Man I haven't had a beer haul in a while, might have to make a trip up to Wegmans soon.
I can usually find some gems there:
http://www.wegmans.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10052&catalogId=10002&langId=-1&partNumber=COLLECTION_37159

Its funny you mention that. Im on my way to Wegmans shortly to grab some beers myself. They have a fantastic selection.

KS was a little late getting SN Ruthless Rye IPA, but I finally got ahold of a 12pk today.
It will be my SuperBowl beer if I can keep my hands off of it until then!

Dave, do you know if they shipped some cases of the CW BBB down to Chicagoland?

I can't believe it but my local beer store still has a few cases of CW BBS. I may have to pick up one more before they're gone.

If your store got in BBS there is a chance you might get BBB. I would talk to the owner or manager and see what they know. Also find out the day(s) they get in CW.

Came upon a six pack of Ale Asylum Ballistic (IPA)
http://aleasylum.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/ballistic.png

and a six pack of Ale Asylum Satisfaction-Jacksin (DIPA)
http://aleasylum.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/satisfaction-jacksin.png

Heard good things about Ale Asylum. Really looking forward to diving into these two taste treats.

From left to right:
DFH Noble Rot (one for me and one for Tony:tu)
Cigar City/Bruey Collaboration - Dos Costas Oeste - Lemon wood aged (2)
Cigar City/Bruey Collaboration - Dos Costas Oeste - Grapefruit wood aged
Cigar City/Bruey Collaboration - Dos Costas Oeste - Cedar wood aged
Pugsley (cat not beer)
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6807208301_f6281ab6f2_z.jpg

We'll be tasting these on Monday night as part of a smaller tasting group. I'm going to bring a bottle of Sauternes to try along side the DFH Noble Rot to see how it compares to the "classic" Botrytis/Noble Rot wine (not saying the beer should taste like wine, but just to see how they did getting the classic noble rot flavors into the beer).

The CCB/Bruery beers should be interesting, they are 9% ABV "saisons" aged on spirals of the described wood. We got to try the cedar aged one a few months ago at a tasting, to say it was intensely flavored would be putting it mildly, we'll see how its shaped up. :tu

Just visited Marietta's new growler store and came home with a 64oz growler of ST 2xIPA and 32oz growler of Lenny Big Eddy Stout. Having a growler store within walking distance of the house might prove useful and a problem all at the same time :D

One of my friends scored both a 1989 and 1998 vintages. It's unreal how well this beer can age. I prefered the 98 vintage, 89 fell off a bit but was still good. It's an odd beer between 3-6 years old.. Between those years, people tend to not like it as much.. I guess kinda a "sick" period.

First:

Collaboration No. 2 White IPA a beer made by both Boulevard Brewing and Deschutes.

Second:

Wachusett Larry an excellent Imperial IPA put out by a local brewery. I really wish I could get this beer in a 6-pack.

English Style barleywines are hard to get into Týr. I didn't enjoy them at first, but now I love them. They are very sweet and malty, tons of caramel notes, toffee, chocolate, leather, ect.

Yup I felt the same and though I'd drink it again in the right mood, I wouldn't make any trade's for it.

Also agree with CWS and would add if your just trying the style to try one that is not barrel aged. English style Barleywine, like a vintage Brooklyn's Monster Ale, provide great complexity that is not obscured by the barrel aging contribution. Also, maybe try and American style, some incredible one's out there as well; again maybe not barrel aged. It's funny to me as I love barrel aged beers in general; and while I have enjoyed some barrel aged Barleywine's I mostly prefer them to not have been. But that may be just me.

Yeah I agree on the Barrel Aged aspect. That adds another level of flavor, some people don't like it. I think the bar is set with JW Lees Harvest Ale as far as non-barrel aged english barleywines are concerned. Had an 2002 Lees recently, drank much like a port. Maybe a little too sweet for my taste. Would have been great with a cigar..

Hmmmm, that is an interesting question, thinking back on it I have only been to the brewery for special releases when they had stuff set up outside (when they absolutely do allow smoking - I had a cigar at the end of Hunahpu last year).

I'm not sure if during normal operation they have seating outside or not. If they do, I'm sure you can smoke, I just don't know if they have outside seating normally (but I imagine they do).

Long story short, I will get an answer for you soon. :tu

As expensive as it is, I paid about $17 a sixer, its only $2 more than a lot of other Bell's products. And personally I don't mind paying that much when I pay upwards of $20 for some of the special releases that come in 750ml bottles.

Got an opportunity to tour Thomas Creek Brewery in Greenville, SC yesterday. It's a relatively small micro-brew facility, they put out 6,000 barrels last year, but it was awesome. We had several samples but my favorite was their Belgian-Style Imperial Porter: Conduplico :dr Plus they had a great deal on 'em, 2 750 ml bottles for $10! I picked up four of them and also swung by a local beer exchange and got some other treats. The Conduplico is 4th from the left:

No Bell's - I think the closest was PA or something when I looked before.
No Founders in NH. Apparently in VT which is just a few miles away but I haven't figured out where to get it yet.

