Take off the Reds glasses, when you are used to FSN stroking Cincinnati egos for 162 games its hard to have someone point out the flaws in your favorite team. Its nice to hear some baseball knowledge during the games from a national team, not local homers. I like to hear SPORTS commentary. They were on both sides of the entire game. They sided with the Reds on plenty of close calls.

I thought Arroyo pitched a great game. He's not known for his K's and if it wasn't for 2 errors he wouldn't have given up a run. IMO he was really smart with his locations and speeds. Still can't believe our 2 best infielders booted a couple of balls :sh

I was commenting on their useless talk they use to fill the gaps in boring games and how they are so 1000% biased to anything Reds. I realize they are paid to cheer for the Reds, but you need to maintain some subjectiveness to your covering of the game. But its claims like "Jay Bruce is the best RF and maybe OF in major league baseball right now" that really show the mentality of their job. There are homers, but I really don't want to hear them tell me how great every player is and how they should all be All-Stars, Gold Glover's and future HOF'ers. I am a sports fan first, I want to hear about the game, not have the Reds shoved down my throat. :2

Nuxhall was a legend. I don't have a problem with the announcers rooting for the Reds (God knows I get enough of the commentators/play-by-play men rooting for the Braves down here). My main problem is with Son of Marty constantly telling stories during the game. It's as if he doesn't even realize there's a game going on. He's gonna finish his story regardless of what happens on the field. He could be talking about his underwear being in the laundry, and while he's telling his story, Votto could have hit a grand slam, but he's gonna finish his story before he mentions Votto's accomplishment.

I am too ADD to watch a game with no sound. Its just hard to watch a game and listen to them make excuses for bad plays or terrible at-bats just because they are paid to try to make the Reds look good. Thats why I get upset when the ESPN games are blacked out because no one even goes to the games. I never listened to Nuxhall. I am a sports fan first, I am a Reds fan by default, thusly I want to listen to sports commentary, not Reds commentary. :2

I hate to talk about next year when we haven't been eliminated yet, but it looks dark for Cincy right now, so what do you think we'll be doing about third base next year? Rolen has been a very important part of getting us here, but it looks as if he's done all he's going to do for us. Any thoughts? Left field is up for grabs in my book too, even though I have been a Gomes fan this year too. First, second, rf, and cf are pretty much a lock for next year, but 3rd, lf, and maybe short should be under very tight scrutiny.

I know everyone likes Stubbs, but he has hardly shown that he is a long term answer in CF. He would be best suited for pinch running. He can't get on base and leads the team in K's. He swings wildly at bad pitches and doesn't make any kind of spectacular plays in the OF. :2

I am not saying he will sit, I am just saying he should sit. Kind of like they will pitch Arnoldis Chapman everyday until his arm falls off regardless of how well he does (see: Homer Bailey). They have the kids there for a reason, but there is a difference between being stubborn and not wanting to admit you are wrong and doing what is right for the franchise. :2

I guess we'll hafta agree to disagree. I like Thom Brennaman, Chris Welsh, The Cowboy, and Marty. You need to remember that most of folks watching the Reds telecast are Reds fans, so they don't mind a pro-Reds announcing style. Thom's style is folksy, I like it. You guys are too young to remember guys like Dizzy Dean and Phil Rizzuto who kept talking about buying pizza after the game at a place that was a competitor for a sponsor of Yankees baseball and even Waite Hoyt for the Reds, who regailed audiences with stories of his days with the Yankees of the late 1920s.
The Reds had a good season, hopefully they'll go farther in 2011!

Another free agent that the Reds could have really used ends up somewhere else. Greinke to the Brewers. It looks like they could have offered Stubbs in that trade and gotten a much better prospect with him. Pony up some cash or players and make the team better. :bh

Seeing the full trade for Greinke and Bettancourt today, it looks like the Reds could have gotten him for Stubbs (who strikes out more than anyone) and a couple decent pitching prospects (whom the Reds can't groom anyways). A Cy Young pitcher and a good middle infielder for an over rated OF and some pitching projects sounds like a good trade to me.:bh

Looks like Edgar Renteria is gonna be our everyday shortstop rather than Janish. A deal for around $3 million has been made (not sure if it's official yet). Jocketty promises that Janish will be the starter, with Renteria playing backup, but with Dusty's track record, my bet is Janish loses his spot in Spring Training until Renteria gets hurt (b/c he's more than injury prone).

That was the point, that the Reds would see him just as many times. I guess I worded it wrong. There are only about 4 logical options for him if he makes it to free-agency, Cubs being one of them. I am not sure any team will be offering up the reported $300 million/10 years he wants, I am guessing $255-260,000,000 for 8 years gets it done. If I were betting, he ends up a Cardinal for the rest of his career but the open market will dictate the price. :tu

There is a reason that they are in Triple A. Because there are better players in our organization to make the major league team. We don't trade all of our prospects just b/c all of them are good enough to play in the majors. If we did that, we would have no farm system. Remember, we only have a 40 man roster. It's always a good idea to have the rest MLB ready. We have a great farm system right now and I'm happy that we have plenty of back up in case some of our regulars are injury plagued this year. Look at Pittsburgh. They have no money, no major league team, and no minor league prospects that are worth a crap. They are there just to sell a few tickets and make money through revenue sharing. Our organization is finally coming to the realization that winning makes money, so we have signed some excellent talent over the last few years and have drafted decent. Our triple a team could beat the Pirates any day of the week.

I'll bet you Stubbs bats under .310 this year. You want the over?
I'll bet you Jay Bruce hits less than 50 homeruns this year. You want the over? ;)
I'll bet you Homer Bailey wins less than 15 games this year. You want the over?

I'll bet you a fiver they don't win the World Series. With as weak as this division is (again), they definitely could win it. ;)
Why not bet the playoffs? You just told Aaron that you need to have a lot of hope for them to have a good year again. They made it to the playoffs last year...

Sorry what I was trying to say is that I hope they can do even better then last year. I look forward to seeing what Leake and Wood can do with a year under the belt.

Because there is no question they should make the playoffs in this weak division. :tu

I am not just saying it, its true. When you win the division with a record not even good enough to win the Wild Card, and the division contains the worst team in baseball, and the division has a stellar .472 winning percentage, I would say thats a pretty weak division. Lest you forget the Reds second half schedule was the easiest in baseball and had 8 games against winning teams of their last 45. The Reds won it last year and got swept convincingly in the playoffs, yet you proclaim them to be this years World Series Champs! I am sorry I am a little more of a sports fan and a realist than a homer. :tu

Leake hasn't looked good this spring. He might get lucky and make it back up to Cincy before the year's out.

You are right. With Cueto out for the time being, Leake looks to be the number 5 starter.

More importantly, how long until the Reds miss use him and he needs Tommy John? I think he is going to be best suited as a set up man. In the long run, throwing 102 is going to shorten his career severely if he is throwing 85+ pitches every 5 days. His control is lacking and you can only throw it past people so many times before they figure you out. The Reds bullpen has been weak and he will be better suited there :2

All but four of the 145 Reds games on Fox Sports Ohio will be in high definition. That means 141 games will be in HD. And all four SD game will be in the first two weeks, so all telecasts from April 15 to end of the season will be in HD. FTW!!!!!

Offensively we look good. Defensively we look good (with the exceptions of a few old people issues on the left side of the infield). Pitching has looked good (so far) but I'm sure that's gonna hurt us in the long run. Pray the injury bug doesn't bite us.:tu Could be a sign of a great year.
