Saw this posted on facebook, it looks like it has some of the same feel from Season 1, which makes me happy. That scene where they all have to hide under cars on the highway looks very intense.

From THE LA TIMES:
A day after news reports surfaced that Frank Darabont was leaving "The Walking Dead," there was finally a little clarity Wednesday about where the zombie show was headed.
Darabont is stepping down from his multifaceted role at the AMC series — he was executive producer and an occasional director — and, at most, will be involved as a consultant. In his place, AMC will promote the show's No. 2 executive, Glen Mazzara, a veteran of "The Shield" who has been heavily involved in "Dead" since the end of 2010.
When the Darabont news broke Tuesday night, it shocked many in Hollywood, coming at a time when the series' stock couldn't be higher.
A second season of Rick Grimes and his band of scrappy humans is currently shooting in Georgia. A recently released trailer for the season garnered significant buzz, and a Comic-Con International panel Friday in San Diego — in which Darabont participated with no evidence of any problems — showed fans as eager as ever for the Oct. 16 return of the post-apocalyptic series.
An AMC spokeswoman declined to comment.

Huge fan of the comic, been reading it since it's first year. Bummer that Darabont is leaving but I've heard it's from the stress of running a tv show full time. Either way I'm SERIOUSLY looking forward to this. Breaking bad is helping me for now though. :)

I enjoyed the season open - I haven't read the novel (though I want to) as it will ruin the series for me, but I did not see that ending coming. What a better way to hook you into the new season than have both kids in danger? And is it me, or is Darrell one bad-ass zombie killing ninja? I'm really starting to like that guy -- which of course means he'll ultimately do something horribly evil. (BTW, the gut-bag scene: awesome!)
Other than NFL RedZone, this is the only appointment viewing in my life. Looking forward to next week.

How many soliloquies can you cram into an hour and a half show that should have only been an hour?
Zombies are definitely faster, I think so they can squeeze more commercials in!

I don't know but I shot a buck from 15 yards with a slug and it didn't pass through, and the chance it would be a kill shot on the deer, pass clean through and take out the boy just seems to far fetched for me, but I guess it was the sign he was looking for! I am not saying it would be impossible but highly unlikely. I didn't see it coming though, I wonder if any animals will become zombies. It would have been cool to see the deer turn and look at the boy with blood all over its mouth.

I'll still watch it for a bit, but I'm not convinced on this show yet. I really, really want to like it, because I dig zombies/zombie movies, but I found myself fast-fowarding through a lot of the scenes in the last episode.
Those segments where the character speaks to the audience (like the long walkie-talkie scene) seem like such a cop-out to me. Couldn't the writers find a more interesting or engrossing way to lay out the plot points?
I like the gore and zombies (zombie head + screw driver = awesome!), but it's going to take some decent acting to keep me interested in it, or at least some characters I "care" about.
Anyway, just my :2 I still plan to DVR it and watch as time allows for now, but really hope it picks up.

The gore is so well done, it is the only thing that keeps me watching right now.

Then the show should have a different name because Walking Dead means zombies.:2
Clearly zombies have no character, so I understand a need to inject character development into the writing, but the drama is over the top. Like ucla695 stated the "love triangle" is already old.

First season was great but this season sucks. I would be interested in seeing how much show actually aired compared to commercials. I swear for every 3 minutes of show it seemed like there was 10 minutes of commercials.

We had a friend over last night, she has never seen the show.
We tried watching the new episode with her and she asked "where are all the zombies?".
Then that walker attacked the blonde lady in the forrest and she was like "that's it?".
I tried to explain it was the worst episode so far, but I don't think she will watch it again!
I watched last season a couple weeks ago and I loved it, not sure what their target market is this year. Maybe they are going to be moving to Lifetime and need to change their demagraphic? I will keep watching though, and keep complaining too if it doesn't get better.
On a possitive note, it is still better than TeraNova!!!!

I think Otis is good as dead, but they writers do like to set you up for an obvoius moment and not make it happen.

