Not bad, not bad. I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm as it was just the Pirates, but it is a good sign to see 2 complete games and the top of the line up is red hot right now. We'll see what happens this weekend. I'm with Andy, if we take 1 out of the 3 I will be happy.

Sounds like a good bet to me. My Cards are playing like little league right now ... can''t hit, can't pitch and can't field. Just got swept by the Astros for crying out loud, a team with the worst record (13-21) in the National League.

Massett= suck
Lincoln=suck
Cordero=suck
Keep Rhodes and Danny Ray Herrera and trade for some help in the bullpen. Trade Harang for some good relievers. Forget a power hitting LF. We've survived so far w/o one. Our problem is our bullpen. Masset should stay b/c he has potential. He's dropped his ERA from 10+ to a low 6. His ERA in May is a 1.something...
Four errors didn't help either.
A lot of people are blaming Nix for the Grand Slam as it bounced off his glove. He didn't lose this ballgame. Put the blame where it's due: the bullpen.
I think Heisey should get a start or two against Cleveland, but not b/c Nix lost the game (be honest with yourself, you know this loss isn't his fault).
Why did Baker not stay with Rhodes? We probably still would have won if he was on the mound. He doesn't give up home runs like CoCo does. Cordero was a mistake today.
Back to second place, boys... and soon to be in the cellar if we don't do something about our bullpen. Price has worked wonders with the starters, but the bullpen still has much to be desired.
smitdavi
05-20-2010, 05:47 PM
Yeah that is not Nix's fault. He gave it a damn good effort and missed it by an inch or so. He shouldn't have been expected to make that catch to save the game nor should he have been put in that spot. Cairo def needs to shoulder some of that blame for sure along with the bullpen.

We aren't going to get anyone for Harang. Everyone knows that he isn't the pitcher he once was. I agree with bringing up Wood. They said on the radio that Chapman needs to refine his control just a touch b/c he will walk a lot of batters right now at the MLB level.

Harang is worth more than he appears. No, we can't trade him for Jeter or Heyward, but we can get a couple of pitching prospects for him. There are some teams out there that would be glad to have Harang on their team (when you're desparate, you'll take anybody).

And last I checked Stubbs led the team in strikeouts and was 15th on the team in average. REAL Stats :tu
Lets not forget he is 61st in average in the National League for outfielders, not all players, just outfielders. And most of the guys ranked below him are pinch hitters. Oh and for everyday players (players with 3.1 AB's per game) he has the 91st best average, out of 96 everyday players. Oh, 4th highest in strikeouts too and all 3 of the regulars in the outfield rank in the top 20 in strikeouts. :hm

I very rarely bet more than 10 bucks ever. I do gambling just for fun. I put $100 in my account 2 years ago and I have not had to reload it. I have $160 in it. I just do it for fun. I made a lot of money on the Bengals this year. No one would give them the respect they deserved so they were usually underdogs. ;)

I would try to park in the lot next to US Bank arena, quick walk and a lot faster to get out of after the game. If you park downtown on the otherside of the highway expect a long walk to the car and a long wait in the garages. The food is average at best. Get something with 'Cincinnati' flavor, like Skyline Chili or a Queen City bratwurst. Everything else is pretty much standard ballpark fare. If you have the time, take a looksie through the Reds HOF Museum. Also try to go in through thr front of the park behind homeplate to take a look at the statues in the concourse. :tu

No kidding, that was a blowout!
Still, it was fun to go to a MLB game. :) My first trip to GABP was enjoyable. That's a really nice ballpark they've got up there. It looks huge and tall at first glance but then when I took it all in, the size of the field, the size of the fans on the other side, got it all in perspective, it just looked _right_. The food was good too; gotta love a ballpark hot dog. :D
Only sour note of the night; a 30-something-perpetual-frat-boy-type sat down in front of us talking non-stop to someone he knew who was sitting in our section, standing, sitting, standing, calling for a beer, talking on the phone, yap-yap-yapping away, but he left after an inning thankfully. I guess he needed to grace another section with his presence or something.
The game was fun to watch and we had really nice seats. I didn't miss a single play on the field except when I got up for another hot dog. I can't say the Astros put on a good performance but that's ok, I was rooting for the Reds anyway.
Getting out of town was not as bad as I thought it would be. I parked less than a 10 minute walk from the ballpark which made getting out of there a breeze. Traffic looked pretty messy but moved a lot smoother than expected. From the moment I shut the car door I was back at the hotel in Florence, KY in less than 40 minutes.

There's some new jackass over on the cincinnati.com forums saying that Votto's injury was really another nervous breakdown. If it was another mental episode, I don't think Votto would have still been sitting in the dugout during the games that he sat out. Neck injuries are serious business, so stiffness in the neck should not be taken lightly.

Nope, and I don't care. It doesn't matter how you get to the playoffs, as long as you get there. :tu
And when they make a first round exit against the Wild Card team it will be the old mantra "We'll get 'em next year". :rolleyes:

We definitely have to vote him in :tu

Yup, the only Red (Central Division 1st Place team) even on the starting team is Arthur Rhodes... booooo.

Frankly, because the fans vote for the starters, none of the Reds were going to be a starter. Small market team with fickle fans who don't care enough to vote or even go to games, they have been one of the top two teams in the division and can't sell out a game. Votto should have been the manager's choice as he is likely not going to win the 'Vote in'. :rolleyes:

I agree. Charlie Manuel sucks. He just got lucky with the players he has in Philly. He sucked in Cleveland. Charlie Manuel must have slept through all of the Red's games. There is a strong possibility of that since he is so old.

Which is crazy...there could be a good argument for him being the starting 1st baseman for the NL. I'm convinced he will be on the team by the end of the week.

He has the best stats of the 'Vote in' players, but Reds fans couldn't vote any of the other players in either. I am still very suprised that the players didn't vote Votto in and very suprised that Manuel didn't pick him as his last player. The argument for him as the starter is deifinitely there, but there was no way he will ever beat out Pujols for the fan vote as long as he is playing. :tu
Even Griffey got over a million votes this year based on legacy, because that was certainly not based on stats. He is the all-time leading vote getter for the Mid-Summer Classic and certainly didn't have the stats every year to be the starter. :2

They have been living on the edge all season and most of them have fallen our way thus far, but if we have used up all our luck for the season and they start going the other way, we could be in a world of hurt. :bh

He is up against the MLB leader in saves and bigger market players, but it sounds like he might be in the lead right now. Whats sick, is the players should have put him in from jump street. :confused:

That would be nice, but I don't want to give up the farm for him. I also hope it isn't just a "rent a player" scenario for a half a year. If we trade for him I hope we can find a way to sign him to a long term deal to keep him around for a while.

Not likely. If we get him, I think it'll be for just the rest of the year. He'll be too expensive when he hits free agency.

Yesterday was Dusty's fault. I know he wanted to get Leake a CG, but he should have taken him out when they were getting singles left and right off him. Clearly he was tired.

He was still one double play away from getting out of that game. Its just as much Cordero's fault for coming in and blwoing a two out save. :td
They have gotten most every last at-bat game to go their way so far this season, they were bound to lose one or two. If the trend swings and they go back to 50-50 they will finish .500 at best. You have to remember they have around 17 or 18 last at-bat wins and 10 straight on the road before the last two. If they lose even 5 of those they are below .500 going into the break. The Reds have been extremely lucky this season and if it continues they have a shot, but if it changes they could fall fast. :tu
