I went to college in the same city as the brewery. Grew very fond of the brew over that time. I still like it very much.

Sam Adams Octoberfest is my all time favorite beer. Costco usually has it in 24 pack form, but I haven't seen it yet. As soon as I do, ill buy multiple cases.

I'm currently enjoying a cerveza caguama light that my in laws picked up for me.. free beer is good beer.

Tried some Dogfish Head for the first time last weekend.

A friend of a friend brought some from out of town (Can't find it anywhere here).

First one was the Raison D'Etre. Complex, tart, and really held my interest. Very surprised with this one. I couldn't stop thinking about the flavors between drinks. Totally not what I was expecting. Great beer for the curious.

He sent home a 60 minute IPA with me, which will get drank tonight after work. I'm going to put it against the last Bell's Two Hearted in the fridge.

Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout.

12oz Bottle into a pint glass

A - Coffee black with a quickly dissipating dark brown head. No lacing.

S - Coffee, sweet toasted malt. Slight vanilla. Definitely the soy sauce funk that I find in all stouts.

T - This is almost what I would consider to be a perfect Oatmeal Stout. The burnt toast bitterness is right on the front. I wish there was just a tad bit of sweetness to balance it out. Heavy on the bitter chocolate from the first taste through to the finish.

M - Medium heavy body. Nearly perfect carbonation, virtually no astringency.

O - LIke I said, this is one of my favorites. I think this is one beer that Breck absolutely nails.

I brewed a Berliner Weisse a while back that I like a lot but I had never had a commercial example to compare to. It is a perfect lawnmower beer but I wasn't really sure I had made a Berliner so I picked up a couple examples that I can get here to compare to.

Professor Fritz Briem 1809 - Good, but not all that tart
White Birch Berliner - Great. Nice and tart.

Wish more breweries would get on this style of beer. I'm definitely open to recommendations to seek out if any of you have locals that put out a decent Berliner.

From what I've read from people with much more sophisticated palates than mine, is 2-3 years is the sweet spot. I plan to try and be disciplined enough to drink one a year at Christmas. But my discipline is typically lacking. :r
