minus two this week. Prolly not realistic to be under 300 by the SH, but I'll be damn close. As long as I keep losing, I'm happy. Major goal is 250 by next April. Very doable methinks, even with the Holidays and mama's cookies aplenty!

It's amazing how much of a workout ping pong can be. I'm beat and dripping wet after a few hours of hitting that little ball!

Congrats Hugh and Jeff :tu

Walked by a mirror today and noticed a real difference in my love handles.
I just get sexier by the day! :D

Weigh in on Sunday, been real good this week, and hoping to get some walking in tomorrow.
I'm getting to the point where I'm looking forward to my weigh in, instead of dreading it! :tu

193.8 this morning. I was playing with my diet, trying to see how much potassium I can take. I played myself right into "could barely move last night" and I spent most of the day laid up. :D
It's back to cereal, noodles and rice for old Dad here. I actually started yesterday morning, but it didn't spare me from the nonsense that comes from not being vigilant. Today I feel like a washing machine stuck on spin cycle that fell off the back of a truck, and that's a huge improvement. :tu

Congrats Hugh, Jeff, Dom and Scott. Lots of good news going around it seems.

One thing I've noticed for myself as I'm progressing down this path, is that I'm breaking my addiction to food. I"m still a foodie at heart, but I"m not constantly thinking about it like I used to. That's made it easier to go from meal to meal without having huge cravings and being able to deal with a bit of a hungry feeling. It's not a natural reaction now to get a snack.

Official weigh in tomorrow morning. I hope the success I've had so far this week carries over one more day.

I noticed today how much better my scrubs are fitting me. Before the diet, my large pants were kinda tight and it was all I could do get my XL top on. Now there's a good bit more room.

I'm going to start wearing my 36's when I get down to 210. :)

A few ounces is meaningless. Get a haircut, you'll drop those- breathe different, you'll lose those ounces. Unless you have a $1000 scale, ounces are meaningless. I round up or down. Even placing the scale in a slightly different location can change your weight. That is why realistically you should weight yourself once a week, same time, wearing same clothing(or none) in same location. Daily or hourly weighing proves nothing other than a "too much time on my hands" syndrome. My :2

For me, daily pre-workout weigh-ins are incentive. A good weigh-in motivates me to continue that trend. A bad one motivates me to work that much harder. Also, I can tailor my workout accordingly.

Have been worried about my knee but am back to a point where I feel good after bicycle. Have upped it to 2 sessions of 30 minutes a day and feel great. Concerned about a 2 week trip out west, hope I can find a stationary bike at hotel if not will definately be walking to keep an hour of cardio.

Jogged the furthest I've ever done today, 2.5 miles. Just under 11 min/mile, about 5.5mph. Not the fastest of times, but I'm really just starting out for anything over a mile. Right now I'm more concerned with hitting the 3.1 mile mark (5k) to get in shape for my run in October. Need to look into a water bottle holder. Seems the 20min mark is my achilles heel and I start to get a bit dehydrated. Good thing I picked a route with ample tree coverage. The shade made the last bit bearable.

To top it off, I did a few hours of yard work. I think I need to plan out my meals better on days where I'm really pushing myself. Had the eery feeling of passing out when I'd stand up again. Dont' know if not eating enough it throwing off my BP. I saw stars a few times, but didn't have the world go dark like it did earlier this year. I'll be talking to the doc about it when I see him soon for my 3 month checkup.

That happens when I get too far from food. If I don't eat in the morning, which I never do, and get around noon or later and I'm working, I get that faint, stars, pass outty thing. I go in, eat a little bowl of cereal, and it goes away immediately.
Same thing happens to Lisa. We say "it's the sugar getting low". We have no clue that's what it really is, but a little bit of food clears it up in minutes. It usually happens to her at the gym, so she has a protein bar or something there. If she's home, she usually has a little cracker and cheese plate for her snack.

198 this morning. Touched 197 last week. Weekends are hard. Thinking this is the week that I finally get to 195... however briefly.

Doubled my cardio (Ride the Airdyne in the AM now as well) mid last week to try for the final push to 195.