I'm absolutely loving this season. They really picked up on the character development (which is probably why most people say it's so slow). But this development is very important for events to come. In my eyes this story really just getting started. This season will bring big things. To me people tend to focus less on the characters and more on the "action". If that is how you watch this show, then you will be somewhat disappointed.
It was important to use a whole show with Carl, you have to understand the writers are trying to bring you into the characters shoes. I biggest point to me is that these people are not just surviving the zombies. As it sits now, even a broken bone can end up in death. It all is very dark and heart wrenching. I love this dynamic of how "people" react with all these things going on.
From start to finish I'm tense and on edge. I love thinking about what it would be like for me to experience this and the decisions I would make. Would I stay with the pack? Would I go off on my own. Even forming a group presents its own problems like Sophia being missing.
Right now you see a group living in the moment. I cannot wait till that transitions into long-term survival.

I enjoyed this last episode, man that last scene with Shane & Otis....INTENSE!!!
I was hoping the boy would die (just so Rick can move on and be full of rage). You guys b!tching about these last 2 episodes need to remember this is a story about people dealing with a bad situation that has occurred it's not really all about zombies....at least that's how Kirkman has put it regarding the comic and the show.
There is all kinds of drama in the comics and sometimes very little zombies.
But it is what it is and I am glad they renewed for a 3rd season!

Only two episodes in and I am getting pissed. Last season was soooo much better.
Completely agreed with you but tonight I feel like they are heading back in the right direction. Last season was just fantastic. This season just started off slow and not nearly as exciting. Tonight's episode was good and we enjoyed it. Going to be interesting to see how this continues. One thing I like is the acting is good. There is no cheesiness or B movie feeling to it that most zombie flicks or horror flicks seem to have. Very well done.

I have a feeling that season 2 is getting ready to take off.
Yes it did start a little slow but I'm thinking that they want to Kay down a good cover story before the action starts. There seem to be alot of storys within the story's.

They really need to kill the wife off, which they wont do of course because of the dynamic she creates.
But she really is not believable as a character to me, way too emotional and unstable, she wouldn't last a day in a real crisis situation like that:)

Another well done episode last night. I especially loved the scene with Daryl, Andrea and the hanging zombie. Daryl was not happy about the way the zombie "went out". Pretty amazed he was going to leave the zombie there. The other scene I really enjoyed was when Rick and Lori were discussing what to do with Carl. We now really see the dynamic of how these terrrible times force people to think they would be better off dead. I mean she tells her husband that they should just let their son die! And great job from the writers, perfectly bringing back the deer scene to help convince Carl's mother that he wants/needs and should have every opportunity to survive injury.
Well done again, cannot wait till next week.

My wife asked me a question and I didn't know the answer:
"Do you think Shane left Otis for dead to give him more time to escape?"
or
"Did Shane leave Otis as revenge for shooting Carl?"
I think if he had left him to escape he would have shot him once and been gone. Because he began to beat Otis I believe it was meant to be revenge.
What do you guys think???
I couldn't believe the ending. When Shane was looking at the "bald" spot on his head, I thought he was bitten or a bullet grazed him.
Also, I didn't buy any of the writing around the mother saying that perhaps it was best if Carl died. It's her only son! Just not a realistic thing for a mother to say.

Interesting question. I think it depends on how you view Shane's relationship with Carl. We know that Shane is fond of him, but he's been acting like a jerk to him. When I first saw it, I thought he shot Otis so that he could get away. But I also thought, why didn't he just shot him in the head? Why make him suffer by getting eaten alive?
Perhaps the revenge theory explains this...

This is how I saw it.
Shane shot Otis to buy time to get away. Otis grabbed Shane almost immediately after being shot as Shane started wrestling for Otis' bag. Otis knew what was going on and tried to keep Shane there. Otis' gun goes off, and Shane grabs it and it and beats Otis with it. Otis has a fistful of Shane's hair and finally lets go, so Shane can get away.
It was pure survival, no revenge was involved at all. Shane even apologizes before he shoots Otis. If you look close, it even appears a few times that Otis is actually gaining ground on Shane, because Shane's gimp leg is slowing him down.

Being that this is based on the character Rick for the most part... I know this is a pipe dream, but...

