This is as far as I go on cheering on the Hawks; congrats on them advancing, Pops. Hawks are just a great team, with too much talent. Will the Hossa curse rise in the WCF?

Out of the remaining teams here's who I'd rather not see win the cup (from they better lose to that would be cool if they won).
1. Pens
2. Hawks
3. Sharks
4. Flyers
5. Bruins
6. Habs

If the Pens make it past tonight, you can rest assured you will see them in the Finals again this year.

But that is a pretty big *if*, this series has been great, Montreal has proven they can play and want to win.

If my beloved Pens get the boot tonight I would not be too disappointed.

Speaking of goals. I noticed this in the last game in Montreal and now seems like retaliation tonight. WTF is up with the ridiculous length they are sounding the goal horn for. I also noticed this in Ottawa for the world Jrs. and in the Olympics also. Do you really need to sound the horn for like 30 focking seconds?

Flyers force a game 7. B's better find their heart and fast.

The Habs win the cup? Sorry looking at both the Hawks and Sharks I see 2 teams that are deeper bigger and stronger. I am fairly certain the West will win the cup. That said though maybe not if the Sharks and Hawks try to kill each other like some are predicting the winner may limp into the cup games with some wounds and be easy pickings.

I am loving the Flyers I need to go back to the begining of the thread where I picked them comming out of the East and quote it. :r

OOO and yeah Tom the road from the East just may be through Penn this year. Pitt and Phily look like they are the ones. Well if Emery holds up strong.

I am just saying back in October I was thinking Philly could do it. So I could and did thunk it. Was really suprised to see the Pens go down. I like the mix of players on Philly as to a cup run. Their issue will be goaltending. I dont see Boucher as a cup goalie, but you never know

Back in October I thought so too, and, like you, I couldn't see Boucher carrying the team to the cup either...of course that will fall on Leighton's shoulders now that Boucher's out for a month. You obviously always hate to see someone get injured, but I think Leighton getting to play may be a blessing for the Flyers. I think he's the better goalie of the two.

I'm stoked by the heart the Flyers are showing. They seem to play their best when their backs are against the wall... but when they went down 3-0, a lot of Flyer fans around here were giving up hope. Truthfully, I wasn't one of them, as a few guys I was watching the beginning of the game with last Friday could attest.

Never know they could be the third team ever and put them in rare company. I like there chances against the Habs if they do it also. They are going to beat on them a lot. Nice thing is it will make the winners of both the East and West on even ground as the west series is going to be very physical. Also the Flyers would stack up better agains the west then the Habs. They are big like the 2 western teams.

well it is the two best teams remaining after all. :r
I think the league knows the winner of the west is going all the way baby. That's right I said it. :)
Sorry you got the #1 and #2 seed from the admitted stronger conference going up against either the 6th or 8th seed. amost analysis admitted the west as a whole was the stronger conference. Combine that with the 1 playing the 2 and the size and skill of both teams and it is unlikely the Easts teams will win. To me the Easts best chance is the flyers. I think the Habs will literaly be beaten into submission by either Western team, the B's are to hot and cold to win, the Flyers are the only team remaining that could take and return the big physical style the west will bring.

That said I think the Hawks will take the west. With big fuglyin playing the holmstrom role combined with the skill and physicality of the team and I think over 7 the Hawks will win. Maybe less if sluefoots are involved.

You just want to stave off disappointment, Mike...Sharks will make a series of it, I have little doubt. The Hawks have to pick one line to put their best checking line (Bolland's line) on....I think Q will put them on Big Joe's line as Marleau and Heatley, though not as hot as Joe P., are what he considers the biggest threat. That leave Toews line checking Pavelski and Co., and that might not bode well to have the Hawks best scoring line checking against SJ's hottest line, at least for the Hawks' offense.

I just hope Byfuglien can get in Nabokov's head the way he got into Luongo and the Canucks' fan's heads. Might not be as easy with bruisers like Murray, Blake and Wallin on the Shark blueline. But I can still hope.

like I always say I am a Sharks fan, but a hockey fan first. I don't look at any series with homer glasses. To me you have 2 big strong skilled teams with shaky goalies at times.

with all that the Hawks to me just seem to have more grinders and Byfugly I think will be a huge factor in this one if he keeps his head. Nabby is not the headcase that luongo is though, make no mistake. I have watched him his whole time here he won't react like the stache. I just think over 7 the Hawks will get it done. That is provided that both big joe and little joes lines don't get hot. If that happens I see the Hawks getting into penalty trouble.

