Last night it was The Airborne Toxic Event @ Town Hall. It was an amazing show. I paid a little extra for the "Meet & Greet" package that included a live CD/DVD combo and about 30 minutes hanging with the band prior to the show. - Well worth it. They were all very cool and personable. I can't wait for the next album due out early 2011.

Saw two this past month....

Took our daughter to the CNE for the free bandshell concert from "Down With Webster" - not our music but she liked it.

This past weekend was a large local fundraiser with Blue Rodeo as the headliner.

I know.... Canadian content - most won't know who I am talking about but they are both big here.

Last month, I saw Skillet with Decyfer Down and Jars of Clay at Rock the Universe in Orlando. Like always, Skillet killed it onstage. I saw him twice with Velvet Revolver, Lumpy, but obviously the spotlight should be more on him at this show rather than Scott Weiland.

I had up front seats for the Guns'n'Roses show in Chicago in April 2002 that Axl decided to skip to avoid possible arrest on charges stemming from a riot he incited in St. Louis earlier on the tour. :td

Yeah, obviously it's a Slash show, but the guy he has/had singing for him, Myles Kennedy, is... well, I'll let you decide.

Did you hear about G'n'R at the Reading and Leeds festivals this year? Long story short, at Reading, Axl left instructions not to be woken if he was asleep, so no one woke him up for the set, they went on an hour late, got cut off. Axl blamed his road crew, and fired them all. Next day, at Leeds, he realised he didn't have time to hire a new crew, and was forced to re-hire all the crew he'd just fired. Tw@t.

Just got back from seeing Elvis Costello last night and I must say he is simply AMAZING!!! This was the second time i saw him. Last year he did all "unplugged" BlueGrass, this year "Big Wheel-O-Songs" which he broke out into Prince's Purple Rain at one point. Then at the end Peter Wolfe came out to join him. This guy just knows how to ROCK and loves performing.

Saw the Stones and The Who last time they were through PDX. Both incredible shows.

Interesting observation; the wife wanted to see the Stones, and I was lukewarm....until after the show. Damn, those guys rocked the house for almost three hours..!! Just awesome. She was lukewarm to see The Who until after the show. I asked her what she thought.....she said "...you know, the Stones were awesome, but these guys were MUSICIANS..!!..."

Different but both awesome, we loved them both...!!

I know this is a little off topic. But I missed Jimmy Buffet at "Greatwoods" in MA for the first time in 17 years last night. Getting married and having the wife in school full time, just couldn't bring myself to pay for the tickets.
Instead we had a huge tailgaiting party in the back yard and listened to it live on the radio. Next best thing!!!

Spoonman
Pretty Noose

I caught the Stone Temple Pilots on 11-5 at the Concho Casino, El Reno, Ok.

They started 2 hours late with no warm up band. But put on a good show.

The Concho Casino is the worst place I've ever been to.

It's a hard tent in a old parking lot, 3000 people with only one pair of 36" entry/exit doors, in a fire people would die.

Looking on Youtube, I found news videos where the tent had blown down during a thunderstorm 10 or 11 months ago.

Your mileage may vary, but I'm not going back to Concho.

I use to go to concerts all the time when I was a teenager, but now they’ve become so damn expensive! I am choosier about who I see and where is it. If I’m not in the front row, it’s not worth the price of admission.
So the last concert I saw was Grinderman….Another one of Nick Cave’s reincarnations. It has a great garage sound with hardcore lyrics. It was a great concert and I was upfront. Glad I went because they broke up just recently.

Anthrax, Testament, and Death Angel - Friday 1/27/2012

I missed Death Angel unfortunately, would have loved to catch those dudes. Everyone that caught this part said they tore it up though.

Testament - With Alex Skolnick back on guitar and Gene Hoglan on drums... DESTROYED. Eric Peterson is an amazing guitarist and to hear him with Alex again is just awsome. Then you toss in Gene Hoglan on drums and its just over the top.

Anthrax -- Minus Scott Ian (out sick) and Charlie Benante (left, mom is terminally ill). Despite being down two of its core members... Anthrax prodded on. They pulled in Gene Hoglan on drums and Robbie and Teddy from Death Angel filled in on guitar when they could. You could clearly hear the difference when it was just one guitar, but really... It was still a solid show. Joey sounds better than ever and Frankie is one of the funnest dudes to watch play ever... and they had Gene Hoglan on drums... GENE HOGLAN!

Great show - if they come through your neck of the woods, I highly suggest checking it out. Scott is back on stage, and I'm sure Gene is nailing down the parts even better than he already had been.

I bought my ticket for Thrice's farewell tour in Atlanta.

The bad part? It is 2 hours south of here on a Sunday night and the doors open at 7:30pm. Concert will probably start around 8:00 or 8:30 - then Animals as Leaders will play an hour - an hour and a half set and then Thrice will play for an hour and a half - two hours. Which puts me having to drive 2 hours north starting at 12:30 am.

Oh - and I work the next morning >.<

It'll be worth it, though :tu

Animals as Leaders is amazing. Tosin Abasi is a master. He uses every technique and then some. Plus, the man has style!

Last night, I saw All Shall Parish with Carnifex and The Contortionist. It was great!

Just got back from Thrice's farewell tour show in Atlanta.

The energy in that room was ASTOUNDING. I was probably 10 people back at the beginning - because of everyone jumping I managed to make it up to the 3rd or 4th "row". Best show ever.

Animals as Leaders opened for them. Tosin Abasi was amazing - but I gained a TON of respect for their drummer. The man is a beast!

Now to go to bed. Work in 5 hours :(

The metal king Friday night - Elvis fronting a rock cover band. Fun stuff
Van Halen Sunday night in Las Vegas - great show and Ed looked and sounded great. His son really has grown into his roll in the band as well. I'll go see Michael Anthony on Sunday with chickenfoot. Busy week of rock.
