I've jumped off the wagon the past two weeks. I've gained about five pounds...:hn
Gonna take the weekend to eat good and get back to healthy eating and exercise on Monday.

I'm still hanging around 205. Still a lot higher than I like.
My symptoms have been really bad for the last week, so I don't expect much. When I'm in bad shape I don't eat at all because the pain makes my stomach roll, but as soon as I get a window I eat a lot. Add inactivity to that and it's tough to manage my weight.
It'll all come together shortly, I'm sure. :tu

I've gained since my last weigh in too. The last couple of days have been kind of brutal. My brother keeps breaking out the plain ruffled chips with dip.:bh

Need to get this back under control.

Have faith brother, we will persevere.

Go ahead and buy them. They could make the difference.

I'm not going to report in today and embarass myself, but in three weeks I'll give a full report.
Switching over to low carb as of today for a bit. All lean meats and green veggies. Low carb, high fiber.

Hello all! I thought I'd get in on this thread seeing as I've just hopped back on the weight-loss bandwagon. I'll give you a bit of background on my situation. About 5 years ago I started Weight Watchers. At the time I was 267 lbs, and my goal weight was around 175. In a span of 8 months, I lost 77 lbs. Then, I lost my job. I got a job as a courier, which made it really difficult to stick to the plan. It took me over a year to lose the last 15 lbs, but I did it. The problem was that by the time I did it, I decided "Hey, I'm done! I don't need to follow the plan anymore!" So, in 3 years, I gained it all back.:td

So, my starting point is about the same as last time: 266.4. I want to get back to being 175 one year from now, and I think I can do it. I'm not a courier anymore, so it's a bit easier to avoid the drive thru pitfalls. I went back to Weight Watchers about a month ago and had been doing well the first couple of weeks. I'd been walking about 2 miles a day 3 times a week; but then I ramped up the walking too much (3.5 miles every day) and my knees rebelled. I had to rest them for a week, and I'm gingerly getting back into it. Unfortunately, I fell off the healthy eating wagon that week, so I'm at square one. Fortunately, I'm still feeling motivated so starting today everything is back on. Wish me luck, and I will post updates on my progress on Saturdays.

Good luck to everyone! :banger

I'm as big as a house. I landed at about 215 now, gained a good 20 pounds.
It's gonna be a probelm till I get my meds ironed out. I'm not sweating it. I'll be skinny as a rail by the time summer is over.

I guess I'll jump in here also. Was between 185-190 all throughout college and now I'm at 240, which is down from 247 from a couple of weeks ago. I'm dieting and working out daily. I'm prepping for a sprint triathlon in September and hope that after all the hard work this summer I'll be down around 210. My ultimate goal would be 200, at 6'2" I feel like that's a reasonable weight for me.

I've been doing weight watchers and watching what i eat for a while now (with some occasional slip ups) - but i finally started walking 9 days ago. First time in my life ive done any activity and stuck to it. I don't hate it anymore, but i still don't love it. Hopefully i can increase the amount over time. To start i am doing around a mile in 20 minutes (> 3.0 MPH) and doing about 1.2 - 1.3 miles every morning. Just starting, but im really trying.

Good to see some participation again here, as well as some new faces. I switched over yesterday to a low carb diet. I like low carb, but I need to watch my sodium and cholesterol level while I do this. Two omelets today have killed my cholesterol for the day.

Ok, normally I will try to post my updates in the morning but I had to work today. I weighed myself today and I am at 259.4. (When I weigh in I am fully clothed.) So despite my knee issues and falling off the wagon a bit I haven't lost any ground, in fact I lost 1 pound. I did start walking again at the end of this week and the knees feel good, so I'm excited to be back on track. Hope everyone is keepin' on!

Good morning, all! Weighed in this morning at 257.6 lbs; lost another 1.8 lbs. :banger

Last Sunday, I dragged out the Wii Balance Board from its hiding place and fired up Wii Fit. We got it about a year ago, set it up, and then didn't use it again until now. But after the issues I've been having with my knees, I wanted to try something different. Laugh if you must, but I'm having a blast with it. Unfortunately, it's reminding me just how out of shape I am. My right hamstring was very sore for the last 2 days after doing just a few lunges.

One thing I have noticed is that when I do Wii Fit before I go to work I have a LOT more energy than I did with just walking. My step-up goal next month will be to do Wii Fit in the morning and then add walking every other day when I'm on my lunch break at work. I probably won't do that yet for a couple of weeks, as I want to make sure I will stick with the Wii Fit workouts first.

