Seems like Gurkhas are an ongoing joke here. Is this true? are they just bad cigars in general?

I haven't had one that was worth purchasing yet. Not all are bad but none I have had are good either. I believe Mac has located the extremely rare Gurkha that tastes good, might just be a rumor. They also have a bad reputation with over pricing their MSRP making a normal price of a cigar look like a sale. That being said, they do an amazing job with their packaging. I am still gonna try the cellar reserve (I think that's the name) to see if there is any hope for me and this brand. These are only my opinions, don't take my word for it, try them and make up your mind.

I fell for the spec ops packaging...free knife, travel humidor, etc... Cigars are great...for giving to my brothers in law. I do, however, love the 30 ct. travel humidor they came in. Use it almost everyday but no Gurkha's in there.

Matt I did too, I love my yellow travel humi! I look at it this way the case is worth $49 the cool blade is worth probably $69-89 so it got the sticks almost 4 free and got 10 pack sampler! Oh ya don't forget the gold dabloom!