Pigged out last night ... probably 2500+ calories for the day but they were good ones, fruit and veggies. Body said it needed it.. I need to stop listening to it. :)

- 62 lbs since April 5th. Trying to make it 65 by Friday. We will see.

Jeff (Kreth) mentioned he was researching workout info and saw a lot of people talk about a simple chocolate milk drink for your post workout supplement. Just skim milk and chocolate mix. I happened to talk to two coworkers today about it, they both work out. They both said it definitely does help. You get a nice dose of protein and carbs to help replenish the muscles you just worked out. I made one up today and actually had it before my workout. I wanted to get the mix right. I used 8oz skim milk, 1 tsp Hersey's Special Dark cocoa and a pack of Splenda. Put in a container you can shake to mix and drink. Not sure if that was it, or my dinner before the workout, but I had a lot more energy today and increased the weight for my workout and was able to do more. Could've been physcological. Who knows but I"m going to continue to do it. I didn't have one after the workout as I didn't want the extra carbs. But now that I have the mix right, i'll be drinking them afterwards.

I also ordered some Protein Powder and Creatine too. Been reading a lot about them and the benefits. Figured I'd give it a shot. The brand of creatine I got isn't supposed to give you the normal "creatine bloat". If it helps with my recovery I'll take adding on a couple extra pounds.

There ya go, my man. I always shut that stuff off when I did the low carb. I think my ex-bil told me about it. I drank tons of half-caff coffee and caffiene-free diet pepsi, and still cut that out. I started right back up later, then quit diet pop altogether. I haven't had coffee in days, and really couldn't be considered a coffee drinker for the last couple years, I suppose.

Had my first post workout chocolate milk shake today. Monitored my blood glucose, before, after and 1 hour after. It actually went up after working out which leads me to believe I need to do a pre-workout supplement of some sort. This should help to fuel my body and not burn up all my glucose stores. An hour later, it was back down in normal levels. Tomorrow the protein and creatine arrives, so I'll get a chance to try that. Plus it's weights day.

Also got a package in the mail today of some running shorts. Those should help with my goal of training for the 5k in October. My regular cotton athletic shorts weren't cutting it anymore.

Nothing here Myles, but I guess like all lifestyles, there's going to be people that can/can't do it. I have no doubts that anyone can live a successful life doing low carb, it's just having the fortitude to stick with it. Problem is our society is too centered around carbs for our main source of food. Corn is cheap comparatively to meat and with the surplus we have, they have to keep finding ways to make things out of it. So the temptation is always there to eat carbs.

It takes two to argue, bro. If he doesn't want to do Atkins, he sure doesn't need to, right? I know that's not the crux of the argument, but it still falls under "live and let live", "smoke what you like...".
As long as it works for you and you remain wholly healthy, I'd not waste the time to argue with him. Ask him how the wife and kids and his mama are doing, that's far more interesting. Plus you're going to do what you want with your life anyways, as it should be. :tu

I put in a heck of a bunch of eating time on this vacation in order to push myself up to 202. It kinda gave me pause, and made me realize how often/how much time I had to have been spending in order to keep my weight up at 250.

Wow, it's been a while since I checked in here and it shows. I've basically done nothing for the past three weeks and am up about 6 pounds. I start back to work in a week, so I need to get my butt in gear for it. Gonna get in a workout today for sure. I have let myself go for a bit and have let myself down, but vacation is almost over. Time to get motivated.

Food cravings are a thing of the past for me, which I'm surprised about.
Well, except for that whole ice cream thing a week or so back :r

Way to go! My way of beating the dessert cravings is to freeze peeled banannas and chuck them in the blender with a little vanilla, some soymilk, some water, a tiny bit of cocoa powder + cinnamon and blend to a milkshake like consistency. Often I will chuck in some pineapple, misc fruit, or berries. I picked up some greek yogurt the other day, I think I will incorporate some this weekend.

I've been doing something similar for breakfast the last couple of days. 1 cup skim milk, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, creatine, 4 oz cottage cheese, two teaspoons ground flax seed, one banana, and a handful of ice cubes. Blend until smooth. Makes a filling shake with loads of protein, fiber and good fats. I did a scoop of peanut butter one day too.

