Didn't I call you opening day?
Do you expect me to shove my hands down your pants and give you a stroke every time the Mets win?
It's only 3 games, let's not act like the Mets are now favorites in the east.
Enjoy your turn in the sun, it's only a matter of time! :D

Still in first place...and with a two game lead (enjoying this while I can). Mets come back from 3-0 to beat the Nationals 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth. Pelfrey looks like sh#t early (what else is new), at least he didn't get the win. Nieuwenhuis hits his first ML HR. Wright and Murphy continue to hit the ball. :D

And we come back down to earth, losing to the Nats 6-2. Gee gave up way too many hits and Duda and Murphy looked HORRIBLE!! Both stunk on defense and stared at good pitches and swung at bad ones at the plate. Good news is that we are still in first place...for today. :D

Oh and now Wright has a fractured right pinkie. Here we go. I can't watch Cedeno play third. :bh :bh

No stroke for Mac, as the Mets lose to the Nats again today! :D
Don't look now, but the Mets are only one game above 500 and making their decent into the basement of the NL East.
Told you it was only a matter of time! :noon

Nice win over the Phillies. The team looked good tonight. Dickey had a nice outing.

kelmac07

Not a Mets fan at all here, but I went with a few of the guys in my fantasy draft. Wright, Johan, Dan Murphy and Ike Davis in backup roles. They've done well so far and I wish them all continued success. As a Twins fan it's good to Johan get some good innings under his belt with solid K #'s. Hoping he picks up his first W tomorrow.

Was all set to pop in here and say what a nice job the Mets have done so far this season.
Then I heard they are going to honor Jose Reyes when he returns to Citi field.
Honor him for what? A NLCS game 7 loss and two historic collapses?
Maybe they want to honor him for leaving and heading to a division rival?
Apparently now the Mets are backtracking a bit, saying it will only be a video tribute.
If they had any guts, they would string together a montage of him grabbing his hammy while running the bases, and taking himself out of last seasons finale.

Only the Mets! :D

kelmac07
04-17-2012, 04:04 PM

Bullpen has been showing their true colors the past couple games.

kelmac07
04-21-2012, 08:06 AM
And so the decline begins...after fighting to come back against the Giants adfter being down 3-1, the Mets can't get a hit with RISP and lose 4-3 in 10 innings. :bh :bh

On another note...Beltran is raking with the Cardinals. POS!!!!

kelmac07
04-21-2012, 02:40 PM
Mets tried to give one away today. :bh Up 4-1 in the top of the ninth and let the Giants tie it up. But we scored one in the bottom of the night to pull out the W. :D

The injury bug is back!
In the last two Days the Mets have placed, Cedeno, Bay and now Pelfrey on the DL.
Bay's injury (broken rib) isn't as serious as it sounds, but it looks like Pelf is done for the season.
These are brutal injuries for a team that started the season with no depth.
Mac get your glove, Sandy should be calling soon :D

kelmac07
04-24-2012, 04:55 PM
Cedeno and Bay isn't a big sting...Cedeno is a punching judy with a weak glove and Bay hasn't done anything since arriving to NY. Everyone knows how I feel about Pelfrey...glad he's out of the rotation.

kelmac07
04-25-2012, 04:52 AM
Mets spoil Reyes's "welcome back to NY" party with a 2-1 victory...and he goes 0-4. :tu :tu

Dave128
04-25-2012, 08:29 AM
Nice win for Santana last night. He looked really good. I'm not too upset about Pelfrey or Cedano, but I think Bay has some potential. That was one hell of a face plant he did, BTW! Bay has been hurt more than not since arriving in NY. He needs to get and stay healthy. I think he could be good for the team. His bat has been historically above par for the majority of his career. Although, there must've been something wrong with him for the Sox to kick him to the curb!

Santana didn't get the win last night.
As a matter of fact, the Mets have yet to score a run with him on the mound.
Hard to win games with zero support.
As for Bay, I think the majority of his injuries have come from playing hard.
It's easy to see he gives 100% when he's in the feild, regardless of how he's doing at the plate.

My bad. Santana officially had a ND. The team won the game because of his outstanding performance. Based on that, and IMHO, he should get the "W". It's not his fault the team can't score. As for Bay, I can agree with your statement.

kelmac07
04-25-2012, 11:33 AM
Bay may give 100% and play very hard (it's not like he's known for his defense), but he is just like Beltran. In that he signed a HUGE contract and has yet to produce in New York. Beltran had a few "decent" years, but nothing like his days in KC or his playoff performance in Houston. He just never panned out in NY. Bay has yet to hit for the power he had in Boston.

