Don't worry Tom, I'm not counting any eggs right now.. I didn't think we were gonna win back in 2005 until we actually did.. even though we dominated every team we faced in the end. I'm a little pessimistic with the Sox. I'm just happy we have done as well as we have... We were picked by many to be the worst in the Central. I think if the Sox can snag a starter, they we at least put themselves in the running.

I know a bunch of teams are in the hunt for either guy, including the Sox.. My brother in law is a cubbie fan and seems to think they are looking to trade away either starter as a package though.

Fielder was standing at 1st base tonight (during the Tigers-Angels game) next to Albert Pujols. The ESPN guy pointed out that the contracts the two of them signed this off-season were collectively worth over HALF A BILLION DOLLARS!
I remember my jaw dropping when Pete Rose signed for a million a year. Holy shikey.

Confirmed: Ichiro to the Yanks!
The veteran outfielder will likely help to fill the role of Brett Gardner, who will miss the rest of the season with an elbow injury. Raul Ibanez and Andrew Jones have played left field in his absence.
Ichiro, the 2001 AL MVP in his first season in America, made 10 straight All-Star teams from 2001 to 2010. He is a free agent after the season.
But Ichiro has struggled this season. He is hitting only .261 with a .288 on-base percentage. It seems likely that he would be part of a platoon in left field. The Yankees may be hoping that playing in New York for a title contender will rejuvenate Ichiro.
The Yankees and Mariners play a three-game series in Seattle starting tonight. It’s unclear whether Ichiro will make his debut this evening, but it would seem likely his first game with the Yankees will come in Seattle.

Was reading about this proposed trade by ESPN.
Trade No. 1: Miami Marlins third baseman Hanley Ramirez, starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez and second baseman Omar Infante to Detroit Tigers for third baseman Nick Castellanos, starting pitcher Jacob Turner and outfielder Delmon Young.
That would have been amazing...
Then read Tigers traded Turner for Infante and Sanchez :hm Infante gives us someone reliable at 2nd and Sanchez will shore up our starting rotation. He's a big strikeout guy so I think he'll fit in quite well. Although he has never pitched in the AL which makes me nervous. Now we'll have to wait and see what happens with the roster since the Tigers are taking on 2 major league players, and Dirks should be coming back soon as well.

Dempster has still not approved the trade to the Braves.
The deal the Tigers did is just fine with me fwiw. While Infante is a very nice upgrade for their infield, Sanchez is inconsistent, so he's a bit of a wild card it seems. Does it make the Tigers better able to compete? Yeah for sure. But I still can't believe the kitties gave up thier best pitching prospect in Turner, a Top 20 MLB pospect. Half a season of Sanchez over 6 or more from Turner? I like this deal as a Sox fan. I guess you can make sense of this as the Tigers owner.. He wants a WS before he dies I guess. Make the moves that will help you win NOW, money/long term team building no object. This deal will boil down to Sanchez performing. While I said he's inconsistent, which he is, he also has NOT been seen in the AL so this could prove trouble for hitters..
Will Kenny make another move for the Sox? My guess is yes. In Kenny We Trust!!

If Dempster does go to the Braves, will it sit well with their management that he's denying that any trade has even been discussed? It's almost as if he's calling the Braves liars (or perhaps someone did falsely report it)...:hm
Nevermind...
He has yet to veto the trade, but has expressed great interest in joining the Dodgers. I guess he's holding out for as long as he can.

To be honest I don't think Turner is going to be the player we all hoped. He was in spring training and couldn't beat Smyly for the 5th spot. Worse yet, he was bad and had what was described as a "dead arm". He lost his velocity and struggled to locate his fastball in both the minors and his starts in the bigs. Thank God he pulled it together in his last start as a Tiger to help us move him. Because Sanchez is not signed, the Tigers also swapped pics with Miami moving up a round or two next year to help offset the fact Sanchez could be a rental. In addition, if he does not re-sign, the Tigers are supposed to get another pick of some kind. At least that's what I read.
Current stats combined for the Tigers at 2B, .175 BA, sub .200 OBP, etc. Infante is hitting .287, with an OBP over .310 I believe. Big upgrade offensively and defensively compared to K-Burn I mean Raburn. I hope both Sanchez and Infante work out and that we're able to re-up with Sanchez.

Uhh, as much as I would like to give credit to the sox... this team has been shut down by everyone in July. Crazy how bad the offense has been. No idea how we have put together wins.
Josh Hamilton is so lost right now. Last night was the best I have seen him this month and he didn't even have a hit. As bad as he has been, Michael Young is right there with him. Of Course, Michael Young isn't in a slump... he is just done. Done!!!

They did. In fact, we play the Tigers like we play the Royals. Hopefully they can turn it around. I think we play the Tigers 6 more times this year, and the Royals 6 more times. 12 games that will decide the Central I think.