Nabokov has matured a lot over the last couple years...Definitely more of a "team first" guy now.

If both Joe lines are hot, Hossa and Sharp will have to pick it up and not leave the Toews/Kane/Buff line to do the scoring.

I think the Hawks won;t take "stupid" penalties, but may be forced to do some hooking and tripping if the Joe lines start skating circles around the Hawks.

I still think it will be a series, but I think if the Hawks keep playing the brand of road hockey they did the first two rounds, they will make it to the SCF.

Pah, if any game in the NHL is ever with bias it's far more likely to be in the favour of whatever US team is involved than in favour of a Canadian team. Bettman knows he has the Canadian market locked up no matter what happens, it's all the southern US market's where hockey has questionable drawing power than he's in trouble. He can probably better market an all US team final to those markets than he can one involving a Canadian team, and that's the direction he's been vainly attempting to grow the league and game.

Might be a little different with Montreal this year considering how well he could spin the whole underdog story combined with fact that the Habs are hockey's NY Yankees, but I digress.

Bettman is pretty universally hated up here North of 49th in case you couldn't tell :r I would love to see a Canadian team win the Cup simply to hear Bettman get booed during the Cup presentation.

It ain't just in Canada, Geoff...Bettman is roundly booed in every U.S. rink I have ever seen him in, including when I have seen him in Chicago. Unfortunately, I haven't yet witnessed him being booed while handing the Cup to a Blackhawks captain...but I hope this might change this season.

I'd love a Habs v Hawks final purely for the history of it. There hasn't been an Original 6 final in 31 years since the Habs last beat the Rangers in 1979. The stats are also pretty good for my side considering the Habs have won every single Original 6 final they've contested since the league expanded ;). If the Hawks win they get to extinguish the longest Stanley Cup drought in the NHL. If the Habs win they notch up their 25th Cup in the 100th year of their franchise, a win percentage that only the the NY Yankees and the NZ All Blacks surpass.

Both the Hawks and the Habs have tough series in front of them, but I really hope they both make it to the Final.

Great game clearly shows why the teams are 1 and 2. Niemmi saved the Hawks Bacon early and often. That said I like the way the Sharks looked. I think Sharks fans and Hawks fans alike probably liked their teams' efforts today. If Niemi has an average game, the Hawks probably lose by 2 or 3.

I think both teams gave the puck away more than they would like. Sharks shot wide on a few juicy rebounds that they will be seeing in their nightmares tonight. It is going to be a great series for sure.

Best thing in this fan's eyes for the Hawks besides Niemi's performance? The fact that they got 40 shots on goal despite not having a single power play chance.

Wish I was going to the game with you Tuesday, Mike...I know it's going to be exciting.

Looks like I may take my son to the game tomorrow night. Seems odd to drop $114 on a seat for a 4 year old, but if I am going to go he would have the time of his life I am sure.
Might sell the tickets though so not sure. Will make sure to post a pic or 2 if I go.

Hoping to see the Flyers lay another beatdown on the Habs so I can say I called that series also. Like I said though if the Habs have this much trouble with the flyers they would be little work for either Western Conference team.

I dont know if beatdown is a strong enough word to describe how bad that game was. The Habs looked scared and their power play couldnt even enter the zone at times. The Flyers looked like the damn Red Wings out there with there crisp passes and cycling

being in Philly for game 7 was quite the experience being a B's fan. Congrats Philly and since you are the lesser evil I hope to beat the Habs.

At this point I would like to see the B'hawks and Flyers and seeing the B'hawks take home the cup.

I have an interesting night ahead of me...I have tickets to about 10 Phillies games a year. Me and my group of friends "draft" them before the season starts and happen to have tickets for tonight. I am hoping for a rain-out but I don't see that happening. Time for a revised plan!

So tonight I'm going to a baseball game with the intention of watching a hockey game! There is a bar located in the baseball stadium (McFadden's) who better have the game on! Maybe I'll watch some baseball during the intermissions.

