When I acquired this JDSBBP pick a few weeks ago, I didn’t realize it was a Jay West (T8ke) pick until Ben told me. Every pick of his I’ve had (Pinhook, Barrell, Knob Creek etc) has been great. This one is even better than that, just a banger. Hard to believe it’s only 127 proof, it's got a lot of flavor and punch. I kind of lucked into this one.

Good couple of hunting days here, picked up another Little Book Infinite Blend, and 3 new Booker's (24-03, Master Distiller's Blend) at retail

The Reserves is excellent, you should enjoy that too. Keep an eye out for the Little Book Infinite Blend if you can.

I opened the newest Booker's (24-03, Master Distiller's Batch). First pour was excellent, very promising balance of sweet (vanilla, molasses) and savory (peanuts, oak). I'll wait a few weeks to pass a real judgement on this one, but first taste was delicious.

Looks like a great time, ER17 has eluded me. Those early catches of OC were something special, the financials that have come out as part of the divorce sale show a dramatic reduction in their cost of goods last year which lines up with what I've seen happen with the quality. Swapping out the 12+ year barrels with 6-8 year stuff and still sell for $200+ is a great way to make oodles of cash :r
I finally got a chance to try Bookers Reserve and LB Infinity, if I were to buy one it would be the LB, nothing wrong with the Bookers but it didn't blow my socks off. I don't think I'll end up buying either but I'm glad I got a chance to sample them

I've decided I don't like this at all. The Sweet Wheat was ok, but I wasn't a fan of the small batch, bottled in bond or single barrel. The only 1792s I have liked (and loved) are the full proof picks.

Trade for a Bookers Rye, otherwise keep it :dr
Not expecting anything that fun this year, but did manage to snag a Pride of Anderson County rye yesterday (10 year barrel proof Wild Turkey rye). The price was such that I can only afford to keep half, but the first release last year was neck and neck with Bookers Rye when I tried them blind, a lot of others came to the same conclusion. Looking forward to getting that one in :dr

I got an ounce off a friend when he cracked his Booker's and poured half of it in a blind against POAC, Parkers 10yr Rye and THH at the end of last year. It was clear just from the nose that two of these were not like the other two, ultimately I picked Booker's as the top but it could have gone either way. Methinks I'll drink the other half of the sample when this POAC gets in and try it against the first batch as well, probably do Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 1 as the fourth

Had time to stop by Garfield's before work, and it was lucky that I did. They had a case of the new Booker's (24-04, Jimmy's Batch) without a limit, I grabbed 2. They also dropped a couple new single barrel store picks that were no-brainers coming from there. $250 is high for regular Stagg considering it's MSRP is $70. I splurged earlier this year for 3 bottles of store picks at $150 each. I have missed out on the recent Batch 24A and 24B due to conflicting schedules. I honestly can't tell you how many bottles of Stagg I have right now, so no big loss. -(P

Still $200+ near me, if you even see it on the shelf.

Yeah, too much for current Stagg. I'd think about $200 for a few of the older batches (12 comes to mind first).
I opened the 2021 Barrell New Year that I picked up on clearance awhile back. It's the best version I've had.

Regular Bookers is $100 here in MI. The LB Chapter 8 is $169, LB Infinity is $199. Most places will add $10-20 to the regular Bookers, but $60 is crazy. Someone will pay it though.

One of the Bourbon YT'ers I watch (SLB, I think) has it on good authority that MSRP for Booker's is going up to $129. If that's the case, I'll be pretty much done with it. Once the stores add on to that price it'll be the equivalent of getting three bottles of WT Rare Breed. I like Booker's, but not three times as much as Rare Breed. :D

Nice grab on the infinity! Hope to find one as well but seeming unlikely. I did grab a Bookers Reserve on black friday, tough decision between that and OGD 16yr until I looked at the prices and the Bookers was $50 cheaper. Haven't bought any Bookers in years (mostly because they're rarely available out here) but I got to try a sample of this one and really liked it. The bottle will get opened in a future year, stuck it in the back of the cabinet for now

It's only the third bottle I've had, so I'm hoping for good things. For the other two, one was around 108-ish proof, and was a little hot. The other was closer to 120 and was pretty tasty (but unspectacular). I'm hoping that plays out the same with this one.
For $50 it's worth it. $60+, and I'd rather get a Penelope or Still Austin Barrel Proof, or a KC 12.