I've been a slacker the past couple of weeks. Pressures of the summer semester coming to an end along with my maternity final have resulted in my falling off the wagon just a little bit.

Anyway, I called my old LA Fitness today and I'm going to rejoin. I'll get my same rate of $25/month which is for any location. I'm going to hit the spinning classes 5 times/week along with a couple of boot camp conditioning classes. Based upon my prior experience in the spinning classes, I should be burning at least 5,000 calories/week.

Ok, I'm back on track now. I weighed in at 220.0 this morning, which I knew would be happen the way I binged the past 2-3 weeks. That's expected and should come back off relatively quickly I'm hoping.

I signed back up at LA Fitness this morning to begin my spinning classes and really looking forward to that 4-5 times/week. I also saw my new doctor this morning and he prescribed Adipex to assist with the appetite suppression. I explained that I have some really bad periods of binging and I'm hoping this will curb my appetite a lot. I took my first pill around 10:30 am and all I've had up to this point was my coffee this morning. Still not hungry at all. :tu

I was up to 213.6 this past Saturday, so up almost 2lbs. However, (finding the silver lining) my body fat percentage dropped again and my hydration percentage was up. So that means I'm gaining muscle.

As a bonus, I broke down and went clothes shopping, again (3rd time in the last 6 months). Found out I comfortably fit in size 38 pants. I haven't had a waist size starting with a 3 in probably 20 years. Pumped me up so much I ran 2.1 miles, then came home and did a killer weight workout. Then did 3.2 miles run yesterday. Down to 210.4 this morning.

Finished my first spinning class in a year at LA Fitness today. I quit when I joined a YMCA that was closer a year ago and was just awful-the bikes were horrible and group of chatty cathy women in the class who talked/gossiped the entire class really kept you from getting a decent workout as it was hard to even break a sweat in that class (hence I gave up on it after 2 classes).

A year later, I came back and put in 45 minutes of spinning to the tune of 840 calories in 45 minutes. Not too shabby. All I've had for food intake as of 7:30pm tonight is a big bake potato w/ spray butter/light sour cream and coffee. :tu

And for the good news. 210.0 this morning!!!! I thought for sure I'd gone up as I didn't get my normal workouts in being on the road. I guess all the walking around the 100F+ plant all week helped sweat it off.

I traditionally only do my weight just on weigh-in day, which is tomorrow. I've felt like I've had a good week-4 good spinning classes this week and I've probably been stricter on my points intake this week and not snacking as much late night. As long as I hold today and don't do anything as a negative, I'll be down 5+ for the week.

The Adipex is really helping curb the appetite so I don't have the huge appetite that I've always had in the past. Granted, I am also burning 4000-5000 calories just in spinning classes alone plus maintaining my weight watchers points, but I think it's helping me from the binging aspect.

Just a quick check in. I'm embarrassed that my name is on the title of this thread after seeing all the progress that you all have made. I've committed myself to working out this week, and eating somewhat right. I've lost a pound last week, and hope to lose more this week. It's been one year since I started the WW system online, and I'm still down 29 lbs from where I was last year, but it doesn't feel enough. The summer off with no work made me lazy. The past two weeks I've been getting back into a routine and I hope by next week to post in here some progress made. Congrats to all who have been succsessful and hardcore in here. Keep up the good work, even if i haven't been a good role model. I hope this thread inspires enough of us and keeps on to hit 7,000 posts, so we can start up Losing Weight Part II and take my username off of the thread. I'm happy that I've lost almost 30lbs in a year (which isn't bad, but isn't dedicated), but I'd hoped at this point that I'd been down a lot more. If I was as dedicated as some in this thread, then I'd be at 200 right now.

I also did a bit of lifting Friday since I was too late for class. I'm only going to work on arms, chest, shoulders, and back. I'll probably try to lift one area each day to make that a regular part of my routine after I'm done spinning.

