Haven't touch my pipes much since I moved back in January, but I pulled them all out and made up for it with a vengeance today. Had bowls of LGF, an unmarked mystery jar with a few bowls of a curly cut that I believe was Three Nuns or Heinrichs Curly Cut and a bowl of a private blend that is described as "Made of the finest Red and Bright Virginias, a pinch of extraordinary Izmir Oriental leaf for spice, pressed and cut into flakes, with a hint of Burley to shut that one guy up". They were in a Tinsky apple, a Stanwell 191 bulldog and a Tsuge brandy respectively.

G&H Westmoreland in my nording.

This is a mild blend, with thick smoke which leaves a syrupy coating on the palate. The flavor is of mild tonquin (sort of a mix of vanilla and slight cinnamon) and subtle latakia which gives a slight spice through the nose.

Room aroma is that of a sugar cookie. I am on the fence about whether or not I like this tobacco. Its almost too mild for my taste.

C&D Epiphany, not too shabby. My 2nd bowl this blend is diverse, certain tobaccos seem to jump out and run. First bowl was all burley with some VA's bleeding through. Second bowl was latakia and perique.

Last few days been smoking C&D star of the east. this is supposed to be a knock your socks off latakia blend. But to be honest, it's lack luster. Trying to find a nice latakia blend in bulk to stock up on. I'll just keep some odyssey on hand for now.

It a basic English/Oriental blend that is enjoyable, but it wont keep you on the edge of your seat. Kinda like a yard gar, you smoke it while focusing on something else. I keep my 50g tin out on the porch just in case I don't like a what I'm smoking at the moment so I can just dump the bowl out and fill it with this stuff.

The little cavendish heart is just there for some background condimental sweetness. But if you don't like it, try PS Luxury Navy Flake instead, which is basically the same as LBF minus the cavendish bullseye.

Well, at least to me it's every bit as good as I made it sound. YMMV of course. This is a road all of us must trek by ourselves, as our body chemistries differ and so do our tastebuds (some of us have more, some have fewer of them). I had a bit of an adventure with that order. They sent Victorian Stroll, an English blend, by mistake. They immediately made it right and sent me the correct order a few days later. It turns I also like the Victorian Stroll anyway, so it's all good to me. :tu

To be honest I notice only traces of it in the tobacco I find it mends well with the perique. I get the VA's then the sweet / spicy runs in and out of the smoke. So far so good. I just grabbed two disk stuffed em into the pipe and went to town. Still smoking it as I type. I think that most blends use too much cavendish maybe that's why I did not care for it too much.

Might need a brother to split a box up with. Dunno if I'm game for another case of jars...

P.S. Luxury Twist Flake. Not sure what to make of this blend. It seems to have some sort of casing on it. It's extremely sweet. I'm not sure it it's from the cavendish "pressing" done to the flake or not. The room note is not too bad. Maybe a change of pace smoke, but I dont think it's something I would load up on...

Two bowls so far tonight.
1st bowl of Louisiana Red from pipesandcigars good Va/Per Blend. I like the range on the VA's. Will be getting more of this for sure.
2nd bowl is Ten to Midnight another blend from P&C. Latakia krumble kake of sorts. I first tried to break pieces off and sit them in the bowl and smoke similar to a flake but that was a massively bad idea. I dumped the baccy and rubbed out the kake now it is smoking like a dream. Good Lat blend but isnt quite a Lat bomb. Good for when you want a good shot of Latakia but not so much. Definitely going on the pound purchase list...

I've only smoked 1 bowl so far. It definitely did as it's supposed to, directly the smoke to the roof of my mouth. Which proved good for the VA Flake I was smoking since I tend to puff heavy on VA Blends. I'm going to have to give it a few more smokes to make a real decision on the p-lip.

Frog Morton is a VA/LAT blend that comes highly recommended by most. http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=F&TID=768

Sutliffe Private Stock also makes a blend named "Westminster" which is also VA/LAT. Which might be worth checking out due to the price.

Totally different.

Have you tried either yet?

Union Square and Laurel Heights last night. Had some trouble with the Union Sq. last night. But this is usually how it is for me when I try to smoke flakes just stuffed into my pipe. Didn't let it dry out enough and didnt load the pipe well enough. Oh well still tasted good. Laurel Heights keeps getting better and better each night. I read a good article from G.L.Pease about first impressions of tobacco ( http://pipesmagazine.com/blog/put-that-in-your-pipe/the-fickle-nature-of-first-impressions/ ) and I've been smoking the same blend in the same pipe each time.

Give Erinmore Flake a shot. It's a Va/Burley with some kind of topping. Has a floral note but is rather enjoyable. Also theres Orlik Golden Sliced. Its more of a sweeter VA with burley but it's not bad either. The only other Bur/VA blend that I have had an enjoyed was Kingfisher, but it's been rather hard to find online recently. I've got a tin of Exhausted Rooster and Burley Flake #3 still sealed in the tin I've been thinking about opening...Cumberland from G.L.Pease gets a ton of rave reviews too.

I have Erinmore, 1Q, and Orlik on hand and open if you wanna set up a trade. Unni flake is on my want to try list. Shoot me a PM if ya wanna set up a trade.

Barbary Coast in a cob. This stuff is great, I just feel lightheaded every time I smoke it.
