Posting up my EDC. Have tried a few different pistols, but keep coming back to this Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 40. I use the MagGuts magazine extender, so the flush magazine holds seven instead of six, plus one in the chamber. 8 rounds of .40 s&w plus an 8 round spare gives me a lot of peace of mind. Displayed with one of my carry methods, my DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster.

Waiting on a new rifle to be paid off so I look at other stuff in the mean time. Anyone looked at or own one of these new Life Cards? Interesting little pistol. Also these CMR-30's look interesting as well. The PMR is the pistol but I like the looks and idea of the CMR which is the carbine 30rd .22 WMR. What's your :2

My woods gun got some street duds...

http://oldchurchbbq.com/sharedpictures/Rigs/G20's%20Casual%20Duds.jpg

Out in the woods I have a Sherpa OWB that I carry the 10mm in, but it's not exactly a concealable combination for going into town after the hunt. Surprisingly, this IWB is actually pretty comfortable and conceals pretty good considering the size of this guy.

dijit

Depends on how you want to carry it Michael.

Kydex are great but in my opinion not too comfortable against the skin.
Bianchi has a pretty nice inside the waist band clip on

I'm actually considering a shoulder holster but cant decide which one. Since I am usually wearing my shirt tucked in I don't think I could conceal it in my waist.

I have an inside the waist bianchi for my Makarov that lets it sit low enough its barely visible. Yes this impedes my draw speed but concealabilty is great. My XDM I just ordered an Alienware that will let my laser fit in it too.

How does that holster attach to the belt? I'm usually a fan of loops with snaps rather than many of the talon shaped clips used by most holster makers.

It has a belt clip on the other side, not loops. The side that is facing up goes against the body. Personally I prefer the belt clip for the ease/quickness of removing it. I believe one of RDR's options are snap loops though.

Okay. Some of those clips are pretty positive, and hold up well. Naturally, width/thickness of your belt plays a part too.

I have several of their holsters, each with the clip and haven't had any issues with the clip itself.

[Full disclosure, I do not have any direct connection to this company. Remo turned me onto them a couple of years ago and I have been a satisfied customer with several purchases.]

Swapped off an "extra" AR-15 at the show this weekend, for a barely used Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm pistol, the full size version. S&W claimed that all the 2.0's have better triggers than the originals. (I sort of think they're fudging a bit there.)

Well, this one I bought, they definitely got the internals right on it. Darn near as good as installing an Apex kit.

The last month or so S&W or their distributors must have offered some great rebates on the J-frame five shot .38 special revolvers. Was able to get a model 442 for $340 out the door, taxes included last week. No external key lock on these, even better.

I've been working with a Ruger LCR since finding one in the used section of a local store for a good price. It has a Trijicon tritium front sight. Finding a Galco holster for it in the zipper pouch the gun came in made the sale a no-brainer. (Thanks, mystery former owner!)

Being a semi-auto toter for many years now, it's a bit odd carrying a snob nose, five shot revolver as a primary gun. So...there's also a snub nose S&W model 637 in my weak side front pocket. Belt pouch holds two HKS speed loaders.

I guess 20 rounds of .38 special +P is enough overall capacity.

Just an fyi: If you want a first generation M&P pistol, now's a good time to look. S&W is cranking out the "improved" version 2.0 of all models, some dealers are doing a clearance of the originals to make room.

Finally broke down and bought a Glock. Have shot and carried 1911 and 2011s for years. In 3 Gun competition, you set the safety, drop the pistol in a bucket, and move on to other guns. But if a 1911 safety gets bumped off....DQ. No thumb safety to worry about with the Glock.

If your into firearms, and want to spend the weekend in the Disneyland of Gun Shows, may I suggest The Cross Roads of the West - Small Arms Review Show.

This years dates are November 30th. - December 2, 2018. It will be at the Arizona State Fair Grounds - Phoenix AZ.

Honeslty if you come you can not see everything in a day, but you get a wrist band for all three days, the only negative is parking at about $10.00/day.

The display are awesome, machine guns historic military stuff, and about anything you could wish for.

FYI

Yes Crossroads of the West Gun Shows has a web-site, Google will find it for you.

Just picked up a Walther PPQ (M1) 9mm yesterday. Low miles used, previous owner had put Trijicon HD sights on it, and there were 4 magazines in the box. It pays to at least consider buying pre-owned, if you know how to look over a gun before plunking down the money.

Probably have to wait until tomorrow to give it a spin. Really a sweet trigger on this thing!

