I think this one is a case of an existing company that provides travel booking services to businesses wanting to get into the mass market travel booking and compete with orbitz, travelocity, priceline, etc.

Think about it, they have an advertising budget. They could buy TV ads, internet ads, etc, but they'd risk whether or not people would actually go to their site. They do this and bam, they are the talk of the internet for a few weeks. The risk for them is whether or not it'll stick and people will actually search them, and use them after the promotion is over. Very affective advertising.
