My thoughts too. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their firends/family are among the walkers.
I think it'd be great to find the girl in the barn too.
Oh I like the girl in the barn concept, yah I thought it was just gonna be the farmers wife at first and then I saw all of them in there!

I just saw episode 1. I did it in a day. Im going to catch up with season 2 . Really neat show...
I am leaning in the direction you guys have presented. Add the knowing look between Herschel and his daughter
over "finding the lost girl" and this new revelation that there is a herd of zombies in the barn and you really would
have to blind not to see that the girl is in that barn shambling around. That's precisely why they cut the episdode
off RIGHT THERE. This goes hand in hand with the idea that this is a $hi+ or get off the pot moment. They will not
just keep wandering around the woods looking for Hansel and Gretel, they are going to move on/get the boot. What
better timing than to see the girl zombiefied? The mother grieves in horror, STAYS on at the farm with her baby,
the rest of the band is forced to move on.
The Shane thing just grates my nerves like nails on a chalkboard or ME in the SEC thread. He is such a doofus-
a$$ redneck. "Ahm a certified firearms instructor, I will teech U how to shoot, kid." You will not handle a weapon,
you are just a kid." The redneck drawl just pours out of him is such an irritating manner.

I really enjoyed the last episode and particularly the dynamics w/Merle and Daryl. We're all different :r
I think that episode 5 (the last one) was a big step up from episodes 3 and 4. Merle was a nice touch...
I agree on both regards. Daryle has really evolved over the past two episodes, I initially pegged him as an abusive and selfish guy (like Merle) but when you consider the stories he told about him as child combined w/his dedication to finding Sophia, Daryle is a victim of his upbringing and finding Sophia is a way for him to come to terms w/his own past.
In Andrea's case, I think she was just trying to make a strong, independent decision and show "the boys" that she is not a weak dependent like the other women of the group have been so farThese are my thoughts exactly. This episode was great!

I think the Greene family is keeping the walkers simply because they don't know what to do with them. Hershel being the religious man that he is cannot justify killing the walkers. In his heart that is the wrong thing to do. Also, the last episode when they split the well walker in two, did you see Maggie's reaction to that? It was very hard for her to witness that. These people have not yet experienced the killing for survival aspect.
I am still curious about that look Hershel gave Maggie last episode. The walkers in the barn really did not explain that previous interchange between them. We may find out that is something more devious going on. Also, at the end when Maggie said, "you weren't supposed to see that." Other than the safety precautions obviously, why should Rick and his crew be concerned with that?
The Daryl scenes were fantastic, I loved every second of it. Again, it just shows you the dynamic. A flesh wound can seriously result in your death. We think of small injuries in life like no big deal. But that is not the case for these folks. The conversations with Merle are really going to impact Daryl's character. I cannot wait to see how this develops.
Andrea was trying so hard to prove herself. Most people around her are out trying to be a hero and being the strong one of the group. This was finally her chance to do that same. Not to mention these people HATE the walkers for the circumstances they are in. You see this come out in a scene or two this season. These folks are having some small joy in killing the walkers.
Did anyone catch that wonderful comic relief in the scene with Maggie and Glenn?? It was so needed, and enjoyed.
So, for you folks commenting on this thread about the episodes/season not being good for whatever reason, please tell me what you think would make it better. Layout an episode, I'm curious to know what you want to see happen.

More "walkers" for starters would be nice.
I am one that said in the FUTURE they may trouble keeping my interest since there is only so much you can do with
the premise. I have been told that is incorrect, but there you go. I have not really said that they are not GOOD, but
I have been in the group that says that there seems to be too much dragging along with the lost little girl storyline and
also that I thought the Good Old Home Boys Retirement Home idea was too patronizing for the level of quality the show
had become known for. A little too Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids for me. The Waltons was a show for teaching
moral lessons, not a zombie drama. But it is their show and if I don't like it I need only change the channel.
Haha, Irrate wants more zombies. He is in group B. That is the group that thinks everytime the hero or heroine is framed
up right of center, then a zombie needs to enter the frame from the left side, and vice-versa. Everytime a door is closed
with a mirror on it, there needs to be a zombie behind the person reflected in it. Classic horror setups. Me, again, I like
the way the show is. There is always a chance that there is going to be a zombie encounter, but it is far from certain.
I think the scenario itself is horrifying enough, just the prospect of a future where this is the sitcho everyday is really
messed up to contemplate.

