The Lockout is Over! Or so say the Bengals.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/22/bengals-declare-lockout-to-be-over/
:hm
Any owner that can say “I’m not expecting [Carson Palmer] to be back. Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment. He gave us his word. We relied on his word and his commitment. We expected him to perform here." with a straight face and somehow trying to stand behind the integrity of an NFL contract is a first class douche... Congrats Mike Brown, winner of the Pro Sports Douche Bag Owner of the Year award.
I will assume that Mr. Brown will be honoring all contacts signed by the Bengals from this point forward... It will be nice for players on the Bengals roster to know that they will never be cut to bring someone else in or as a salary cap move.... Apparently the Bengals will be honoring their word and their commitment to all contracts....

Mike Brown will be honoring his commitment to attempt to put a competitive team on the field. Unfortunately he will be finishing last in the division again. :tu
I think it would be hilarious if Carson shows up for camp after they sign a veteran QB and force them to pay him, the veteran, and Dalton (whom will be paid like a first rounder). Then Mike has to cut him. Carson will likely retire and laugh all the way to the bank and he still wins. There is no senario that Mike Brown wins in this. :tu

Two preseason games in:
10 total points from the offense to 61 given up.
6 turnovers to 0 takeaways.
408 yards total to 728 yards given up.
Going to be a long year for the Bungles. The whole city might be on suicide watch because the Reds and Bengals both suck this year. What is Dan going to do if the Suckeyes Suck? :hm :td

Look at Mike Brown as a person/owner and look at his history of mis-management and only caring about his pocket book. The product on the field will never be championship quality because Mike Brown doesn't care. :td

We do like to draft QBs lately. Clausen, Armanti Edwards, Cam. Why not get Luck next?:r He probably wouldn't sign if we drafted him anyway. If he does decide to go pro, he'll probably by dying to go to SF.

Edwards isn't a QB, but I see your point. Luckily the Bengals appear to be trying for the #1 pick this year. They might be able to beat the 49'ers and the Browns at home this season. :sh
Mike Brown will still find a way to get the worst out of a top 10 pick. AJ Green looks like he might pan out, but his first rounders of late haven't been all that great. I am still wondering why Mike Brown didn't trade down to Atlanta for 5 picks to let them take Green and still be able to pick Julio Jones. Mike Brown's incompetence knows no bounds. :bh

It wasn't a cheap shot, but yes, in the playoffs you never know. They are still going to be hard pressed to get the Wild Card at 8-8, or even 9-7, as that probably puts them 3rd in their own division. :sh

It isn't a bad trade yet. Mike Brown has a tendency to make some terrible draft picks. The Raiders made an effort to win now, the Bengals are still in their 'rebuilding' mode they have been in for the last 20 years. I think most will be surprised that Carson has some better days ahead. Mike Brown never made the commitment to surround Carson with a team while he was in Cincinnati, ironically enough he has made decent moves around Dalton to help him succeed. Had the same been done for Palmer, he may have still been in Cincinnati. Mike Brown gets two picks, but he can screw them up just like he does with a lot of his other picks/players.

If Mike Brown screws up a first round pick and at worst a second round pick, it's irrelevant to the fact that he got that for a retired player with a dead arm.

Wrong, Houshmanzadeh was an excellent receiver, Johnson, not so much. Look at what Johnson has done in New England when he has to actually run routes and be a productive member of the team. He notoriously doesn't work hard, doesn't run the right routes and is lazy on plays he doesn't get the ball. Carson also had a very good offensive line in front of him. Look at the stats decline when he lost Richie and Steinbach and Willie.
Carson also wanted a voice in the situation, and was never given one. He was forced to throw to primadona receivers to get them their stats and play in a predictable system. For most of the time Carson played for the Bengals, the team was run by Brown and the locker room run by the players. Sadly, it appears Lewis may finally have more control and the lack of egos in the locker room is benefiting the Red Rocket, instead of Carson. ;)

