Bob, I meant to post earlier that I've been making my way through that series for the past year or so. Great stuff, each book builds on plot points that have come before. Grander & grander, especially as Harry advances in power, his life gets complicated.
Butcher does a good job weaving it all together, throwing in humor, building suspense. Really enjoying where the story has gone.
I've finished through Changes, will probably pick up Side Jobs before starting Ghost Story.

I think Butcher really hits his stride in this book. He was a little shaky in the 1st and improved with 2nd and 3rd. Now, he really has got it!

I read a lot of reviews, supposedly the book had a lot of hype, but many readers felt let down. I only heard about it from a coworker recently so I didn't hear all the hype.

I assume since it is a re-read that you enjoyed it? I've been looking for a good book on the subject.Yes. Very well written. Because Hitler was the Reich in many ways, it covers his life and his actions in great detail. Written from the point of view of a journalist who was on the spot up until US entered the war and uses Nazi documentation of high level meetings, diplomatic negotiations, and decision points uncovered as part of the Nuremburg investigation.
If you are looking for a detailed military history this is not going to give you what you want. But for an overview of the political, military, and social history of the third reich it's an amazing read.

Stumbled across this one. The writing is good and so is the story so far.
The Last Ringbearer
Think of it as the story of Tolkien's trilogy and after as told by the other side. In fact, remember that to the victor goes the writing of history, so how different would the history be if told from the loser's perspective?
This is from the e-jacket e-blurb:
More than 15 years ago Russian scientist Kirill Yeskov tried to settle certain geographical problems in Tolkien's fantasy world. One thing led to another, and he tackled a bigger project - what would happen if we assumed that it's no less real than our world? His conclusion was that in such a case, the story of the Ring of Power is most likely a much-altered heroic retelling of a major war - but what was that war really about?
The result of this re-appraisal was the publication in 1999 of "The Last Ring-bearer" - a re-thinking of Tolkien's story in real-world terms. Dr. Yeskov, a professional paleontologist whose job is reconstructing long-extinct organisms and their way of life from fossil remnants, performs essentially the same feat in "The Last Ring-bearer", reconstructing the real world of Tolkien's Arda from the heroic tales of the Free Men of the West written in that world. We have a pretty good idea how well heroic tales map to reality from our own world...

Yep! Going to tackle:
Xenocide
Children of the Mind
Ender's Shadow
I've been amazed looking at Wikipedia regarding the Ender's Game series. He's written 13 full novels - only 5 of them (Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, Children of the Mind, and Shadows Alive which he is writing now) are really considered to be part of the quintet...the rest are just other cool things he wanted to add in.
I really like Orson Scott Card's writing style. I'm considering reading through LotR again once I've finished up with the Ender's series...but I'm scared to dive back into Tolkien. "Ahhh yes - let me spend SIX PAGES describing this door to you..."

On an aside, got one of my 9 yo olds to read Down The Long Hills by Louis L'Amour.
After reading "Run" by Blake Crouch I have moved onto more of his works. Recently I finished "Snowbound" and then "Desert Places". Ten minutes ago I just finish "Locked Doors" and read the intro to "Break You".
Desert Places, Locked Doors and Break You are a trilogy.
Seriously I have never been a fan of horror and thriller genre but all I can say is wow. This guy is seriously twisted. Every time you think you know what's coming next - you're wrong.
For those interested in his works I really recommend reading "Run" first.

Who's the author?
Brandon Webb. Not a bad writer for a SEAL.

Just finished the Count of Monte Cristo and started the Hunger Games, which is a very quick read. I've made it through about a 1/3 of it in what seems like very little time.

For the first time, brother, or are you prepping for the movie? And have you read the Ring Trilogy, or plan to start after this prequel? Or, alternatively, were the movies sufficient?
I read the whole series back about 10 years ago. I wanted to read something that WASN'T sci-fi to try to get me out of that genre for a little while. Gonna read The Hobbit then the whole trilogy.
I re-watched the Trilogy over Memorial Day weekend. Will be interested to see how much is in the books that I've forgotten over the last decade :tu

Just finished Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, and followed that long book up with a quickie The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Debating what to read next.