I agree...that's what she was trying to do....but if I were a member of that group, I would say that she only accomplished one thing by taking that shot....proving that even if has some skill with a rifle, she lacks the judgement required to be trusted with a firearm.

I like this show a lot, but the characters aren't pulling me in as much as I'd like. I feel like the story isn't progressing very fast, which would be fine if the characters were a little stronger. I do like how they are starting to add some back story about how everything went down. I do enjoy it quite a lot, and this latest episode has been much more engaging to me.

This is a great sentence. Initially I kind of rolled my eyes at even discussing this scene, it was so
simple, so awkward, so predictable. But I like this sentence, the scene is EXACTLY that. How many
different people specifically TOLD HER to cool her jets? Granted she is a woman and they were
all men, so it was not likely she was going to listen to them, they had taken her pistol away. But she
was gonna get that shot off. You could tell, however, with the glare, she never really paused
because she couldn't AIM properly, she was clearly waiting for an ID on the target, which was good.
But in the end, she did the hard-headed thing, like most humans.

You could argue that they compounded the problem by taking the weapons away and making her feel like she had to prove herself.
Then bring on the freakin' Apocolypse!! :D

To everyone commenting on last weeks episode, and the dynamic between Merle and Darryl.....
There wasn't any dynamic between Merle and Darryl. There was a dynamic between Darryl and Darryl, Merle was a hallucination. He had two hands.
At least that's my take.
As to this weeks episode, anybody beside me think they saw a member of the set outside the window in the pharmacy scene?
It happens fast, but when the zombie attacks there's a quick shot of Glenn and over his shoulder you can see out the window. The first shot theres nothing there, then they pan back and there seems to be a guy standing there outside the window.

It would have been better if the hallucination of Merle had one cauterized stump. And then he actually showed up in a future episode and smack talked Daryl as an introduction.
And Daryl thought he was a hallucination up until the point where Merle gives him a deep tongued kiss hello.

On a side note, I've been reading the Walking Dead comic book Wiki a lot and it's very interesting how the show diverges quite a bit from the thread of the book.

Andrea...that's her name. Again and again, she displays that while she may know what she's doing with a firearm, she lacks the judgement required to be trusted with one. As for Shane Mac I think him and Andrea would do fine on their own. While his outburst at the barn to me was much needed to show the group that they need to get there act together I still think he flys off the handles.

I felt like Shane finally did what needed to be done. Hopefully Hershel will realize that he wasn't thinking straight. Especially after what Rick did to the little girl. 3)Do you think Dale and Daryl will finally throw down, or will Dale just keep taking it? I think Shane murders him. I think he would have done it already in the woods if he thought he could get away with it.
Dale sees Shane for the whack job he really is, and is therefore too dangerous for Shane to let stick around. Sooner or later he would get the others to see the truth as well.

Great episode!
I think Shane is a psycho (douchebag) and zombies just happen to be readily available for killing. Dale was right, when the shitstorm comes down, then Shanes the man for the job... Survive at any cost!
However, Rick seems is built for everything! That's why he did what had to be done! Even Shane has his limits.

Youse guys got a problem with psycho douchebags?
i dont think shanes all that psycho.....
mind you he has a very quick temper and speaks his mind but push comes to shove he has proven himself to be very reliable when it comes to protecting the group.
before rick showed up shane was calling the shots and the group was big and happy. it really wasnt till rick got there that SHTF. mind you yes this is a show and it would have made for a very boring show to watch people live in a old quarry but still :r
i think shane is just fed up with the fact that they have a place that compared to where they have been is safe and they have the means to survive. i think he is also dealing with the tension between lori and him and also his best friend being back. what he did to otis was wrong and sad but he really did do it for the better of the group. everyone knows that otis would have slowed shane down and gotten him killed. if shane cared about self preservation i think he would have just dumped all the medical gear and taken off. instead he had carl on his mind and did what he had to do.
all in all the show to me is really doing a great job of showing MANY MANY angles of what life would be like for a group of survivors after a zombie invasion. this show is really evolving and the writers and actors are doing a great job. cant wait till feb!!!