I only made it to spinning 3 times and two of them were with bad instructors. I wear a heart rate monitor that determines average heart rate, max heart rate, calories, etc and with my "good" instructor, I'll burn 1000+ calories in an hour and exceed my "max" heart rate. (down to 202.8)...no diet...just a lifestyle change as starscream talked about in his opening post...my diabetes was out of control, my blood pressure was out of control, and my cholesterol was out of control...now my numbers are returning to normal...I've read several books on changing how you eat...Dr. Dean Ornish touts a vegetarian food regime to reverse heart disease...Dr. Neal Barnard touts veganism to reverse diabetes...and Dr. Daniel Amen is pushing weight loss by vegetarian/veganism as a way to reverse the brain damage done by being overweight (and it's considerable)...all these hot shot docs are saying the same things...there is an epidemic of obesity and and epidemic of type II diabetes in the US and it's being caused by our food processing industries...they're as bad as the cigarette makers...they put tons of fat and sugar in foods to addict you and keep you buying their products...to save money and get more profit out of your pocket they've started using a poison to sweeten things because its cheaper than sugar...your body has no mechanism to metabolize high fructose corn syrup so it just jams it into fat cells...and the artificial sweeters are all mostly chemicals that are harmful to your health and just keep you craving sweet stuff...

I stopped eating sugar...I stopped eating white bread and white rice...they're just straight glucose and zing goes your blood sugaer...we eat only whole grain breads and whole wheat pasta and brown rice...so my new routine is no sugar...also low-sodium as they use that to get you coming back too by oversalting everything you buy...and here's the clincher...they were right about the vegetarian/vegan thing...I eat very little in the way of animal fats anymore and I'm feeling tons better...you can actually feel yourself getting healthier...and, the weight loss happens by itself...I haven't been dieting...I eat until I'm full...I eat what I want in these four major food groups...whole grains, legumes (beans), vegetables, and fruit...since I got off the sugar I have no cravings and my appetite is less because sugar causes cravings and increases your appetite...I'm satisfied with what I'm eating and not always looking for something else, and I don't miss the meat...oddly enough I thought I would...I still have a little cheese and eggs but in moderation...once in a while I'll have chicken or fish...and some of the vegetarian faux meats are fanstastic...after you get used to them you don't know the difference...20 pounds, four months...no diet...just eating the way we're supposed to be eating...evolution developed our bodies a certain way and our teeth are the biggest indicator...we're not omnivores or carnivores...we don't have the teeth for it...the perfect food regime for a healthy human body is whole grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruit...it really works...MY BMI has dropped from 35 to 31 and I've lost several inches on my waist with no exercise...the docs are right...you are what you eat...you ever see a fat vegetarian or vegan?

Happily, getting on the scale today showed no increase from two weeks ago when I went on vaca. So, altho not a loss, I ate pretty well down in ole Virginny, and I'm happy I don't hafta re-lose a lot of lbs. Onwards and downwards!

I'm still hovering around the 202-204 mark. Been on the road a lot for work, but getting some workouts in, mostly running on the treadmill. Probably not a bad thing to plateau a bit since I was on a pretty good tear losing. My belt though is going down notches, so I"m happy with that. Plus Im putting on some muscle, which is a good thing.

Down to 203.2 this morning. Sadly, I feel like I ate a lot Fri/Sat/Sun and was still down 2.6 for the week. My scrub pants may need shortened again before too long. I'm really hoping to crack the 200 mark by Monday with a big week of spinning/treadmill work ahead of me.

I've dropped off the map, but I have to get back on now or I'll be 500 lbs come Spring. I'm not far from doing what I'm supposed to be doing, I just need to avoid the junk food. I'll get back to that today and keep moving ahead in the right direction.
It shouldn't be tough, I'm feeling pretty good since I quit one of my meds, and I'm doing much better. Things are definately looking up.

I started off on 08/28 at 256. The next time I get weighed is on October 6 at my doctors office. I will be curious to see how much I weigh then. My shorts are all falling off now.

I got weighed at the doctors office today. After 40 days I am down to 230 pounds or a loss of 26 pounds. 60 more to go.

