I have become a huge fan of Deschutes Black Butte Porter and also Deschutes Red Chair. Excellent beers. And a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale goes great with a cigar!

Founders Big Lushious

I realize this goes against the idea of this thread, but I didn't enjoy it at all. Has very fruity notes to it (raspberry) and I tend to not care for fruity beers.

:tpd:

For me it was slightly different - fruity beer can be ok but Big Lushious had this intense "fake fruit" flavor. In fact if I could just place it, it seems like the exact flavor from some candy I had once in the distant past.

I threw out half the bottle despite the steep price.

I, on the other hand, choked it down because of the steep price I paid at a bar.

I have two left of a six pack of quite possibly the best named beer ever:

Sweet Baby Jesus from Du Claw Brewing Co.

It is a chocolate and peanut butter stout. I felt a little to heavy on the PB. the flavors overpowered the stout base IMHO. not bad at all though. Worth a try if not just for the name. did I mention how I loved the name of it?

I agree that the name is neat, but that's as far as I go.

I was gifted a bottle this past summer and I couldn't get past a few sips. I personally thought the brew was aweful and dumped it out on the ground.

I usually enjoy a Guinness. Recently, I've tried and enjoyed Samuel Adams Cold Snap and Escape Route from their seasonal collection. The Crystal Pale Ale I found alright but have never enjoyed the Boston Lager.

Anyone ever had Utopias? I had the opportunity to have some a few years ago at a family Christmas Party and it was excellent. Tasted more like a sweetened whisky than beer.

Picked up some Troegs Nugget Nectar, Bells Two Hearted and Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin recently. Thumbs up for all three!

Also picked up a growler of Smuttynose Zinneke that I plan to enjoy over the weekend. When tasting it, it seemed like it would go great with a cigar. Hopefully it's not too cold to test that theory.

Currently, a Samual Adams Rebel IPA. Decent taste.

Yesterday, a Stone Go To IPA. Nice session ale. Low alcohol. Medium to long finish on the grapefruit flavor. Wondering if Stone is using hop oil for flavoring at the end of the boil.

Had a 2010 Allagash Belgian Stout. What a difference a few years make. So smooth with the flavors not as brash as when it was new. The carbonation seemed finer with better lacing than I remember when first trying it (in 2010). Did not taste any part of the 7.5% alcohol either. Great beer

Had a 2010 World Wide Stout a couple weeks back, it was fascinating, tasted very little like a fresh one, it was more of a subtle fruity taste similar to a barleywine. Didn't taste anything like its 18-20% ABV, didn't really taste any alcohol on it other than a little after taste. Very different from the syrupy texture of a fresh one. My roommate found it at a local beer store that was clearing out their cellar, he paid a premium on it but it was well worth it. I wish we had more

I have 3-4 more Allagash's. Costco had them for cheap at the time. Also bought some Delirium and St. Bernardus at the same time. The Delirium need to go through cheese cloth. The St. Bernardus are too strong just for me. The Allagash can be drunk like a regular beer.

A brilliant new beer hall and brewery opened almost walking distance to my house called Jack's Abbey. They had another facility I believe, but this location is new. They specialize in lagers and the whole site is just great. Long benches like a german beer hall, great food and fantastic beer. Bright airy decor and generally nice atmosphere have put this new place as one of our favorite restaurants in the town; regardless of cuisine or style.

If ever in Framingham, MA; this is a must visit to anyone serious about beer.

Tried out the new BCBS Barleywine, not as good (yet) as the 2014 that turned me onto Barleywine's in general, and significantly less sour than last year (as expected thanks to the pasteurization). Hope to be opening up some regular and coffee's soon, been dying to give the coffee a try, had to stand in line extra early to get some this year

Dave128
11-28-2016, 11:40 AM
I've been very fortunate to not have to wait in any lines. A buddy of mine is friends with the owner of a beverage center. He's been getting me a case of the regular BCBS and a bottle of whatever variant he was able to get in stock for the past couple years.

stearns
11-28-2016, 11:45 AM
Last year I went to a Wegmans in the middle of nowhere about a half hour after they opened and they still about 10 cases of regular and about 4 cases of barleywine, cheap and no limits. I went to a closer one this year a few minutes after they opened and they were "out" of the coffee (although I heard from somebody who went to the same one the minute they opened and they were "out" then as well, so likely went to employees), and let us get one of each of the other two. We went from there and waited about 45 minutes in line at another store that only had one case of coffee, so one bottle to the first 12 people in line. Naturally at the point I had to get another few bottles of the regular and barley :tu

Is Heady Topper all that it's cracked up to be?

Seems like a lot of hype to me. There are a ton of very good to excellent IPAs out there. Can't imagine what makes this one so much better than the rest.

Come out to San Diego and you'll have an opportunity to sample more IPAs than you can imagine. San Diego is arguably the craft beer mecca in the US. With over 125 brew houses in the county, it would take you some time to even scratch the surface. Hell, there are over a dozen within a 5 mile radius of my home. Danger, Will Robinson!

Last night had some Boulevard Collaboration No. 6 and Wicked Weed Milk & Cookies, both very tasty but I preferred the Milk & Cookies, a little on the sweet side but balanced with some cinnamon and (I think) oats.

Labatt's.
I put turkey and chocolate chips in it so I'm all up tight and in the groove.
If I'm especially frisky, I also add egg shells and coffee grounds.
NEVER fruit. I'm picky about my beer. :tu

So you would recommend the Jameson Cask Aged independently of any beer correlation? Trying to decide if I should buy a bottle.

stearns

Yes definitely, especially at the $25 price point I paid. It didn't have any real relation to the great divide beer, I just had that one out and thought "this would be a good time to have some Jameson." It's a common thought for me :D