When you think about it, the first killing by Rick was a little girl on the bike. To end the mid season with the killing of Sofia, it brings it full circle. This is what they were saying on Talking Dead last night. They also said something interesting in that it was Otis who placed Sophia in the barn. He left with Shane for the meds and was zombie food before anyone mentioned the reason they were searching in the woods when Carl got shot. Hershel even said it was Otis' job to put the walkers in the barn. I did catch that when it was said and sort of figured it out before they got to the final scene. Still it was a very good episode.

I kinda feel bad for the little girl, the series is/has really taken off and they kill of her character already.
I don't like Shane and I don't feel bad for Otis. Shane told him not to go with him to the school, I can perfectly
understand why he went anyway, but a big wheezy fat dude has no business trying to run from zombies,
and that's exactly what he KNEW he'd have to do.
I TOLD YOU that girl was in the barn shambling around, lol. (page 13 #253)
I just ate a big spoonful of spoilers despite not being able to watch Epi. 6 or 7 til tonight. Spoilers don't usually
bother me. I am gonna watch anyway. Like I said, I knew that kid had to be in the barn, but why would they
let those people traipse around the woods like hansel and gretel when there was no reason to search?
I am guessing they wanted as many 'group' as possible dead and out of their hair.

Otis was the one in charge of putting the walkers in the barn, but he went with Shane to the school before he heard any of the talk about the missing girl. The others on the farm probably didn't get a chance to hear that she was even in there before he died.
That would explain some things, but not the knowing glances exchanged between Herschel and his daughter.
But of course, that's all just editing. Who knows if that was supposed to go another way and they decided
against it. All in all I was not as thrilled with the show as you guys were, I liked it because in a way,
it finally got moving somewhere. I have been bored stiff. I saw another example of why I hate Shane, he is
just the kind of cop I always run into. Bloused pants, testosterone-soaked bullets in his gun...I halfway expect him
to grab his crotch at any moment for emphasis. But come Goundhog Day, I think he is gonna make a break with
his new squeeze. May they be happy together forever. I also think Lori is a skag. I liked her on Prison Break,
but this character is too skinny, too a lot of stuff. I guess she is perfectly acting her character, though.
It is going to be interesting to see how this goes on the return show. Clearly Herschel is going to have a
breakdown, I thought he was gonna coronary on the spot outside the barn there. He is going to demand they
leave and Shane is gonna grab his nuts and grunt for effect. But Herschel is right, there have to be dozens of
farms nearby where they can stay in contact without being right on top of one another. They need to find a
gas truck and go on a gas siphoning and bullet shopping spree. I am guessing most of the gun shops got looted,
so maybe this is more a matter of breaking into another cop shop. Hard to know where their next move lies on
that point. I had fun last night, though watching this a few days late...Shane in the swamp having a showdown
over the guns, I was making ape noises at the screen as he was swaggering around.

I've been thinking about my strategies if/when the zombie Apocalypse comes that the show does not reflect:
- A pack of dogs; preferably rottweiler (#1 thing that would be valuable that the show disregards)
- some chain mail or knight armor to protect against bites
- A broad sword
Defenses:
- Build a deep trench/moat
- A multi-layer rudimentary barbwire fence would suffice (zombies are dumb as hell)
Living conditions:
The Florida Everglades
If not, a barrier island on the coast or an island in a lake (have u ever seen a zombie swim?)

While surely not destined to be a classic, it's playable (though a tiny bit complicated at first). Best feature? You start out as one of the survivors, but if you get "bit" you become a zombie and get to chase the remaining survivors around the board. We played it three times over the Christmas weekend. Each time the zombies killed all the survivors before anyone "won".

I really enjoyed the first half of this season. I liked that there was not too much action as it allowed them time to further develop the characters.
To fill my need for Walking Dead, I've been reading the Wiki for the comic book a lot. Interesting how they've changed the story line from the comic book. For instance, in the book, Shane is long dead at this point. Reading the Wiki has also shown me that there are still plenty of really cool places the group could end up and some really cool characters they could yet introduce to the show.