Looks like this is a done deal!
Though not officially announced, reports have Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, and Nick Punto on a plane, in the air, and on the way to LA!
There were some grumblings a few weeks ago that Valentine would be fired after this season.
I think this deal seals him coming back.
The Sox are calling it a move about "Payroll Flexibility", to me this move is to clearly indicate to the team "Who's the boss".
The answer is clearly Bobby V and not Ben Cherrington! :2

Some interesting numbers that concern Tiger and Sox fans:
Since heading into Detroit on July 20 for the first sweep:
The Sox have gone 31-26
Record vs. Detroit: 2-8 (lost six games in standings)
Record vs. KC: 3-9
Record against all others: 26-9
Games left vs. KC and Det: 0
The Tigers have gone 30-26
Record vs. the Sox: 8-2 (picked up 6 games in standings)
Record against all others: 22-24
Games left vs. Sox: 0
On paper, it looks good for the White Sox. However, the game isn't played on paper right??
This was posted yesterday:
"The Tigers are now what they have been all year: Good starting pitching, a few fat guys who hit the ball well, and cripplingly horrible defense."
Ask me what I think and I'll tell you that I'm starting to remember 2003. I've said it all year, but I still think whoever wins this AL Central race will win by a very small margin, 1 or 2 games at most. I'm glad to at least be worried about winning the damn thing, after all the Sox were picked to lose 90+ games this season and finish last. I'll take this over already thinking about next year. As always, once the post season teams are locked, it's up for grabs by any team.

In 2006, the Tigers lead or were tied for the lead in the division from May 20th until the last day of the season. They lost their last five at home to finish one game behind the Twins.
In 2009, the Tigers lead the division by three games with four to play, blew it to finish in a tie with the Twins and lost the one game playoff.

I guess that's a matter of opinion, but to me the only thing which makes the Central "more exciting" is the fact that you either win the division or go golfing, as there will be NO wildcard for the loser. And speaking of which, do not forget that, with the new wildcard format, there will be only ONE play-in game, so the value of winning one's division has more importance today than it has had since the old days before the playoffs expanded. That added, for instance, even more significance to the Yanks/A's series which just ended, as it potentially meant either one or the other team would have to travel 2500 miles to compete in a "sudden death" game.
But with myopic "homer" loyalty, I'd not expect you guys to see that for yourselves. :D

Get over your damn selves, stop worring about what happens in The Bronx, and concentrate on winning your own damn games, instead of trying not to lose as many as the next guy, and backing into the playoffs!
Sheesh.
Sorry, but I can only take so much foolishness before I pop.

I'm flattered you feel that I'm so concerned about your beloved Yanks.. not really.. Why don't you review what you've been posting recently in this thread? You are the one that is so damn worried about other teams like the Tigers and Sox... Take a chill pill, the Central is not taking any press away from the Yanks.. You're not going to lose any bandwagon fans because of the Central... Get over yourself and your team. For you to post such a crazy response is hard to understand, I mean, your team is making the postseason right?? Anyway, don't worry about what happens in the AL Central, Tom and I can take care of that for you:r:r Maybe you are just a bit worried about the Tigers walking on you guys again;);)

This season is coming down to the wire!
Yanks, now, are the 1 seed, but could slide all the way down to a wild card.
Texas is only up by 1, with 2 left to play with Oakland.
They could end up a wildcard or the one seed.
In fact all 4 teams fighting could end up with the 1 seed or a wildcard berth!
Crazy when you think about it!
Tigers lock up the Central. I always thought they would win it, but it shouldn't have taken them this long.
Kudos to Ventura! I'm sure he gave ChiSox fans more than they were hoping for.
I doubt the end of this season will match the drama of last year's, but this is fun.
I need a way to see the Oakland Vs Texas game tonight.
I hope MLB Network or ESPN airs it.

But, then, I hope the team craters for another year or so because I want them to unload Kershaw to Texas.
Hey, pipe dreams can be fun.
My respect for the A's was and is high. Best drafting/developing team in the league. Just think how good it would be for baseball if they ever were able to get out of Oakland. They probably scare me more than any other team in the AL right now.

I spent nine innings Mutha Fcukin the Yanks.
I was furious at them!
With their fate in their hands, they could only muster one lowly run, against the hapless Red Sox.
After they tied it in the ninth, I was still furious that they didn't win it right there.
They had bases loaded, one out, with Tex and Cano coming up, and neither one of those jabronies could get the run home.
By the time they finally won it in the 12th, I was spent.
I wish I had the energy to watch the Oakland game!

Watched what may have been Lance Berkmans last at bat last night. Pretty touching as he should still be on the DL but limped out to the batters box and all the way to 1st after hitting into a ground out. The fans were cheering the whole time while the ump stood back to update his book to give Berkman time for the moment.

Pretty good games last night, despite the debacle in the ATL.
I had liked the O's, but never thought the Cards would beat the Braves.
In fact, I had the Braves going all the way to the series.
Looks like I'm gonna have to find another NL team to root for.
The 2 division series get under way today, with the higher ranked teams opening on the road.
Anyone have any thoughts about the teams starting on the road?
I personally don't think it's a big deal.
Unless the Yanks open 0-2, then I'll be screaming about it! ;) :r