Au Contraire! I realize I didn't post my picks for this round, but I picked (before the series started) Sharks in 6 and Flyers in 7. Unfortunately I didn't get to see even one minute of the Sharks/Hawks game, but from the highlights I saw and from what I've heard and read, it seemed like the Sharks carried the flow of the game and if not for Niemi's performance could have (should have?) won. I expect even more offensive pressure by the Sharks tonight. <-- Again, disclaimer, I didn't see any of the game.

If Niemi had an average game, Sharks win Game 1 Mike. Sure hope the Hawks don't give up 45 shots on goal again.

nah I ended up selling them. Talked to the wife and decided that I needed to recoup some of his summer hockey fees (600.00), and new skates (140.00) not drop more money.

Plus he usually craps out before the end of the game and I would not be happy having to waste that kind of money and leave early cause he passed out. Could have taken a few buddies, but between the his hockey stuff and my recent Habanos purchase I have dropped over a grand in the matter of 2 weeks. married with children, the good and bad.

OOO and Joel I already called the Flyers in your series. Whats interesting is their are some rumors over here the Sharks may go after Price. Was not to excited with what I saw. If the Flyers win again tonight it will be real bad for the Habs. What I find funny is that some fans turn into ghosts when their team loses. Some of us are front and center. Come on habs fans "step yo game up!" Of course if the Sharks get raped that bad it would be tough to show my face, but I would.

Honestly though Habs fans I dont even know if rape is a strong enough word to describe that game. Yeah I got my 5 gallon bucket of salt out and I am throwing it all around.

Niemi played a spectacular game.
It was nice to have no penalties for a playoff game but come on, the Sharks gotta capitalize on their Power Play oppertunities.

Some thoughts on the Sharks at this point.

* I really like coach Todd McLellan...I think he will raise the Cup before he is done.

* I gained a lot of respect for Douglas Murray. Not the most talented guy on the ice, but he gives 100% every shift....Zero quit in him.

* I lost a lot of respect for Joe Thornton....the slashes on Bolland's wrist, especially the one on the face off, were just bush league. If he breaks Bolland's wrist doing that, he needs to sit the rest of the playoffs. :2

Not a good moment for Big Joe. A little Bertuzzi rubbed off on him.

Never been a huge Sharks fan, but Patrick Marleau is classy. Rob Blake needs to retire.

Not sure what they can do to win in Chicago, except hope that the Hawks just lay down and let them win.

Crap. Well, Niemi looked great again. That dude is pretty awesome. Sharks had alot of chances in-close. Niemi was on. Hawks blocked way more shots from the point than the Sharks.
Nabbi's gotta get his game on. These goals from the point NEED to be blocked / saved. These are shots that cannot get by a goalie of his calliber. especially when there is only 1 or 2 guys in his zone and not much of a screen.
Sharks got alot of work ahead of them now.
Marleau is still having his best season ever but one man cant do it all.
Hawks sure as heck have shut down the Pavelski line.
I dont know what the hell Heatley is doing out there. He looks like he's skating around on Vicodin and a beer.

didn't see Thorton get stupid. Went to the gym early as it was easy to see the game was over.
agreed Patty is having a great year. Nabokov is Nabokov as usual. The series is likely over though lets be honest. While the Sharks didn't look as guttless as the Habs, they didn't look like a team that would do anything to win a cup.

Wish I knew why this team just never cares enough in the post season. Obviously if they don't win game 3 it will be over in 5.

I look for the best game of the series so far from the Sharks, Mike, the Hawks will have to play even better than they did in the first two to get a win Friday.

He is still playing hockey. While his old team has been working on their golf game for a while. I Dont hate him, but the knock on him seems to be accurate about not being clutch when it matters. Atleast he knew enough to know he was on a bad team and wanted to surround himself with better players to have a chance. As I said before his chances of raising the cup in San Jose are better then they would have been if he had stayed with the Sens.

Flyers got it handed to them tonight, but I expected the Habs to come out strong.

Some rough stuff at the end of the game, initiated by the Habs, but the Flyers ended up on the short end of a 5-3. No surprise as it is usually the retaliating team that gets the time, and it certainly didn't influence the outcome. I know the league was looking to crack down on end of the game rough stuff, but I'd be surprised if they took any further action.

