..... Why in the hell would Collins leave Batista in for two innings??? :bh :bh
That's what kills me about baseball today. It just doesn't seem right to have a pitcher who can't be left in for more than one inning. Taking a pitcher out after an inning for strategy, or even one batter, yeah I get that. But because the guy can't hack it for more than three or four batters? Meh.
But that's just me, a grumpy old fart at the end of a long tough day. :2

Mets drop another one to a team they should be beating, 6-1 to the Cubs. Santana looked like stir fried dog crap and Rauch comes on in 1/3 of an inning and gives up 4 runs (granted they were all unearned)...will someone please send his ass to double A or release him, HE'S KILLING US!! :bh :bh Seems he can't get anyone out.

You had to think the Mets were gonna sleepwalk through yesterdays game.
They just played 3 games against the Yanks in front of sellout crowds.
And now they have to play the team with the worst record in MLB.
Sunday's game was late, so they probably got in to Chicago in the early morning.
Classic let down game, IMO!

Thomas is a wise man...or wise-a$$....either way it put me in the mood for a Mets joke:
There were two men, one was a Mets fan and the other was a Phillies fan. These men were both madly in love with the same woman. So the woman challenged that whichever man does a better job at having sex with her would be her boyfriend. Both men accepted the challenge. That night, the woman had sex with the Mets fan and then the other night had sex with the Phillies fan. The next day the woman chose the Phillies fan to be her boyfriend. Shocked and outraged, the Mets fan asked why she didn't choose him. She replied by saying, "You, like your team not only come up short but always finish early!"

Mets beat a depleted Dodgers squad last night 3-2...back into second place.
For my brother Keith...the Phillies lose, yet again, and are now back in sole possession of the NL East Cellar!! :D
kelmac07
06-30-2012, 07:46 AM
Dickey wins his MLB leading 12th win last night as the Mets beat the Dodgers 9-0. Dickey goes 8 innings and fans 10. If he isn't the starter for the NL All Star team...it's a crime.
And the Mets take sole possession of 2nd place in the NL East, a full game ahead of the Braves. Still 3.5 behind the Nats.
kelmac07
06-30-2012, 08:16 PM
Metes shutout the Dodgers again this evening, 5-0. Pick up a full game on the Nats. 2.5games out of first. :wo :wo
On another note, the Phillies are down 10 games now...and still in the cellar.

07-04-2012, 01:36 PM
And the bullpen does us in yet again...piss away a 2-0 lead and now we're down 6-2. Looks like we're gonna give Cliff Lee his first victory of the year. :td :td

The media is saying that Posey (NL starting catcher) wouldn't be able to catch Dickey, so they are waiting to bring in Ruiz (defensively better) and Dickey in the 5th or 6th...total BS move from LaRussa. He is not on my "banned list". :bh :bh

1- Larussa has no business managing as he is retired and has nothing to gain/lose by being there.
2- I personally don't care that our guys aren't starting. I think they both deserve to start, but whatever.
3- I think its pretty crazy the Giants have 4 starters now - and not one of them deserves to start. The fans stuffed the ballot for Melky, Posey and Panda. Current rumor is that the Giants told Tony they didn't want Posey catching Dickey, which earns Cain the starting spot.
If the Giants end up in the WS and the national league loses the all star game, the fans have nobody to blame but themselves.

Second half collapses usually start in the second half, Mac. ;)
Even when Jason Bay homers, you don't give him any credit!
If you were looking for a bright spot, that was it.
If the Mets are going to do anything, Bay has to be the right handed bat they desperately need.
BTW, after all the Omar bashing, surprised Sandy isn't getting any grief here.
He had one job to do in the off season, fix the bullpen, and that, IMO, is the Mets biggest weak spot.
The bullpen is terrible. They are going to have to pull the trigger on a trade before the season spirals out of control.

Alderson should be building the team around him.
They Did build the team around Wright!
Remember those teams that fell apart, all those years in a row?
They were built around Wright and Reyes! :2
The Mets should absolutely trade Wright!
Why? Because he will absolutely sign with them again in the off-season!
Why? Because NOBODY OVERVALUES David Wright like the Mets and their fans!
Why? I have no idea why!
I've never seen a player be more loved for doing absolutely nothing.
He's won nothing here, and his stats aren't that impressive!
kelmac07
07-25-2012, 09:48 AM
Absolutely nothing??? Come on Dom. While he hasn't won anything...he has been an All Star caliber third baseman and a stellar member for the Mets, both in the clubhouse and in the community. While his numbers aren't HOF material, he is a damn fine ballplayer and an even better guy. And he's old school in that he plays the game the right way. Is he ever gonna have Jeter's rings or numbers? NO...but then again he's never had a supporting cast like Jeter. But that doesn't mean he has done absolutely nothing.
Stats for 7 1/2 years in the big leagues...while not HOF matieral, but I'd take him over any Yankee third baseman (except maybe for Nettles who had a better glove, but didn't hit much).
1199 Games, 4507 At Bats, 761 Runs, 1367 Hits, 2310 Total Bases, 311 2B, 19 3B, 198 HR, 792 RBI, 591 BB, 956 SO, 161 SB, 52CS, .303 AVG, .384 OBP, . 513 SLG