Picked up a lightly used Walther PPQ this week. The store let me do a five round test fire with their range ammo before purchase. Shot a 3/4" group at 25 feet with the dang thing. I am incapable of doing better than that with ANY handgun. SOLD!

Had a warmer day this past Wednesday so I made it out to the range. Our range looks pretty rough after a long winter of nobody repairing things around there. Looking forward to some good time on the bench.

Anybody got anything new?

I like shopping in the used gun market. For the last couple years or so, pre-owned .40S&W caliber handguns have dropped to bargain barn prices. Last Saturday in a private sale, picked up a Glock model 22 in really nice shape for $300. Late Gen3 with RTF-2 exterior. A grip frame plug and extended slide release had already been installed.

Couple shops around here have all but stopped stocking new handguns in .40. Hardly anyone wants 'em.

Thats a smoking deal on the model 22.

Good deal on the model 22 and I find it funny how the prices have changed on .40 cals in the last 2 years. Seems the lip service shooters all wanted them and then found out the extra stopping power comes with a little more recoil. I personally like a metal frame .40 better than polymer, but both are fun for the true hobbyist/shootist.

Brian D.
04-21-2019, 08:55 AM
I reload, so "tailoring" my practice ammo to recoil a little less isn't a problem. I had divested myself of .40 caliber handguns (except for the Browning Hi Power, all steel) a few years back. Passed up several good deals on used Glocks, S&Ws, etc. in .40 since then. This model 22 was just a "can't get hurt financially" thing. So far it shoots fine, just a little jumpier than its 9mm counterpart. Nature of the beast.

Well dang did I kill this long running thread, or am I the one keeping it alive? Oh well here's another snort of narcan to keep it going..

Any of you have any of the Canik 9mm handguns? I've waded into the brand in the last few months. Most everything about them seems fine, especially the price point. Only one complaint about them from me: They are set up with very stiff recoil springs. Apparently they are designed to be fed 124 grain "Nato" ammo, which is +P. Or any other +P stuff. The spring will soften up after a few hundred rounds of shooting. But if you use standard pressure ammunition for break in, you'll have some malfunctions (stovepipes) to contend with.

I'm not 100% sure what is or isn't Ma compliant yet. There's a range close by that rent by the caliber. $25 plus ammo and I can try them all. I LEO friend recommended I try all the 9mm

8lug, that sounds like a good plan, seriously. For that $25, yeah, try out the brands and models that feel best in your hands. Also, 9mm is the right caliber to try first, easier to shoot and less expensive to "feed". Plus, with the hotter self defense ammo, it's very capable of doing its job.

I think it's both. It was a caliber that never really caught on with the general public and apparently a lot of police departments are recycling them now.

I remember when the .40 came out and wondering why?

I remember when the .40 came out and wondering why?

As you probably remember, a big ballistics study was done by the Justice Dept./FBI after that shootout in Miami that left four of their agents dead, and others wounded. (Do I have those numbers right?) Didn't matter that there were tactical and operational problems at fault too, they blamed the 9mm and .38/.357 guns and ammo.

End result, they decided that the 10mm was the new go to. Then re-decided that the round was too long, and full powered loads, too powerful. Hence, the .40 S&W became the new king.

The rest of the story has been laid out already, I'm feeling like a windbag at this point, sorry.

Yeah, I remember it was primarily the FBI that pushed the .40. Now that they've abandoned it and gone back to the 9mm, other agencies are apparently following their lead so you can pick up used trade-ins on the cheap right now.

I recently added a red dot to a 686+ and took it out last week to sight it in. First time I've fired off a rest in many years. Beautiful day out in the desert and once I dialed the sight in it shot a ragged hole. I've used optical scopes on handguns in the past but this was my first experience with a red dot. I think it'll help my aging eyes.

This shooting spot is a half hour from my driveway. It's actually up on a hill overlooking a valley and you need a Jeep or other high clearance vehicle to get to it. There are a number of easily accessible shooting spots down below on the valley floor as well (all of which were occupied the day we were there) but I prefer the safety/privacy this spot affords.

Over the last few years I've gotten rid of everything I don't shoot or had an emotional attachment to. Stuff I'd accumulated over the last forty years but had lost interest in. Or things I'd acquired because they were a deal. Or guns I wasn't sure why I'd picked up in the first place.

And since it freed up some cash, I also picked up a couple I'd had my eye on. So when all was said and done the downsized collection was where I wanted it, with one exception.