To make myself feel better I was looking at Binnys, hoping to see that they didn't have some of the breweries closer to here like Smuttynose or Clown Shoes. But no such luck, they have it all :gary

I thought that "piggy" looked familiar. Back in the late 90', there was a brewery in Temecula, CA named "Blind Pig Brewery," and they produced a great little IPA for the period. Then I heard they folded and lost contact. Here's a bit from Wikipedia:

"Russian River Brewing Company was created in 1997 when Korbel Champagne Cellars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korbel_Champagne_Cellars) of Guerneville (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerneville), California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California) decided to try their hand at brewing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brewing) beer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer).[1] (http://www.russianriverbrewing.com/wordpress/rrbcwp.php) Brewer Vinnie Cilurzo (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vinnie_Cilurzo&action=edit&redlink=1) was hired as brewmaster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brewmaster). Korbel quit the brewing business, and sold the brewery to Cilurzo and his wife Natalie in 2002. Vinnie's Blind Pig brewery changed names to Russian River, remodeled and expanded in 2004, eventually moving to Santa Rosa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Rosa,_California), at their current 4th Street location. Cilurzo is regarded as one of the most innovative microbrewers in the country[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_River_Brewing_Company#cite_note-0) and credited with inventing the beer style Double India Pale Ale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_India_Pale_Ale), known alternately as Imperial IPA, when he was the head brewer at Blind Pig Brewing Company in Temecula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temecula), California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California)."

I visited my first Total Wine store recently in Florida. These places are AWESOME. I wish we had that chain up here. Unfortunately, we have some pretty out dated alcohol laws here in MA. I believe a corporation can only own so many liquor licenses. It really prevents large chains like this from coming into the area. Most liquor stores in these parts are mom & pop operations. Few supermarkets carry alcohol and some wholesale clubs have some locations that sell alcohol.

I haven't heard many good things about the 2012 yet. I want to kick my allergies I got right now before I crack a bottle. I had it fresh at KBS Day at Founder but it took the back seat to Bourbon Barrel Sumatra Brown another beer that was on tap that day. I personally think 2010 was the last year that KBS was great.

I scored a whopping 2 bottles. One other place had another bottle for sale but they wanted $8.99 for one 12oz bottle, I decided to pass.

It's never been this crazy around here for KBS. I think the beer world has exploded in the last year and a half based on how hard it has gotten to get certain beers.

That and Founder's has gone into multiple new markets without expanding production, though I hear they are supposed to be remedying that soon

They will triple the amount of KBS made next year compared to this year.

Same with Goose Island which has increased their distribution to the point were stores around here never see any of the hard to find stuff anymore.

This drove me nuts! The big Bud boys buys GI and forget all about the locals who helped make them what they'd become. Very disappointing.:td

Growing pains can be just that, all in all I am glad for the craft boom. Even the redneck bars now have at least a local beer on tap or something like Fat Tire. I understand that Fat Tire is nothing to flip out about but its a solid choice over the BMC dominance of years past

Oh sure, you expect good reasoning to squash the beginning of a perfectly fine silly grudge toward big Bud's latest acquisition. Probably will, nicely stated.

Good to hear! I was worried they wouldn't be as good as I'd hoped but now you've got me excited! We can't pick up 3 Floyds in FL either so as soon as I saw that bottle I grabbed it...may be my only chance to snag one :)

The "shoulda" list that I wish I had also bought after getting home is Espresso aged Yeti, Founders Rye IPA, Founders Centennial, Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous. This place had a LOT of stone. We get it here but not as many choices...
They also had Firestone XV but at $20 I hesitate to pay that for any beer.

it's funny, they don't drink that much beer. usually in the fridge they'll have shipyard export ale, dos equis, sam adams, long trail - nothing awful just nothing adventurous. gave them a couple of the beers i brewed - surly furious clone and stone ruination clone - and they actually claimed to like them a lot. i figured they would be put off by the big hops but i guess not.

I went out yesterday in search of a bottle or two of KBS. I had three stores targeted that were all in the same general vicinity. First stop...grabbed two bottles! I decided to continue my travels, but I wasn't able to get any more KBS. But hey, who walks into a liquor store and doesn't walk out with something? Not me! Here's yesterday's haul.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/jlail1973/KBS.jpg

Apparently I was in a Founders/DFH mood!

The third stop was one of those so-called out of the way, small places that most people won't go looking for something like this. That's where I was surprised to find a four pack of FBS.

That happened in NJ with CBS this year. Unreal. Somehow it wasn't 100% known KBS was coming this week in NJ. I asked a guy at the store if they were getting it and his answer was "We're not sure, and don't call and ask," alluding that regardless if they got it or not they would say no.

At least it gave me a fighting chance.

This is the kind of crap that drives me crazy. It's almost as bad as those automatic sequencers event companies use that crash Ticketmaster whenever a high profile concert goes on sale.

Makes me thankful that I homebrew and can recreate a reasonable alternative to these (often) overly hyped commercial beers.

LMAO.

We were lucky enough to pick up some at an out of the way liquor store last year. Obviously not so lucky this year. It is honestly one of the top 2 or so brews I've ever had. That and Surly Darkness. There are other very good stouts I've had, but they didn't hit me quite like this did. It's just another example of why there are so many brews and cigars out there...different tastes for different folks.

Gerard, if I had time to brew my own beer, I would. But it's just another expense that I don't really need to add to my life right now. LOL

Drove 10 hours round trip to Ithaca for the Leablu release and got totally shut out at the brewery. There way WAY more people there than they had cases, but for some reason they chose not to reduce the allotment so some 100+ people stood in line for 2 hours only to get no beer. Managed to pick up a bottle randomly chatting up a guy at lunch, so it wasn't a total loss and qualifies as a "haul" I guess.