Have a good week, and good luck to everyone! :tu

I miss this thread. Suppose I should jump back in.
I got up to about 217 from all the laying on the couch being sick. I've gotten back to drinking my grape water, and I'm slowly changing my diet back to more decent stuff.
Last summer this time I was about this same weight. I was eating very healthy and drinking tons of water and was very active.
That's all working out again, but slowly.
The main problem was that I couldn't get around very good, so I didn't do much cooking at all. Most of my food was out of a box, mainly quickie junk. I'm getting away from that now. I've also stopped stressing about it. I've prayed on it, given it to God, and I'm calm with it. That makes it easy to eat right and stay away from crap. It very much balances overeating.
We went to a graduation party yesterday and I ate right, then we had to stop at Applebees on the way home to feed the kids again. I wasn't hungry at all, so I had fiesta lime chicken. I didn't need it or want it, so I overrode what my body was saying. That's bad. I'm all done doing that now. :tu

Ok, peeps...here's the deal. I've procrastinated far too much in this. I'm at 230.2 now and I am vowing to hit that 200 mark before I leave on our 2 week Disney trip on August 8th, so I have right at 7 weeks to get there. I will also hit that 180 mark before the end of the year.

Additionally, I've developed the numbing/tingling down in my feet/legs again after my surgery. I'm hoping some weight loss will significantly reduce this feeling. As it is right now, my left left from below the knee feels like it has the "falling asleep" feeling without the pins/needles feeling. At any rate, I will be scheduling my 2nd back surgery for just after finals in December/before Christmas.

It will come off slow and steady now. :tu

Down from 230.2 to 226.4 this week. Not too shabby considering I overdid it for my father's day grilling with 2 burgers and a butterfly pork loin sandwich.

I did some research into some thermogenic products because I used a product called Ripped Fuel about 10-12 years ago (when they used the real ephedra before it became illegal to use OTC). I ordered a product called OxyElite Pro off Amazon to help boost my metabolism/decrease my appetite/increase my energy and will start on it Wednesday. My plan will be to hit a cycling class Monday-Friday for an hour and then spend another 45-60 minutes doing a combination of cardio/light resistance training (mostly targeting abs, chest, arms, and shoulders). Might even throw in a P90X plyometrics session in on the weekends.

I was down 6.2 lbs this past week for a total of 10.0 lbs in 2 weeks. I didn't start any cardio at all until the 2nd week.

At any rate, I did a 45 minute spinning class on Monday and then did another 45 minutes on the treadmill afterward. My hip flexor has been sore since yesterday afternoon and will now have to lay off the cardio a bit to recover from it. I don't want this prolonging into a big deal.

20 more pounds to go until August 7th and then another 20 pounds after I get back. (I'm hoping that number doesn't increase over a 2 week period in Florida).

Ok so I'm new to this board & thread, but I wanted to jump on in here... and give you my journey to date... I'd been slowly gaining weight since sophomore year of college and tried a couple of crash diets that were junk. I have a step-brother in a very similar situation and he decided to seek professional (weight loss management clinic) help. He is 22 weeks into the program and has lost 95 pounds and looks and feels the best that I have ever seen him look and feel. I jumped on board this same program about 6 weeks ago at 311.3 lbs. The program is small "meals" five times a day and 60-80 oz of water along with a workout plan/activity. Its geared as a life change and not a diet. It's sinking in well, with me getting to the gym on an eliptical 3-4/wk 30 mins each and soon I plan on adding a trainer. I weigh in on Wed. Nights (privately, with a nurse who also checks bp and I have blood work done every other week with a meeting with a doctor) so I'll be checking every Wed. Night/ Thursday with loss. (Sorry for hijacking, I thought a backstory was appropriate).

Starting weight - 311.3 lbs
Weighed in - 283.4 lbs
Total loss - 27.9 lbs

My goal is to be in a 38" waist pant (ideally 200 - 220) and possibly XL shirts, its more about finding what I'm happy with and not a number.

good story, and keep it up :)

I've lost about 18 lbs so far, and i just walk in the mornings for 30 minutes, and tried increasing how often i eat, and decreased the size of meals. It's working slowly but surely, and i'm also not TOTALLY changing my lifestyle, i still indulge, and perhaps too often, but the weight is still slowly coming off. I didn't gain it overnight, and realism tells me the slower i lose it, the better chance i have of keeping it off.

