I'm not so sure that's ... um ... even remotely legal. Plus, it's relying on a beta of iTunes, which I would be wary of in a "production" environment. Beta = potential for some serious bugs.

This is the same release that registered iPhone developers have had access to for a while now. As to legality, it's a piece of software which has always been available for free running on a device you already own, I fail to see any legal issues there. Besides, the public release is in 6 days so you can always just wait for the full Apple rollout (like those of us on Windows have to anyways).

Pre-order day tomorrow! This will be my first iPhone - I've waited 3 years for a Verizon iPhone and I just can't tolerate my Blackberry any longer. Looking forward to the cool cigar apps that are out there.

Wasn't trying to be combative. Just stating that the legal issues are probably not all that significant given the circumstances. The people that Apple would likely go after, if anyone, would be the developers who (presumably) violated the terms of their license agreement by making the beta version of iTunes available to the public.

Yeah ... you lucked out. Seems to basically be rolling blackouts on the Apple website. Epic fail. The ATT Premier site is up an running with the iP4 finally showing. I think I'll order it from there (though I wanted to order a bumper along with it).

Yeah ... it's dog slow. So's ATT's site. If you think about it, demand is probably higher for this one than any previous release. The 3GS was pretty high; but a lot of 3G owners didn't upgrade. So today we're looking at 3G folks upgrading, a lot of 3GS folks upgrading, plus a ton of new customers. I bet you anything this is the biggest launch for a smartphone. Ever.

For such a hyped launch, it's pretty amazing that they're failing so miserably this morning. I wonder how many millions of hours of productivity are being lost across the country right now as people keep trying to get the site to work. I know most folks in my office haven't gotten jack for work done yet. :r

I have wasted quite a bit myself.
Tried Apple.
Tried AT&T.
Both are locked up and literally crashed.

Tried calling them for kicks.
Neither can take the call due to volume.

I guess there is not much interest in Apple's new phone at all.

Also Apple release an Apple store iPhone app today. They said u could download the app and upgrade from ur iPhone

Yeah I went to the Apple store last night about 1am Pacific time, 4am Eastern time to see if I could beat the rush since I'm on the west coast, but the store wasn't even up. Said they were upgrading the system... Now I've been trying for an hour with no luck. Even called AT&T and they said I need to preorder online only... thanks!?! LOL

Regarding the Apple App to preorder... great idea but for me, only if they allowed shipping. I don't want to deal with waiting in lines and can wait a day or two for shipping if needed.

Imagine a world (well, an America) where the iPhone was spread across multiple carriers and instead of bogging down one carrier's site on launch day, it was spread across 4 different carriers. I finally got mine pre-ordered on the ATT site!! One thing I hate though is that Apple requires FedEx to get a signature for delivery. I may have to pay someone to sit at the house all day on the 24th!!

Once you get the tracking number on the shipment, you can call FedEx and ask them to hold at the depot or re-route to a Kinkos/FedEx Office near you and you can pick it up there.

I don't blame Apple for being a PITA on the shipping with mandatory signature requirements, these things are going to be a very hot item for theft.

fair enough. ATT service is pretty good in these parts, so I'm actually looking forward to an improvement compared to Sprint. then again, the grass is always greener....

Squaretrade only pays a max of $499 for whatever iphone you have, so be mindful of that. Then the $50 deductible, and the cost of the plan.
That leaves you at $350 for a phone that costs a lot more to replace.
They'll have it fixed if you don't destroy it, and it's a good deal, just wanted to throw that out there. They won't replace a destroyed iphone, they'll just Ppal $350.00.

Following in AT&T's footsteps, Apple has sold out of the initial allotment of iPhone 4s for launch day. The Apple online store now lists July 2nd as the earliest ship date that you can receive an iPhone 4.

Stores may still have stock on launch day for walk-in traffic, but it seems the allotment for pre-orders has been filled. The iPhone 4 will launch on June 24th, 2010.

If you plan to do this at the apple store, if they do it anything like the iPad they let 4 "preorder" customers and 1 non-preorder customer (which if you ask me was BS since me and all the other people in the pre-order line took the time to do so)

Won't be shipped until the 2nd. Arriving between the 6th and 8th.
I'd rather wait just over a week than fight with the people at the Apple store.
I'll be in Vegas during that wait time, so I won't even notice.
I do have one on reserve, but I was having issues reserving a second one, so I'll just cancel it.