It's sad...I'm already plotting my new year's day food intake after hitting my goal. I started off the year with the resolution to not eat deep fried foods and regular soft drinks. Here it is, 9+ months later and I've stuck to it. It's been tough and I've white knuckled it a few times driving by a couple of places a few times. Imagine the torture of putting fries to your lips to test the temp before giving to your 4 year old son to make sure they're not too hot and pass them off.

Only problem is that inducing a number of fried foods in a single day will probably make me feel lousy.

How much are you down total? I put a pretty lofty goal of 86 pounds or down to 170. So I have quite a ways to go. I was about to pick up a scale at Costco that looked pretty nice but I decided it was better not to look to often. Maybe when I get down to 200 I will be ready to buy it!

I started three years ago somewhere in the 295-300 range. I never set foot on a scale except the couple times a year at the doctors. Heaviest I ever saw was 306. The first 2 years or so I lost about 30lbs by just changing my diet. It's the last 7-8 months I've dropped the bulk of it.

I like the scale I got at Target. Tanita brand. It has the biometric sensors to tell your body fat and hydration percentages. Seems pretty accurate as it's on target with the scale at the doctors.

I was bummed stepping on the scale this morning....202.8, a whopping loss of 0.4 lbs.

Last week, I did 7.5 hours of time between spinning, treadmill, and elliptical for a total of 6600 calories according to my heart rate monitor. I still wasn't very strict diet-wise, but didn't think it was any worse than the previous week when I did a lot better than 0.4 lbs.

Back at it again this week and everything I eat is going into the WW app and I'm cutting out all of the excess this week. Gotta break the 200 lb mark this week.

I was burning 1500 calories a day at the gym and not losing any weight at all. I would celebrate afterwards with the highest caloric beer I could find every night.

I understand that-I did follow WW with the exception of a little splurge here and there. Given I was down 2.8 or so the week prior with similar eating habits overall and I burned more calories this week, I was expecting to be a lot closer to the previous loss than what the scale reflected.

With WW, I have a daily point total, a flexible amount for the week, and then I earn extra points for working out. More times than not, I stay within my daily point totals without even using the flexible and activity points. I just know I didn't go over that much.

201.8...lost a freaking pound. I think I was still pretty loaded with water as I drank water pretty consistently all afternoon/evening though because I had a bit of a sore throat. (Just for grins, I stepped on the scale Wednesday morning last week and I was at 198). Still a bit frustrated the past 2 weeks have been such a stall though, especially when I'm burning through so many calories in spinning class.

My goal for the week is not to go over my points allowance any days without the points I'm given for the workouts. My goal for the week is 9000 calories burned.

I know how to lose weight as I lost 63 lbs in 21 weeks about 9 years ago. I then got a nagging case of plantar fasciitis and proceeded to gain it all back over the course of 3-4 years.

To test my theory of retaining excess water this morning, I got on the scales a few minutes ago and weighed in at 197.4, a difference of 4.4 lbs from about 10 hours ago. Granted, I did my workout this morning, but I've also taken in ~ 1.5L of water as well, so it's not like I'm dehydrated.

You may need to change up your routine. It sounds like you have plateaued. Been there and done that tons of times. Are you mixing in any strength training? HIIT training? Also, you CAN get to a point where if you are burning too much and not taking in enough, your body will start panicking and you can actually gain some weight.

I'm back on my proper diet and what's even better is that Lisa is right on board with me. She doesn't need to lose weight at all, but wants to eat healthier.
My "eat healthy" plan has more or less been an avoidance thing. I stay away from meat as much as possible and watch potassium like a hawk because of my condition. That doesn't leave much I can eat except grains and whole food, plant based stuff.
Fortunately I can tolerate a little of anything, I just can't eat steak 3 times a day and I can't eat chicken at all, it totally screws me up. The potassium in meat breaks down slower and keeps me screwed up longer than the potassium in fruit and vegiees and seafood. Except shrimp. Shrimp is like the chicken of the sea to me.
I haven't been on the scale, but I'm still hanging around 200. That should be dropping quickly as I'm feeling a lot better since I had my meds adjusted, and I'm putting in a good 12 hours a day on my feet now. That's freakin awesome. Thank You, Jesus. :tu

