Sharks won one last night. Saw the game. I didn't agree with the stars goal in the third. Seen goal tender interference called for less, but then again I remember thaf leafs game earlier in the year where Orr tackled the goalie and they let it count. Sharks grabbed it in the end, but the Stars got a point.

Saw the interview on NHL network last night. My wife thought it was really cool.

I felt bad for his parents too.

Back in the day Pulford (via Wirtz, I am sure) only offered Chelly a one year contract, and told him they thought he had 1 or 2 years at best left in him. They refused to sign him to any longer term than 1 year. Chelly had 4 young kids, his parents in Chicago, a sister with cancer in Chicago, and wanted some stability, both financially and geographically.

Hawks wouldn't offer it to him, so he asked to be traded. Detroit was close, and offered him what he sought. And the Hawks' prediction? Chelios played 10 years for the Wings.

TORONTO -- A frustrated Toronto Maple Leafs fan who threw waffles on the ice at the Air Canada Centre will have to admire his team from afar.

Joseph Robb was charged with criminal mischief and barred from the arena for throwing waffles on the ice at a Maple Leafs game to protest the team's performance this season. The 12-17-4 Leafs were 28th out of the NHL's 30 teams entering Wednesday's games.

Yep. That was a really sloppy game by the Thrashers. What did you think about the hit on Lucic by Meyer? I think Ference overreacted to a clean hit and got a bloody eye to show for it. There is also talk of Lucic being suspended. Should be some good hits in the rematch on Thursday.

After I typed that Tom I realized you had to be joking. Ooo well either way Sharks have won 4 in a row. Wings are slowing down a little and its starting to look like a little after mid season things will start looking like most would expect them to.

I think the Sharks or the Kings will win the pacific, the Canucks the Northwest, the Hawks or Wings win the central. I keep wondering if the age of the Wings will become a factor down the stretch. The Central has been such a cake walk for the Wings for so many years. Its nice to see some of the teams putting up a fight.

I haven't really watched them enough lately to have too much to say about them game to game. It's a lot easier to keep up with the local AHL team that I can go and watch whenever I want than to follow a team 600 miles away. If you want opinions on the Norfolk Admirals I have got them coming out the wazoo.

But I do have a few CBJ opinions...Mason is not the top tier goaltender they need. The team shows signs of brilliance but when they lose...they LOSE, the young players show potential but can't get things totally put together. The defense is slow, period.Inconsistent is the word that defines them.

Ty Conklin played goal in the first 3 Heritage/ Winter Classics (Edmonton, Buffalo and Chicago for the Wings), so he must be the real poster child. ;)

I think since this one was going to be more about the players than the venue, what better story for the casual fan than Crosby V. Ovechkin?

Ahbroody

You can't count a player being traded. Luls.

My point being why was this year about a rivalry? There have been three new style WCs and the Pens have played in two. At this rate they will play again in number 5. My point there are plenty of teams that deserve a chance. Rivalry or not, with so many teams in the league its crap for one team/ the leagues poster boy to play 2 of the three. Lets be honest Tom, this is the leagues show case game. They are promoting the game with who they want to be the face of the NHL. This is being used to try to win new fans not make fans of existing teams happy. Atleast they should just come out and say it. Hell just make it Cindy vs a different team every year.

Maybe Ovi will be in number 5 WC as the league looks to pimp its other ticket for those who arent Crosby fans.

In other news Sharks have moved into 4th are will hopefully overtake the Stars soon for third place.

I would just like to see a lot of other teams go before we see the same team again. Somehow I think we will see Crosby again before many other teams have gotten a chance. In the intrest of fairness to the fans of all the teams around the league I just dont dig that. I just dont see why the same team has already gone twice when there are so many other teams that should have a chance. Well I mean I know why, but I dont agree. Reference Canada....this is from the same press release that announced the 2011 Winter Classic:

The Calgary Flames will host an outdoor game against the Montreal Canadiens in February, 2011, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed Friday.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 20, at McMahon Stadium, home of the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. It's being dubbed the Heritage Classic — the same name given to the last NHL outdoor match on Canadian soil, held in November 2003 between the Canadiens and the Oilers at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium.