I was not slamming David Wright, I was slamming Met fans.
You hit the nail on the head when you said "while not HOF material"
And, I agree, he's not, but Met fans act like, and treat him, as if he is an un-replaceable, all time great.
I think David Wright is a fine ballplayer, and His numbers fall in line with a ton of good ballplayers, but he is easily replaceable!
His career averages are .300/22hr/88rbi, in line with players like Damon, Eithier, Swisher.
All good players, but none that are un-replaceable.
You can't even argue that he has intangible value.
What's the biggest, best, most defining moment of his career?
Very hard to come up with one!
Why?
Because he's never won a big game, with his bat or his glove!

While I agree that he shouldn't be deemed untradeable, my thought is this. Isn't it better to have a real good clubhouse guy like Wright, a professional hitter, a guy who does the right thing, and is there to teach the younger generation you are trying to bring up? I'm not saying build around him, but build with him. Like you said Dom, we overvalue him more than anybody else, so what are we going to get back for him? Maybe 1 solid prospect and a few guys who may never crack the big leagues? In my mind I'd rather have him here, because I just don't think there is value out there, and teams aren't screaming "we want David Wright and are willing to give up our 3 best prospects for him."
kelmac07
07-25-2012, 10:23 AM
No arguement other than he is currently the face of the franchise. The Mets need to build around something...if they don't stand for something, they'll fall for everything. What better player to build around than David? We cannot continue to shuttle old and past their prime free agents in and out of the lineup thinking we'll gonna hit the lotto and win. We need to rebuild our farm system and stick with it. Our pitching is horrendous this year..and what has Alderson done to fix it?? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!
And don't get me started on Bay. :bh :bh :bh

The bullpen tried to blow the game, but they didn't succeed! Harvey did a great job. I was impressed that he was throwing all different angles - inside and outside, up and down. I hope he can settle in and be reliable.

I never came in here proclaiming Cano as a "player who plays the game the right way".
If fact, the M.O. on Cano is that he's a lazy player, with talent that makes up for his shortcomings in the hustle department.
His being lazy and not working hard enough is what led to the trade of Melky Cabrera.

I just think one or two indiscretions on Wrights part pale in comparrison to the best player on the Yankees either hotdogging it or not putting in half the effort he should.
All that aside, Wight is a leader, and using your own argument, the Mets value him more than any other team will, so when we wouldn't get much back, why trade him. In light of Harvey coming up and being very good the other night, and the rumors that they may even bring up Wheeler this year, I think having a veteran presence in the locker room is necessary. Who else is that going to be? Maybe Johan or Dickey, but it is pretty clear to see that Wright is the leader of the team.

Playing the game the "right way" means you hustle on every play!
Using Cano as an example is grasping at straws.
Everybody knows Jeter is the guy on the Yanks you need to bring up when making comparisons in the "Hustle" department.
If I was a Sox fan, you would need to bring up Pedroia, not ortiz.
Otherwise your comparing apples to oranges, but you knew that already ;)

As of today I am no longer a Mets fan.

My comment was part of my usual ball breaking routine.
To be fair, unless he was going to sell off, there was nothing Alderson could've done yesterday.
If he was going to make a move it should've been after the Yankee's and Cub's series, when it was apparent to everyone that the Mets needed bullpen help and a right handed bat.

Agree 100 percent. What could we possibly have added to this team without trading something that is important to the future. Lets call a spade a spade and say that the first half of the season was something we didn't expect and it was great to see them play well, but that has run its course and injuries are starting to play a factor. I'm glad we didn't trade any of our young talent in a last ditch effort to try and make the playoffs, which at this juncture looks very unlikely.

You're talking apples and oranges. Bay hasn't been on the field for a full season yet in a Met uniform. The Red Sox got rid of him becuse he was past his prime. When I heard that Bay was signed I talked to a B-I-L that is a Sox fan. He said "good luck with that". It was a mistake from the beginning to sign him. He runs into walls and goes on the DL. I think he lacks depth perception or something. Wright gets hit in the head by a 90mph fast ball and is back on the field within a week with a humogous helmet to protect his melon. Wright breaks his finger and misses one game. Hell, the only way to get Wright off the field is for him to break his back. Bay is the most rested Met on the active roster, he should be cleaning up on the field and with his bat. In my opinion, Wright has earned his paycheck and Bay has not. So nope, no respect for Bay.

