Costa Rican coffee is spot-on! A good majority of beans I've had from that Country was good stuff. I still have some Costa Rica Peaberry green beans awaiting to be roasted.

Prior to leaving Costa Rica, I had the opportunity to visit and tour Cafe Brit. CB sits on the slopes of 5 volcano's and some pretty fertile soil. Enjoyed seeing the fields, processing process, roasting of the green beans, how they taste, and of course, drinking of the final product.

There are other growers (co-ops, etc) in Costa Rica that produce coffee beans, and there is some good stuff that originates from that Country.

Today it was some freshly roasted Kenya Nyeri Hill AA. I have stocked up on several varieties of Kenya green beans recently.

Picked up 2 kilos of Cubita that is a nice change of pace from Mayorga or Peets. I like to rotate coffee. Once the first kilo is gone I'll switch to our regular beans.

Funny how Mayorga is a "Cuban Style" coffee but everything about it is so different from Cubita which I assume would the "real deal"? Cubita is a lighter roast and tastes more like Colombian coffee.

What's the other big Cuban grown coffee brand in the burgundy colored bag?

You know what suprised me about moving to Miami? Whole bean coffee isnt to be found. Its not in stores and the few local roasters want like $20 a pound for average coffee. So I mail ordered from my favorite plave in Houston. Drinking a single farm Guatemalan that is a favorite.


Oh and Houston has better restaraunts too. Better beaches here though. :)

After realizing that caffeine just isn't for me anymore, l've switched over to decaf and am really focusing on making it part of my morning routine so I have some time to reflect and relax before starting to work. Even more important now that I'm just working from home.

When I was roasting at home, iirc, I’d take that right to second crack. Maybe even just shy of it. But that was a long time ago and I no longer have my notes. So take it for what it’s worth.

I'm thinking that most of the single origins may be on the lighter side roast-wise. I have really enjoyed all of the single origins that I have had from them!


They do have a couple of blends that are labeled as medium roast, and that may be something to try too?

A Fellow Wide mouth mug - I use a commuter type mug in the car but prefer these for drinking at home, office, etc. It is double-walled stainless and lined with ceramic so that you don't get a metallic taste.

You can also buy frozen White Castle hamburgers on line or at grocery stores all over the U.S Not quite the same as fresh cooked in person, but pretty decent anyway. Their coffee blend is made by Wallingford, I think.

Roasted up 2 batches each of: Tanzanian BCT Select Peaberry and some Columbian Supremo BCT Select to just before 2nd crack. Mix those up well, and that's what we will drink for about the next two weeks.

Sampling the coffee is part of my ten point inspection program. No, I'm not Bacon Brian, I don't raid the breakfast bar.)

The coffee was surprisingly good, but the parking garage was poorly lit and had almost no cameras. Not a fan of that.

Everything I have had from them has been great! For me this coffee was no exception - I fond it to have great balance and didn't have to adjust anything for it at all.

Everything I have had from them has been great! For me this coffee was no exception - I fond it to have great balance and didn't have to adjust anything for it at all.

This is my flavor profile as of lately. I do my own roasting and am having a hard time finding this sweet zone though.

Yes. The coffees I drink are quite flavorful without overpowering or excessively bitter like I find with dark roasted beans.

I sold my roaster a while back. I do miss it. But like most things with me, I was cyclical.

brewing in the GE Café brewer at 205deg 80g of grounds 10c of water, Revel’s Colombia Washed Nitro Caturra. Frozen 10 days after roast and 4 days out of the freezer.

First sip right out of the carafe was a berry bomb!

Then I burnt my tongue testing a chimichurri dip for dinner tonight :mad3:

Second pour after it has cooled a bit in my glass, maybe the power of suggestion, but watermelon jolly rancher.

I had a bag from them previously this year, completely forgettable an Ethiopia Yirga Cheffee, that had my expectations really, really low for this. But this bag is a stunner.

The description on their website suggest this for espresso, but I would hate wasting any of this bean trying to dial it in.

Using some torque coco drop beans for iced vanilla lattes today.

And we made some copy cat Philz iced mint mojitos. Holy crap I didn’t know these were made with heavy cream. Tried using whole milk but it didn’t quite taste the same. The heavy cream brought it to another level, a level of clogged arteries. I don’t think these will be in the rotation.
