Yeah I can see it getting better, we'll see. First boss fight sucked immensely, I'll admit I pretty much found a way to negate taking any damage and engage them without them hitting me.

Sniping from the area before. Killed 2/3 without taking a shot, probably the only way I could do it. I find the pick ups are a bit spare when needed and abundant when not.

In games like this (Fallout 3, Borderlands 1, etc) because of that very reason I find myself hoarding everything in the game. It gets bad enough that my virtual homes online could probably go on the Hoarders reality show :p

Yep yep, and I always play a sniper. It seems in most games it's VERY hard not to make a sniper overpowered. Just the general nature of sniping.

Haven't really checked out Darksiders 2 yet, Death just doesn't seem interesting enough. Anyone played that?

Hit L13 Zero yesterday. (My depth perception still isn't back to normal.) Yeah, gun sway is a problem. But in B1 they made a real big deal about accuracy and stability bonuses. Looking through the skill trees I see the same here, so I'm not worried. By the time I was in the 50s with Mordecai I was sniping things I could barely see through a 2.7x.

Like that they finally have an "installation wide" stash, AND that it only holds a few things.

The mission planning was a little poor. I spend a LOT of time running back and forth between multiple zones to tag something and come back.

Did find a gun named "3 Dog" though, so that made me happy :)

All in all the writing is a little crass in more than a couple places; enough for me to shake my head. But we're talking about Anthony Burch here so I suppose we couldn't ask for much in the way of high-brow plotlines.

Enough of the preliminaries. I'm going back in. o/

So far I'm level 9. The game, like most...which is kind of annoying, is gear based big time. I picked up a purple sniper rifle, the name eludes me right now, and I am one shotting 75%+ of the mobs. Grabbed a purple shotgun and the big dudes are no longer a problem.

I really wish they would focus more on skill and story than items and gear. The dialogue is good but not great. Overall so far it's fun and I'll finish it surely but certainly not as epic or hype worthy as it should be or was anticipated to be.

I'll agree on the missions as well. Many things in the game seemed to be done just to extent the game time. Driving through and getting jumped by a bunch of horsecrap mobs you can gun down easily, just takes an extra minute or two. Driving that extra distance, just adds game time. I remember back in the day when you would get 40-80 hours out of a game and it hardly felt unreasonably extended.

I wish there was more witty-crass dialogue. That's what makes the game interesting for me. Certainly not the gameplay which has been done a hundred times by now. That's all games have to offer these days, dialogue and story. Everything else has been done much more than once, so if they don't have that.....they can't offer much. Or maybe I'm just getting burned out on video games. Been a good long ~20 year ride.

Getting back to it.

Yeah. I'm starting to get there myself. Had a bit longer of a run. But even in B2 I'm getting a rapidly rising "yeah, but... I already pumped over 100 (damn near 200) hours into something just like this." There's less different than I'd like really, though maybe it opens up a bit in the 20s like its predecessor.

I think I got real close to 15 last night but I called it. I wish the maps were bigger, going back to old areas really sucks. I hope it picks up soon, so far it just seems like Borderlands....2.

Darksiders 2 is amazing, in theory, for some reason I can't put my finger on it is incredibly easy to put down though. I think it's all the irritating yet easy to figure out puzzles and platforming.

I really just hope it wasn't like the first one. War was a fun character, the story was moderately interesting but the puzzles were BEYOND retarded. I had to youtube half the game, what a waste.

Death....eh I didn't find him as fun to play in the few seconds I played. We'll see.

Still playing Borderlands 2, I really can't see how people pay for these games...it's VERY underwhelming and extremely frustrating. The story is meh.....

They went the other way in darksiders 2, puzzles are so easy you just end up feeling like you can't be bothered and going to make a sandwich or watch TV or something, it is an exercise in tedium. The story so far isn't exactly compelling either. Death is as cool as War was though.