I truly believe he is done as a starter...might be time to put him in the bullpen as a lefty specialist. His fastball lost 4-5 MPH from inning to inning last night. We all know that won't happen because of the money we are paying him.
Oh, on that same note of money being paid...sure glad we are getting our value out of Bay...hitting .155 with 6 HR and 12 RBI...not bad for $ 16.5 million a year (4 year $ 66 million contract) for a part time player huh? :bh :bh :bh

I'm just going to say a few things about this season, and what to expect over the next few years with this team.
First, this is the team I expected all year. NY sports talk radio always gets on the Yankees for living and dying by the home run. Well the Mets live and die by the 2 out hit. At some point, those two out hits aren't going to come, and instead of winning 1 and 2 run games, you lose them. There really isn't much talent position player wise on this squad. Wright is the only legit threat in the lineup, with Davis, if he keeps it up the only other potential danger for opposing pitchers. Sure I think Tejada, and Murphy can be good players on a good team, but who actually says "Oh crap, Daniel Murphy is up?" nobody. Our catching situation is a joke, as we have had 3 guys up all season who are borderline major leaguers at best, and adding Shoppach isn't much of an upgrade.
We have 0 legit starting outfields, and that was ok in 2000 because our infield was Ventura, Fonzie, Piazza and Olerud, but not with this infield. Nieuwenhuis showed flashes in the early part of the year, and maybe he can be a decent player, but we need two solid MLB quality outfielders in the corners.
The starting pitching, has a bit of a better feel too it than any other part of this team. Dickey has been arguably the best pitcher in the NL. We have seen real good signs from Harvey. Niese has been up and down, but I still think he is a #3 starter in this league. And of course we have Zach Wheeler one step away from joining the big club. Johan... he gave us our first no-no, but he should be shut down for the season. He just doesn't have it right now. Maybe it was the 130 pitch game on June 1st, or maybe its a result of his surgery.
The bullpen. A total cluster fcuk. Omar used to be able to piece together decent bullpens. Sandy has utterly failed at this. If he continues to fail, it won't matter much whats going to happen with the rest of the team.
On the horizons, we have 2 very solid young pitchers who could be stars in this league in Harvey and Wheeler. Most likely we lock up Dickey and Wright to deals in the off season. But the biggest issue is we still have Johan and Bay on the books for 40 million next year. Odds are we won't be players in free agency, and the team you see now is most likely going to be the team you see next season. They may add a few guys in the bullpen, and sign an outfielder to a one year deal, but won't be players in free agency until at least 2014.
Honestly, I'm ok with this approach. I expected nothing from this team. I knew that there wasn't an abundance of talent. I've been glad to see Ike turn it around and start to hit. Tejada hasn't made me forget Reyes, but he has played really well and will be a good player on this team. There are some good pieces coming up and already playing on the big league rosters, and two years ago, all we heard was how awful the Met's farm system was.
So here you have it; the team you see now, is pretty much what you will see next season. You will get to see Wheeler, maybe a slight upgrade at catcher, and a patch in outfielder, but for the most part this is your 2013 NY Mets. Get ready for another rough season, but at the very least the outlook is better for the future than we could have hoped for even 2 years ago.

Haha, guess it was good you couldn't make it up to watch your team loose ;)
But I can't talk cause I don't know sh!t about baseball

Love his enthusiasm and he was SPOT ON!!! Collins has ACCEPTED this crap because he is now only worried about losing his job. Granted they played well above expectations in the first half...but 12-30 the last 42 games??? It's like they did quit. It has come to where I can't watch the games anymore because I know the bullpen is gonna blow it.

LOL Dom...
As I've said earlier in the year, smoke and mirrors. People get on the Yankees for only winning with the long ball, but when you live and die by the 2 out hit, you are just as much, if not more vulnerable.
Francesca's rant the other day was right on point. This is the team I expected all season, so the first half was a shock, and a pleasant surprise, but this team played well over their heads. There are maybe 3 legit MLB level players in the everyday lineup, and that is it, and its not as if there is much more in the farm system. All of the top prospects are pitchers. I'm not really sure what to expect next season and beyond, I just don't see any hope.

In all honesty, that is the one thing that irritates me the most about Met fans.
Every few year's they have a new rival.
When I was a kid, it was the Cards!
Any Met fans remember them?
Then it was the Braves.
Then it was the Braves and Phills.
Now it's the Phills.
We are most likely a year or two away from Washington being their #1 rival.
I guess when you constantly get your face kicked in by all the other kids in the school, it's hard to decide which one you hate the most! :D

See Yankee fans can't relate to this at all. This 66 million is crippling to us. Although I doubt the Wilpons are prepared to spend, it gives them an excuse as to not spend. "Well we have 16 million tied up in Jason Bay for another year."

Mets drop one to the Phillies 3-1. Dickey pitched well but the offense has been absolutely non existent in the past two weeks. So much for Dickey getting 20 wins this year...the lethargic offense has done zero to support him. And down goes any chance of the Cy Young. If we can't get up for the Phillies and the thought of dropping them under .500 and ruining their playoff chances then we really area dead.
