I'm in the market for some beads.
I have located the bead calculator for the total amount of beads needed. Just wondering How people spread them out in this humi? ![]() All on the bottom? 1/2 pound each shelf? Tube in each drawer? Do you use mesh Bags, Plastic trays? I appreciate the help.

I would say the more evenly distributed the beads are the better, no? Experiment with placement until every shelf/drawer reads what you like. Look into adding fans too if you can't keep the desired RH in all areas. This will help move the air around a bit.
I personally use mesh bags, but I don't have experience with this particular humi, or one even close to that size!! I believe the way you store them is really up to you and what you prefer. The only thing you are looking to do is maximize surface area of the beads. |

Distributed about in mesh bags would probably be best.

what do you plan to use for air circulation?
I'd recommend a distributed approach with mesh bags (more surface area). I'd put at least a small amount in each drawer (but not each compartment of each drawer) just as a precaution. The two big things you want to consider are:

I have a Hydra LG inside now I was considering getting the fan kit for it, But wasn't sure if it would work with beads or just screw them up.

Keep in mind that air with a higher RH% (more humid) will rise. I take advantage of that by storing cigars I want a little dryer at the bottom. I have a similarly shaped humidor and have three hygos, one bottom, one mid and one top. A couple Oust fans would keep it a little more uniform if that is what you are going for.
Just season it up really well and throw the sticks in. You will figure out how many beads where once it settles down.

No it will not screw them up as already noted. A hydra doesn't have to have the water tank attached, or even the main body used. I use the hydra power supply to run fans inside my edgestar. It just runs them 24/7 but hydra fans are really just cheap 2 wire computer fans that I pick up at Fry's. They are always chinese and some have gone for a month and died others are still running years later.

Get a can of 3M Super77+ spray glue, spray the walls of the humidor and then apply the beads evenly in a nice smooth coat with a bondo spreader. Even humidification throughout. |

In your application how should I moisten them? Water pistol or garden hose?

I have the identical humi. I use 8 ounce bags on each shelf and a cigar oasis on the very bottom portion. Works like a champ. I have a few small bead tubes in some of the drawers. I use the heartfelt style beads in mesh bags and spray them with distilled water from a spray bottle. This setup works awesome.

I have that same cabinet, with 2lbs of Shilala's beads in it. I have a bag on each shelf, one in behind the drawers and a couple extra spread about on the shelves. I used to have a Humi-care XG1000 in the bottom, but it became pointless after moving the cab into the basement. It holds a rock steady 68-69% now. With XG1000, it was over humidifying the cabinet.
As for fans, I haven't bothered. I open the door at least once a day to grab a cigar. That's my air circulation. ![]()

Large Hydra located on the bottom and 1/2 - 1 lb of RH Beads on each shelf. Works like a charm in most environments but may vary depending on your ambient RH and how often you open and close your cabinet or add/remove cigars. I hope this helps. ~Mark |