I'm officially giving Borderlands 2 a 5/10....if you paid for it 3/10. Terrible game. What kind of company TRIES to make a product that pisses off it's consumer? Idiots.

Really? I dunno, I thought it was nice they made it a little more difficult than BL1, because even on the second (more difficult) playthrough BL1 was a cakewalk.

Sorry you don't like it :(

It's just every boss has EXACTLY one strategy....if you don't know it you die countless amounts of times, losing all your money, to get the boss down after you learn how.

How linear. I don't like being forced to do everything, no options or alternative tactics.

Also the mechanics of each boss are WAY too similar, avoid the attacks because they can and will one-two shot you. They introduced that "insta-gib" crap years ago and it's been ruining gaming since. We get it, you want us to do things one way...your way.

No game I have ever played involved dying this much because you aren't doing the EXACT thing they want you to.

The storyline is pretty crappy as well.

Disappointing. I'm trying to play it through but if I die a few more times I'll just grab a trainer and they can eat it....I'll play it my way.

What ever happened to options and multiple strategies?

Did gaming companies ever think that MAYBE just MAYBE we want a nice story with pretty simple gameplay? Not every game should entail being constantly challenged by silly mechanics you will eventually get through anyways. The only thing that accomplishes is frustrating you. They do it on purpose sometimes too, like for example you "respawn" just a touch out of the way of where ever you died. Just enough to make you walk an extra minute or two. They are stretching the game time.....

Something tells me at the end of this game there really is only 15-20 hours if that but they stretched it to justify the price tag.

The loot half these bosses drops sucks as well. Got that thresher down and it dropped...nothing. But I died probably 8 times trying to kill it.

/end rant.

DAMMIT!

I wanted to love it so badly. But you've really nailed it. The constructor bot was the worst. I finally figured out that (on the first iteration) the turret that kept spawning behind it was a quick "revive" kill, so I'd just plug away until dying, then beat that thing up for the revive. But that's after a clean dozen deaths.

The storyline is a mess. It's pretty much the General Knoxx storyline.

I'm marginally determined to OP Zero and finish it, with the hope that they'll kick Burch off the writing team in time for the DLCs.

I'm happy to say that, in to L25, Borderlands 2 has done exactly what I hoped. It took that long to grow in to itself. I suppose it's either a function of gearing/skilling up or the early zones just sucking wind. But now I'm good with it.

The amount of stuff I have to sell is just driving me insane. I've maxed out my inventory (27? seems low.) And no matter how much I sell, I've always got too many things I'd like to try, even with a full bank and stash.

I suppose if I was really driven I could create other toons, get them to sanctuary, then use them as packhorses. But I'm just not that motivated.

But then, Dishonored is coming :)

It's alright, I played through the vampires campaign and it was pretty decent. I get the feeling the dawnguard campaign is going to have you do the exact same things as the vampire campaign.

There's a bug where the follower you get nerfs the crap out of your vampire powers when she is a follower. So your new vamp powers seem lousy until you finish the questline.

Overall it's decent but buggy. Falling through the world, NPCs getting stuck in combat. Door not opening when they should to let the bad guys through. So you end up stuck in combat behind a locked door with enemies on the other side. Reload last save fixed the bugs for the most part.

I'm only an hour in to Dishonored though. The 16 hour work day is brutalizing me. I replayed the first mission a couple times trying to get through it without wasting a bunch of guards, but I can't quite get the knack of how I can tell if I'm visible or not when stealthed.

Finished up XCOM yesterday. I had a ton of fun with that game - I've already started a second campaign - but I'm not going to be trying to make it through this one quite as quickly.

I finished on Normal setting and had a blast, so I started a Classic campaign a few weeks ago. For some reason, it's significantly harder than I expected the second time through. And that's even after I feel like I'm playing smarter, especially on the tactical missions. I think the game cheats.

Picked up Endless Space this weekend. Ended up getting sucked in to it for Endless Time, which seems only appropriate I suppose.

