Thats a nice B, S15! I have 2 myself, a SuperOcean that was a wedding gift from my wife, and Navitimer that was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I also have a Tag F1 Chrono with an orange face, A Tissot T-Touch, Luminox F117, and more G-Shocks than I can count.

Thanks man. Those T-Touches are freaking AWESOME!!!!

Also, REMO, loooooove the marathon!!!

Our office is near Tissot and my cousin has worn the T-Touch since it came out. Very impressive watch that has been quite reliable actually! Even in the highest of the Alps, the watch is dead on.

Reminds me of a budget Omega X-33 (which is one of my favorite watches).

The case and bracelet on the titanium model is well crafted and is quite a good buy at that price point considering the material and detail.

I love my t-touch, especially when I get a chance to show off the features, the touch sensitive crystal is amazing. The altimeter isn't as accurate as some of the Casio's I've owned, but its still an amazing piece

If anyone is intrested in the Rolex market please let me know. I bought one in May 2010 and wore it to a funeral. It has been sitting in the safe. I have all the paper work and extra link.

Wow... that's a Rolex I think I like... :) I really want a watch with Roman numerals on it, I think...

If you like the rolex and want roman numbers, the datejust line is pretty cool.

I'm more in to the submariner (which I own) and the GMT Master II (which I'm considering at the moment).

I have calibrated it a few times, not sure if I'm too close to sea level or what the deal is. Sometimes its right on, others it'll show me as 100ft above sea level

Altimeters are affected by atmospheric pressure. You need to recalibrate it any time the barometer moves much, etc. 100 feet is not much for an altimeter to be off. You need to have a solid place of known elevation for calibration within relatively short range of where you want the altimeter to read properly. You don't just set-and-forget an altimeter.

Do you know of a certified elevation near your house. I use to have a bike computer with altimeter built in. I found the "official elevation" of my driveway and would reset the altimeter each ride if it was off.

I use the property report for my house that lists elevation as a close enough guide. Seems like my old casio ABC is just a little more consistent than the Tissot, but I'm in South florida, so there arent any real changes in elevation anyway unless I'm driving on an overpass :hm

If you set the altimeter, you can calculate current elevation or feet climbed within a timeframe.

If you are just doing a bike ride or similar day activity, you don't need to set it. Just note the start "elevation" and all the other waypoints. The errors will cancel. If, however, you want to measure vs something like a topographic map, you need to set so that you have reasonable confidence in your mapping to the set reference that is the map.

finally took a couple snaps of the new whip:

I never wore my black navitimer. It sat in its case for over 6 months without being worn....so i traded it for this white one. I've already begun wearing it. It wears much larger than the black face. obviously.

For some reason I just started getting into watches. I can't throw any serious cash down and if I could I probably wouldn't anyways. I just bought a solid black Invicta Sea Spider Special Edition and a black and gold Invicta Corduba Collection. I want to get a different brand next. Going for a solid gold or solid silver (in color not material) next.

Thank you and I am doomed! Bought 2 watches in 2 months. Just got that second one yesterday actually.

What brands should I look at next? I want to stay in the $200 or $300 range and I really want a skeleton watch. There are many on the internet that look great but reading reviews the quality seems to stink. I would love a Breitling but it is out of my price range.

My guess is that they are the second hands. It seems that you alternate reading them. The bigger hand goes from [6]0-30 (outer numbers); The smaller red hand shows 30-60 (inner numbers).

You're correct. When I first looked at the watch, I thought I saw a seconds hand, but it was the shadow of the minute hand in the photo. I first thought it was odd to have the jumping counter while there's a seconds hand (which there isn't).

Hamilton is owned by Swatch Group, so it's a quality piece for the money. Swatch owns a ton of big name watches, not to mention ETA movements.

Yes, it's just a standard sub second. The difference being only the markers are on one half instead of a full circle. 0 to 30 using the larger end of the second hand and using the shorter red end to read 30 to 60.

A GMT function is something I would like on a watch. By now, I know inherently what time it is in the other zone I care about. Rolex does it very well for a sporty watch that is light on the wrist.

The IWC UTC is one of my favorite 2 time zones without being too fancy.

You dont need to spend 350 for a skeleton. they either tend to be under 150 for cheapies. or about 400-600 for a decent one.