The Hab fans sounded foolish to me booing and jeering the Flyers for the retaliation, but I'm guessing most didn't see the cheap shot on Briere.

The home crowd at the Bell Centre are annoying though when griping at every turn (more so than any other home crowd IMO --- in the East anyway), but I'm fine with it as they're just trying to influence the play and calls. Funny how you only notice it when you're pulling for the other team, as I thought the crowd was great playing the Pens! :r

Frustrating game, but I'm looking forward to a much better showing on Saturday.

As to the Habs Combination of backs against the well, an energized building, last line change. Guttcheck answered.

Too bad I dont see this occurring with the Sharks tomorrow. I think they may get swept right out of the building. They better find some damn heart tomorrow night or its clearly over. I am a little scared about the offseason. They have a big question in goal also. They are going to be buyers and may get bent over a barrel as everyone knows it. I doubt the resign nabby at 38.

James it could also be that his perspective and some of us outside the area see a franchise that has not been run well of late. Tearing through coaches and I think finally a gm also, players complaining, fighting amoungst the team players last year when he was there. The coach I thought went after him a little. All in all it seemed like a bad team to be on. Not totally player wise, but as a whole just not a good place to be. Seems like a lot of drama. The worse part was the drama was out there front and center for everyone to see. You should be happy though. I dont think this current Sharks Team will ever go all the way. The main guys just dont seem to have the heart. I dont think you would ever see Patty or Heater or Jumbo going out on the ice with a seperated shoulder selling out like no tomorrow to win the cup. Yeah thats comming from a Sharks fan and 12 year season ticket holder. They have some heart guys on the team, but its not the big three.

Tonight's game...another good effort by the Sharks. 45 shots again, Niemi was very good though. Marleau has been the best Shark on the ice all series so far.

What happened to the Sharks on the game winner? Looked like Nabby and his mates all fell asleep. I know it was a lucky no-look pass, but you can't let a guy just skate down the slot uncontested like that. Kind of a bitter pill after a pretty good game.

Jonathan Toews broke Stan Mikita's 48 year old record for consecutive playoff games with at least a point in each. Pretty nice company for Captain Serious.

OOO I dont mean the clutch factor. Just the captain morgan/ love me thing.

I enjoyed todays game a lot if you meant Micah's. Summer league games started today and they played some 4x4 cross ice. It was a beautiful thing to watch him today. He got 2 goals a post and contributed to a 3rd due to driving the net and shooting it on goal. At 4 He outskated the older bigger kids shielded the puck and one of the goals was a riser. He was wearing number 12 today. Kind of spooky given pattys recent history.

After every goal he just turned and skated away. He made a little eye contact with me and if I gave him a fist pump he did the same.

Glad to see the Flyers take the game today. That series is all but locked up also. This sets things for a very entertaining and possibly penalty filled cup series. Flyers are definetly going to bring the nasty.

I think the Sharks don't want to give any fodder to their critics about being a soft playoff team after their best playoff run ever. Was away this weekend, but certainly didn't miss the Flyers game Saturday. Hopefully they can wrap up the Eastern Conference at home tomorrow night.

I listened to most of the Hawks/Sharks game on the way home on XM. The Hawks radio guys are as big of homers as the Flyers TV guys! :r

Congrats to the Hawks for making the finals. Hopefully that's all of the congratulations headed their way this season. :)

And, FWIW, I have the same opinion of Byfuglien as Al. The first time he celebrated that way, I thought it was spontaneous and was fine with it. When he does it again and again, it tells me it's choreographed and he is showboating. Some may like it, but I do not...after the first time. Hopefully the Flyers will advance and Pronger gets the chance to matchup against him in the Finals.

Radio Homers are OK with me, even local affiliate, or regional FSN broadcasters being Homers is OK.

Its the national guys, like Pierre MacGuire and that fat guy...Milbury who piss me off. I know they sometimes have to play the part for their schtick, but I can't stand either of them.

Joe Benninatti too. I used to love Doc Emrich, but even he gets on my nerves now :)

Yes, spontaneous celebration is, and should be, part of the game. Over the top and scripted celebrations that become a shtick shouldn't be, IMO.