I hope it improves for you when it opens up, Bob. I still haven't opened one, this weekend I will. I get that note from some Old Forester Barrel Strength picks, and it's usually not good.
Walked through the liquor section at Mariano's Grocery yesterday. They have a 10 year 7 day Knob Creek single barrel pick, and it was $16 off MSRP.
This one is much less oak forward than a lot of the KC picks I've had. I've been holding onto my older picks like a nun holds on to her chastity, so it's good to have an open bottle on the bar.

It’s smooth with caramel up front and a nice bit of oak on the finish. Hopefully OF figures out how to make this a regular release. It’s quite a bit better than the 2024 OF Birthday release.
For price, well, I have never paid less then $150 but I suck at finding deals.

I really enjoyed Frey Ranch Barrel Selection Rye. To me it’s my favorite of the whisky’s and bourbons they sell. I like all of their offerings but the rye just tingles my palate the best.
We did drink them right to left and the Stagg was by far my favorite. My palate was completely adjusted to the zing of the Stagg after some high proof earlier samples haha.

Usually hit the liquor stores for Wednesday drops, but had some time today so I hit three stores, including Binny's.
First was an independent I probably haven't hit in a year. They had my favorite Barrel (batch 28) from several years ago at original retail. Snagged that.
Next was Sal's. They had a 1792 Full Proof single barrel pick, I'm hoping it's better than the Old Forester Barrel Strength pick I got there last year.
Finally walked in to Binny's. General manager sees me and says one of my contacts put a bottle aside for me. Stagg 24D at $59. I can't have two? ;) :lr

I was on my local base today checking the liquor store. They're having a Blanton's release on the 6th. Show up at 1500, get a ticket. Drawing at 1530, winners get to buy a bottle. I'm not a patient person and will not be going. I'll just enjoy the OF 1920 Prohibition I grabbed while there (first time seeing it on base). OF is hit/miss with me, but I really like this one.

James, I’m with you on Blantons. I’ve had my share the last couple of years, and while it’s a good bourbon, it’s not worth the price anymore. Green River Full Proof for $50 all day over Blantons. Enjoy the OF 1920.

I don't know if any of y'all are familiar with the "Irish People Try" Youtube channel, but they're trying Elijah Craig Bourbon and Rye (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6FSPHxpwII). Met up with a liquor rep friend last night. He brought a bottle of Angel's Evny Rye Cask Strength from 2023. It was 114 proof. He claimed to have brought it for "market research". It was a good pour. No sharp after bite, but had a very long finish. Lots of vanilla and sweet fruit, but the last sips from the pour tasted like chocolate cake. It was really nice to try (we put down half a bottle between three of us), but the price is a bit more than I care for at $240 MSRP.

I was picking up some Four Roses SBS at a local place yesterday. It's relatively new and their selection has not been good in the past, but they've been broadening their stock recently. The owner said she had some Blanton's tucked away if I was interested. I declined and she smiled and said "yeah, I'd pass too." :D She did say that they were getting three cases of the Elijah Craig 18 Year SB. I didn't enquire further as I know even MSRP is not something I'd pay for it.

I found a stash of 16 bottles of Blantons a few years ago and bought them all because they were $52 a bottle. Sold many of them and now I'm down to one left. I know a lot of bourbon guys rag on it because it not very high proof, but the flavor is one of my favorites. Now, should it ever be more than $50-60 I don't think so. But it's still good stuff.
And BT bottles are only gonna go up because they just lost some of their distillery in a mudslide a few days ago......I'm betting they did it to themselves because the savage market for their bottles had slowed down a bit.

A Weller 107 and Evernorth Spirits score. Right by the place we had to go to exchange my friends kayak is a well known liquor store. Walked in and was greeted with a barrel sporting some Evernorth bottles. That’s the Bourbon Junkies company. I’ve been interested in their stuff, but didn’t know they were distributing on this side of the state. Got a taste. Very good stuff. It’s a 7yr old Green River barrel. Talking to the store manager, he told me we just missed their ER12 store pick drop that morning. We happened by there at 10:05AM. So he said he could spare a bottle. Had my pick between Weller SR or Antique. Easy choice there. Grabbed the Evernorth too.

I quite like it. It's 110 proof but pretty damned smooth. Fruit and spice forward with a pleasant finish that lingers. At $62 it's in the realm of WTRB, 4RSBS, OF115, and KC120, and I'd definitely grab another bottle...if I ever see it again.

It was bracket style over the course of a month and a half, I never tried more than one head to head matchup per day since the finishes would overtake eachother being generally over 130 proof. I haven't finished my final rankings, but as a group the 24's didn't do so well - 24A was 7th, 24B was 12th and 24C was 14th.
