It was a very strong plastic/chemical smell. Anyway, I took them out and I'm going to open the box tomorrow to see if it still smells like that. Anybody else who picked these up might want to take them out as well.

Otherwise I'm very excited about these!

Alright gentlemen...if you do have some Tat Black PL's I'd suggest taking them out of the box. Took the foam out and left it overnight, opened it today and it still smelled very strongly like lacquer. I can't imagine they've been in the box long enough to matter yet, but if you're planning on aging them awhile I can't imagine it would be ideal.

I did smoke one last week and they smoked fine, so like I said, no effect yet, but long term I'd say no bueno.

Well one cool thing is that you can light them with one match just by lighting the very end. I have seen many old timers do this at the local B&M and it is pretty cool. Damn, this makes me really want one now!

Mark, the LHOs are made by Pepin...the regular LHOs are very tasty. The LHO Small Batch are "supposed" to be a little better. We shall see. :D

Your end shipping today Eric. DC coming shortly Wait until you smell these things! After breaking them up into 5ers yesterday my fingers smelled fantastic. I have smoked the original release of these and they are the best Black since the original CG which in my opinion every black following those has been pretty far off the mark.
By the way the varnish smell that everyone is talking about on these is not varnish and is just the smell of wood/cut wood like some others have mentioned. I don't think they used cedar for these boxes but it's definitely not a varnish smell. Still will not use the box for storage though but it looks good enough to sit on my desk and be used to store pens and crap in.:D