I ordered 2 this morning.
Won't be shipped until the 2nd. Arriving between the 6th and 8th.
I'd rather wait just over a week than fight with the people at the Apple store.
I'll be in Vegas during that wait time, so I won't even notice.
I do have one on reserve, but I was having issues reserving a second one, so I'll just cancel it.

Just took a different road, same as yours.
Heck with waiting in line all day on the 24th.
Mine ships on the 2nd as yours. I can wait until then and save the personal day and frustration.

What really made me do it is what I now read in Apple's site.
It had two options yesterday. One of them is now replaced to show you local Apple stores. Says you can just walk up and buy up to two while supplies last. Why the heck did some of us waste our time making a reservation, to wait in line, to perhaps lose out our phone to someone who just shows up and did nothing else?

I think people who show up on the 24th and wait in line without a reservation are being highly optomistic about getting a iphone that day. :2

iPhone 4s have begun shipping from Apple and AT&T. Don't get your hopes up, though -- they still won't deliver until the 24th. The ones shipping from Apple are coming from China, through Alaska, and to regional distribution hubs where they will wait until it's time to move them for delivery. The ones from AT&T are entering the shipping system; but it's believed (based on past years) they won't actually *ship* (i.e., be on trucks) until the 23rd for delivery on the 24th.

It's nice. I've been running it a week and haven't run into any major issues other than battery life has been shortened. (I can only assume from multitasking)

The iOS4 gets released today (just the operating system). The iPhone 4 is released on the 24th.

And just a warning: word around the campfire is that iOS4 isn't so friendly to the 3G. 3GS is looking good (as some of you have already experienced).

Just realized, I ordered the 16G iPhone 4.
While downloading the new system, I just realized I only have 5.94 free space on my current 16G 3G.
Perhaps I should have dropped the extra money for the 32G.
I guess I will have to eventually remove some stuff to make room.

Lisa updated hers earlier. There's lots of neat new stuff. She even pm'd me a screenshot of her new desktop on her phone. That was wicked cool. :)

Supposedly I am upgraded to 4.0 although it stalled at some restoring point and I restarted the synch.

Aside from a little glow under the phone, mail, ipod etc icons, I am not seeing all the new stuff. Am I blind?

Carlos, I am in the same situation as far as storage and will definitely upgrade to larger storage as I keep most of my favorite music with me at all times.

Edit: Ok, my camera has a zoom, and wants to use my current location.

Pete you can push on an app until they start to shake, then you can move an app and drop it on another then it will create a folder (automatically naming it) and then you can put up to 12 apps in the folder. You can also rename the folder as well.

I got the super swank Razr 3 once. It was a brand new hand me down from my daughter. I activated it and walked out on the front porch and called my bud.
About 15 seconds into it I dropped it and immediately had TWO Razrs. The top snapped clean off like it was meant to work like that.
Thus ends my Razr experience. A shame, cause it was a wicked sweet phone.

You can use Garage Band if you have a Mac and can create any ringtone you want and then assign it to whoever you want.
I have Pants on the Ground for my son as it reminds me of my battles with him when he was younger.
I have the Geico Ring Ding Dong song from the commercial as my generic tone.

With iTunes, you can take a non-DRM track (an AAC or MP3 that doesn't have protection on it), cut it up, and re-import it as a ringtone. Quick. Free. Easy.

And it works with both Macs and Windoze.

Look up the directions -- they're everywhere.

I spent the whole day at work trying to get through to order it the day they started taking orders, when I finaly got through I didn't realize they had changed the shipping date. Oh well.

My stupid 3G is finaly updating, but its been stuck at the 3min remaining mark for some time now. It needs to finish so I can go to Santa Barbara and meet with my tattoo artist. Stupid Apple, monopolizing my time!

Hopefully that will speed it up. Although the sync will still take a long time.

My computer decided it wanted to restart itself to install windows updates while I wasn't paying attention. Luckily the new software had installed but the restore hadn't finished so basicly I'm holding a 3G with 4.0 software like it would come out of the box. Oh well that'll work for now, I'm too lazy to do another restore now

Anyone who is eligible for an upgrade any time in 2010 can get it for $199.
Anyone who is eligible for an upgrade beyond 2010 will pay the price you list.

