I just finished up a series of books by BV Larson called Star Force Series.
Then I read a couple real quick ones by Joshua Dalzelle, Omega Risng and Omega Force.
Now I went back to the Crimson Worlds series by Jay Allan. I'm on book 3, A Little Rebellion.
I'm on my 11th book in 2 weeks despite the fact that I decided to quit reading fiction for awhile. That was about 3 weeks ago. :D
I'd think that when my reading habit cost more than my cigar habit I'd ease up. I should have known better. :lr

To my credit, I have found that there are TONS of really good $.99 titles on Amazon.
If anyone uses Kindle and wants to swap some sci-fi books, drop me a pm.

Jay, what'd you think of it? His last couple books have been taking the series in an interesting direction.

I have read the entire series and these last two books have been hard because of the move to new characters. I still liked the first two and I am working on the third right now. Overall I would say this one was enjoyable but doesn't standout as one of my favorites from Salvatore.

I feel like the reformation of the main characters will be complete over the next two books and then the series should take off again.

I agree, the move to the new characters was hard on me too. However, if what I've read is true, his newest one coming in Aug should please most of his diehard fans. Apparently the spell plague and all the changes in the Realms weren't really approved of by Ed Greenwood and other higher ups in Forgotten Realms development, so the event known as The Sundering is supposed to move the setting back to what they consider the heart of the Forgotten Realms, more like it used to be. The first book in the event is Salvatore's The Companions, which is supposed to bring back some old friends if I understand right.

Last night I finished The Long Earth - Terry Pratchett.
Right before that was book 5 in the Crimson Worlds series, The Line Must Hold - Jay Allan.
Now I grabbed The First Imperium. It's the 6th book of Crimson Worlds.
The Long Earth was okay, but it could have been so, so much better. I got the sample for the sequel and I don't think I'll read it. Too much coin and not enough weeyoo in that one.

Dust - Hugh Howey gets released on the 17th at Amazon. I'm looking forward to that one. It should be good.

I have read most of King's books but never got around to the original four Bachman books. I recently moved and found a.paperback with the four of them so I am reading them now. Rage is no longer in print as King removed it from circulation after the school shootings started years ago. If you like King check out his son Joe Hill. He is developing into a good writer also.

I decided to jump in to the Malazan Book of the Fallen series as well. I'm about half way through the first book. My strategy is to let the many characters wash over me and only track 3-4 as I move through. That can change to different characters, but right now it is hard to know who is meaningful and who is not.

Well I've been pretty busy but have managed to read:

Wayward by Blake Crouch (You need to read Pines first)
Walk the Sky by Robert Swartwood
Dust by Hugh Howey
Hit and Three (both Chandler Series books) by Konrath/Kilborn
The Enraged by Brett Battles

A lot of the above are series that can stand alone but are much better if you read from the first book - with the exception of Walk the Sky.

Currently I am beta-reading "Eleanor" by Jason Gurley for release around November I think.

I'd also suggest: Mineko - Book of Sisters by yours truly. :D It's on Amazon and Smashwords. I do need a couple of reviews posted on both sites - so if a few of you guys/gals would promise to do that - I'll send you a free copy in either mobi or epub.

Reading the final book (Number 14) of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series.

Read them years ago and just started them again Friday, I've killed a couple entire days till I couldn't focus my eyes reading the first book. Thankfully it's been so long I forgot a lot of what happens, so it's like reading it for the first time, yet having a few clues before going in.

I do recall a couple of the books being rather slow and uninteresting, hopefully this time around it will be different.

In the last couple weeks I read...
All 4 books of The Hyperion Cantos, which were good, but about 3 books too long.
Childhood's End - Arthur C. Clarke. Might have been a real piece that spoke at a time, but I didn't think it was all that great. Not nearly for the accolades it gets.
Going Postal - Terry Pratchett. Funny and kept me hooked.
Lock In - John Scalzi. It was pretty good. I'd recommend it.
I am Legend - Richard Matheson. I started reading it yesterday morning and never put it down till I was done last night. I loved it. It was nothing like the movie, as you can imagine, wasn't strung out an extra 10,000 words, and was pretty damned awesome.
Slaughterhouse Five - Kurt Vonnegut. Bleh.

I know there were a few more in there that I finished, and at least 3 or 4 that I started that were so awful I gave up.
I Am Legend was easily the best of the bunch.

Edit:
I just saw the couple posts above. I thought I was the only person in the world who ever waded through The Cantos. :tu

Finally got to Ubik, I enjoyed it.

I just recently finished Canticle For Leibowitz, I'm trying to finish up all of the SF Masterworks.
Problem with that list is that there's a lot of Fantasy and not a lot of Science Fiction.

I recently read "The Stars My Destination" and "Godwhale".
Godwhale was really good, I thoroughly enjoyed it. A dystopian/sci-fi mixture. Semi-dystopian, anyways. You just gotta read it. It's very different and very fun.