While I agree CBM is not worth it, I thought it was a brilliant marketing move by AMC to try to get Walking Dead fans to tune into the new show. I know I sat through the interminable 10 minutes of Comic Book Men to get to next weeks preview for the Walking Dead.
That said, there is another preview up on the AMC site too -- it will make more sense if you saw last night's preview but things look to be getting very interesting.

Last night's episode was pretty good, but I have a question:
SPOILER
Why did Lori leave to go get Rick and (um the asian, name escapes me now) and the doc...isn't that what Rick and the asian were doing anyway? Just made no sense to me
END SPOILER
Next week's episode does look interestng though.
Without giving away anything for you left coasters I'll just say I found Lori very annoying during that episode.
Sure that's not a spoiler. That beyotch is annoying 24/7.

PS - why is the group acting like they don't know what the symptoms of turning into a zombie is with that young blonde chick, Beth?? the guy at the CDC explained it and they saw it w/the skinny guy that got bit and chose to stay on the road. Guess we'll lose another semi-hot chick cause she's a zombie sure as the Pope wears a funny hat

WoW, watched the new episode last night. Haha, that was great. I think it's fair to say that the line of the night
was OLIVE OYL, lololol. I know it's TV editing, but how FAST is freaking Rick on the draw, haha. And Lori, maybe
she is dead, but then again, I have been reading the "Survivor's Guide" for Walking Dead, and "that's not the way she dies."
But if the comics had any bearing, Shane would be DEAD now and never MET the people at the Greene's Farm. Carl shot
his a55 in the neck for threatening his daddy....Round about the day they saw the deer. I have provided a link to
the comics and the Survivor's Guide to many here in PMs. If you would like it, just PM me.

Yes and no...The comic book and the series have not shared enough details to spoil anything that I can think of.
Secondly I am ALWAYS the last person to see something, so there is no one left to spoil anything for. :ro
C.) I did not say how Lori is supposed to die.
D.) Rick being a fast drawer is not a spoiler.
E.) Shane being shot in the neck in the comics in what would be 5 episodes ago or so is not a spoiler for the show
where he is currently alive and well, lol.
But I did think of writing my thoughts in beige and will now do that from here on out. All that said, this thread may
be in use years into the future where the whole thing will be one big spoiler, so like some have said before, these
threads are not like threads on Walking Dead forums....read all of it at your own risk. I just now watched the entire
Spartacus B&S show in a week, LONG after it aired. I just didn't read into the thread too far while I was watching it

Yeah, that kind of makes me scratch, too. Maybe they feel bad about putting a bullet into her
skull while they are in her own family's house.
Great episode! The only thing that has bugged me from the beginning is they let lay tons of military weapons and keep using the commercial crap! Oh the zombies I would tear up with M4's laying all over :sl
Not sure what you mean. Have you seen weapons go unused? Where and by whom?

This whole spoiler thing is getting silly. If the episode has aired, then I think we should talk about anything we want. If people don't want something spoiled they should not go read a TV show thread the day after an episode airs.
And let's also stop talking about the comic, this thread is for the TV show.
The last episode was okay to me. The Lori stuff was dumb. The arm falling off the truck was dumb. Really, the only scene I liked was at the bar, that was awesome. I think Hershel will start to become more in the mix.

I like how the season has started so far.
Not sure what you mean. Have you seen weapons go unused? Where and by whom?
Example: when they roll back into town (1st season - one of the last episodes)to grab the bag of crappy ass commercial shot guns there’s dead troops all over even and M1 Abrams tank! Also happened when they are running out of the CDC building there were M4's/ M2's and M1 Abrams and I think Stryker sitting around! What do they do...they get back in there old busted up jeeps! I can recall many other moments be these are the big ones!
With all that fire power sitting around it would have been like Mac from my favorite scene in Predator with the GE mini gun “ I am gonna have me some fun, I am gonna have me some fun” as I am mowing down Walkers with L40 hanging out of my pie hole! LOL -(P