I watched the video you linked and only 4 or 5 seemed scripted or over the top. If, for example, Uwe Krupp did a backflip after scoring the Stanley Cup winning goal in 3OT, I'd have no problem with it. If he did it several times, or when it wasn't nearly as big, I would. Same reasons Chad "Ochocinco's" antics bother people. :2

But don't listen to me, all sorts of stupid stuff bugs me :r...I used to not like it when players wore non traditional numbers (99, 88, 87, 77, 68, 66, etc.). It has become so common place now it doesn't matter anymore, but when the trend first started I thought it was selfish in some weird way (probably just to me! :D)

First, congrats to San Jose for a great season, one step closer, pretty much like the Hawks were last year. Marleau was awesome, and McLelland is a class act all the way.

Duncan Keith loses 4 (or 7, depending on who you listen to) teeth after getting hit in the mouth with the puck...and misses maybe two shifts. Gotta love hockey players.

Dustin Byfuglien scores his third game winning goal of the series....a great story, I am happy for the kid.

hawks have been playing well, and im not one of those fans who say "We're gonna crush them they suck!" I know its hard to believe since im from philly, haha. I think it will be an evenly matched series, but with Lapierre back and if Leighton keeps playing the way he has been(and doesnt pull a Ron Hextall, and forget how to goal tend when it matters most) I think we can pull it through and bring the cup to philly. And if that does happen all i can say is I WILL BE DOWN ON BROAD STREET, BUT IM TAKING THE TRAIN. Dont want my car flipped over. :)

That my hurt more then seeing Cheli in the uniform. Again he has already said he wants to stay in San Jose and will take a discount because his wife is from here and they have kids now. Also he made a comment about being glad he was not the captain at one point during the season. Dont worry though you will see him 2x next year. The Wings do need some help though on that we can both agree. Much like the Sharks need a heart and a goalie. I cant see Nabokov comming back. Blake is gone also. Going to be interesting offseason for both teams. I dont see Patty going to the WIngs given the teams current state and the fact that he would be expected to lift the team to a higher level. He would also see if he cant it will be a middle of the pack team again. He doesnt like preasure like that.

Unreal. I could go back and quote myself earlier in this thread, but I am so surprised by this team. The Flyers really came together at the perfect time of the year. I hope it's a great series.

Richards played, what I think was, the best game I've ever seen him play...and I've seen him play A LOT of games. Even before he scored the shorthanded goal in the first period, he was flying around the ice and I knew he was going to have a good game. Giroux and Carter also shined tonight.

Wow, I am so surprised and so friggen stoked!

Richards shorthanded goal was something to see. Asham was playing possessed with the puck following him everywhere. Carter and Laperriere back and looking good. Flyers are a good team, and anyone annointing the Hawks as champs already need to wait and see how the first couple games play out. i think they are pretty evenly matched. especially with carter and gagne back. both teams have three great forward lines, both teams have great defenses. I think philly's D is more big and defensive where chicago's is more puck-rushing. I think philly has the edge in goal now that leighton is hot.

i don't believe vegas is putting chicago -260 without the juice. its an even matchup for me all the way around. And trying not to be biased as a flyers fan but i actually think the flyers have the edge. should be a great series though. my call philly in 6. go flyers.

I won't go so far as to predict the Flyers winning, as they are rightfully the underdog IMHO. But if I lived in Vegas, I would definitely place a series wager for the Flyers at better than 2-1 odds as their chances of winning are better than that, again IMHO.

And, I'm with Tom... Why the *$#* are they waiting until Saturday to start the series? I think the NHL would have been better served keeping hockey in the mind of the public by playing one game before the US's Holiday weekend. I think their ratings would have been better overall if they played Thursday/Saturday/Monday. They may have a lower rating for a Thursday game 1 than a Saturday game 1, but I think they would make up for it with a Saturday game 2 as it may do better than a Saturday game 1. .....let alone, the fans want hockey!

But, WTH do I know?

Wow...that's quite a statement. I admit to not seeing nearly as many Blackhawk games as Flyers games, but I can't imagine a player leading his team much better than Richards has recently. Power play, penalty kill (some say the best penalty killer in the NHL), even strength, defending teamates, checking, hitting...the list goes on. But, I'm sure it's a homer bias on both sides.

