I live in Madison county, just outside of Lexington myself. Curious if you've ever been to Jakes. I haven't been yet but I keep meaning to go. Just out of curiosity is your name in reference to Apple?

I go to Jakes about twice a week! Its a great place!

And nope, its in reference to my name, and a nickname from my baseball playing days.

Today has been a great day. I used the money my parents sent me for my Birthday to pick up this sweet CAO Leather Humidor from my local B&M.

Sounds like a great deal. The hardest part for me is the seasoning process... I don't want to wait. It's all part of the fun though.

Just a hunch (I do this as well), I'm assuming the dates are so he knows how long his sticks have been aging, and when he needs so smoke them! :sh

It's easier for rotation. Some NC's are better if smoked before they age too long and other's are better with a little age on them to bring out the flavor. It also helps me keep track of where and who they came from for a later possible bombing run...LOL

This is my homemade humidor made from a file cabinet that I lined with spanish cedar.
Looks awesome. My question is how well does it hold humidity, and how often do you have to recharge the beads? I thought Spanish cedar would pass humidity inside to outside fairly easily if it isn't sealed. Also I really like the hinged lid on the bottom drawer, excellent idea.

and how often do you have to recharge the beads? I thought Spanish cedar would pass humidity
inside to outside fairly easily if it isn't sealed. Also I really like the hinged lid on the bottom drawer,
excellent idea.

You know, I didn't say anything when I saw that, because a man's pride and joy is what it is,
it is not open to much guff. But I was thinking you would need to keep plenty of distilled
water on hand, cause I bet it just races out of there. I think it is one of the coolest looking
converts I have seen, but I was thinking, boy I bet it dries out quick.

We could always save we smuggle them over the border.....they would then increase border patrol and create jobs. Useless jobs but jobs nevertheless. :tu

Just got a Best of Pepin Sampler from CI and have to lay them in their new home. :banger I also just picked up the Cigar Mechanic humidification and Cailber III Hydro.

Finally! I can post in this thread with my final product, lol.

Chasidor drawers came in a couple weeks back, but I haven't had time to reorganize the cigars until last night. Did that and now here is my story...

When I first started smoking, I only bought a couple cigars at a time and kept them like this (~2005):

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2023/5704698560_b42c056fc8_z.jpg

Then I expanded my knowledge a little bit and bought a little 50 count desktop and a digital hygro. Now I could keep a few more cigars than I was going to smoke in a week and this is how I stored cigars for a solid four and a half years (starting mid 2005):

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2723/5704698818_9e41fbc41b_z.jpg

Then I joined CA in April of 2010. Within a couple months I was out of singles room, keeping a couple boxes in tupperware, and still wanted to buy more. I decided to get a vinodor and some beads and at the same time, I ordered some Chasidor drawers to put in it. While I waited on the drawers and shelves, I filled it up as best I could:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/5704132467_8dd130e561_z.jpg

During that wait...I ran out of room again. Just needing a little bit more storage for a few boxes, I bought a 75quart cooler and another pound of beads. Within a couple months (around the end of 2010), the cooler was full as well:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3083/5704699324_4755afa7f6_z.jpg

So I shuffled cigars around, consolidated boxes with each other, and tried to juggle stuff as best I could. Finally, my dream day came, and my Chasidor drawers and shelves came in. I knew that would be the solution to all my problems! So I sorted through everything, dumped the half boxes and singles into the drawers, and kept a few choice singles in my desktop, and the others in their mostly full boxes. Here is the final Vinodor results all nice and organized!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3454/5704133027_67cffe0da6_b.jpg

Unfortunately, my 50 count is still about half full, my cooler is 100% full, and the vino itself, while having a bit of room, is mostly full too. The only upside is that everything is MUCH easier to get to now with the sorted drawers and whatnot. Before there were half a dozen boxes of singles/half boxes mixed together so I had to dig through everything to get to it.

So for now, I don't have any box purchases in mind, and any singles I do buy, I'll stuff in the nooks and crannies in the vino. If I only had purchased more drawers, but I had no idea how many cigars I would have in just under a year, haha.

I picked this one up about a year ago, surprised I never posted it. It's pretty freaking big.
I saved about 150 off it's market value currently, but for ME it was still a high-priced humidor, lol.
And before you say anything, it's packed away. This is not an empty humidor per se.

Just got done playing mega tetris with the vino, cooler, desk top and tupper.

I was able to finally fit everything from the cooler I had from larry's nuke in my vino. Don't mind the hydros they were out for a while the vino sits between 66 and 68 humi and 71 temp.

Those are "stock photos" of the Opus X fund-raising humidor. I am not saying MINE is empty.
(Of course it is, it's still packed in the styrofoam box it came in :D). But not because of a lack of cigars.
What's that lyric, "a match on a fire"? "Whisper on a scream, doesn't change a thing", lol. I have more
cigars than I could smoke in three lifetimes, Drez. But thanks. :tu I just have been meaning to post a pic
of that humi and finally got around to it. I also plan to post a pic of my Waxing Moon Humidor when it comes in.

hammondc
06-03-2011, 11:21 AM
It is more than 10 years old. I friend of mine that used work in the industry (store manager for a chain of cigar stores in the southeast) gave it to me. He said he thought it is cuban because of the darker band. It may just be that it has a lot of years on it. He had been out of the industry for 5 or so years when he gave it to me and that was five years ago.

It is lined with cedar, believe it or not. It just has a good bit of age to it. My friend hooked me up with it. Supposedly, they were originally put into some high end steakhouses/restaurants that sold Davidoff. I am not sure if the Grand Reserve line was only in restaurants or what though.

The humidor may be Mahogany. It has a badass 3D quilting/flame to it. It is hard as hell to capture in a photo though.
