We've been using up some Tanzanian Peaberry (pre-ground :( ) that my mother handed me as she thought it was too bitter.

We received a Starsucks Holiday blend, that I'm dreading to grind...

Received a pound of Jammy Blue Mountain for Christmas.

Bought a 1/2 pound of "Pacific Rim Blend" from Whole Foods recently. It was so fresh and oily that I just couldn't pass it up. I was actually there to buy a bunch to give my brother.
I told him when he got the big ziplock bag and (by force) unwrapped them - they were still offgassing!

I was told by an employee it was aged Sumatra this year for thier holiday blend. I had some in a press while I was there and it was decent.

This is Guatemala Hue Hue25%, Colombian Patron50%, and Costa Rican La Magnolia25%....I should have went a lot darker with this roast.....or a higher % of the Colombian. This has some good caramel, chocolate notes in my drip machine.

Has anyone else had it? Does it have the typical Starbucks 'burnt' taste to it?

Just poured some Whole Foods Naragansett Blend in the grinder this morning.
I needed a break from the Tanz-Peaberry. It's a nice smooth flavor profile, but I needed a little more today - it's Friday afterall.

Got some french roast from a local roaster on Monday from Whole Foods. It was delivered to the store that day and looked very fresh. In fact, it was so oily it was almost dripping.

I didn't care for it. I think I just don't like french roasts though. Anyway, I mixed it with some 8 o'clock coffee columbian at about 1 part french to 2 parts 8 o'clock and it was actually pretty darn good that way.

Taina blend from UncleBeanz..........wow, its out of this world....

The 2008 return of Taina. The original blend is back in the house! My family members are decendants of the Taino Indians. "Taina" is my newly created blend dedicated to the women of my family. The Taina blend has a slightly floral aroma on the grind. It has a firm and consistent body, some chocolate and caramel notes and very light acidity. Complete, unique. Sweet and clean.

Only a mild body quiver so far.Blame would be fine. :D Moka + sweetened condensed milk/ice is an excellent way to develop a quiver factor. Nice choice. Recently, enroute to Maine (http://www.suffolk.edu/images/content/Biology/-ffs-su_1presentation_cut_down_for_web_52004PDF.pdf), I stopped at Miss Saigon for lunch in DC and finished up with two viet-iced jobbies. Brazil Mogiana sometimes called "yellow bourbon". City roast done in my french press. Apparently most brazilians are used as part of on expresso blend but I'm very lucky to have an insanely good coffee store (http://www.laveggiocoffee.com/home.html) in my town and they do this particular bean in a city roast and sometimes a viennese which I haven't tried yet. So if you're ever passing through Binghamton, NY (yeah right) and you love coffee don't miss this place. Best espresso I've ever had and that includes lots of places I've tried on visits to NYC

Under a big old rock! Been having a hectic time trying to make ends meet recently, but hopefully it's all a little more on track now...

I see you've all managed quite well in my absence... I almost feel like a parent, proud that their teenage children haven't trashed the house too noticeably after leaving them at home to go on holiday.

What do you use for a roaster? Just curious. I've seen several talk about using a hot air (popcorn) popper... saw one for a buck the other day at a garage sale and almost bought it, but I suspect a regular roaster is better.

Our local roaster did this in a city roast. Very nice. But he also did a darker roast for espresso. I had one at the shop today - amazing. The bright and almost citrus impression I get in the light roast drip coffee makes a powerful fruit sensation in the espresso. RE: The coffee I got at Sam's.

It's been my experience that Sam's won't keep anything nearly that long if it's not selling. They are not bashful to get rid of it and chalk it up to experience. I first saw it on their shelf about 3 months ago and it was considerably higher then. Although it apparently didn't sell well, (no name recognition) it is "Farmer Friendly" coffee out of the El Recreo Estate in Jinotega region of Nicaragua and roasted by Mayorga Coffee out of Maryland. For those whose tastes are not quite as exclusive as using hand-roasted coffee, or those who don't have their own garage roaster, I found it more than adequate. Living on a fixed income, I like to find a good buy myself. Ground coarsely and in a french press, it tastes like "cafe" coffee to me, but I may be wrong. I know it paired quite well with the Frank Llaneza 1961 I had today.
