Maybe try an English Blend. I started out smoking aromatics, and they always smelled good but the smoke was thin... or very mild.

Taking a smaller draw, very small light puffs, and smoking slower may help you pick up more flavor. The pipe is different from a cigar (IMO) in the sense that your smoking technique can make a BIG difference in a tobaccos flavor.