I WOULD REC ORIENT! (wait for the 50% coupons they FREQUENTLY put out for first tiem buyers}
http://www.orientwatchusa.com/urban-c-44_47.html

Bulova and Kenneth cole also make decent watches... and sell skeletons/openhearts

Also, Michael Kors makes a GREAT Quality watch, im sure they have skellies.

A reliable "Swatch" brand can be had for under 150.00

Also, look for skeletons with Unitas ETA 6497 movement.

Finally, i say just buy one of these.... looks cool as heck (Panerai homage)

inexpensive as well.

If you look at the hand the large white end is for the 0-30 and the short red tail counts the 30-60. It still spins like normal its just a little different gauge to read it by. Pretty cool imo.

Not really. Maybe. Just a little. :D

The submariner went back for the periodic maintenance service on Monday. The jeweler had to insure it per the current Rolex chart. The value was listed at $11,400. Paid $6,200 8 years ago. Not bad appreciation. Still haven't decided if I want to keep it to give my nephew for a wedding present (one day, nothing planned now) or sell it off to realize the profit.

The GMT-Master II didn't seem heavier when I had them in the hands, but on wrist it seems quite a bit heavier.

The case has to fit the watch movement for one. I have seen a few done in hardwood. Your best effort would be to copy a case and then swap the movement over. Holding the case in place is the most difficult, so perhaps doing that in a big blank and then cutting it down the right size after would be the method.

We make the tooling to hold the watches cases for many big brands in Switzerland. Each unique piece on a watch has its own tooling.

I think he may mean a watchholder as opposed to the case itself.

My main features in the one I went for was:

Big enough to hold the watch without hitting the glass. If you like big watches this happens with a lot of cases.

Pillows. There are a few designs for pillows on the web.

Enough slots to hols all my watches.

A drawer to hold all the pieces that comes with some watches. Extra links, polishing cloths, etc.

I've been working on the design and I'm relatively close, however I need watch pillows. I could sew them myself, but my sewing skills are average at best, I could have an upholstery shop make them, but I would think that would get pricey, I'm looking for something like the ones pictured below, but just can't find anything other than the actual square pillow looking things which I don't want. http://www.buywatchwinders.com/watch-winder-accessories-c-9.html

The square pillow design is not a bad one. I know it's not what you want, but it may be cheaper and it would provide a slimmer profile. I don't think it would cost much at all do have done by someone who makes cornhole bags or the like.

Volusianator

Hehe, you said "cornhole"!

I found those same ones online, the watchwinder style, but at $9-10 each I'm looking for something just a little more cost effective. I want to do a case with either 16-20 watches, two rows each tray of either 8-10 and two trays.

I just got my drawing finalized, and found a great piece of Honduran Mahogany that's been in my shop for years just waiting for the right project and this is it. But I really think I need the pillows first, I'm gonna check with the guy who did the upholstery on my camper on Monday.

For pillows. ... Why not just find a cheap watch case on eBay and chuck the case. But keep the pillows.

wayner123
03-26-2011, 06:34 AM
I wanted to add, that you will also want to pad the partitions of the box. The pillows alone won't be good rubbing against each other.. Bobby has a good idea, but at 16-20 that's a very large box. You may want to look at doing two 8's.

I say go big.

I want to add another point ten bucks for a single pillow is unreal. Type in "sicuro" on eBay and find their 16 or 2o watch case. It should be less than half what your looking at paying for pillows and includes pillows obviously. Sicuro pillows are Amazing and big. You won't be disappointed. Then use the leftover case to display logo balls hehe.

You don't need pillows, just use a bent piece of metal with leather glued to the outside. If the metal is thin it should have enough spring in it to keep the watch in place and the leather will protect it.

Make the shape out of wood and bend the metal around it.

For pillows. ... Why not just find a cheap watch case on eBay and chuck the case. But keep the pillows.

I thought the same, found one online for about $40 with the pillows I like, so I think I'll go that route and just use the box for something else.

Volusianator
03-27-2011, 01:26 PM
I wanted to add, that you will also want to pad the partitions of the box. The pillows alone won't be good rubbing against each other.. Bobby has a good idea,

Yep, I'm aware of that. I've looked at quite a few boxes, just want one that fits my minds eye.

any bulk collectors interested in buying an entire "Lot" of watches from me? i could get into details, but its probably better done through PM. But they are mostly everyday brands (i.e. invicta, textile brands such as Kenneth Cole, Ecko, etc). I bought the lot about 2 years ago from a fashion warehouse that has tons of accesories for photoshoots, etc.. It definately will bolster anybodies collection... just looking to unload most of them for cheap, willing to trade for cigars too.. lol

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, just figured since all the wristwatch people were viewing, it'd be easier?

this could be very cool if done correctly....