I scratched that last itch last week and picked up a S&W 627 V-Comp. Pretty sure I'm done now. Probably. :D

Been on a kick for .22 LR handguns lately. Possibly because that's the ammo I'm least likely to need more of any time soon. Anyway, picked up a Glock model 44 this morning, from a store/range in the area. Like most such places, they gave me a free hour of range time with firearm purchase. That gave me a chance to try it out, because I thought ahead and brought 50 rounds along just in case. Not sure they'd have been able to sell me any, as they were totally out of most all common calibers.

Gotta love it...a few days AFTER I order some ammo from MidwayUSA and on the day my order is delivered, I get an email that free shipping is back. Argh! :gary

Sold everything I "wanted" to sell, didn't realize I sold my only G17, now I want one again :sl Wife had a :emo2004 moment when I cleaned out the safe can't blame her I've been bringing random stuff home ever since working at a gun shop. At least the money is going to home improvements. What almost gave me a heart attack was the "what else can you sell, transformers, cigars?" Sadly I'll probably be selling my toys next.

I can probably get some good coin for my 220ST and 226ST but I just can't seem to part with those.

Hi. Over the weekend I sold off an AR-15 that was bought as investment, back when prices bottomed out. Made some profit for sure, reinvested in an AR-10 in .308. Original owner never fired it, had buyer's remorse I guess, or maybe wanted to free up some money.

I had a chance to fire it at 50 yards, windage was fine but needed a little elevation adjustment. It's a hoot!

I’m really tempted to go behind my wife’s back this week and buy a Ruger 57. Anyone own one (or an FN 57 ?) let me know your thoughts? Thoughts of the round ect. I found one from a vendor that did gouge the price to $875 due to limited supply and extreme demand but with the election and seeing on the aftermarket they can be up to $950 Any insight is appreciated!

for sure an interesting round with little recoil. I can never get past the cost of ammo though.

My brother has been drooling for one for some time now, but the pricey ass ammo really makes him steer away from it. Then again all ammo is pricey as hell right now.

I am paying $1 per round on .300 AAC BLK.

Last week at the range it was

Around $35 for 80 rds of .223
Around $80 for 80 rds of .300 blk
Around $8 for 200 rds of .22LR

It adds up quick.

I just went ahead and did last Sunday. I was wrong about Price of gun it was $799 out the door (transfer fee tax included ect) but you’re not lying about the rounds. Whole gun show was sold out, granted it was the last day. Found a local shop that has them in stock $50 for a 50rd box of FMJ $60 for 50rd box of FN blue tips.

Things have gotten so overpriced and/or hard to find that in the last few weeks I've become a seller instead of buyer when going to stores, and especially shows.

Recently I was lucky to be able to pick up a Ruger 57 and a Sig P320 M17 in 9mm at early 2020 pricing!I was even able to find some 5.7 ammo, though not too much.

Ordered a Glock 45 Gen 5 yesterday. We will see if I actually get it because they have changed the Blue Label deal and disallowed EMTs and Paramedics.

That's a bummer.

I didn't get it because I no longer qualify. I wound up getting a Glock 17 Gen 5 from another place for not too bad a price.

I picked up a Glock 43X not long after the G17 Gen 5. Great little gun. It has a 10 round magazine but I have ordered these nifty magazines made by Checkmate that is the same flush fit as the 10 but hold 15 rounds. We will see how it goes. Plus both of the Glocks have Ameriglo night sights. First nightsights I have eve had, but will never buy another handgun without them.

Even though retired I still have a fire department photo ID. Would I still qualify for the blue label program?

Yessir you would as long as they don't check into it. I don't think they would, but technically you are supposed to be active to get it. They took Paramedics and EMTs off the list not too long ago, but after the outcry they put them back on. For anyone that doesn't have the credentials you can join the GSSF and get a pistol purchase coupon for every year you are a member, but the price list is a little bit more than blue label. Since I didn't qualify when I bought mine I did the GSSF and got the coupon. I think it saved me about 50 or 60 bucks instead of $100.

Thanks for the information. I was at a Blue Label dealer this week and saw those good prices. Don't happen to be in the market right now but maybe soon.

So, I came across a deal I couldn’t pass up, was able to get two unfired SigSauers the other day. P938 9mm and a P238 .380. This belonged to an elderly gentleman who passed away, and I was able to get them from the family.

This thread kind of died off. Not doing much buying myself, the last couple years. My latest acquisition is a Walther PDP 4" 9mm. Added some tritium sights--PDP platform works with sights made for the Glock 9mm/.40 caliber guns, so lots of options out there.

Thoroughly vetted the blaster and am carrying it lately.

Haven't posted in a while myself nor bought anything lately. Glock now had a Gen 5 Glock 21 MOS 45 auto, thinking seriously about buying one if I can find one in stock anywhere.