That's what I'm here for Pops :D

First win at the Joe for the Flyers since 1988 :td Wings played an uninspiring game. Got outplayed 1st and 2nd period and then turned it on in the 3rd. Our offense hasn't really been affected without Datsuyk and Cleary. Hudler is finally playing better.

I'm interested to see how Rolosson is going to play in net for the Lightning.. If he can go back to his Edmonton days then things could get interesting.

I was going to say something about Kane. Saw the clip when old man Selanne made Kane look not so good and drew the penalty. Hoping Sharks can catch the Stars in the next week.

I remember some people doubting the Canucks at the start of the year. They are in first if anyone is looking for them and seem to be on an upswing. Oo and Atlanta is not to bad and Fugly is a stud. Tom that trade will bite the Hawks in the arse it appears for years.

America v. America jr. :r. In a grudge match of last years finals where the US took gold (twists knife). I will say Canada has looked amazing at times this year and while the US is undefeated some were squeakers. I expect the Canadians to play insane from the drop. A second loss to the US would be a friggin national tragedy.

Hawks certainly did not want to trade Big Buff, the salary cap just left them little choice. I am happier than a hog in chit to see him do so well there. Hawks just have to hope Morin lives up to his potential, so at least they get some benefit.

Canada takes a 4-1 victory. Pretty impressive win from the Canucks, team USA really didn't look like they were in the game other then Jack Campbell. It could have very easily been 7 or 8 to 1.

It was cool watching two IceHogs (Morin and Leddy) and one soon to be IceHog (Olsen) in a game of that magnitude. Should be could to chat with them about the whole experience.

Also Tom I got to go to a Hawks practice last week to interview some former hogs for a piece we are putting together for theahl.com. Got into the dressing room after practice while all the other media had to wait outside, it was a pretty cool experience.

Agree, USA looked like they were a man down at even strength... Had a hard time getting it through the NZ, let alone getting solid offensive chances... IMO, just looked totally overmatched....

Olsen's dad does camps/private lessons here.... He kinda the guru of skating in the area.... Hope to have the LM skating with him this summer for 8-10 sessions give or take, guess some of that will depend on how they click....

They had some pregame interviews on the radio on the way in. I believe it was heatley who made some comment about some guys may be struggling with motivation in such a long season. Really? He fuc& face how about its your fuc&in job. I swear success ruins some people. Highligh of the night for me was Dion hits heatley on the boards as soon as he turns Clowe comes in and blows his ass up on the wall. He chirps Clowe who asks him to dance over and over. Clowe and everyone else knew that PUS$Y was not going to fight. I hate that guy. Same as always he wants to lay the wood, but wont fight anyone his own size. I saw Clowe chirping him after that when he got the chance.

I hope Orr is suspended for the knee on knee hit on Logan. He left the ice and never returned. How that was not a major was beyond me. Intent looked clear. Sharks pissed away multiple power plays including the one on orr. First time since 96-97 they have lost 5 straight at home. These guys are bad. We need dmen so bad. Lastnight the bull Durham mound scene just kept coming to mind. Bunch of headcases. Clowe is a beast nice to see Pavelski back he has missed 8. Now Mitchell and Logan are out. That Huskins delay of game penalty in the third just summarized him in a nutshell. Sharks get momentum take a penalty then he makes it a 5 on 3. Honestly you look at the gms deadline moves for years and he should be fired for them. Huskins. And Wallin were both deadline pickups and are horrible. I would bring up some rookies at this point

Av's O'Reilly stretchered off in win over Wild
(AFP) – 11 hours ago

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — Colorado center Ryan O'Reilly was stretchered off the ice after crashing head first into the boards in the Avalanche's 4-1 NHL victory over Minnesota.

An Avalanche official said O'Reilly had movement in his arms and legs but was taken to a local hospital Friday for further evaluation.

Colorado led 2-0 when O'Reilly fell while chasing the puck alongside Minnesota's Matt Cullen early in the second period.

Play was halted for about 10 minutes as trainers attended to the motionless player.

Avalanche coach Joe Sacco gathered his players near the bench in an effort to help them regain their concentration before play resumed.