I've also resumed drinking tons of water. Since midnight last night I've put down half a gallon. I'm going for a refill right now. :D

Howdy everyone! I know I'm blessed as far as weight goes, but like most people in the early 40's, metabolism has certainly slowed over the years. Early this spring I ended up in the hospital overnight for an AFib episode. I have none of the normal conditions that are seen as a trigger for AFib episodes. The doctors were at a lost for what triggered it, but they did say that is normal for someone with no pre existing conditions. Although they told me that I was clear to resume whatever exercise programs that I wanted, the mental affects of that episode stuck with me for a long time.
I had never been hospitalized in my life and when it comes to my heart, that was some scary sh1t for me!
I signed back up with a local academy that teaches Tae Kwon Do, I love it and the flexibility it provides as well as the workout is great for me. I've been doing that for about 2 years and my goal is to get my black belt, about another year and I should be at my goal.
My wife has started her weight loss journey and we are completely changing our diets. I started out at 207lbs and in 2 weeks I'm down to 199 without working out, that starts this week. We belong to our community center which is fairly new and is a really great facility with tons of workout equipment. We've been down this road before and always kind of regressed, but with her conditions that the doctors recently informed her of, I think we can make the life changes that we need. Being a good example for our kids is another major driver in this as well.

Next best remedy after cutting back on the carbs, exercise. Did my usual 5 different sets of 15 pushups and 200 crunches. Got into Chicago and decided to get some more in before heading into work. Thinking about training for a mini marathon here in May. The longest distance I've ever run was 6 miles and that was just once. I did an hour on the treadmill yesterday at a whopping 5.12 miles (11m43s pace). I've never been a good runner-even after doing 6 months of army basic training/AIT. I will see if I can find a good plan train for it. My quads are sore as hell after yesterday's run. 199.0 this morning, down 4.6 this week and 35 lbs for the year despite being off my diet more often than not. 24 more until I hit my goal. The real discouraging thing is even at my goal, my BMI is still 26.6 and considered overweight and a size 32 waist at that point. When I get back to taking out a new life insurance policy next summer, a doctor will have to provide a letter to state that I'm not overweight.

Figured since I'm in better shape, I can step it up to the 2nd DVD, workouts 3-4. I guess I"m not in as good of shape as I thought. :D

It's a continuation of the first disc, but all of the cardio routines are tripled, and you do each one back-back-back. One "set" is 3 minutes long, 1 minute of front kicks, 1 minute of high knee blocks and 1 minute of side kicks. No break, repeat two more times. My legs were jello by the end of that. And once you've completed all of it, there's the Ab Ripper 200. 20 reps of 10 different ab crunches. I got about 150 in. Tomorrow is weight day. Should prove interesting.

I'm going to mix things up a bit. I've been very lax on my diet and working out lately and heard about the 17 day diet. I'm going to give that a try and see if it'll help me get over this plateau I've been at. It's largely been a bit of laziness to being strict on my diet. This diet is pretty much summed up with lean meats, lots of good veggies, and 2 servings of probiotics/fruit per day (I'll accomplish this with 6 oz of fat free yogurt and 1 c berries twice/day). They also push getting healthy fats, elimination of real and artificial sugars, and drinking plain coffee or green tea and lots of water.

My diet for day 1 will be:
Breakfast:
2 eggs
6 oz greek fat free yogurt w/ 1 cup mixed berries
1 cup green tea

Snack
6 oz greek fat free yogurt w/ 1 cup mixed berries

Lunch
Large romaine/spinach salad w/ 4.5oz salmon
Includes orange/red pepper, mushrooms, red onion, tomatoes, and olive oil/balsamic vinegar for dressing

Dinner
6 oz salmon
3 cups steamed broccoli

I can do this for 17 days. They claim 10-15 lbs is possible in this period. Hell, if it's recommended by Dr. Phil, it's gotta be good, right?