It is if he dumps millions into out-of-shape lineman (see: Andre Smith) or a moron (see: O'dell Thurman) or an overused college running back (see: Chris Perry). Then it would be very relevant. Carson's tank/arm isn't done, we'll see how much he really has left in a few weeks. :tu

That may have been a tough loss, but the Bengals are bringing some game. They played damned good ball today. Dalton is an exciting prospect and easy to build a team around. He's not going to need a lot of marquee flash and dazzle around him to field a competitive team.
The Bengals are bringing some class back to our division and some good, competitive division ball, and that's good for the whole division.
Now if the Browns would just crawl in a hole and die like real men, we'd be able to have even more divisional pride. :tu

The AFC north is the toughest division in all of football (-Brownies of course). That Dalton kid played extremely well despite the one pick at the end of the game. The first pic wasn't even his fault. I don't think we even got to him for a sack the whole game. We usually devour rookie QB's. Dalton is going to be major staple for this team in the future.
I know one thing for sure....I will be a Bengal fan next week for another big show down against the Ravens! I hope the black and orange get it done!

Not to mention that they could have called "in the grasp" and Dalton could have been called down on that play instead of the grounding penalty they did call. Newton is statistically better on a bad team. Dalton will likely finish with a winning record on a decent team. Somehow the Bengals might make the playoffs despite finishing 2-4 in their division. It will be interesting to see. I think Newton wins because of the hype going into the season, and somehow he lived up to it. :tu

A.J. Green is definitely a game changer. When he is in the game, Dalton can just throw it up high in his vicinity and Green 9 times out of 10 will go up and get it. He kind of reminds me of Randy Moss.

Man, the more that I look at it, the more I'm convinced that the Jets are going to edge the Bengals out for the final wildcard spot. Hope I'm wrong, though, because there's a whole lot to not like about the J-E-T-S and the Bengals have built themselves a nice, young team.

Even if the Bengals beat out the Jets, or any other team who may make the playoffs, they will likely have the quick departure from them (similar to the Reds when they played the MLB's weakest schedule).

Very, very true. The refs screwed us big time ONCE AGAIN on the no block in the back call on the punt return, and that really swung the momentum around. You can't blame it on the refs though. The defense has to make some stops.

Huge 'IF' for the Bengals. Unfortunately they have to play the Ravens, who ARE playing for something or they stay home for the playoffs. Either way, 9-7 is a huge success considering they should have been 7-9 at best if any of the teams were playing decent when they had them on the schedule. :sh

Well, no one can claim that that is the reason why the Bengals won. If Pacman hadn't jumped in the air too early on one of the previous plays, we would have intercepted Skelton and the game would have been over.

I used to have season tickets for a couple seasons. The ketchup is mediocre at best. Mike Brown is such a tight ass. He won't turn the down escalator on until the 4th quarter to discourage you from leaving and taking your money home. I've poked around and I really can't find anything definitive and I was hoping one of the Bengal loyalists could help me out. Why did the Bengals trade Keith Rivers for a 5th round pick? Did they just grow weary from paying him to be on the trainers table all the time? There's no denying the man's talent (he was consistently thought of the best linebacker on a USC squad composed of himself/Rey Maualuga/Brian Cushing/Clay Matthews III) but you can't contribute if you're always hurt. Didn't know if it went beyond his health or not..
Now watch, he'll play 16 games for the Giants next season and be a pro-bowler (if there is such a thing).

Offense is still looking spotty, may be the the play calling (or at least it seems). Dalton just doesn't look comfortable. The good news for Bengals fans: The defense is out of sight so far. :tu

I really enjoyed the roller coaster game Sunday. We got a win over a GREAT team. Also, I love Dave Lapham. He may be a homer, but he has great calls. All you hear is screaming :r

Pac Man Jones must have been doing some screaming too. After the game, at an Ohio State Highway Patrol officer. :r

Why should he....Michael Vick got back in for murdering defenseless animals.
The primary reason why I have very little interest in NFL football.
