If you lose the auction do yourself a favor and go bigger, maybe not a Vino but larger than a desktop because you will be buying another humi after that one. Trust me, at one point I had four desktops because I kept telling myself I would not outgrow another one. The term Slippery Slope gets thrown around here for a reason. I bought a end table style cabinet that I swore I wouldn't outgrow and thought it would be impossible and guess what? That is filled to capacity and so is one of the desktops that I kept in service thinking I would only use it strictly as a quarantine for smokes that came in from shipping.

My beautyfull humidor with its sad contents. Both the humidor and gurkahs were gifts from my wife. The beads and digital hygrometer were gifts from me to me. It is in the basement on my gun safe holding a steady 65% at 61 degrees.

You're right, its just right now I can't really afford to go bigger, but if I miss out on this one, perhaps I'll wait a bit and save up some money and get something bigger. It just seems that this is the best "bang for my buck" at the moment. Worse comes to worse I can also go to the legendary coolidor!

Damn the slippery slope!

Eric,

Do you use one hygrometer in your Montegue, or do you have two, one in the cabinet and one in the drawer, like I do? Do you find that the rh changes much from the top to the bottom?

Matthew, One of my cabinets is also a Montegue. I know Eric also has one. I love mine and I have 2 hygrometers in mine. One that is part of my Oasis XL II humidifier system that is plugged in the bottom part and one electronic one in the drawer.

I also have the Montegue, I love this humi. I keep a hygrometer in the top drawer and then one on the botom shelf aswell. I found the plug in the back great for putting a fan back there and that will keep the humidity equal in the top and bottom.

I just picked up one of the glade plug in fans, they fit nice and keep a nice steady circulation.

Oh, just don't put the sent pots in it. :r:r

They do have a small heating element in them but it realy doesn't change the temp at all, it just isn't big enough to cause an issue.

I actualy just use beads. I have two jars in the bottom of the Humi. When I first got it and after seasoning and adding new boxes I had to add some more beads but after a month or two I was able to remove some and it stays pretty solid at 65%.

How many pounds of beads?

Beads will work well also. 2 1/2 - 3 lbs of beads should be good. Put 1/2 lbs in the top drawer and the rest bellow. It all depends on how many cigars you store in it also.... My other cabinet is actually a 60 bottle wine cellar, and I put 4 lbs of 65% beads in it and it keeps everything right at 65%...

Do you use one of the small glade fans or the big ones? I just bought one of the small ones and have it in the bottom of my montigue now. I just don't see how that tiny fan would circulate much air in there. I can't feel any air blowing when I put my hand near it.

I have two, one in the drawer and one at the bottom everyhing is 64% sharp (but this is from my hygros... yes the have been saltested:)) On some ocasions I had 2 or 3% difference between the Drawer and the bottom but this was before I sealed it up. I have three fans running on my Hydra, one in the top pushing air in the drawer and the two others at the bottom. Hope this help. ALL Enjoy your Montegues (we should start a MOntegue thread:D)

I use the big one. I didn't think it would do much either, got the same issue of not fealing any real movement but it keeps the air from getting stale for me and keeps the Rh levels the same in the top drawer as the bottom cabinet.

Very nice! Does it seal well? Looks like a big gap in between the doors. Other than that it's gorgeous. Having a cabinet that big would destroy me financially as I would feel the constant need to keep it packed.

It does seal very well. The seals on each door are independent as there is a bar down the middle of the humi. The face of the surface on the body side is all metal and the surface on the door side is like the gasket of a refrigerator. The gasket part is strongly magnetized so it really pulls together.

just got a great deal off craigslist, 12ct thermoelectric wine cooler essentially brand new for $30 it is on top of my 28ct vino for reference. I think I will be making a couple drawers for it for singles.

that is an Avanti 16 bottle.. which is the same type i have below.. You can squeeze a bit into there, i can get about 16-18 boxes in there.... good for the price (these are cheap brand new)

Sure, PM me if you have any questions...

just FYI, they are not really "drawers", They are just cedar trays that i bought from either cheap humidors.com or cigarmony.com. i forget. I just drilled holes and put handles on them

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/Sixtydashone/newdraws.jpg

And the shelves that they rest on are just Tinted Plexiglass, cut to size.. i just gave them a scrubbing in odorless soap to get rid of the smell, and voila!.. Hope this helps

I'm going to noob it up here a little with my small collection. I've been enjoying this hobby/addiction for about 4 months now.

Bulk stuff. The left side is a Costa Rican puro that my local b&m has rolled. The right side is the wifes La Carolinas. Some random sticks mixed in as well.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c108/quantim0/DSC_0340.jpg

The wife bought this for us over the weekend. $45 from TJ Maxx. It's a little dinged up, but for the price I'm not really going to complain. I'll probably keep it for some light aging and bulk storage until it fills up too.

Yep. Only boxes in there that truly match the sticks are the V box and the Nub box. The rest are all from my local b&m. Avo and Davidoff seem to make the best boxes for the purpose. That is until Chasden gets around to his next batch of drawers!

I've lurked in this thread long enough. I got my first NST from DMK and thought I might as well take a few pics of the Vino.

I know it's small, but it was only $50 shipped to my house, so I can't complain. Hopefully when I finish school I can upgrade to a full size, and fill that bad boy up. But until then, I enjoy what I've got.

Nothing big in there, two singles trays, and a box of Devil's Weed Robustos. Not a bad smoke for as cheap as they can be had.

I bought this smaller Avanti about 3 days before the 28 bottle went on sale at Target off ebay for $50 shipped. I was debating on whether to keep it or get rid of it since I bought the larger one also, decided to keep it and put some drawers in it and use it for my Tatuaje stuff and the top drawer for singles, etc. and just use the larger one for box storage. In the larger one I may put a shelf and two drawers in it just to divide it up a little and make box retrieval a little easier and hoprefully get everything from my 120ct desktop into those 2 drawers. The drawers were made by waxingmoon.

I just got the big humi all arranged, finally. I put lights under every shelf some time ago. I added three low voltage fans up above and a couple hydras and tons of beads. The old girl leaks like a sieve, but with enough beads and the hydras it stays right on the money.
The whole schmear is run by the control panel that sits on the floor beside it.

Hey Scott, What's that box way in the bottom left corner?
That's a Short Story box. I keep all my lighters and cutters and stuff in it. I used to really like them, but I kinda ran past them. Fuente makes beautiful boxes. :tu

That's not a T-bar lid, it's my diatomaceous earth filter motor. I'm cleaning the fish tank. It's a never ending chore. :)

Very Nice. I'm curious. how do those devils weeds smoke?
I've been seeing them in the ci catalog for a minute now...

Just had to get a new cooler. The 28qt wasn't cuttin it anymore. Got a 48qt that fits great inside the sport bench in my room, to make everything nice and stealthy. I'm also able to fit all my smokes in this one cooler now! I'm pretty excited about that since I have a few more boxes on the way in :)

Much is the result of the wife who accepts the cigars as long as it's not turning into indoor window shopping... plus the cabinet had to fit with the rest of the interior, but that was just a minor issue :)

While wandering through a local antique store i found a beautiful old glass front china hutch for a steal. I thought to myself that it would make a great humidor. $163 and some weather stripping later i was in possesion of the 9 cubic foot humidor you see here. Of course i needed to fill it and went on a imediate shopping spree.

You can get them at Corona, but I got those at Burns Tobacconist in Chattanooga, TN. There's two locations, the dowtown location is an AVO Lounge.