As a historian of the American South, one of the things that I like about the show is that it is based in the most commonly referenced Southern state, Georgia, which leads the show not only to be demonstrative of an American zombie apocalypse, but also how Southern culture would react in particular; which none of the zombie movies to date have dealt with. Yet upon looking up the actors, the actor who plays Rick is from London, Shane is from D.C., Lori has duel citizenship in the US and Canada, and Dale is from Buffalo, NY. Nonetheless the writers and actors have done a good job in my opinion of portraying Southern culture.
Despite the risk of being a nerd, what have y'all thought about the show taking place in the South?

I also think he CAN show up again. You don't say "Hey there's a hacksaw in that toolbag" in a scene for nothing.
It opens up too many possibilities, EVEN BEFORE THE GUY TRIPS OVER IT and spills the contents all over while dropping

handy if they run short of storylines and plot twists. Gonna watch S1 Epi 3-4 tonight.

I disagree. I really like the old folks home and the CDC. Both addressed social aspects that horror-only zombie movies have only hinted at: communities banding together to protect the helpless and, in regards to the CDC, the complex and difficult decision individuals must make when given a choice to end uncertainty and a dismal future by painless suicide or continue in humanity's fight for survival. This same issue was the debate b/w Lori and Rick over Carl's fate. Shane's wacking of Otis in the last episode makes every view ask themselves if the end justifies the means.
I love the suspenseful and horror aspects of the show, but the drama side that brings up questions about society are what puts it over the top in my opinion

I agree to a point, I don't mind the focus on society and the downfall of economics as a whole, I just think they have gone to far into personal relationships in an attempt to develop the characters. I just don't like the love triangle and the searching for a missing girl for three episodes. I really love the show don't get me wrong, I just like the horror/action to be split with drama more like 50-50 than the current 20-80 it feels like now.
Sometimes I get the feeling they wrote one season and are stretching it out over three.

How can you accurately depict a small society/group as a whole without first understanding the characters and their relationship with each other.
Sophia is very important to the flow right now. It brings in that "hope" factor. These people need to have some kind of hope, something to keep them fighting and progressing. Right now they still have hope in finding her, but if they don't, or Sophia is actually a walker now, think about what that will do to these people.
Everyone complains about love stories, but this show is trying to be as real as possible. In life most people are always searching for connections and relationships with other people, its just the way it is. And quite honestly, the show has hardly touched on the Lori/Shane saga this season, it could be a lot worse.

I think it would be interesting to see if the group decides to stay united to find Sophia, or will they be split. Some may just decide they don't care about finding her anymore, and go back to simply worrying about themselves. Could make for some really tense scenes. We could see the group literally split and go different ways. So much to look forward this Sunday. :noon
I don't mind opening cans of worms, I do it daily here, but I was mis-understood on my point about blablabla,
same old thing, the shows end badly. What I mean is "Hurry, there's only SECONDS to GO! Everyone gets out of
the CDC and it's "GET DOWN!!" Kaboom................weak..........This is why I said I KNOW it's hard to end a
show, I am no writer, and I don't envy their every word being picked over by likers and haters. But my Dad used
to get SO MAD about the bomb timer ticking down. He said "You never see the bomb timer ticking down to a
minute-twenty and it gets de-fused. Always has to be 1 or 2 seconds.
But yeah, I thought Otis' lines were prettly lame in the end, at the cdc, he was all "if you aren't coming, then
I am staying. You can't just let someone care for you and then give up like this"...
And with that I will stop jacking the season two thread with season 1 gripes.
((But what he SHOULDA said was "Uh-uh, NO....you and me got's to get to re-populatin this bi+ch, honey,
Git you honey-blond sweet a55 up and OUT of this ticking time bomb."))
.
As to current plot items, I have not seen it yet, but I think that once they were in the CDC and realized that
they are alone not just in their little microcosm, but globally, searching for that little girl becomes more than
just, "oops, lost another one..." They need to make the effort I think, just to stay sane.
But as for splitting up, that's a good bet, since parallel action takes up more time and allows for more intricate
plotlines that serve the producer's needs to sqeeze life out of what will end up being a pretty thin storyline if
they go into 3-4 seasons.