I get blindsided by all of those games, (Civ*, etc.) I'm cruising along and all of a sudden my population happiness is at 3% and I encounter a single enemy fleet that's insanely powerful.

The problem of course is that it's only because I've bought everything already :-/

I DID just discover though that Origins has a Command & Conquer collection for download for $25 that's awesome. No more screwing around with Zero Hours CDs.

They got me.

The "grand encore" sale had XCOM. Everybody raves about it, so I pulled the trigger. Downloading now.

Besides, I can only fruitlessly farm The Warrior so many times before just getting bored. Until they raise the level cap in Borderlands 2 I'm backing off. (Though I'll hit next week's DLC, to be sure.)

Mostly yeah. It is...er....WAS a game all about technical combos. The trick was seeing how to combine each attack to get the highest rating.

The story line and ambiance were also pretty cool.

But in this generation they have change the main character, made the ambiance one where even the walls say f*** you (no, seriously, it is written on the walls), and you can get the highest score via pure button mashing.

DEAD :(

The Walking Dead, has anyone played this downloadable game on Xbox Live? This is how games should be made.....lots of choices and very hard choices at that. Very emotional game....I played episode 1 (out of 5) and I'm hooked now.

Mechwarrior Online - good timesink
Dead Space 3 - enjoyed it, I def recommend

Bio Shock infinite is the only game I have thought about buying in a while, but still then I might wait for it to become digital on XBLA. Far cry 3 is already on demand, they're turning them over quicker now. Hopefully this is the trend, I can't wait for the day I can download digital day of the release. Hell I just got Fallout 3 last night for 5$ almost got the first bioshock also for 5$ but knew the new one was coming out, so I held off.

Gotta hop in on this after seeing there was a thread for it!

Unless specified, presume everything I'm playing is for the PS3.

As of late, it's been all about Injustice. Quite possibly one of the best fighting games out there -- absolutely loving that. Both story mode and multiplayer is worth it; a solid investment.

Redbox'ed Bioshock Infinite and spent an overnight beating it. (Well, not overnight, just most of an afternoon, evening, and late night hours.) Liked it, didn't LOVE it.

Still chugging through Kingdoms of Amalur, which satisfies my jones for fantasy games, given that I sold my copy of Skyrim back when Bethesda wasn't going to release DLC for the PS3.

Injustice is essentially the same engine as Mortal Kombat; the story line is sweet in that you're not playing one character all the way through. You switch up, which makes the story more intelligent (although you obviously have to suspend disbelief).

GTA V's preordered already (!) and I just watched the footage from E3 yesterday at work (TV's in the restaurant) of Saints Row 4. Holy cripes. Battlefield also looked sick -- I'm not very good at it, but they demo'ed (live) a 64-person multiplayer match with all players on the stage at once. It was SWEET.

The last "new" game I played was Halo 4. Loved it.

Lately I've gone back to old reliable titles...Just Cause 2 is awesome for just hopping around and wrecking stuff. The dialogue is hilariously cheesy, but the sheer scale of the open environment is amazing.

I also started over on Splinter Cell: Conviction. I've been playing co-op with it for a while and my skills have improved. So I'm trying the campaign on harder settings. Plus it's the last SC game with Ironsides as Sam. :(

Reserved "The Walking Dead" (the first one, not the second game with the guys from the actual show) through Redbox.com (which is a great way to save a crapload of money, IMHO). Played Episode 1 so far, and whereas it's not a fast, action-packed game, it's definitely a cool game to check out. I don't want to say too much as it would ruin the surprise and the gameplay for you -- but I recommend renting it if possible.

Just returned the rental of The Last Of Us, which has been nothing short of fantastic. After my first time renting it, I was cursing it out. Apparently all I needed was to step away for a day and reconsider my plan of attack in one area.

The soundtrack is fantastic, the voice acting excellent, and it's probably the best "capture" of human interaction I've seen in a game -- less creepy than Heavy Rain. I suggest checking it out.