And in 18 innings, the Mets offense has provided Santana ZERO run support...ZERO!!! What do you expect from a AA line-up?? :r :r

Is it really that big of a deal? :D

Nice job with the sweep.
The Mets seem to be a very streaky team thus far.
Red hot or ice cold.
They will need to be more consistent if they want to hang around for a wild card. :2

OUCH!

kelmac07
04-28-2012, 07:28 AM
An a$$-whooping was laid on us by the Rockies last night...18-9. 5 errors and the bullpen gave up 12 runs...OUCH!!! A few good notes, Hairston hit for the cycle and Thole extended his hitting streak.

kelmac07
04-29-2012, 05:18 PM
Mets bullpen strikes again...blow another superb performance by Santana. Giving up a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the eight by allowing Helton to hit a grand slam. But the Mets pulled it out in the 11th and won 6-5 to take the series. :tu :tu

At 13-9 and one game out of first place...way better than what I expected...so far. Hello, I thought we'd be 3-19. :r

Bullpen "holds onto" one and the Mets beat the D-Backs 4-3. Finally ending the 4 game losing streak and giving Santana the win. The Mets score 4 runs for Santana...the same amount they gave him in his pevious 5 starts.

kelmac07
05-06-2012, 05:11 PM
Mets beat the D-Backs today 3-1 and Dickey gets another win. Still over .500 and it's early May. Surprising the hell outta me. Especially since the bullpen has 5 blown saves and is 26th in ERA in the majors. :D

Dave128
05-07-2012, 08:00 AM
I, too, have been pleasantly surprised so far this season. I was fully expected them to not be able to fight their way out of a wet paper bag all season.

As a side note: I noticed this morning that the Mets are currently sitting in third place and they have the same record as the Yankees (who, by the way, are FOURTH place in their division!).

kelmac07
05-07-2012, 08:13 PM
Mets down 2-0 against Halladay and Wright hits a big 2 run double to tie it. Then rookie Jordany Valdespin (0-6 is his short career) hits a 3 run HR against Papelbon and the Mets win 5-2. :wo :wo

Also unfortunate, so do the Mets! :D

I'm not seeing much room for the typical Yankee bragging so far this season.

Not seeing any reason for Met Bragging.
They always seem to start hot and fall apart.
While for the most part, the Yanks start cold and finish strong.

Here are the Mets standings on May 8th for the last 6 years

Year ........ W - L........ GB ........ Playoffs
2007........ 20-12........ - ........ No
2008........ 17-15 ........ 2 ........ No
2009........ 15-13 ........ .5 ........ No
2010........ 17-13 ........ 1 ........ No
2011........ 15-19 ........ 4.5 ........ No
2012........ 16-13 ........ 2.5 ........ ?

And the Yanks

Year ........ W - L ........ GB ........ Playoffs
2007 ........ 15-16 ........ 6 ........ Yes
2008 ........ 18-18 ........ 4.5........ NO
2009 ........ 14-15 ........ 4.5 ........ Yes* World series win
2010 ........ 21-08 ........ .5 ........ Yes
2011 ........ 19-13 ........ - ........ Yes
2012 ........ 15-13 ........ 3.5 ........ ?

As a Yank fan, I see no reason to panic. :D

Dave128

Typical Yankee fan trying to justify a piss poor start to the season. Mets fans, however, don't need any justification for the same. We're just happy to not be sitting at the bottom of our division! :D

Mets Expected to Land 2013 All-Star Game!!

Commissioner Bud Selig will join Mets owner Fred Wilpon and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg at New York's City Hall to make a major announcement Wednesday, expected to be that the Mets and Citi Field will host the 2013 MLB All-Star Game.

Numerous news organizations have reported the announcement is to unveil Citi Field as the site of the 2013 event, but MLB and Mets officials have declined comment beyond asking that media representatives wait for Wednesday's 11:30 a.m. ET news conference.

If that indeed is the case, 2013 will mark the first time the Mets have hosted the Midsummer Classic since 1964, ending the longest drought for current franchises. The second-longest is set to end this summer with Kansas City hosting the All-Star Game for the first time since '73.

"It will be a tremendous stage for a Midsummer Classic," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "It will be held in one of the nicest ballparks in the country."

Between the Mets and Yankees, the city of New York has hosted eight All-Star games in total, more than any other Major League city. Chicago is second on that list with seven. The Yankees hosted the 2008 All-Star Game in the last season played at old Yankee Stadium.