they go into 3-4 seasons. You have got to be kidding. There are SO many things they can do with this show! How can you make that assumption without even seeing an episode of season 2?
Hahaha, there it is, the exposed nerve. :r Look, I've been in television for 25 years.
I am just assuming that your best effort leads off, and at some time in the future,
people are going to get about enough of running from zombies. Your fourth slice of
pizza is no less tasty, it just TASTES less tasty to YOU after the previous 3. There
is a zombie glut going on in this world these past few years, and it's gonna play to the
detriment of this show eventually. GRANTED, they can replenish the characters endlessly
by just stumbling upon new people cowering in various locations throughout the south, but
after a while, it's gonna be been there, did that, what's next. You'll see.
-----------
OK, let me play this out for you another way. One of the best things about this show,
for me, through 6 episodes, is the SHOCK value of A.) the camera placements, i.e., how you
get to view the bashing skull, and B.) just the shock in general. Best shot for me thru 6
is the first show, black guy out in the street (Morgan?) is on his way, running up to Rick,
and just off-handedly reaches out an puts a bullet in the walker's head that's heading towards Rick.
It was just SO matter of fact, so clean, so wild to see. But eventually that type of shock
wears off. This show is unique in that there is so little actual drag-leg zombie scuffling.
They set you up with a camera angle that would normally have you saying "Here we go", but
in the end it's just a shot. I am not saying I want more dialogue, but I like that there is enough
horror just in the overall gravity of the sitcho and the emptiness of the world they live in.
I like it for what it ISN'T trying to do. SO that saves back some shock value for later, but it's
not a bottomless well.

I am a nut though anything newer sci fi or apocalyptic I tend to like. Beats Vampire Diaries where the whole town is a 18 year old fake like vampire and they all happen to be good enough looking to be in Playboy. Give me some real, throw in some ugly people please!

I understand what you are saying and I agree, but I think they are stretching the personal connections out. Really it is my problem personally because I have a short attention span. My wish for the show is based on my personal prefernces and not everybody elses point of view. I need action to keep me interested. I like violence in movies and TV and love seeing gore. When this show does gore, they do it right. This show requires the viewer watch every episode to have any clue as to what is going on so I guess that is good. It isn't a sitcom, but give me more bite (some pun intended)! It could be alot worse you are right, I need to stay focused on the positives:tu And there are a lot of positives!

I'm glad that Shane put a bullet in Otis - it opens a pile of new character questions...
...did Shane really think that Rick was dead? Or did he say it because he wanted Lori and thus wanted to believe it?
...does Shane's plan to leave the group really hinge on removing tension, or does he have a darker motive?
...did Shane shoot Otis as an act of self-preservation? As retribution for Otis shooting Carl? Because he determined that Otis' life was expendable when compared with Carl's?
...who will find out about Shane shooting Otis? What will the result be?
I like the character-driven aspect of the show....but I would certainly be happy if there was a little more Zombie slay'in thrown in for good measure.

If they did the show the way you suggest, all it would be is Night of the Living Dead.....over and over and over and over again every week. I love horror, but very few people would tune in for that, not even me. Gets pretty old,,pretty quick.
People watch for the character development, they want to become interested in the people lives, that's the very thing that makes a tv show successful.

There were definitely flaws with the well scene, but I enjoyed it for what it was. To me it was a little macabre comedy. The scenario was so absurd, I couldn't help but chuckle.
I thought the pharmacy scene was pointless. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more of that little Georgia Peach, but at the same time... huh?
At the end... I saw Merle in a sneak peek... Predictions for the return of Merle anyone? I'm thinking he won't actually show up until the end of the next episode, but when he does... the week after is gonna rock.
Potential spoilers, so I wrapped I changed the color to make them less obvious to read...
1) I suspect Merle is gonna unlock Hershel's dirty little secrets.
2) I believe he and Daryl are gonna get into it, cause he has Sophia
3) T-Dawg is gonna die.

Prediction:
The farmer and his hot little daughter know something about the missing little girl.
Reason for prediction: In the scene where they are talking about Sophia, the daughter asks what they they would tell the mother if they found out she was bitten (or something like that). Shane says something like "tell her the truth", the daughter looks at the old man, and the old man very slightly shakes his head at her, as if to say "keep your mouth shut."