I think someone fed me a tree in my sleep. I'm back to a water and starvation diet. I've finally figured out a few things I eat that screw up my meds, and we've tested them, and I know what to avoid. The docs are pushing up my meds, and as I get better I can exercise more and get around more.
I should be twig skinny and ripped in no time. :D

I've been there many times myself. I have a couple of real motivating factors that have me really focused on reaching my goal. One is getting to
a point I can take my kids to the pool at Disney and not confusing them for sea world. The other is trying to figure out if taking pressure off my back will keep me from having another back surgery in December. The main thing is just not to let yourself go and gain back what you've already accomplished. Even when I'm on vacation next month, I plan on spending 30-45 minutes a day on the treadmill.

Very disappointing week considering how much cardio I put in. I was only down 1.4 lbs this week, but did pretty lousy on Sunday/Monday. Had a cookout on Sunday and just couldn't help myself from getting a burger, brat, and a dog. :( Yesterday was a challenge of sorts being on the road and having to eat out for 2 meals.

I've got to cut 13.4 lbs in 18 days if I'm going to make my goal before we go on vacation. I figure the last 11 days worth, I'll probably put in 3-3.5 hours/day split over 2 sessions each day if I'm going to have a chance to make it.

And now I’ve found my way back here! (I have some catching up to do! I think I’ll only read the last week or so....)

I'm back on the wagon, 1 week already.
Smaller meals, smaller intervals; a dose of Weight Watchers as well.....

The long story will come in another post shortly.

Can I borrow some of that rope? I weighed in for the first time since May or June and I'm at 271! That's the highest I've ever been. I feel like sh!t most days too. I'm gonna drown myself in my sorrows and alcohol tonight and grab the rope tomorrow. I have to make some decisions about what kind of regiment I want to do, both exercise and dietary. WW worked for me years ago, low carb hasn't done too much for me, and just counting calories with nutrimirror doesn't seem to do too much either. Maybe I'll go back to WW. I haven't been to the gym in 6mos. and my membership ran out. Maybe I'll just stick to home workouts, running, cardio, Wii Fit, etc...

Jesus Christ I knew I was getting bigger but I didn't know I was a fat ass...:td

@andysutherland: the problem with working out at home is that is so easy to skip a workout. i think kettlebells could be a good option for you.
i love chicken breast (tons of variety) and protein shakes (i use them as reward after working out ).
i dont like diets because most people do them for a couple of months, then quit + are suprised that they gained weight. i cheated myself on diets all the time. now i just eat what i want and if i didnt loose weight i eat healthier the next weeks + put more workouts in.

That, I agree with. But Weight Watchers (WW) is a learnign guide, to better understanding what and how much food you take in. It starts as a diet, but helps to develop better habits.

We stopped eating regularly, and controlling our portion size, and I'm back where I started... that's not true, I'm worse.

I'm too comfortable saying "I've lost weight, but it found me and brought friends."

We're back to paying attention, and we're already showing progress.

The word diet has been distorted in today's society. We are always on a diet. A diet techinically is what we eat on an everyday basis (a dumbed down definition). When someone goes on a "diet" they really mean that they are changing their diet for a short time.

I have been away from this thread for a while. Ok I have been away from the board awhile.

My goal was to hit 215lbs and I accomplished that in June of this year. I was 212lbs and 14.5% body fat when I did a 226km bike ride. I was and am in pretty good shape now. I have put approximately 10lbs back on, some of that intentionally and some just good living over the summer.

I have kept my exercise up somewhat over the summer but now is time to get back at it. I want to put on some muscle weight and bring up my metabolism so that I can eat a broader range of calories and not worry about gaining weight.

Here is where I stared.

December 25th 2009 293 lbs.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg158/silverfox67/Christmas2009-14-1.jpg

July 28th 215lbs doing something I haven't done in 20years.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg158/silverfox67/Ski.jpg

Now I am cranking it back up again. Good eating combined with intense cardio, lifting and plyometrics. The goal is to put 15 to 20 good pounds (muscle) back on by Christmas.

Let me know how you are all doing out there................Where is Andy at ?

I fell off the wagon over the summer but am working on getting back to 250 (which was my pre-summer weight). Once I get down to that weight, my next goal is 225.

Great thread, I did the math a couple days ago and realized I turn 30 sixteen weeks from tomorrow. I'd like to lose 3lbs a week until I turn 30. That's really just a start but it would be a great one.

I'll focus on eating whole foods, lots of fruit, veggies, and lean protein. Exercise will include walking, working up to running, sit ups and push ups. I hate gyms and don't have room in the apt for weights.

Maybe run a contest here to motivate myself :D Looking forward to this change! It's so motivating to see others who have made a big change here!!