"It's great for the city," Mets third baseman David Wright said. "I got a chance to participate in the one that closed out Yankee Stadium. What a tremendous stage for an All-Star Game. I think it's deservedly so, and we'll get a chance for the world to see the stadium, see the new place. We'll kind of show it off a little bit."

They call up the kid at SS, he goes 3-4.

Mets have done an amazing (pun intended ;) ) job this year.
Especially since they're playing a 3rd string catcher, 4th string SS, and God knows what string in the OF.
Wonder if all these players they keep calling up who are producing is enough for Mac to finally admit Omar wasn't that bad? :D

Mets draft Cecchini, Gavin Barbe HS, LA SS R/R HS 6'02" 180lbs.

Bloodlines are always a good thing, so the fact that Cecchini's brother, Garin, was a 2010 draftee and now in the Red Sox organization doesn't hurt. The younger Cecchini, however, is more than making a name for himself.Cecchini has a quick stroke with good extension, enabling him to make consistent hard contact. He's got mostly gap power now and his speed plus instincts allow him to be a basestealing threat and take the extra base. Those instincts also help him defensively. While his hands are good and he grades out as average with his arm and range, some think a move to second might be better. Either way, this scrappy middle infielder is sure to get plenty of looks in the spring.

Yeah, I'd agree that contending for a wild-card exceeds the preseason expectations I had for them, plus there's all the injuries to boot . . . not to mention all those "batters" (to use the term loosely) struggling to keep their heads within snorkling distance of the Mendoza line. Dickey goes to 10-1 in throwing a one hitter. Mets win 9-1. 20 runs in two games??? WOW!!! If I had taken the bet, we would have lost both games by 20. :r :r

And tied for second place...but the Nats keep winning. :bh :bh

As far as I'm concerned, I seen the Mets 2nd no hitter. That was an error on Wright in first inning.

Nice outing by Dickey! He's been our savior so far this season. The entire team seems to play well when he's on the mound.

Yeah, and not too shabby how you helped out my Yanks, both in this series and your previous one, up in The Bronx. Thanks. :tu

And you're welcome for our help with the Braves. We'll see if we can give you some more with the Nats starting tomorrow.

Love the sweep of the Rays. Can't say I saw that coming. 29 runs??? The offense woke the hell up in this series.

Now for the whole Mets appealing the call in Dickeys game the other night?? :td :td

It wouldn't surprise me if they get shut out the next 10 games. ;)

That's just not right. To clarify, the Yanks sweep of Mets NL rival teams has been a welcome relief to the Mets inability to win recent games.

Yeah, my boys have been doing their part to try and help you out (save maybe for blowing a couple of those last games in The Bronx to you :D ), but if you don't help yourself a little there is little more we can accomplish for you.

I agree about Dickey, and wondered about the decision to juggle the pitching line against my Yanks. OK, I know the excuse was to give Santana a few extra days's rest after his no-no. But the Yankees are historically bad against junk-ballers, and I felt Dickey was a much greater challenge for them than Johan.

Guess we might find out for sure this weekend, with him pencilled in to oppose C.C.

Thing about Dickey - I wouldn't change the rotation at all around him. He needs to pitch basically every 6th day.

He really isn't a junk baller. I wish love when we throw him in the opener of a series, basically seems to screw a lineup up for days.

Chris, you'd know better than me about Dickey. But he'd be the first knuckler I've ever heard of who truly needed a 6-day rest. Most of them say they can pitch 3 days in a row, if needed. :r

I didn't mean he needed rest Tom. I think the Mets want to keep him on his regular day. Remember when the Yankees always made sure Mussina pitched on his normal day, I think that is what the Mets have in mind for Dickey.

I'm pretty disappointed. Bay plays his heart out. He gets a bad rap as a Met because he's been on the DL so much.

I always loved Bob Uecker's line:

It's easy to catch a knuckleball . . . you just wait 'til it stops rolling, then pick it up.

Just FYI, here about 35 miles upweather of Citi Field, the sky's a nasty stormy green, with lightning heading from Pennsyltucky-way. Don't be shocked at a rain-delay, since a shock's not nearly as bad as a lighning strike up aside the head.

I didn't get it either!
If you get a scoreless inning out of Batista in a tie game, you can't tempt fate, you have to get him out of there.
I know the pen was in disarray with Francisco out, but doesn't Collins remember The last time he faced Cano?
I'm not sure that ball from Friday has landed yet! :r