There was another preview of next week's episode during Hell on Wheels. In this preview Daryl is riding a horse and it gets spooked by a rattle snake. He gets thrown from the horse and goes down a stone embankment to a stream. When he goes to get up it looks like he has an arrow or a branch through his leg.
My guess is he ends up in the stream for a while bleeding and starts hallucinating. One of the things he sees will end up being Merle I bet.

Just watched episode 4. I liked the curve ball of the farmer's daughter - but I agree with the absurdity of the Zombie in the well. There's no way that any sane person would drink out of that well after the walker was in it anyways = alive, dead, shot, ripped apart, or otherwise. Fill it in with rocks, get rid of the pump, and call it good.
I enjoyed the episode, I think Shane is too disgusting to even watch act, such a liar, but hey, it's
the apocolypse, you're gonna get some Bull5hi+ now and again. I agree it's hard not to think the little girl
has been zombiefied after the knowing looks exchanged over the mapping session. I want a new episode
though, I now agree with everyone that looking for the kid for three episodes is gonna be about one too
many already. I DON'T want to see the whole crew encamp at the farm, so I agree with the old man on
that one. I do want the farmer's daughter to join up and hit the road and give everyone some sugar, hell
I'll take some, too. I think it's pretty clear that Ram-bow and the short-haired mother are going to hook up
as a unit, which I think means that the kid is lost forever. But whe will need a shoulder to cry on and

My thought about the whole thing is when ever the main group runs into another group they will do what ever it takes to protect the group and stick together.
They will screw over every other group to save each other.
If groups like the farm group won't allow Ricks group to stay or do what "they think is best" the farm group will be destroyed and so on down the line.
They will absorb people that don't have anyone else or people agree with them, and they will be the fodder.

Ok, one thing that I noticed about the show is the carelessness of the group members with regard to getting infected. For example, Daryll hanging zombie ears on his neck? Or shooting and eating squirrels with the same arrows that he shoots zombies with? I know this is getting very picky, but I thought I should mention it, considering how I would handle ANY virus that could be passed through human fluids (AIDS, hepatitis, etc). Maybe they are just staying true to the novels?

I don't think it's picky in the least to state that there is too little regard for body fluids.
When you set up a premise, as this one was set up, you need to feel like people are
pretty serious about abiding by it. When was it, the department store, when they said
"don't forget to wear the face-shield. You don't want that getting in your mouth, eyes
etc." And yet they get right in there and fight and swing clubs and bash incapacitated
zombies without even looking away or closing their eyes. But the arrow deal is the

his mouth/lips, spit, and nock it right back onto the string.

I've thought about this issue before. But from what I can recall the only instance of them alluding to zombie blood getting into the bloodstream w/o a bite was the one you mention, Brad. Other that one instance, they are consistent to imply that blood in the eye, for example, won't affect you.
Plus I've think it interesting that they have never once to my knowledge called them "zombies". They are "walkers," which I think breaks down the terminology into a simplistic, survival term.
I also think we are itching closer and closer to a Shane betrayal and/or breakaway, at which I anticipate him to bring up that he slept with Lori and claim the baby as his

I agree on both regards. Daryle has really evolved over the past two episodes, I initially pegged him as an abusive and selfish guy (like Merle) but when you consider the stories he told about him as child combined w/his dedication to finding Sophia, Daryle is a victim of his upbringing and finding Sophia is a way for him to come to terms w/his own past.
In Andrea's case, I think she was just trying to make a strong, independent decision and show "the boys" that she is not a weak dependent like the other women of the group have been so far

I think they over played Daryle in the woods alot. It kind of got boring, but him seeing his brother was pretty neat, I wasn't expecting that. Do you guys think they are going to continue the search, or just call it quits soon? I agree it is using alot of their man power, and spreading them pretty thin.
1. When do you think they'll get the boot from the house?
2. What will become of the zombies in the barn?
3. Will they find the girl A)dead B)alive or C) stop looking for her?

I think he is collecting the zombies in hope of saving them once a cure is developed. I would like to see the girl find them at the farm as a zombie.

I love all the discussion about logic, reality, etc.....it's a Zombie show, Friends. :lr
Again, it's about the people. The zombies are just the background.

My thoughts too. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their firends/family are among the walkers.
I think it'd be great to find the girl in the barn too.