Hey gang.
Fell off the wagon for a few days as we were 'vacationing' at Foxwoods.
- Fuddruckers for Dinner
- Festival Buffet for Breakfast (was reasonable)
- Hard Rock for Dinner (Granny Apple Burger)

Supplemented with a lot of walking, a 20 minute lifecycle bike 'ride' one morning, some walking, a swim in the pool and jac-a-ruzi, some walking...

Did I tell you that we did some walking????

Okay. Here it is.
1 month since starting to work on our eating (a.k.a. dieting)

Down 9.4, up 1.4 :(, down 1.6, down 2.8, down 1.4

I'm changing my whole diet again, and that'll help. I'm never home, always traveling, and that makes keeping a decent diet almost impossible.
I'm changing meds yet again, and hat always takes toll, cause it lays me out and I get no exercise at all.
I've been really pushing to raise my activity level, doing all sorts of stuff I'm not supposed to do, and I feel a lot better. It's taking a major toll on my back though.
Fortunately I see a new doctor soon to try and get that managed.

This morning weighed in at 170, but that was before breakfast and I have been weighing with pants so I would say closer 172. 4lb drop from last week to this week. Not bad not great. I started running again so that helped because I had a few days of eating not so clean. Probably would have hit 6 pounds if I had kept the hardcore paleo/ modified keto diet going. Looks like I should break into the upper 160s by next week.

Scott I know it sucks eating clean when traveling but there are lots of little things you can do. I work patrol and even have a system for eating at fastfood places with minimal damage.

Managing Calories and working my ass off.

Monday was Chest and back (I do a bit of different shoulder stuff almost every workout day as they are secondaries to most other exercises)
50 minutes of Cardio plus the 90sec in between each set. Been keeping my avg HR up around 140 for the 2hr duration of both workouts.

I started some protein supplements (ISO Whey) as well as I will be moving to a heavier weight phase in a week and a bit

Tuesday was off day

Wednesday was bi's and tri's and shoulders and also another 50 minutes of cardio. My power seems to be going up and I raised most of my weights again today.
50 minutes of Cardio plus the 90sec in between each set. Been keeping my avg HR up around 140 for the 2hr duration of both workouts.

Thursday was Chest and back again
50 minutes of Cardio plus the 90sec in between each set. avg 139 2hr duration of both workouts. Maxed at 171BPM http://puros.ca/Smileys/default/grin.gif

Friday is off day so I hit a couple of the P90X programs...............KenpoX cardio for an hour and AB Ripper X after than which is about 20min Maintained a 135avg HR and topped out at 164 and lost about 2 gallons of sweat http://puros.ca/Smileys/default/smiley.gif

Also been struggling moving plates back and forth so decided to go get some more Iron.............I suppose that is a good thing that I had to buy more iron for working out. Picked up another 140lbs worth of plates.............going to need it next week when I change up my program.

While my weight is up over my alltime low I think I must still be moving off of fat as I have now moved from a 36inch waist to a 34............(was a 44 last December).

An example is when I build a sandwich I eat half. if I go out I generally bring back a dogie bag for me. I've cut way back on my hog intake as i'd planned. That's going real well. I've been praying on that unnatural overdoing it thing, and it's taken care of itself.
I'm drinking very little coffee and tons of water. No soda, diet soda, nothing. An occasional V8 cause I love that stuff.
We got Vocelli's pizza at the hotel last night and I ate more than I wanted. Today, so far so good.
It's so easy to develop bad eating habits and so hard to develop (and stick with) good ones. I haven't been on the scale for awhile, I'll check that in a few days.
This is the first day I've been getting around good cause of my new meds, the exercise will take off the pounds really fast.

Be forewarned, this workout will push you very very very hard. I discovered the same thing. Now I won't even climb on a scale until weigh-in. It seems I am always lighter the day before...

So, I missed checking in last week as I was slightly depressed with my weigh-in. It was only a loss of .2 for the week.

But I guess I made up a little for it this week.

And now, for the rest of the story....

The belt was getting tight, and I knew I was the biggest I'd ever been. I even had to 'up' the pant size.
Turned out, I was 416.2 by a doctor's scale. OUCH! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Surprise/surprised-015.gif

I've reached my first goal, getting below 'the hundred mark.' This equates to 4% loss so far.

My next goal? As the old saying goes; go big, or go home.
I've set my eyes on 10%, and want it by the Holidays.

It's time for another visit to the regular Doc, to discuss Celebrex - and start walking more.

At 235 now from 217.............at my last check in from my trainer I was at 229 and of the 12 lbs of gain 9 of it is lean mass so only 3 lbs of fat gain. Another 5 to 6 lbs and I will switch programs again to fat loss and drop off 10 to 12 lbs of fat.