If I were picking a team for the future, I would certainly take the younger player. But that's not how I interpreted Tom's statement. And I just don't know if I would pick Richards over Toews...I haven't seen enough of Toews to judge. All I know is Richards is quite the leader.

I was listening to the local radio station (or maybe it was on Comcast Sports Net), and they mentioned how Richards, Carter, Sharp and Eager were all teammates on the Calder Cup winning Phantoms team back in '05. Other proven NHLers on that roster included RJ Umburger, D. Seidenberg, J. Pitkanen, and A. Niittymaki. Looking back, that was quite the impressive AHL squad! Full Roster Link. I guess I am in the exact opposite boat as you, Joel. I probably saw Richards in 3 or 4 regualr season games and a couple Olympic games...though I have seen all Philly's playoff games.

Toews is an amazing leader and has been from the start. He is the first one to call out others when efforts are lacking, which he can do both because he has their respect, and he gives 100% every game, every shift. The Hawks record with him in, and out, of the lineup the last two seasons reflect the impact he has on this group.

I have already stated that I like Richards as a player and as a captain. And I stand by my statement that I would take Toews tomorrow, hands down, over any current captain in the NHL. (insert homer bias smiley here). :)

And I called the hotel and confirmed they carried Versus and was offered to switch the 52" TV in the lobby to the game if I so desire! :D When I spoke to the woman she even offered to call the sports bar across the street to see if they were going to have the game on there. Thumbs up for customer service. :tu

I guess there's a chance I'll go to game 3 or 6 (if necessary), but we'll see. I hope to, but tickets are hard to come by at a somewhat reasonable price. Funny since, being not only a Flyer fan but a hockey fan, I was able to go to a Devils/Ducks game a few years back at the Devils old arena.

And as for Richards, I will say the only time he frustrates me is when he's coming off the ice he doesn't get to the bench as quickly as he should. Usually it's blamed on expending all of his energy on the shift and being exhausted coming back. That's about the only complaint I have for him.

My first Stanley Cup Play-offs in 14years (stateside). I am soooo pumped. Wish I could afford a ticket to a game up in Philly but at around 700 bills a seat I will sit at home and enjoy in HD. Not the same but best I can do. In any case I think this will be a memorable series and whoever wins will deserve to hoist Lord Stanley's cup.

LET'S GO HAWK'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be interesting. I really dont think enough analysts are giving the Flyers enough respect. They have some key players that could make this series very good against a young team like the Hawks. I still think they may be able to get in their heads. Game one will really go a long way to help me decide. I think the Hawks are deeper, but Hell Philly was my dark horse in Novemeber and I like the make up of the team.

Good luck to all guys with a dog in the hunt.

Lets get it on!

Wow really didnt like the way the last goal was scorred. The play should have been dead. The Hawks won and I am cool with that, but that game should have been OT bound. That was no where near a dominating performance and this thing could definetly go the distance. I hope we dont see any foolish statements in here, but if I was philly fan I would be a little bent that the refs blew that puck touching the player on the bench.

Things I noticed in this one were that the Flyers seemed unaffected by the Hawks speed. The counter punched well and played a good road game in the Hawks building. Both goalies were crap at times.

I don't watch hockey much at all, but I watched most of tonight's game.

It was a great game! I will have to watch them all.

I am rooting for Chicago.

What a crazy game. 11 goals scored tonight. That's the most I've seen in a Final series in a long, long time.

Go Hawks!

I'm

Doesn't the game start soon? And you're off to work?

I was getting off work. ;)

Ugly win....Hawks didn't really deserve it. Flyers outplayed them in the first 2 periods.

Both goalies were hung out to dry on most of the goals, some real shoddy defense on both ends. I look for both teams to tighten it WAY up Monday.

Toews V. Richards....Richards was better tonight.

Pronger V. Byfuglien.....Buff held pointless.

The role players came through big for both teams. Asham and Hartnell were great for Philly. Kopecky, Brouwer, Bolland and Hossa were big for the Hawks.

Gonna be quite a series, me thinks.

Terrible D by the Hawks tonight, on one of the goals there were FIVE Hawks standing in front of the net and the puck went out to an uncovered Flyer. Need to tighten up on that D! Grateful for the win though!

Both teams seemed to be playing sloppy. Especially the defense. And them pulling leighton was bs IMHO. But no matter what I'm still wearing my flyers jersey today.