"What I tried to right after that happened and he went off was just tell the guys that he was going to be fine and make sure that we stayed strong within the game," Sacco said.

"Sometimes you tend to drift a little bit when you see a teammate go off like that. It's just human nature."

Tomas Fleishmann extended the Avs' lead to 3-0 in the second period with a shot that went between the legs of rookie goaltender Anton Khudobin.

Kevin Porter, Milan Hejduk, Fleischmann and Ryan Wilson scored for Colorado, while Andrew Brunette scored for Minnesota.

Goalie Craig Anderson said the Avalanche were more motivated after O'Reilly was injured.

"He was moving and it sounds like he's OK," Anderson said. "You've got to find a way to pick him up. It was our job and our duty to win the game for him."

Not to make excuses, but injuries make it hard to really measure the two.

The Wings are far more decimated with injuries than the Pens are at this point. Don't forget Holmstrom as well.

Jumbo takes a bs call then no call for obst for sharks infront of net on a scoring opportunity, then jumbo gets cutt bad on the ffaceoff with a highstick a lot of blood and no call either. Stitches or glue and everything.

Wow. I hate breaking out the crutches, but serious bs.

Damn Sharks take a delay of game now. 3 left. Not good. Sharks should havr been on pp for jumbo highstick makes it that much worse.

Focker should shart him self like he does every year in the playoffs, but knowing life he wont and instead stuff it up the sharks arse.

Was very glad to see the Sharks get the win as I really think they got hosed by the refs. how four guys missed that high stick and the fountain of blood it created was crap. I hope someone gets a are you blind phone call. Luongo got the #1 star and deserved it. The Sharks really out played the Canucks tonight. Luongo made some amazing saves to get it to OT. That said that 4-3 pk by the Sharks in OT was beauty.

I am hoping he Isles get him so he can mentor the two new kids. Dipi doo is DONE IMHO.

But even if we claim him would he accept? I personally doubt it except for this scenario:

He comes here for the rest of this season to mentor Lawson/Poulin and uses us to get back to NHL play/conditioning. Kinda like NHL teams use thier AHL affiliates (after all The Isles would or close to an AHL caliber team). he would also gt to work with the legendary Billy Smith. I hear that. On second read of the details, the Isles have two choices if Nabby refuses to report - suspend him or waive him. There is no order of precedence for this second waiver. If they waive him the Wings will claim him. The way Snow is talking, the Isles will not let him go. Good for him. I hope he can make it work.

The Sharks did not need a goalie who craps his pants in the playoff and has a few seasons left. Last year he made some comments about his value and his value to the team and there were somethings said both ways that was not positive. Part of the reason he played better in the playoffs at times last year was it was a k year. That said there was a reason the Sharks did not even make an offer of any shape or kind. This was during the regular season also. When asked the GM always refused to discuss the mater. Nabokov was alleged to have made some comments regarding how the Sharks needed him, and other teams wanted him. It was not a great relationship in the end.

Sharks are said to be intersted stlil...they are not happy with the Antis...

Did you read that somewhere and if so can I have the link. I had not heard this. My buddy laughed when I asked about it saying they had 2 goalies not playing great, why would they bring him in and create a couple of headcases. They wouldnt want him for the playoffs so why would they want him to get the starts during the regular season and make the 2 goalies they intend on using rusty? Bringing him in makes less then no sense and would move the team backwards. Well atleast thats what my buddy said feeling was. Remember the Sharks were the ones who said GTFO. I would just want to read the GM stating he wanted him because it goes against the talk I hear from people working at the rink.

We learned a lot of interesting things during this Evgeni Nabokov saga, and one of them is that the San Jose Sharks are actively looking for an upgrade in goalie. The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta tweets that the Sharks put in a claim for Nabokov, which means they aren't happy with their current goaltending.

Had the Sharks landed Nabokov, it likely would've meant Antti Niemi or Antero Nitttymaki would've been hitting the trading block. Given Niemi's one-year deal, he might've been the odd man out.

