, nice people. But not actors.
Then they set upon neutering both actors, wasting a lot of people's time, and making a movie that is just truly awful.

I can take away one plus from this.
Lots of folks got put to work, and it put food on a lot of tables.