195.0 this morning.
I've got my low-potassium diet worked out to where I don't make hardly and critical mistakes. My biggie was cereal. Cereal is my go-to when I get hungry. I just discovered it has 3500 mg of potassium per serving, and I have to stay well under 3000 a day if I want to walk and keep the pain to a minimum. I had no idea it's what's been screwing me up.
So I found some organic cereal that tastes like peppered chow mein noodles and it doesn't have any potassium added. It's really not all that bad if I let it soak a bit.
I found I can eat an English muffin with butter and peanut butter and a clementine instead, and that's not bad potassium-wise. I found some other options, too. But no more Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Honey Bunches of Oats for old Dad here. :)

Wow, that must be hard to maintain such a low potassium intake, when like you've found out, it's in so much food.

Don't know what's clicked for me, but I've decided I"m going to keep running outside as much as I can this winter. We'll see once the snow flies, but so far I've been out 4 times this week, with my shortest run at 3.1 miles. Now if I could only get past that 189 mark.

Still stuck around the 190lb mark. 189.0 this morning. Hard to believe after all the running I've been doing. But I'm still seeing improvements in muscle tone, especially the legs. Imagine that. :D

A couple of suggestions: don't worry about weight. Determine what body fat percentage you want to be at instead of weight. Often times as people begin working out they'll build muscle while losing fat and their weight won't change or may even go up a bit. Muscle weighs more than fat. I recommend getting a small hand held electronic body fat monitor and use that instead of the scale. They can be found for as little as $20-$30 and are accurate if used correctly. I would also recommend taking a weekly photo of yourself in a pair of shorts or swim suit. Compare the picture you took this week to one from a couple of weeks ago and I'll bet you notice a difference if you're eating right and exercising. Maybe it's just a little less fat here or a bit more cut there but it'll show that there's progress being made. These are just a couple of techniques personal trainers use to keep their clients motivated and show that sometimes scales do indeed lie.

2 family dinners For Christmas and I stayed true to the 17 day diet. I'm modifying it to a 20 day plan to finish out the year to see what I can accomplish when I step on the scales Jan 1st. I'm rewarding myself for a couple of days and back at it.

I was 192.0 when I stepped on the scales this morning. I figure 7 lbs in 14 days on the new diet is pretty good. Definitely want to be under 190 in January 1st.

That is the shift I'm making now that I've hit my goal weight, or close to it. I'm still seeing improvements in my physique so I'm good with that.

Down to 193.0 this morning. That's after eating everything in sight yesterday and dinner at Red Lobster. I had one of those incessantly hungry days. When I get that, I eat. It's good because most days I hardly eat anything and I have to get carbs in me to move the crap out of my muscles (it's a low-potassium, high carb diet I have to maintain).
The lobster I had last night whipped my ass soundly. I had to get out of bed at 3:00am and eat a muscle relaxer to break up the head to toe spasms. Apparently rock lobster has a crazy amount of potassium. Either that or they spray something on the salad. Eating out is always a wild card because I don't know what they're going to throw on my food.
I'm super sore from the attack last night, but on the positive side I got a full eight hour workout courtesy of muscle spasms. :D

I'm not really doing anything, Bob. I'm just matching my intake to my metabolism.
Yesterday's diet was 3 pieces of Amish Friendship bread for lunch, two cans of Spaghettios for dinner, and a pumpkin pop-tart before bed. That illustrates how "flexible" I am with my diet. :D
I don't normally eat junk all day, or at all, really. It just honestly doesn't matter what I eat as long as the net aggregate is healthy, and I actually levitate towards good food anymore.
The amount of food I stuff in my gob is tiny compared to what it used to be. That was a very difficult habit to break and it's an easy one to get back to. I had to do some serious rewiring and rethinking to make it stick, and I imagine it's still precarious at best.
One great thing that's happened that I never understood is desert. I never ordered coffee and desert at a restaurant because I'd be so stuffed and in pain that it wasn't even an option. Now I fill up fast, stop eating, sit for a bit, wait for Weeze to finish, and usually we share desert and have a cup of coffee. We carry TONS of leftovers home, too. It's cut down on having to cook dinner. :)

Well, I'm jumping on board....the stories I have been reading on the Health and Fitness section of this forum are inspiring.