Rick Grimes is a badass. Nice signature moment, long overdue. :gn
And since he was "thinking about the baby," as he told Olive Oyl, there won't be any of his usual anguish & remorse. Plus, he just protected Hershel and his family from an onslaught of unsavory bandit-types, so that oughta buy him a few favors.
However, watch out for the rest of the unsavory bandit-types, who are likely prowling around and will eventually find their buddies in the bar.
The last episode was okay to me. The Lori stuff was dumb. The arm falling off the truck was dumb. Really, the only scene I liked was at the bar, that was awesome. I think Hershel will start to become more in the mix.
WHAT?? Haha, are you kidding? When that arm fell off the truck I busted out laughing.
It was the perfect shot. And so floppy and real-looking. I would agree that the Lori
storyline during that episode was nearly useless. It also seems to me that it's only there
as a 'vehicle' for her to lose her baby. The bar scene was really tense, it had me squirmin.
But the ARM falling off the truck?? COME ON. That was GREAT. :)
The fist episode where Rick wakes up from the hospital. He leaves the hospital and walks by a military camp
that had weapons laying all over the place.
For me it didn't stick out so much because I know only one thing. There would not be an
entire dead army on the ground unless the bullets had run out. These zombies are not
trying out for the NFL combine. They shamble. So unless you are out of ammo, you do not
drop your rifle. I doubt seriously that there was a single round in any of those rifles.
YOUR MIND has you thinking more like a war movie, like bammo, head shot, man drops rifle with
a full clip in it. Nope. haha
And to Irratebass, I THOUGHT maybe that's what you were getting at about the comic. But once you
added the eye roll, all bets were off, lol..

Looks Like A Lot Of Action & Zombie Killing' From Next Weeks' Preview! :banger
That and the Olive Oyl comment, I thought Daryl was channeling a little bit of Sawyer from Lost.
Hahaha, very much so. I rewound it and played it back a few times. I was pretty happy when the
episode ws over and finally someone had cracked down on Lori for basically putting her foot in her mouth.
On the main, yes, she was within her rights to ask someone from the group to go out there and
do her bidding, but it's almost like she was the only one that didn't come full circle once that Sophia
came shambling out of the barn. EVERYONE else basically said, "Well that was a wasted month".
For her to act as if Darryl owed her any more pin the tail on the donkey runs was assinine.

Not to over complicate things, but the basic battle load of ammo is 210 rounds or 7/ 30 round mags.(not even assuming there isn't spare ammo for the M4's and SAW LMG in the vehicles) Lets say they have 50% kill ratio, ok there should be 105 down walkers per solider with that being said 10 soldiers should be able to drop 1050 walkers!! The scene's dont reflect that, I would bet they let them get to close and they had them for lunch lol so the rifles & ammo pouches shouldn't all be empty.

Really loved the ending to that episode.

You know this is why the scene was really good to me. You have Herschel being a little bi+(h the
whole series, then he SEES what the walkers really are and it humbles him. Then he SEES Rick in the bar
try and protect what little peace and annonymity he still has left with a bullet out of his speedy revolver
and well-lubed holster.
That ought to buy some respect and understanding indeed.

What do you mean, that's what these threads are FOR. By all means, COMPLICATE THINGS. :D
But again, I just don't see a soldier letting a walker shamble up to him if he had rounds available.
If they worked as a team or as a wall of fire (base of fire anyway) they should not have walkers
getting nibbles on them. No way.
I totally agree that if a MP5 or any kind of automatic weapon was lying there, you'd be crazy
not to upgrade. Of course a shotgun is more useful for ensuring a head shot when it counts.
And they do not show any scenes of Rick picking up and checking any weapons. I think
he is like me, not worth a look since everyone with a gun is dead. I DO UNDERSTAND the
basic idea you are putting forth. It's like the bi+(h in the scary movie putting down a knife.
I'm like, what, did you need a spare hand to scream with? Pick up the weapon, idiot.
Couple that with the movie I just watched the other night "The Dead"....Africa is over-run with zombies. A new
twist on zombie movies. And they are EVERYWHERE. There is hardly a scen in the movie withut one slow-walking.
The last white man on the continent it seems is in a plane crash, he waked up on the beach, get's a gun and a mag.
He walks off. Later he runs into a dead soldier. I would have taken ten minutes searching every pocket that man
had for more rounds, AND taken the pistol in his web gear.
BUT NOOOoooooo. They never do, do they?

