Picked up my 3rd rescue this past Saturday.

Her previous family kept her in their backyard. Didn't treat her like a member of the family. On July 4th of this year, during fireworks, she got spooked and broke out of the backyard. She was later hit by a car trying to cross Nasa Rd 1. The family said it would be too expensive for surgery, and they were going to put her down. Her foster mom and dad intervened (neighbors) and took guardianship of her. They paid for her surgery (with help from the internet) and have fostered her for about 2 months. They can't keep her due to the rental property not allowing more than 2 dogs in the residence. And they already have 3.

Heading into surgery to have screws put in her back leg. For the record, the vet techs gave her the custom cast due to her sweet disposition.

This is "Silverster". I am not much of a cat person, but he wondered over from the new neighbors a few months ago. They moved out and I basically adopted him. He is about a year or so old and pretty laid back. He sits on my armrest of my chair while I smoke and watches tv with me. My daughter loves him and he is great around her. He is a great mouser and that's why I don't mind him sticking around.

Sadly, I don't. Last night, while letting the dogs mingle for a bit, she clamped on to Munch and wouldn't let go. Took me 2 minutes and a Zebra pen to open her jaws enough to free him.

Took him to the vet with 2 minor puncture wounds. Stapled him up and gave him the cone of shame…along with some pain killers.

I was bleeding more than him. Her foster parents picked her up late last night. I don't blame Princess. I blame her past owners. She's had a rough life, and it shows in her interactions with other animals. I tried everything I could to get her to blend with the house. She was fine with me and Finn…and anyone I brought over to the house. For some reason, her and Munch never meshed…and it showed. No sooner was my hand off of her collar after letting her out of her crate, that she was on him.

Bit of a rough night. :(

Wow, tough luck on the rescue Scotty. We tried a rescue Pittbull and after four years and thousands spent on animal behavioralists we had to put her down in Sept. after attacking another dog.

On a brighter note, just got our newest addition to the family! This is Robin, a German/ Australian Shepherd mix.

Meet Dug -- a Miniature Poodle / Havanese mix. He was rescued from the Los Angeles County Animal Shelter days before he was scheduled to be euthanized.

We got him last night and had him immediately groomed (shaved) because his fur was long and matted. So far (after 15 hours) he seems to be doing well and my wife and I are very happy. He is named after Dug in the movie Up :)

That is pretty funny. Our Shepherd/Border Collie mix had ears that flopped over. Sad thing is that since we got him fixed they have stood up non stop. Makes me feel kind of guilty....

My Baby Wizard. He came to live with us around 2001. Now the poor baby has heart failure, but his meds seem to be holding the problem at bay for now. Lately, though, he's been stressing out at having to take his pills and oral liquid, and having a kind of mini-siezure sometimes when given them. Steve - like the brindle as well -like the markings of your best friend there.

We decided to go with the fawn as we saw both the mom and dad and they were great dogs and trusted the breeder from our conversations. Besides. Look into those eyes and say you don't just adore her!

She was the quietest one of the litter - though that does not say anything yet.

My dads lab was the same way and same with my friends - they both got too comfortable and spoiled and turned into nut balls... Still miss my dads lab - best dog you could have asked for.

In any case - this will be the first dog I have owned outside of growing up and looking forward to it! Will have an updated picture when we get her home!

Thanks Jeff. Riley's mom was a fawn and his dad was a brindle. I knew Riley's mom from fishing with her "dad". She was probably the calmest boxer I have ever seen. My buddy bred her with a sire (winner of some shows) from the kennel that she came from, so we knew we were getting a great dog. We met Riley the day he first opened his eyes, and yes, who could resist!

He is definitely my buddy. I hope you have as great of a relationship with her as we have with Riley! Just remember Boxers take a LOT of time. You have to exercise their mind as well as their body. A bored boxer is a scary thing. Left to their own, they WILL find a way to entertain themselves, like chewing through a wall or eating a couch. I have heard a lot of horror stories of boxers that were left alone all day and then ignored when the family got home from work. Riley usually gets at least a couple of miles a night. It actually works out pretty well; he gets to check the neighborhood pee-mail, and I get to smoke a cigar :ss

Enjoy the ride and I look forward to seeing more "family" pictures.

I had to put my Bubba down today. Words literally cannot express the hollow, empty feeling I have. It's just as bad as my Divorce. It's funny how people say, "Rescue a Dog, save one instead of going to a breeder." It's funny how life works out, because we really saved each other. We adopted him when no one else wanted him, and he got me through my divorce. I've never cried so hard at losing a Pet, because he was so much more than a Pet. He was my best friend. When I went upstairs to take him to the Vet, he was standing at the top of the stairs waiting for me. He knew it was time. Love you Echo. I'll miss you my friend. Took this after I got him a cone from Dairy Queen, before the Vet today.

Here are some of our dog Blanca. She's an eight-year old yellow lab & pointer mix. We rescued her about four and a half years ago. She'd had a bit of a rough life before she was put in the shelter and if she didn't suffer outright physical abuse she definitely was neglected. But she's an utter sweetheart and is our four-legged kid. :D

Tough day yesterday. Had to say good-bye to my pup after she lost her fight with cancer. She and I spent many early mornings by the fire with coffee and a cigar, just the two of us, and I had remarked many times on those occasions that there was no place I'd rather be. Like I said, tough tough day, but she's at peace now.

My best bud/co-worker/best cigar friend left us this morning after 13 amazing and blessed years full of love I never could have imagined.

It was an extremely hard decision to make, but it had to be made and I am sure it was the correct one. Riley had been suffering from a condition similar to ALS for the past 4 or 5 years; mainly his back left leg would sometimes quiver uncontrollably. Over the past year, especially the last six months he had gotten to where he couldn't control either of his back legs when he walked and had a tough time getting up and laying/sitting down. Basically, he just didn't have the strength to go on.

Boo was able to spend a lot of time with him this week, and Lu and I sat out with him the last couple of nights on the deck, me with a cigar and bourbon and him with a fresh bone. Last night we took a short walk even.

Lu, Boo and I were with him to the end, and are better for what that little man brought into our lives. The thing that probably helps the most is knowing that now he's with Holly. He was so confused, for the longest time, when the ambulance took Holly away and then she never came back.

James, I grew up with dogs. Always considered myself a dog person. But after spending time with my friends cats a while back, I thought maybe I could be a cat person. My two are quite the pair. Totally different personalities. I get the whole allergic thing. Before I adopted Aly, I spent time with her to see how I’d react. Luckily no reaction.

The newest addition to the family, Millie. She's around 3-4 months. Best guess from the vet and from research is she's a mix of Staffordshire Terrier, and possibly some Lab or Pit. Steph's going to do a DNA test to find out.

We were glad to give her a good home. A friend of our neighbor had a pregnant stray wander on to her land and give birth. She couldn't afford to keep all the puppies, so our neighbor took Millie as a favor. But she's working and going to school at the same time and just couldn't give her the care and attention a puppy needs. So we took her in.