Played D3 on Xbox for about a week, I don't know why but it didn't grab me like it's predecessors, was good for a play through though, decent story for a Diablo game.

GTA 5 is awesome, the special abilities are great additions, the cars are 1000x better than any other GTA game, they look so much like real world cars they might as well have "Ford" or "Chevy" or "Bugatti" stamped on em. It's also a lot more graphic in other areas, so much so that I fully expect GTA 6 to have full on hardcore ****o scenes.

That said, some of the dialogue is stupid, especially in Franklin's early missions, I ended up muting the TV for most of them because I was just tired of hearing it.

I enjoyed the hell out of 2. But I did enough playthroughs early on that when they started spamming DLCs (and there are a LOT of them) I just got bored. The writing in 2 is a bit lackluster; a bit heavy on the beavis and butthead humor.

Nothing beat the DLCs from 1 though.

I'd say wait 'til it goes on sale on Steam for some ridiculous price.

I'm playing through Half-Life 2 (including Episodes 1 & 2) for the first time in a long while. It's really held up well and is still a blast to play. But having spent a bunch of time playing Fallout 3 and Skyrim in the interim, I can't help but feel a bit "confined" by the linearity. It's still such a great game but I'd love to have an expansion pack that gives you the freedom to explore more. Imagine a persistent, open-world game set in and around City 17...:dr :D

So, I had a $10 off coupon that expires today...so I bought Fallout 4 W/a free downloadable copy of Fallout 3 for the low low low price of $32!! :D

It pays to be a Best Buy gamer member.

Recently picked up:

Rise Of The Tomb Raider
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Anyone played GTA: Cunning Stunts yet? Thinking about getting this, so me & the boy can race....even there are curse words, can always just turn the sound down.

Consoles:
PS3
Xbox 360
Wii
PS4
Xbox One S
Wii U

Handheld:
GBA
3DS XL New
PSP
Retroduo that plays SNES games and is portable and awesome!

Currently playing Skyrim Special Edition for XB1 S. Nothing to really add. Looks great upscaled to 4k. One of the greatest games ever made and looks purty as well.

Gears of war 4. Nothing new here. The mechanics are the same, story is good. At this point it's a guilty pleasure that i enjoy.

The console I enjoy the most believe it or not is the Wii U. Just great, fun games. Not everything has to be so complicated story-wise and I do enjoy puzzles but it really is the most underrated console.

I've been on a Zelda kick and finally beating all the old games I never could as a kid.

I started with playing Ocarina of time 3D for the first time ever and it was just a flat out amazing game. One of the best ever made.

Majoras mask 3D is also great but haven't finished it yet

A link between worlds is just a nostalgia bomb which looks and sounds amazing. The music alone is worth the price

Wind waker HD is my favorite on console. i know some hate the sailing but with the added swift sail it makes the game amazing by taking some of the tedious work out of it. It looks amazing as well in 1080p. Since buying it I've played it through 4 times at 100% completion

Twilight Princess HD looks and is amazing but it is much darker than I'm used to. The HD alone makes it work it because it's just so beautiful

Skyward Sword I really tried. I got about halfway through before giving up. The Wiimote just killed it for me and unless they rework it to use with a regular remote i won't try it again otherwise a beautiful game as well

link to the past I don't have to say much. It's one of the greatest games ever made period. if you want a modern update of it just play a link between worlds

Right now I'm playing links awakening on 3DS virtual console and enjoying it like crazy. This is a gem that i completely missed. I highly recommend it

As far as PC gaming goes it's just been a very long time for me. Right now I have a late 2013 iMac with a Nvidia geforce gt 750m so I'm not lighting up the world running bootcamp. I'm hoping that when my health issues are better and back at work that i'll be able to build me a high end gaming PC but for right now financial priorities go to my health.

So, what are you playing right now? What consoles? PC specs? Just curious. :)