I went from 1600 Kcal a day of food and tons of cardio and weight training to 3200 to 3500 Kcal a day and solid weight training program.

The key for me is to put enough muscle mass on to be able to live in that 2,500 Kcal range comfortably and just be in maintenance mode. The goal is by Christmas which is one year from my 297lbs and 30% body fat.

Currently sitting at 235 lbs and 17.5% body fat.

It is tough going but I am happy with my results and the bulk is starting to show a bit and hell looking good makes you feel good too.

Well today was my check in day and I have to say I am pretty damn happy.

4 weeks ago I decided to get serious about the mass gain portion of my journey to better fitness, after a little chat from my sponsor. The whole idea is to put on some muscle so that I have a higher BMR and can enjoy life a little more without having to be tied to a ridiculously low level of caloric input. Simply put bigger engine burns more fuel.

So the first step was to drop the fat.......check did that 77lbs of fat lost (some muscle too but can't be helped)

Then was recovery.

Now I started before I went back to my fitness guy but I wasn't eating nearly enough so I only know the 2 points of reference. Total muscle gain and the last for weeks.

So at my last check in I was 228lbs and 18% body fat......representing about 187 lbs of lean mass

Fast forward to today 4 weeks later and I am 243.4lbs and 19.1% body fat.....representing about 197 lbs of lean mass.

I put on 10lbs of muscle and 5.4lbs of fat in 4 weeks, almost a 2 to 1 ratio which is AWESOME http://puros.ca/Smileys/default/smiley.gif I am stoked, I surpassed my own goals and the expectations of my trainer.

The intent now will be to go in 10 and 10's. So now I need to loose 10 lbs of fat while maintaining my lean mass. This is where things get a little slower as I am used to just burning off fit by having a huge caloric deficit with aerobic activity. The problem with that however is that I would lose some of the mass I have gained so it has to be a more structured approach than I am used to (or that my obsessive personality likes to accept)

The end goal is 240 lbs and 12% body fat. Which means putting on 14lbs more muscle and dropping 17 more pounds of fat. The intent is to get this done over the course of the next 4 to 6 months........as things progress goals may change as my trainer says this is a fairly aggressive goal.......but I am gonna giver.

Andy, I keep a squirt water bottle with me all the time. It just becomes habit to drink constantly. It took me a long time to develop the habit, and I really fought it. I look for my water bottle all the time now. As soon as I hit submit I'm going to get one. The only reason I don't have a bottle by me now is because I left it in the car. :)
I seldom buy bottled water, I reuse the bottles I like. I just drink tap water. Saves money.

I re-use a Gatorade 32 oz bottle, as that 'covers' 4 - 8 oz glasses. I should be having two of thse a day, plus the add of my 30 oz coffee that I drink all morning, giving me more than enough fluids.

Not really the changes are more subtle. Given that I was supplementing almost 700kcal a day in protein the change in diet is more subtle than that. I basically cut out 2/3 of my supplement and drop my intake 500 kcal (not as much as you would think given how high my intake was)

The key is to do this more slowly to avoid any cannibalization of the muscle that I have built up so rather than the meteoric weight loss I did to get down to my phase one completion this is a slower drop to ensure the lean mass stays on.

The only changes to exercise is to reintroduce between 10 and 15 minutes of high intensity cardio at the beginning of my weight training which accomplishes two things. First is instant calorie burn so burning of an additional 150 or so Kcal per work out but more importantly it increases the level and duration of EPOC (Exercise Post Oxygen Consumption) so that my metabolic rate is increased more than previously.

It has been an interesting ride and I have learned an enormous amount about how the human metabolism works with regards to weight management........I actually believe for the first time in my life that I will be fit and healthy for the rest of my life.

So far so good though my motivation is still there.

wondering how you guy feel about the "cheat day" theory. Personally i've been only doing one cheat meal a week approximately. The theory if im correct is that your body doesn't want to change, and it's happy the way it is, so after a bit of weight loss, a day or in my case meal of high calories "tricks" the body into thinking things are business as usual and allows one to continue losing weight instead of holding onto it. Since i got serious about this which for me entailed actually stopping eating when i was full, increasing fruits and veggies, whole grains, decreasing red meat while keeping lean proteins up plus other stuff, i've lost about 25 pounds all together, and 7 or 8 since i got serious about it on Nov 2nd. The "cheat day" (again or in my case meal) is totally working for me, and everytime i eat that meal, i drop a lot of weight the day or 2 after it

some info on it http://www.diet-blog.com/08/have_a_day_off_your_diet.php

LooseCard

From my experience, being a life-long dieter, you have to allow yourself periodic indulgences.