But more interestingly, this reveals a lot about the future of the Sharks' goalies. First off, it probably means Niemi isn't going to be retained beyond this season. If you'll remember, the Sharks nabbed Niemi in free agency after the Blackhawks declined his arbitration number. After leading the Hawks to a Stanley Cup, Niemi was obviously hoping to have a big year and earn a huge contract next offseason -- but that probably isn't happening after this year. As for Niittymaki, Sharks GM Doug Wilson was hoping he'd be the answer in goal for at least the next two seasons, but that hasn't been the case. So perhaps the Sharks will look for an upgrade in goal, if that becomes available in the next few months.

Here you go, Mike. I cut and pasted it in case you aren't an ESPN Insider subscriber.

Only if he was on their roster as a restricted free agent and was signed to an offer sheet. The wing will either get nothing [Isles keep Nabby] or they will get Nabby if the isles waive him or attempt a trade with a a 3rd team. There is no compensation due.

I thought I just read that all the teams who put in a claim would have first rights if he is waived. The team lowest in the standings would have first right. Given Toms post Sharks would get him before wings. Found another rumor that said Hawks put in claim. There are no main sources going on record so its kind of hard to know who put in claims.

I kind of wonder if both Sharks and Hawks alleged claims have as much to do with hurting the Wings as getting Nabokov. I still want to believe the trainer I know who said they wouldnt want him in the playoffs so why would we have him play the season.

Interesting. I know in the NFL the Lions started using their low standings to their favor and grabbing guys (off the waiver wire) they know were wanted; just so they could trade them for 7th round pics. It ended up netting them a few decent players in the long run.

Sharks are in desperate need of Dmen its no secret. If they got him they may be able to grab one solid dman in exchange. I was under the impression that only applied if he was put on waivers before a trade and that if he was simply waived then it was a free for all with no restrictions. :sh The situation seem highly convoluted so I could be wrong in my assessment. There is also speculation that the Isles could make an appeal to the League to shelf the contract until 20011-12, keeping Nabby from being a free agent this summer and forcing him to play a year on the island. Sounds like a prison sentence to me. ;s:r

In March of 1968, The Spectrum's roof either collapsed or blew off causing them to move their home games to other venues. At the time, the Flyers minor league affiliate was in Quebec City, so they played several games there. According to wiki, they played the Oakland Seals in New York and Boston in Toronto also. They must have lost those games since only three of their wins were at a 'home away from home'.

Based on what mclellan said and wellwood said. The coach Mclellan pealed the paint after the second period. Nice to see the team respond, but to say he appeared pissed is putting it mildly. Hell of a comeback and Eager and Wellwood played a big part in the hustle and heart area.

Wrong puck...Pronger took game 4's puck, not game 6's. Unless there's a story he took that one too. :sh

Terrible showing by the Flyers last night. Got in an early 3-0 hole and couldn't even begin to dig themselves out of it. 0-3 against the Lightning this year, a team they could likely meet in the playoffs. They better figure something out.

No proof on the Game 6 puck, but if you'll steal one its not out of bounds to suggest that it might be habitual. Just instigating. Oh, is instigation still a penalty? Off to the box then. "You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free.":r

Seriously though, the Flyers scare me the most going into the playoffs so here's hoping they don't figure it out this year. ;)

I'd love to hear more of this story.

Thats his nickname, and I thought about not using it, but meh.
Arse!

as to the story. Males and Hedican were doing a post game discussion saying it was a great win because they battled back scorring 5 goals in under 21minutes to win the game and Staylock the rookie stood on his head. Drew made fun of them saying typical players. No one should be happy and everyone should be pissed because it showed they didnt play and had no motivation again for almost 40 minutes. Then Pavs and a few players sacked up after the coach ripped them a new arse and won the game. No one should be happy etc etc and only players would be happy right now.

Maley is a classic hard nose guy who kind of had that bit$ch stfu reply and made fun of Drew saying having only been a coach and clearly not a good one because hes doing color now his opinion wasnt very important. Also he stated of course the players were pissed, that didnt need to be mentioned.

Nowing Maley a little and having had some talks with him I could tell he wanted to choke Drew right through the monitor and was extremely irritated. Kind of funny. Also funny hes dying his hair. :r

Wings getting Cleary back tonight; Datsyuk and Holmstrom due back this weekend. Getting these three back should be a big help.