Heading back to the Caribbean in the Spring and figured that I better get in better beach shape than I was in last year. I weighed in at 222('bout what I was in the picture you are seeing) at the first of the year and would like to get back to 200(weight I was when I graduated HS 24 years ago) by the time I head South. Way I look at it, it is about a pound a year....:r

Though I have always tried to get to the gym in the colder months and I ride bikes a lot in the warmer months, I have never really watched what I eat. That is relative, I like to think I know what I am putting in my body...but portions have never meant a thing to me. I am not one to eat dessert, but I'll eat 3 plate loads of whatever is for dinner, if that makes sense.

Anyway, I have started to count calories and have been religious at the gym.....we'll see where we end up..... It is written down for all to see, with a pic as well.... Here's hoping that I look better than this in 2.5ish months.....:tu

Good luck EJ. It's amazing to see how much you really eat when you start counting calories, huh? I was surprised to say the least.

I finished down 48 for the year and took the past week to eat anything I wanted. I start up P90X on Monday and going to see how well that does for me after 90 days. Then I'll be on to P90X2 after that. :tu

Awesome Duane. I really want to start the P90x program, but I'm so hooked in using my treadmill right now. Just did another 4.6 miles today, over 23 for the week.

I'm actually going to start off with the P90X Lean option right now. I still have weight to lose and I'll have plenty of opportunity to do the more intensive weight training in the P90X classic.

I was up 6 lbs today after a 10 day diet "sabbatical" of sorts, but I'm full water compared to when I wasn't as fully hydrated on New Year's Day. I took measurements of my chest, waist, and biceps so we'll see how many inches I can shed over the next 12 weeks. I'm hoping by the end of the 12 weeks that I can easily be down to my goal weight of 170. Haven't seen that number on the scale in almost 20 years when I got out of the active duty basic training and AIT days.

Been sick since Tuesday/Wednesday..... Still getting sneaking in 30 minutes of cardio all hopped up on DayQuil and eating right. No weights, think my head would explode. Not sure pushing through is helping me recover... Wednesday was the worst, thought I may pass out....:r

I have never worked out when ill....but I have this thing in my head that ANY waiver of commitment, is waiver of commitment...

Obviously I'm not so ill I cannot work out, puking ect...

How's everyone doing this snowy morning? Haven't done an official weigh in for some time. Figured I'd give an update. Drumroll please...

187.4. That's approximately 112lbs I've lost, since I'm guessing I started around the 300lb mark. Had some good news earlier in the week concerning my blood sugar. My hemoglobin A1C this go around was a 4.9. Normal range is 4-6. I haven't taken a pill for either my blood sugar or blood pressure in months as my readings are all in the normal range. Amazing what exercise and good diet can do. :D

191.0.
Not bad considering we just got back from vacation. I had a brief look at 189-something last week but I knew it wouldn't last.
These last few pounds are tough. I'd like to find 185 and stay right around there. Right now I've come down 59 pounds from where I started a couple years ago. I made it to 185 then shot back up to 223. This time it's been slow and steady because I've adjusted what and how I eat. I can't believe I'm not a skeleton because I really don't eat much of anything at all.

Nice job Scott. You and I are right about the same. I was 187.8 this morning and that was after a 8.5 mile run last night. I"m hovering between that 187-192 mark, but can't seem to hit that 185.

I was 185 and ripped when my daughter was born 15 years ago. Spent at least five days a week at the Y. We have a gym membership, I'm going to have to start using it.
I see my back doctor in a week or so, I'm going to ask if she can get me to PT to find some exercises for my back, then when I see my neurologist I'm going to see if he's got any ideas about how I can work out with having to be carried home on a stretcher.
I fear it's going to require more drugs and I'm not real keen on that. But I can't do any repetitive motions without my muscles staying stuck. If I can just get some good work in on my back, that should help dramatically. And it should take a few more pounds off and make me feel better, I figure. :tu