Otherwise, you'll (psycologically) tire of the diet, and let go anyway.

A cheat-day or cheat-meal is actually better off for you.

I too have upped the fruits and veggies, whole grains, and such. I've recently noticed that I am not a 'fruit-full' in my diet, and I haven't been losing steadily.

Starscream

Cheat days are ok, depending how you diet, Myles. If you follow a diet that allows a cheat day, then it's a good thing. It keeps you from burning out. But also be careful about how you use that cheat day. Don't eat 12,000 calories and expect positive results.

haha, of course! I would actually say that for the first time in my life, i'm doing what i like to think of as a change in lifestyle and overall attitude towards food. Well being obsessive helps........and I am obsessive big time.

The motivation comes in two parts for me. The first is my kids, I have battled poor nutrition combined with lack of exercise since my youth. I attribute that partly to poor role models in my parents. So I have made a conscious effort to change that so I am doing my damnedest to be the role model my children should have. (ok so cigars and booze might be in there life too but it is all about balance :) )

The second is that if you stick with a program and commit to it, well it works and the results are both visual and internal. I look waaaay better, hell my wife actually warned me to be good when I went to the Ozzy concert this week and when I laughed her off she told me she wasn't kidding that I have never looked this good in my life. As for the fit side of things, everything is easier.............shovelling the driveway, carrying the groceries, splitting and stacking wood, putting my winter tires on my truck, mountain bike riding, carrying tired children to bed (even my 10 year old), hell I get treated different in clothing stores, restaurants etc, I never thought I was discriminated against due to my size but I think in hindsight that there is a significant difference in how I am treated.

Ok ok I ran on a bit but you get my point I think.

Oh and as for my loss phase it has been just under 3 weeks and I am down 8 lbs to 234lbs.........hoping that is all fat, will know after next week when I see my fitness therapist.

Keep at it gents, it has been almost a year for me and the transformation is pretty remarkable, physically and mentally.

I'm on a plan to lose weight and gain muscle. I'm sure you've all heard of it, and it gets miraculous results in 90 days. The highest I weighed in at was 190, and I hope to break the 160s... maybe after a couple cycles

I started my first day of p90x today, and darn it, it is hard! The workouts aren't as strenuous as one would think, but the diet you're supposed to follow is overwhelming! I wasn't used to getting 2800 calories in so much food. I'm literally stuffed, and I still have one more snack and dinner (the biggest meal) to go. The food is all really high quality, and the calorie to nutrient ratio is ridiculous. I used to eat very poorly, and hopefully if I keep this up for the next 89 days, I'll be in MUCH better shape than I am in now.

I'm still hanging in around 223. That seems to be where I've been for months now. I did get down to 218 for a minute. My health has been pretty decent and I've been a lot more active and eating less, putting on more muscle and getting my strength back.
I tried going to the gym awhile back and it aggravated my Isaac's something awful, so we put that on stop until I see my neurologist again. I see him Monday. Hopefully my tests all came back and I'll be able to get something going.

Wow I only looked at a few pages of this but I would just like to congratulate everyone on their weight loss. I know it is not easy. At the end of my sophomore year of high school I weighed 238 lbs. Now, a junior in college, I weigh 152 lbs. I've maintained this weight for a few months now seeing as I have no desire to lose any more weight but I know how hard it was to lose and keep off the weight at the ages of 16-20 so I can only imagine how much harder it is for people in their 30's, 40's, 50's etc... So congratulations to everyone and keep up the good work. I know you all can reach your goals

Haha no not at all. Age is just a number. You're only as old as you feel. I was just saying that it is harder to do it at an older age because my dad just started going back to the gym and when we compare results he always reminds me that it's easier for me than for him.

You are right. I lost weight in my early 20s very quickly. Now that I'm 31, it's a much slower process. My biggest problem now is being too lazy to exercise.

Andy, you can do this bro, at 31, you still have a lot of fight and energy in there dying to come out. I was 33 and sick and tired of being sick and tired. Not taking my shirt off at the beach when my friends were hanging out in the water, etc. Not going in the pool with the kids if someone was around with a camera, having to squeeze into clothes whose fit made me embarassed to wear them. How much is enough? How far does one have to go before making that change. The only thing I can say to you is lose the "It's going to be tough this week because.................." the holidays, being by a restaurant, wifes baking a cake, etc. You set yourself up for failure when you put in your mind how tough it will be because when you fail as a result it's like "Yeah I knew it would be tough, oh well". Start saying, "Regardless how tough this is, I'm still sticking to my guns because it's THAT important" And just do it bro. You can do it!!!!!!!!

