Drinking a Heay Seas Below Decks from 2009. I still have some from '07 and '08 that's beginning to oxidize just a little bit, but the '09 is sublime right now.

New at a local store - which should I try?

Goose Island - Matilda, Sofie, Pere Jacques
Brooklyn Sorachi Ace

On the goose island front - I don't think I like really traditional belgians - dubbels, trippels, etc. Nothing too fruity or weird. Did not like Three Philosophers, La Fin du Monde, Golden Monkey .... I do like some sort of "part" belgians - Clown Shoes Muffin Top, Le Freak, Allagash Black...

If you like Allagash Black I would say try the GI Belgians. Their not to fruity or in your face fruit at all.

I've seriously been thinking about trying to get a beer trade going around here. I have easy access to Cigar City (actually stopped by the brewery yesterday on my way home to grab a few 750's) and it seems to be wanted by those who can't get it..maybe I can get a trade for some 3 floyd's.

But really it's not a big deal to start trading on beeradvocate or ratebeer if you're really interested in trading. Your first couple trades will just require you sending your end first (since you are not verified yet). Brewery releases, or even limited releases, from Cigar City are actively traded for. :tu

"Hoppier than a bullfrog with a stubbed toe"

Not as good as Terrapin Hopsecutioner. Athens-1 - Atlanta-0

Please, oh please don't make Red Brick your benchmark of Atlanta beers. I have tried all of their offerings and maybe one or two have been worth a second try. I feel the same about most Jailhouse beers. However I do consider Sweetwater's IPA better (to my palate) than Hopsecutioner but Terrapin's Hopzilla is the best DIPA made in the state. If you haven't tried any of the offerings from Wild Heaven, the Ode To Mercy is a fantastic Brown ale and be on the lookout for Kennesaw's newest brewery Burnt Hickory Brewing. I should note that Terrapin is my favorite GA brewery, Wake N Bake is in my top 10 favorite beers.

So I was photographing a wedding this past weekend with some fellow home brewers and the topic of my odd sometimes aweful beers came up. The main one was a Skittlebrau I had made years ago for a Herf in Ohio. (mainly how aweful it was) but it struck some coords and I figured I would try and find those old friends from the time. Old web pages were gone, many better brews have been made since then, many cigars burned, and I had an email from many years ago with a hint of where to find you guys.

So, Icehog, still craving skittlebrau or did we get it out of your system? :)

i did manage to drink the regular Bourbon County too - it was awesome to have a chance to try either of these at all, and even better to try them side by side. I think in general, 12 oz instead of 34 would be enough at one sitting though ;)

Picked up a 6 pack of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Will probably be one of my "everyday" beers. Will make sure to always keep a few in the fridge.

I had this beer when I drove out to Kentucky for a weekend Herf and loved it. Unfortunately Jersey is a Non-Alcoholic delivery state so I cannot get The Party Source to ship it out to me. On a good note Theo is heading up to Cigarfest and bringing me up a few four packs. :noon I love my BOTL! :banger

my love of stout, I have decided that Delerium Tremens is my favorite beer. It's got all the lip-smacking
sweetness and tang of a good mountain dew and the carbonation of a beer. I know it has all the makings

Just found this post. I love SweetWater, Happy Ending is a very good beer.

If you like Malts Terrapins 10th Anniversary beer is said to be the best they've ever produced (according to the liquor store crews opinions). I didn't like it but I don't like sweet, fruity/spiced beers.

I've still got a few bottles of Jailhouse to try...wild heaven is now on the queue.

I still holding onto to some 2010. The last year it was made by the head brewer Sam before he left. There is something that the beer has that the last couple years are missing.

Yeah, mini review of the Voodoo and the Vertical Epic please!

I had the Voodoo more recently, so I'll start with that one...When you go to drink it, you get a nice inhale of the maple aroma, which seems like it shouldn't be in a beer, but it works here. The taste on the tip of the tongue that you first get is the sweetness of the maple flavor, and it finishes with the salty bacon flavor. You get a nice smooth ale flavor from this one, as well. As it warms up, the bacon does get a bit more prevalent. The maple and bacon flavors are not overpowering (IMO), but they are noticable and present, and compliment this brew very well. We have a couple more bottles stashed away, and noth the wife and I are thankful for that. :)

It's been a bit since I had the Vertical Epic, but I do remember that I enjoyed it. I don't recall the spice being very heavy in it. It was more of an undertone that supported the beer, but didn't totally carry it. To me, it wasn't a "hot" spice, but a flavor opening one. Seemed more like cinnamon or cardimum to me. If you're looking for a beer that has a spicy kick, then I'd suggest New Belgium Cocoa Mole...that has a bit more of a kick to the spice in it, and goes well with something like burritos or tacos and such.

This sounds really good, I am a stoudt whore right now.
It was quite tasty, IMO. There was a nice coffee flavor the came through with the rich stout flavor. It was fairly thick and slightly heavy, but in a good way. You get the coffee aroma as you go in for a sip. This is one that I want to try to keep in my regular rotation. It doesn't hurt that Lift Bridge is a local brewery, either. :)

Thanks for the words on those beers. Sounds like they are worth trying.

The stout sounds good too. I have been loving stouts for awhile now.

A little beer from a local brewery, 3rd Street Ale Works, in Santa Rosa CA.
Puddle Jumper
Its a pale ale and normaly I don't like them because of all the back end hops, but this one finished real clean. It had a nice hoppy flavor but didn't stick around after the finish.

Had to spray weed killer on our 2.5 acre lawn today. 4 hours of driving ~1 mph. (still have to finish up tomorrow) Did enjoy a Saison Dupont, Sixpoint Apollo, Sixpoint Resin, along with a couple of cigars :D

I have been enjoying Six Point lately.

The Crisp, Apollo and Sweet Action are great outdoor summer beers. Also Resin...gotta love a good double IPA.