That was really fun. Out of my normal type of things I read, it was about vampires and steamboats on the Mississippi when they owned the river. It was long on steamboat and short on vampire, and really, really good.

I'm reading Space Viking - H. Beam Piper right now. It's a bit draggy, I'd put it down were it not so highly vauted. It's a short space opera, I'd say. And the way Piper writes, he's hard to follow.

I read Little Fuzzy - H. Bean Piper the other day.
I got onto Little Fuzzy because I was going to reread Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi.
It's a reimagining of Little Fuzzy.
Of the two, I think Fuzzy Nation is a lot better. But without anything to compare to, Little Fuzzy is excellent. Both are very worthwhile.

"The First Paul" by John Crossman and Marcus Borg.
It's biblical scholarship written for the layman. Talks about the view you get of Paul when you look only at the letters that are universally ascribed to him. Apparently half the letters are regarded by many scholars as having been written by others later. Well written and not too far over my head (lifelong churchgoer but by no means a scholar) so probably accessible to anyone who is interested. I thought it was fascinating. Warning: the authors would be classified by some as centrist or liberal in their view of religion and society. Obviously their biases are reflected in their biblical interpretations. On the other hand they footnote well so contrasting views are easy to track down for a balanced view.

I'm just finishing "Consider Phlebas".
It's the beginning of a 10 book series by Iain Banks.
It could have been trimmed by about 200 pages, quite frankly and bored me to tears in spots.
I'm going to read the second installation "The Player of Games" and if that doesn't shake out, I'm done with the series.

Just finished The Eye of the World, the first book of The Wheel of Time series. I'm intending to read through the entire series, but I'm not used to books lasting me four weeks to read! Planning to start The Great Hunt shortly. Thinking about reading something a little lighter in between each book though.

Theology and cigars, excellent. Add a finger or two of scotch and we might really get somewhere.

Just started "The Park Service Trilogy" A very interesting post apocalyptic setting. First book was good and I really have no idea where it is heading in the next two books.

A bit off topic, but how many of you have an e-reader? I picked up a kindle paperwhite a few years ago when it came out. I had been waiting for one with a light to come out since the first kindle. It quickly became my favorite thing.

Got a Kindle Fire in 2009 and moved up to the HD last Christmas. Love 'em.

Is that a Jack Reacher book? I read the first three and am taking a break before picking up the series again.

Yes, Sir. Number 18.
This past Christmas, I had only read through number 9. My son gave me a signed copy of Personal - number 19 in the series. I wanted to read them in order so I have been reading Lee Child since then.

Now you've only got 10 million pages spread over three books to go. :D
If you're continuing on with the series, a LOT of interesting things happen in A Storm of Swords.

A Storm of Swords is a much better read than ACoK -- ACoK is one of the most difficult books that I have ever read.

I read all my books on my ipad on the Kindle App.
I love it. Took away all the reasons I never read books.

Please tell me more...I've never heard of this series..

Frank, I think the books I've read in the series can be summed up as a post-apocalyptic zombie read for teenage girls.
Maybe not that bad, but super close.
Great idea for a storyline, but it's written by a woman and just sounds like it is in my head when I'm reading it. A woman in her very early 20's. I just want to stuff a pair of socks in her mouth and send her home.
I STILL haven't finished that second book. But as God is my witness, I will.
I'm at 90+% now.
Then I don't know what I'll read.
Probably get away from sci-fi for a bit and read some history. Ken Burns, I'm thinking.
Or more Zombies if there's any out there worth reading. :D

I have Anathem, just haven't gotten to it yet. I was thinking William Gibson wrote it, and I wasn't crazy about Neuromancer, so I've kind of stayed away.
I went and read the plot, a longer one a wikipedia. Sounds awesome. :tu

That wouldn't be practical, Scott. While there is significant overlap (duplicates), I have ~40,000 titles. Mostly fiction.

If you give me a genre you like and/or authors, I can tell you what books, if any, I have.

Sci-fi, Peter. Iain Banks, John Scalzi, the list goes on. But I have most all of the stuff that I'd chase. I'm hoping you have something I don't.

Good history, too. Ken burns stuff and anything well written and unslanted.

I'm currently reading Surface Detail, it's Culture Series Book 9 by Iain Banks. I skipped book 8, I'll read it next. Then 10 is the last one and I'm going to be sad. What a fantastic series across the board.

Peter, I'm gonna grab a Paperwhite. I'm hoping they go on sale on Prime Day, if not I'll just order it after. I'm pretty excited about it. Weeze is, too.
I just found out we can share our amazon book accounts, so we can both sync our books without signing in and out and making problems. :tu

I got done with Surface Detail, then finished Matter, and now I'm about 60% of the way through Hydrogen Sonata.
That'll be the end of the Culture Series by Iain Banks. I'll be a sad panda.

On Prime Day I bought Kindle Unlimited, so I'll be rooting through all that stuff to find nuggets for the next year. I hope it was worthwhile, it looks like it is.