A little off topic but I think it warrants discussion. Has anyone given any thought to the new data plans for the iPhone, i.e. 200MB, 2GB, Unlimited?

My max usage is 254.47MB so I will obviously downgrade to the 2GB. It's only $5 difference but every little bit helps. My wife has a max usage of 157.71MB so I would be tempted to downgrade hers to the 200MB and save $15.

The only issue I would forsee is that the unlimited data will never be offered again. Once you downgrade, it's gone. I am keeping my unlimited, I can always change it later.

Tony, given you have an AT&T in, do you know if I can keep that unlimited data if added to a new line, to my existing account?
May get one for the wife once things calm down a bit.
I have a foundation/corporate linked account that gives me a discount via my company and basically treats us well as result.
I would hope they would allow me to add a line and keep that old plan with it.

I've had this particular 3g (I've gone through several in the last two years, I was a lineman not a reciever) for about 4 months and between incoming and outgoing I've got just over 8.2GB. I must be in that 2% that the new system wouldn't cover. :xxx

The 3G has very few of the changes that came with new download.
I am in the same boat as you.

I can't even fathom what I would have to do to use more than 2GB of data usage a month.

Sounds like my dad when I was about 12..."What would anyone ever need a GB of storage on a computer for..."

2gb of data in a month is nothing today - streaming video (Hulu, Netflix), high resolution images, streaming music (Pandora), and the list goes on.

And I'm thinking about it. My mom is due for an upgrade too so I'm thinking of trying to get one under her number too and she can have my preodered one when it comes. But it all depends on if the mood strikes me

I've had this particular 3g (I've gone through several in the last two years, I was a lineman not a reciever) for about 4 months and between incoming and outgoing I've got just over 8.2GB. I must be in that 2% that the new system wouldn't cover. :xxx

Are you getting that from your phone?
I checked the AT&T site and I've only gone over 500mb once in the last year and 4 months. I haven't looked at my phone stats.

The only issue I would forsee is that the unlimited data will never be offered again. Once you downgrade, it's gone. I am keeping my unlimited, I can always change it later.

True, but you have no idea if you will be able to keep the unlimited plan on your next upgrade or if AT&T will keep the iPhone... never know.

I'm going to go up to the roof of the building where the apple store is with a few boxes of android advertising leaflets and drop them on the line.

I might even toss in a bunch of 8x10 glossies of Bill Gates too.

If there was any way to get my hands on a mockup of the 4G, I'd drop one and record the chaos and submit it to a video contest.

I highly recommend no one leave their unlimited plan. I use 2gb-3.5gb a month! YouTube, emails, etc eat it up quick! I will be :r when ATT rapes you for going over!

Yeah, I highly recommend staying with unlimited too, however, the new plan isnt too bad... $25 for 2GB, and $10 for each additional GB. So not a lot of rape

Yeah, with my usage I gave up the unlimited plan. It seems that I am in a WiFi area when I do most of my heavy data usage and figured I would save $5/month for awhile before I would ever start using more than 2GB/month, if ever in the near future. So I'm willing to gamble knowing I will be saving money for some time... Time will tell.

At the Apple Store, tomorrow June 24th, they'll have a line for those with reservations and a separate line for people (like me) who don't have a reservation. The second line will be first come, first serve until they're out.

Got it!

Better than expected

1. I can't make mine have the antenna issue thats being reported
2. Camera is a real tool now
3. HD Video is great but can be shaky in hand with CMOS jello effect
4. FAST real FAST
5. Folders are great
6. Screen is noticeably better
7. Multi tasking is an answer to a question I wasn't asking, but nice
8. Fit, finish , feel is great. Best feeling iphone since original
9. Speaker seems clearer and louder
10. Wifi connection is faster on my network (n)

Well, got up at five when the alarm clock went off so I could head out to the Apple store.
Put it on snooze.....turns out I am still home.

I guess knowing I have a mail order to be shipped on 7/2 doesn't make me sweat that much.
Will take a ride over there shortly to check it out.

Tony is home. Line formed @ 6:00 am, mall did not let anyone line-up before that. Apple store opened @ 7:00 am, it was 7: 20 before the first iphone4 left the store. I was done by 8:00 am.
