Nectar Ales Black Xantus
Black Xantus (pronounced Zantis) is truly a unique bird. An Imperial Stout aged in American oak barrels, infused with fresh organic/ fair-trade coffee from our local coffee roaster, Jobella Coffee Roasters. This special, limited release beer bursts with bourbon and espresso aromas leading into chocolate and black cherry flavor. It’s 11% ABV is softened by time in barrels which also contributes to the beer’s appeal. We are very proud of this new addition to the Nectar Ales family.

Sixth Glass is my second favorite behind Tank 7. I'm not good at describing flavors, I just know what I like. It's funny because, I haven't tried a SS series that I don't like. My wife says it's because they're $10-$12 a bottle. :r
My least favorite was the Brett-Saison, still good, as they all are, but there was something about it that I didn't care for as much.

You can get 4 packs for ten bucks...

On that note I love sixth glass. Probably my favorite Boulevard so far.

In my experience most pumpkin beers tend not to be very hoppy. Im a big fan of the Southern Tier Pumpking if you can find it. Dog Fish Head also makes a good one.

Cant get better than Dogfish Head and Weyerbacher

Just wanted to thank you guys for the recommendations. Picked up those three. The Pumking was great, the DFH was really good, and the Weyerbacher was outfreakingstanding. I went back looking for more to no avail. I can guarantee I'll be ready for them next year when they're released. :tu

Yep, at least compared to Buffalo Bill's. Less vanilla/whipped cream flavor than Shipyard and Pumking. More spice than DFH, among others.

Time to move on to stouts though, had my fill of pumpkin beer this year.

Red, see you are in c-bus, I'm in worthington/clintonville area off of highstreet. Should meet at a bar for smoke and beer when it gets warmer. I too am in a deep love affair with beer. Any and all I will try and my walls and shelves are overflowing with empty bottles (although recently I have been digitaly recording my adventures.)

I saw a number of photos of very heavy IPA's and different types of porters/stouts and wondered if these types of brews have ever reduced the enjoyment of your smoking experience? In the past a particular milk stout that I have tried thrice while smoking ( I was determined to make it work, lol) affected my tastebuds in a manner that turned the flavor of the stick I had very bitter, almost as if I had skipped through the entire good part and wound up at the end far sooner than I was willing to let go. Similar effects have come from extremely hoppy IPA's as well as chocolate stouts and many porters.

I've found that crisp, bitey Pilsners are by far the most pleasing to my palette when mixed with smoking. I also have really enjoyed the added richness brought to a smoking session by a heavy Belgium ale like Leffe. In particular I have found a Leiny's HoneyWeiss (with lemon) to be a good representation of the weight, gravity, viscousity, and ratio of hops:malt that truly compliment a cigar for my particular palette.

I don't always put so much thought into the beers I drink, and often these ideas are all retrospect. If I've drinking a lot my taste buds go lame and I may as well be drinking a nati' light and smoking a black b/c it's downright wasteful of me to drink/smoke.

Sorry for the long ramble, sitting at work dreaming of a stogie. This site is kinda like the patch for me, it doesn't stop my craving but sure takes my mind off of not being able to indulge rightthis moment. I'll stop now, lol. Later.

I actually think I saw that at Binnys yesterday, Moses....so you definitely recommend it?

Ya, it's a good "can have more than one" style Stout. Nice roasted coffee notes, decent body, but isn't a "4 pack and need a cab to get home" which I find with most craft beers.

Ipswich is a solid local brewer that does not chase the fads of the moment. Be curious to read your impressions as I know you like Guinness as do I.

Thanks. The beer sounds interesting, not a "normal" ale to be putting in bourbon barrels.

Agreed. Surly Abrasive is my favorite beer, and I've been drinking far too much of it this season. This beer is keeping me from purchasing more cigars!

Tony nailed it. I'm a big fan of the 21st Amendment beers that I've had, so I'm expecting more of the same with this one.

Me too! I should have bought two; one to enjoy and one to throw down in the cellar. I'll probably try this one soon, so if I really enjoy it I can track down a couple more.

Yesterday, I had the Ninkasi Total Domination. Decent IPA. Not sure it would crack my top 10 but I would certainly buy it again.

Today, I had the Ninkasi Tricerahops Double IPA. Very, very good DIPA. I was duly impressed. I will be getting more.

I'm not Albert, but good not great beer IMO, where's the kumquats? Just reminded me of a light tripel, I was really hoping to taste the fruit. Very nice, dry and drinkable beer...but nothing to knock down old women and children to get at IMO.

I had the Chocolate Chili Bock and the Red IPA which are in the same series as Third Voyage. They were OK not my favorite SA beers.

We just recently got Boulevard Brewery beers here in MA so I went out and bought two 4-packs. One was Double Wide Double IPA and the other was their beligian quad can't remember the exact name. The DIPA was pretty good but the quad was delicious.

Save a couple for 20 years and those will be amazing. I've got a few in the cellar along with some Rochefort 10's.. Both are better than Westvleteren 12 IMO, although I haven't had the Westy with more than a year on it. I've read tasting notes on 1980's vintages that sound killer..
