I read that shortly after it was released. It had a Sword of Truth, set to current day, feel to it. Its a decent novel.

I'm reading JIHAD: The Trail of Political Isalam by Gilles Kepel , its for a class and its pretty boring. The only way I've been getting through it is cigars, usually a churchill for every 2-3 chapters. It details how ISLAM evolved, the proliferation of of ISLAM through Petro dollars and the involvement from the house of SAUD(Saudia Arabia). Pretty cool but boring

Finished Little Children by Tom Perrotta not too long ago and it was an
interesting read; very well written and quickly paced although the characters
weren't a particularly sympathetic lot. The movie was actually a little better for
once in this case.
I'm making my way through If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino
right now, it's brilliantly written, but the very nature of its conception is
designed to frustate and impeded the reader, so the going is slow. Damned

Here's the thing: I gave a copy of Ulysses to a friend, and she has started reading that . . . or trying to, according to her assessment. But I felt a bit guilty, so to share her pain and show her support I started reading Joyce too. However, since I've read Ulysses at least three times already, I decided that it wasn't fair of me to go the "easy" route. So, I've started Finnegan's Wake again.

Just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. A great book. Prompted me to reserve The Girl Who Played with Fire at the library. I also put a hold on Foreign Influence by Brad Thor and American Assassin by Vince Flynn.
Since none of those are currently available, I'm picking up A Drink Before the War by Dennis Lehane, tomorrow. Thanks Marianne for the Lehane recommendation (from your best of 2009 list :)). Well...I guess thanks, as I haven't read one of his novels yet, but loved The Wire (HBO) for which he wrote a few episodes.

Well...the three books I put on hold all came in rather quickly, and I've already finished them.
The Girl Who Played with Fire was exceptional. I'm anxious to read the final installment.
Foreign Influence and American Assassin were also both very good, but reading them back to back could lead to confusion. Scot Harvath and Mitch Rapp are too similar to keep straight! :r If anyone is the fan of one author, I strongly suggest the other as well.
I now plan to read A Drink Before the War. I don't think I'll have a lot of time to read over the next week though.

Currently reading George W.'s autobiography "Decision Points." Written in a very interesting style for an autobiography, focusing on the major decisions he made in office and what lead him to make those decisions. It's an interesting read, and truly shows what the reality of Washington politics is. Also, just started Keith Richard's autobiography "Life" enjoying it as well.
Recently just finished "In Search of Pipe Dreams" by Rick Newcombe, a great book on insight into the pipe smokers industry and a lot of focus into high grade manufacturers. I just ordered the Memoirs of Ulysseys S. Grant Maybe the best military history book I've ever read. Grant really describes military logistics and tactics in a way even a layman can clearly understand. He admires and respects courage and fighting spirit. And he shows many instances where a failure to press the advantage through timidity or uncertainty can cost a victory. But he makes it clear that getting to the decisive zone with the most trained men, food, and ammunition usually makes the difference between victory and defeat. And even the bravest and most spirited force or commander can be destroyed by a more numerous, better armed, or better placed enemy. It was never so clear to me before reading the memoires that a battle can be lost because of muddy supply roads or starving horses or failure to keep backup ammunition close to the front. Maybe it's his experience as a quartermaster that gives him that emphasis?

I've been reading a lot of economics lately and was in the mood for a historical fiction. So, I picked up Interretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfield. It's a turn of the 20th century novel about Sigmund Freud's only visit to America. Didn't know anything about the book or the author. It's nothing heavy and total fiction but I really like it.
Happened to see the author interviewed on television totay. He has just written a new book called The Death Instinct. It has some of the same main characters and is centered around the 1920 terrorist bombing of Wall Street. It too will probably be on my list sometime soon.