So far, so good for my new year's resolution...no fried/greasy foods and no regular sodas yet. I must say...when you have a very bad habit of picking up something like McD's, BK, Taco Bell, etc, to some degree of regularity and you drive by those places and get nothing, it's torture. In the past I've gone lengthy periods without fast food and it's eye opening how much you really don't miss it when you eliminate it because you feel better.

I'm bringing Lean Cuisines and various snacks to school and eating much more fresh fruit/veggies. First 2 weeks down 6.4 lbs and I wouldn't say I've put a big reduction in volume of food eaten just yet.

oneof the things that i wanted to proof to myself was that i could run 15 km. i ran a half marathon. my strength is also at a high point(245lbs bench press...)
my goal this year is to get under 100kg by the end of june and under 90 at the end of the year.

219.4 this morning. I had to switch to a high carb, low potassium diet because of my health. It's really caused me to gain an aversion to fatty foods, for some reason. I haven't had any desire for steak, and mt daily grease intake has dropped severely.
I had been up to around 227 after hovering around 223 for a long time.
Now that the weather is getting nicer, I'll be more active. That'll make losing the weight a lot easier.
I'd simply like to get back down to 200 where I was. If I can get there and stay there by learning how to sustain it, I'll be happy. Ultimately I'd like to get down to 185, but last time the pressure to go from 200 to 185 was a real b1tch. I got there for a minute, then blew up.

216.6 today. I'm still stuck in a downward spiral. It's because we're working on a low-potassium diet for me. I'm afraid to eat anything, so I don't eat much of anything except high carb stuff like rice and noodles. I'm starting to learn what I can eat, so my "food I can eat" umbrella should start getting bigger. I don't think it'll ever get as big as "the food I can't eat", but it's an improvement. :)

My wife and I started the "The food Lovers Fat Loss System" it is a way of life not a diet. What it does is it resets your metabolism to burn fat instead of storing it buy eating three meals a day which includes one protein, one fast carb, and one slow carb, and a snack in between you need to eat every two to three hours. So far it has done wonders for us. We have been on it for 16 days and can already feel a difference. My wife is diabetic and her average sugar level was 190 to 210 while on insulin, now it is running in the 90s. We will get to weigh on 4/3 21 days after starting. I was 180.

This is not good obviously however I am confident if I eat better and get out of the house at night I can remove this in a week.

Yes that is the best part (good blood sugar), and allot of people are skeptical of it, but it just brings us back to the original food triangle and how to use it. A nutritionist explain it as your metabolism is a furnace and if you dont fuel it, it will go out. To me it is worth a try.
And for some dumb reason my cigar is blowing up and wanting to split

Congrats Andy. I've been somewhat following this thread, more of late as I'm trying to lose more weight myself. About 2.5 years ago I was around 295-300lbs. After my Mom passed, I made a decision to make some lifestyle changes. Cut way back on processed foods, increase fruits/veggies, less protein. Over the course of two years, I dropped ~30lbs and was maintaining right around the 265-270 mark. Then two weeks ago i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My A1C test came back at 249. Ouch! Since then I've cut back on the carbs, increased my veggie intake even more and bumped up my protein a bit. Big thing was finally getting off my butt and start walking. I do 2-2.5 miles 5 days a week. Last week I was down to 260.6 (God i wanted into the 250's), and I know I've lost a bit more since then. With the meds and the diet change, my blood sugar's around 120 now. I"m hoping to get down to 225lbs and hopefully off the meds.

Keep up the good work. :tu

My wife goes to the gym almost every day. She does cardio every day, which you can actually do every other day. Then you do your upper body one day, then lowers the next. Or you can do your entire body on the weights one day, cardio the next.
Cardio burns the fat and builds enduranace while the weights build muscle. She asked me to tell you that free weights are far better for you than the machines.
Now, so far as cardio goes, she does the arc trainer (which is very close to the elliptical, and most gyms have one or the other or both) for 40 minutes. That's it. You could also walk the treadmill for 30-40 minutes, with intervals of high intensity/low intensity.
So far as the weights go, there are generally signs posted everywhere. Usually you can find a sign where you can get info to hire a trainer. That's not real necessary. The trainers at the gym will help. They'll go through all the machines with you and usually they'll give you a schedule/circuit to do that targets different areas.
If you just show up every day at the same time, you'll get used to faces and then simply ask someone who looks like they know what they're doing. Don't be afraid, they'll be glad to help, just catch them in between sets and be polite not to interrupt their workout. You may not get anything done that day, but they'll teach you, slow but sure. Then you can burn the rest of your time on the cardio machines.