Im no engineer. but i believe this design will work for several reasons. The leather will keep from scratching the watch, the metal will keep the "pillow" boyant and allow it to hold the watch tightly. and the wood (if cut to correct width) will fit snug and taught in the slot.

if those other guys sell OEM pillows for 10, imagine how much you could sell these for?

I have a leather banded Skagen for daily wear, and a Kenneth Cole I wear for dressier occasions. But this weekend, while in Dallas, I picked this up (pre-owned) as an early graduation gift to myself
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o307/visheau/GradGift.jpg

The face seems kind of an off-white (parchment like) but in the sun it's pearlescent, I really like it, it has a black gator band, flawless condition, it's a limited edition 105/199 (didn't find out until after I had decided on it) to boot.

I finally found out what's wrong with me as a person. I don't give a 5hit what time it is!
That only just occurred to me tonight after flipping through 8 pages of this and finding out
there were 42 pages of it. I have worn a watch for the equivalent of about one of my
48 years in total. Just don't like the feel of it on my arm. I have developed an uncanny
ability to know what time it is within about five minutes at any time during the day. It must
be like blind guys being able to hear really well. Those are some nice watches, fellers

Rado have really turned their image around the last decade or so. Always innovative and tough, but odd styling. Now they have a perfect balance of the two. Been thinking of getting a Rado as well. They are well priced in general and made right near our shop. More popular in Switzerland than USA it seems. Same with Mido.

I'm really not a watch guy, but still feel so inadequate with my stainless Timex.

I had a Swiss Army Renegade, but the face came loose and the fluorescent paint came off the hands. Would cost as much to fix as to replace.

If I had my druthers, I would get either a Luminox or a Tag. Just like the looks of them.

I forgot this one. I wear this one only when I'm not drinking beer and smoking cigars. Certainly not for everybody, but the workmanship is superb, especially the leather strap. My only complaint is the writing on the 8 and 4. Down the right side of the 4 looks like it's missing paint. Actually, the word automatic is written top to bottom in such small letters I need a loupe to read it.

This is the Metawatch by Texas Instruments. It is still in Developer release, but man it is sweeeeeet.

It connects to my Droid (Note: only droids right now. No software for Blackberrys, iPhones, etc) via bluetooth. Along the bottom you can see: Missed calls, missed texts, and missed e-mails. It vibrates whenever I receive any of these 3 along with showing me who is making the phone call, or showing me the text message, or showing me which account received an e-mail.

Plus I get the weather! Best. Purchase. Ever. (I've been using it for a week now - wanted to make sure it really worked. I work in a factory so I can't hear my phone ring and usually don't feel it vibrate...but the vibration on my wrist is hard to miss)

And then a Swiss Legend as well, not sure on this brand yet, a little cheaper but they have a lot of nice looking models:

Which one do you fancy?

I think I'm going to start on their low end with a maxi marine chronometer. I love others they have but they get steep in price real quick. Big fan of the freak models and the more artistic ones. Really like the sonata silicium. But it's not like I can afford one let alone get my hands on one.

If Ulysse Nardin is the brand you like, the Maxi Marine Chrono is a good pick. There are enough of them out there to get a deal on in the used market. When you are ready to make a move, check out http://www.pduggan.com/

He is in Boston and has a good reputation with some big time collectors I've met. Great prices, warranty and you'll see the watch in person first since you are from the Bay State.

New watch, can't beat Singapore dealers.

I have a an Eco-Drive it's a titanium and is light as a feather
One thing I have been told is that there's a battery inside the watch to store electricity (when it's dark) and the life of that battery is >10years. I like it alot though. I am lately digging the automatic watches and have 3 invictas and 1 Seiko and fake Rolex Auto. I also have a fairly nice Victorinox Chrono

I also have a stainless Steel one that is indentical looking but actually has a seiko auto movement but branded as Invicta, it is NICE and keeps great time. I think as a whole invicta could use higher QC standards. JMHO

I work in a factory so I can't hear my phone ring and usually don't feel it vibrate...but the vibration on my wrist is hard to miss)

http://metawatch.org/
Posted via Mobile Device

Alright - so it has been 2 months now. I've gotta say...I'm never going back to a watch that doesn't bluetooth to my phone.