If you read up on it online, it gives it a lot more praise than it deserves. Scale of 1-10...a 5.
If you like the zombie genre, as you must, you are in this thread, then yes, if it's a buck for a rental,
sure watch it. It is not a bad movie. Just the setting itself is interesting. However, I was constantly
wondering, "Where are the animals?" There are two animals in the movie, both chickens. You see
the protag. walking around and you think, that MF better watch out or a leopard is gonna get him.
And you know that animals are faster than zombies, so surely they are SOMEWHERE. But not a
one. Maybe putting animals in a movie like this would have cost too much.

This is one of my main, easily rectifiable, qualms of the Walking Dead. A pack of dogs would be invaluable to a group. Even if it was just ankle-bitter dogs they would allow the group to sleep in peace as it would growl at the sound of a twig breaking while a dog of any size could easily take down a slow moseying walker. In the long run, I'd definitely take my rottweiler over a pistol. More stealth, doesn't need ammo, and can protect ya while u sleep. Hopefully in upcoming episodes/seasons they'll add in this dynamic, I could definitely see Darrel with a pitbull sidekick
:tu
Now keep in mind I am referring, with my thread-jacking ways, to a movie called The Dead in that statement.
But yeah, where ARE the animals in TWD? Surely a dog is faster than a zombie. Maybe they get em when they
are asleep.

They haven't alluded in the show whether animals get infected or not. The group hasn't ran across any and I don't remember any zombie movies where animals can get infected. In most movies a human can get infected if the animal has zombie blood on it and the blood gets into the human's bloodstream. Like in 28 Days later when the guy gets in infected from the crow dropping blood in his eye :2
I am watching the show again tonight, withdrawals mostly. But I noticed a couple things I wasn't thinking about.
A.) not only did Rick kind of set Herschell to thinking right, it slipped my thought process that he also saved his life.
Herschell would not have taken them to the farm, they'd have killed him, either outright or when he refused to take
them to his home.
B.) This whole Lori storyline kind of pi55es me off now. Because we have to deal with the whole drama of this
and how it works out. She wrecks one of the Greene's cars. She hurts herself badly. They have to sit there and
mope around while SHE goes through a recovery. i.e.....more wasted time. Of course there are some that say
"Why do you think hanging at the farm is wasting time? Going back on the road is just going to get people killed."
Duh...that's what makes the show exciting, haha. And the whole conflict dynamic of get the hell out/no, we want
to say is show-stuff, too. I just like it out onthe road better. I guess we'll see.

Great episode! Plenty of zombies and tense moments.
I'm not as hard on Lori as seems to be the common opinion. I thought she matured, toughened up and lost a good bit of her naivety this episode, she was resourceful and forceful in killing those two zombies and, instead of whining in the fetal position waiting to be rescued afterwards, she continued to try and find Rick. Other than Andrea, none of the other women of the group have been as independent and assertive.
As far as what I could see happening, I think once they find Merle (which I can not wait for) we could see an alliance of the "hard@sses/end-justifies-the-means" group of Merle, Shane and Andrea against the "keeping our humanity/moral code" people of Rick, Glenn, Dale and Daryl.
After all, that's what the show is really about, right? It asks the audience is it the question of surviving at all costs or is how you survive important?

Interesting, I wonder if Merle is the "leader" of this other pack :hm
And once again, we see that you have to get into town to find any zombies. Good show. A lot of dark show
which I don't much care for. I like to see my TV. But man, what a parallel to Game of Thrones, with Lori the Hori
whispering from behind Rick about Shane, planting the seed. There was a stretch of 5-8 minutes where every man
in the show put their women down with a frown. The men all left the room and left their women with mouths agape.
Interesting that in the end, the polarizing women both basically laid out what they intend their men to do for them.
And man is it headed for a showdown.

I might be reading too much into it but I think the show captures an old school conservative Southern patriarchal society. All the male characters pretty much call the shots with the women as domestic help, although Lori and Andrea are starting to brake the mold. Yet it does kinda grate my nerves that according to the show, all Southerners drive mostly old vehicles etc. If you watch closely you'll notice that the TV in Hershel's home looks like its black and white from the 70s :2