There's a thread here that the muscleheads have, I thinking it's called "Pumping Your Buddy with Zemekone and Icehog3" or something like that. I'm sure someone can link it up if you can't find it. You can ask questions there, and the guys here that lift will help.

Okay, I think I've burned out my fingers.

It doesnt really matter as long as you consistently replicate the same situation (ie morning/ evening, w/ or w/out clothes). All you are looking for is an apples to apples type comparison.

Weighing your self every day is counter productive IMHO.

Yea, my plan is to stick to a once a week weigh in. Right now I'm just checking this new scale to see how it performs and if there's a lot of flucuation.

My plan calls for once a week. But I agree that everyday weigh-ins are counterproductive.

I weigh myself every morning at the same time when I wake up, before eating or drinking, before a shower and au natural. Sticking at 197. Been a year at this point since I dropped from 250. I should work out a little more but my eating habits are pretty darn good at this point.

the average bathroom scale does not account for muscle. Since there's no way to determine how much muscle weight you've gained (and muscle weighs more than fat), that bathroom scale is just not accurate.

Seeing a lower number on a scale may prompt a subconscious reward. It is not uncommon for people to indulge in an extra fry or dessert thanks to slight weight loss. Of course, this only leads to weight gain, and then you will be right back where you started.
Disappointment may begin to set in, and this can lead to a lack of motivation. What happens when you've been following the best weight loss program, you are on track for healthy weight loss, and your scale doesn't reflect all of this hard work? Chances are that you'll become slightly depressed, and you'll quickly lose all weight loss inspiration. It takes a long time to lose a significant amount of weight, so don't worry if you aren't seeing results right away.
Weight fluctuates according to the time of day. If you weigh yourself in the morning, and then weigh yourself the next evening, you'll find that the two numbers are drastically different. This is due to the fact that a person's weight can fluctuate up to three pounds every day.

Weighing yourself obsessively can lead to an eating disorder. Most anorexics and bulimics are infatuated with weight. In fact, some people who have never had an eating disorder may become so obsessed with the numbers on a scale that this obsession leads to an eating disorder.

I pretty much avoid the scale unless I'm "trending". That's to say, if I start a plan, I'll watch to see if it's working, thencontinue said plan based on the results.
If I've slipped, stopped purposely, or changed meds, I watch my weight daily to make sure I'm getting enough food and water.
For instance, I just started a new med a few days ago. I should be watching to make sure I don't get dehydrated, but I'm not because I got the flu or strep or something. I'm just making sure I drink lots, which is what I have to do anyways. When I straighten out, I'll watch the trend again and then stop watching the scale.
Oddly, I know I'm really doing well when I'm NOT watching the scale.

215.6. That's the lowest yet, and i otta admit, I'm super pleased. I'm very much looking forward to 200, and anything beyond that is gravy.

216.2 this morning, 218.6 right now, all fed and hydrated.
I haven't seen 216 for 10 years.
I'd be even better, but I had a date for lunch and ate a crab cake and 5 glasses of lemon water. Ate all the green stuff, too. It was at Ruby Tuesday's, it was good, too. :tu
The date went real well, too. A chick my age. Too smart and good looking though. She's got way too much sense to get mixed up with me. :tu
Member this, Andy? It appears that crab cakes are the way to a woman's heart, cause I married this date. Turns out she weren't that smart after all. :r :r
I'm skinnier right now than I was then, which is great. Last time I proved it could come off, this time is for proving it can stay off.
I'm thinking at that point I had lost 35 pounds and before it was all over, I lost another 30. I'm gonna go check, I might not have gotten past 200.

Since I've changed my diet a couple weeks ago, cutting back on the carbs, I'm finding I actually eating less now overall. I"m about 1800 cal/day, per the app I"m using on my phone to log my meals. Weird thing is I"m not that hungry. It's almost as if the overload of carbs kept fueling the hunger to eat more. Also what's helped is portioning everything out. For lunch today, I was out looking at property so I had to stop somewhere to get a bite. A 6" turkey/ham on flatbread from Subway was enough to fill me up. That would've never happened before.

I found that eating fruit in the morning (banana) and again for lunch fills me up for most of the day. Controlling hunger is the key, and it looks like you're on track.:tu

That's what I've been doing too, and yes, it helps fill me up.

Carb master on the Itunes store. $2.99 I believe. The food database is quite large, plus they have a lot of restaurant info too. You can also log your water intake, activity level, and blood glucose levels.

Not official, but down to 246 today. I bought NFL Training Camp for the Wii (part of the EA Sports Active brand). It's fun as crap but will kick your @$$ if you're not used to playing it.