I can actually FEEL the vibrate feature since it is strapped to my wrist, I can glance down and see what the weather is outside, read all incoming text messages, and see who is calling. Best. Watch. Ever.

The part that allows the watch to wind up to 7 days is made by a company down the street from our Swiss office. I think that part alone is like $60; not to mention the customization IWC does to it.

True, but just arriving back from Switzerland, I can tell you the selection of 100% legit watches from authorized dealers there is nothing shy of impressive. The prices are definetly high there though. Been looking for a IWC Aquatimer Chrono and the prices are definetly much higher in Switzerland. But just seeing stuff like a Ulysse Nardin Tourbillon displayed in a shop window makes me weak in the knees.

I wear my Fliegerchronograph in the water all the time. Has the same screw down crown as Aquatimer. No screw down pushers, but I don't like screw down pushers for the timers. Makes it a hassle to use and I use the timers several times a week.

Just got this yesterday. Speedmaster Professional 3570.50 ("moonwatch"). I have a panda dial (white with black subdials) as well as silver hands on order. My plan is to have a local watchmaker switch them out for me--Omega made 300 of this style for the Japanese market 10+ years ago but I've not seen one for sale so I'm just building my own. Will post more pics if/when that happens. For now, though, I am really enjoying this watch as-is.

I actually sold an original Moon Watch from '68. Wish I would have held onto it, but I needed the funds for another project

Those are cool. Such history with the watch. I'm already thinking that after I do the modification on this one, I may have to have one of those pre-moon versions.

That is beautiful and looks awesome with your shirt and jacket!

Thanks :)

It actually wears smaller than it looks in that cell phone pic and goes under a shirt sleeve with no problem, which after wearing a bigger watch, I appreciate (btw, I'm pretty impressed with the new iPhone camera--that pic, hastily snapped in the car right after I unboxed it, turned out much better than I thought it would).

No doubt, it's a very nice quality pic, especially for a phone!

What's the movement on the Omega? Is that an acrylic lense?

Omega c.861. Same one they've used for 30+ years after they switched from the c.321--though I don't think there's much difference between the two. And yeah, acrylic.

Oh, that's a new or currently made model? Pretty cool!

Yeah. They haven't changed much, but this is new.

I need to tell Santa you weren't that good!!!I lied to myself and convinced me that I was good. Got a heck of a discount on it. I shop around big time before buying and I got $189 off the normal retail market price not MSRP.

My favorite new watch. Only one I am currently wearing now. I just love the look of it.

Any today's arrival, the Invicta model 0602 Reserve Venom Stealth Black Label with four interchangeable bands:
Stainless Steel
Tactical Nylon
Croc Embossed Leather
Color Matched Polyurethane

The watch with the SS bracelet weighs 16oz, it's a heavy beast. Like it or not, that's why I buy Invicta, I like the heft. The individual components are:
Case 8.9oz
SS bracelet 7.1oz
Leather 1.1oz
Nylon 1.2oz
Polyurethane 2.1oz

Can someone give me their opinion on Swiss Legend? Saw one on sale, same price as an Invicta on sale. Debating on which one I want when I lose my initial 20 lbs as a reward.

I have both, the Swiss Legend has a more supple polyurethane strap...if the one you're looking for has a poly strap. Between the two, I bought on Swiss Legend and in most cases will not go back to them. That being said, for me, I like the heft and weight of Invicta, the Swill Legend are no where near as solid or heavy. So, it will depend on what YOU'RE looking for in your watch.

When you lose a watch where do you usually find it? :gary

The last place I saw it.

But this is 20 pounds I am losing. Not planning on losing this watch.

Wade, I am looking for something....substantial. Good size and heft to it.

Jason, if you have a Sams club or Costco near you, you can look at one there. Invicta has twice the heft that Swiss Legend has. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the SL designs, but they just dont compare to the Invicta for feel. I think JC Penny carries Invicta too.

Wade, if you're still on that Invicta kick, Shop NBC is having their Invicta hour right now.

Did you find anything? I REALLY like that Leviathan.

I couldn't watch it all...one of my boys felt sick, had to take care of him.

Cant say I am a collector but I have a few watches. A Seiko pre-kinetic years watch, Guess water sport pro stainless, and an Invicta chronograph. These range from 16 yrs old down to 2 and all keep great time.