Leighton seemed to be fighting the puck all night and didn't seem very confident. And like Niemi, the players in front of him weren't giving him much help.

Pierre LeBrun blog on ESPN questions whether Nik Lidstrom will be back next year. He ends that section with this:

Aside from Lidstrom, the Wings are also talking to both camps for Tomas Holmstrom and Todd Bertuzzi and want to try to bring them both back. They're both UFAs, as well.

Question for the Wings fans.......WHY??? :r :r

What a crazy game last night...who would have guessed 11 goals? Pronger seemed to do a great job against Butthead. Unfortunately there were many lapses by other players. Hopefully Leighton can rebound as I believe the Flyers best chance is with him in net.

My fingers are too big for long posts on a mobile so I'll leave it at GO FLYERS!!!! :)

Word on NHL on XM today was that they were going to go with Boucher, but you know how BS tends to fly this time of year.

Pronger and Co. shut down the whole top line for the Hawks, though I think if another referee besides McCreary was in there, Pronger would have made a couple trips to the box.

I look for Niemi to have his typical bounceback after a rough game, and give up far fewer than 5 tomorrow.

They have to put a team together.
What scares me is now Patty is looking like he is going to test the market. The Wings are going to be desperate it looks to sign some players. Just may see some sharks with the red jersey on. To funny if D has to buy talent from SJ.

Maybe if Marleau signs with the Wings, Berschmoozi can sign with the Sharks.:)

fantastic game. glad they are starting leighton tonight, that last goal of the game by boucher which was game winner was really soft and showed his rustiness. philly also looked a bit tired at the end.

wish carcillo was playing they need him now for two reasons. his rough and tumble style, and he could play right wing on the first line, freeing up the former 50 goal scorer Carter to play the third line. right now with carter playing the right wing they have a fantastic first line but hurts their third line. The first line of gagne-richards-carter is great but playing in chicago, keith and seabrook matched up against them every time and shut them down. hope they can break through this game.

buff should not be as much as a factor as he was against san jose, with pronger and coburn on two seperate defense pairings being able to handle him.

will be a good one either way tonight. go flyers.

Sounds like Carcillo is going to play tonight, and thankfully they're sitting Parent for Bartulus. About an hour 'til faceoff...just got home and will thankfully get to watch this one on my big screen!

The first period was the best period of hockey of the finals so far, IMHO. I agree with Milbury, the call on Betts was crap.

So far, I like Carcillo's addition to the lineup, I will continue to so long as he doesn't do anything stupid. The Hawks seem to be begging the refs for calls, which I like as a Flyers fan as long as the refs call the game and not the whining.

Ugh...what a crappy last 5 minutes of the 2nd period. First a terrible defensive play by Krajicek, then a weak goal given up by Leighton. Bartulis has looked tons better than Parent...playing like a solid 5th defenseman.

The Flyers are still doing a good job against Toews, Kane and Butthead, but they need to do a better job against Hossa...he's been the best Hawk forward (offensively), IMO. And, I have to give the Hawks defensemen credit, they are a solid group.

Another good game by both teams...Eager comes back to bite the hand that drafted him. Better play by both goalies and both defenses. Happy the Hawks came out on top. Off to Philly to hear some Kate Smith and play some more good hockey.

Have the flyers been called for a penalty yet? I know they commit about 1 every 2 or 3 minutes, but nothing gets called. I missed most of periods 1 and 2 tonight so maybe they actually got called for something?

Philly is Detroit this year it seems.

Seemed to be a better game by both teams, at least defensively. That 2nd goal by Eager looked pretty weak, IDK if the goalie was screened slightly or not. The Hawks seemed to hang on for this one, I did not like their play in the 3rd.

But being up 2-0, I can't complain!

It was actually a pretty wicked wrister that Eager put right past the D-man's foot, so I doubt Leighton got much of a look at it. Went past his ear, Eager has a better shot than people think.

Leighton on Eager's goal:

"He used the D as a screen and made a good shot," Leighton said. "I didn't see him release the puck. I saw it when it went through my D-man. I'm not saying he's an Alex Ovechkin, but that's how [the Caps captain] scored a lot of his goals -- he drags it and then uses the D as a screen."
