It was nice to see the boys hand the cards a 20-10 loss.
Granted, it means nothing, but boy, the cards need some work.
The Steelers are DEEP. It was good to see them so solid so deep in the lineup.
Dennis Dixon looked great. Nice pickup. I hope we hang on to him.
Ben, Charlie, and Dennis would be a great tandem.

I've started a Fantasy Football League on Yahoo. I want this to be open for us Steeler fans only. The entry fee will be 5 "good quality" NC Cigars . Now I wanted to keep this entry fee friendly to all. Some people don't have Cuban cigars, and not everyone has top of the line NC. So pm me if you have a question. And I don't think we will have a problem , judging from the pass that we all were a part of.

The site is Yahoo Fantasy Football.
League name: Steel Asylum
Password : Cigar
League I.D. # : 148428

We will have 10 teams, if we fill this one up and more people want to play, I'll start a second league.

Draft will be online live, on Sept 6, 2009 @ 8 pm. I picked this day because it is after the pre-season and the first regular season game is on the 10th.

I would like to have all the entry fee's collected and pictures posted before the draft.

1st place : 30 cigars plus a Steeler prize pack!!!!!!!
2nd place : 15 cigars
3rd place : 5 cigars

Steel Asylum:
1.Mikey202 - Infidels
2.marge796 - Steel Curtain

The Steeelers Nation knows no boundaries

Was in Cooke City, Montana last week (Yellowstone vacation) to look around and stopped in a local eatery for chow. They were showing a rerun pre-season game on a big screen TV, and there was a huge fantasy league roster hung on the diner counter. Steelers stuff EVERYWHERE, and some pics of Steeler players behind the bar. Owners are Pittsburgh transplants. You guys ARE everywhere!!!

While talking football with the owner, a lady in her 80's at the next table pipes in with football views; she's a Green Bay transplant to Montana who is actually a Vikings fan. I LOVE football!!! You can go anywhere in the US and find a friend to talk to, even if they aren't a Titan fan!

Titans gave you guys a tough one last night. I was very impressed, again, with the Steeler curtain.

I agree on the pump fake, it only works so many times. I hope the O-line and lack of the short game where only 1st game jitters. But with that being said I love the boys in Black & Gold!!!

Here's a Steelers song I never heard before. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvbcfXO1D-s)
I thought I heard them all. This one actually doesn't suck as much as most. :)

And so far as the O-line and pump fakes and lack of running game goes...
We were playing the Titans. Hello?
Anyone remember what the Steelers looked like against the Titans last year?
Ben spent most of the game on his back, the rest he spent seeing stars.
They are twice the team they were last year. Easily.
Troy was on fire. I'm surprised he didn't get hurt sooner. lol
We have Da Bears next week. See how many yards we get on the ground next week.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the lack of depth at wide receiver.
Even with that, Heath Miller was open all night long against the Titans.
He could have had 200 yards if Ben needed to check off.

ucla695
09-12-2009, 07:28 PM
Great point about Big Ben's protection package. He had more time to throw and they'll find a way to get the run going. It sucks that Troy's hurt...he's definitely a game changer with his athleticism.

Ben took the beating of his career in that game last year, and the Titans have improved. It says a lot about the team we have this year.
I think we're far deeper all over, but there is absolutely no substitute for the Polamalu factor. In all the years I have watched football (Dallas/Denver was the first superbowl I can remember, that was in 78), I can't think of any player who has ever singlehandedly changed the entire complexion of a ball game by stepping on the field.
Maybe Tony Dorsett. God, I loved to watch him run the ball.
But defensively, I cannot remember a player who was even remotely as talented.
Maybe Greg Lloyd. He was insane.

Here is another thing to ponder...... Are the linebacking duo of Harrison/Woodley better than Lambert/Ham? Lambert was a Bad-ass Muther####er back in the day, but Harrison is on the same level. He slammed that Browns fan to the ground a few years ago, during last years Superbowl he punked out someone so bad on a punt or kick-off, that John Madden was super upset. Not to mention the legendary "Pick -six" at the end of the first half. GOD I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!!!!:banger

Hopefully the running game gets going this week (against a Bears D minus Urlacher, it should). I wouldn't be surprised to see Hester burn someone deep for a TD. Let's face it, Cutler is going to get picked at least twice in this game, cause Forte is going to be shut down.

09-21-2009, 08:10 AM
What was up with Jeff Reed? He's the most reliable guy on the team and he couldn't kick two field goals? There had to be some bad juju down on that field. :tf

I think the bomb into the end zone was the wrong call on 3rd and 2 at the end of the game.

At least the Pats lost too.

I know, who would have freakin' thought that!! Not being able to run the ball against a so-so defense minus Urlacher is ridiculous. I'm just going to have to say it, Parker needs to be benched and replaced by Mendenhall.

The only way the Steelers repeat is if they learn how to run the ball. Luckily their schedule stacks up favorably.

Troy Polamalu All Over Orthopedic Clinic

PITTSBURGH—Steelers safety Troy Polamalu reportedly wreaked havoc on the Tri-State Orthopedics Clinic Monday, flailing around wildly on his crutches and violently knocking over unsuspecting physical therapy patients while rehabilitating the sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. "The guy is nuts," physical therapist Josh Buckner said. "Troy goes at top speed on those crutches at all times and just throws his entire body into people. I've never seen someone try to recover from an injury with such reckless abandon." Although several staff members attempted to recommend resting, icing, and elevating the knee, Polamalu reportedly hopped away on one foot so he could disrupt a group of elderly patients working on flexibility exercises.

:tdAs a member of the Steeler Nation, I'm callin' out Jeff "Skippy" Reed. Enough is enough. Missed field goals, dumb-ass behavior off the field, and a no guts, girlie-man attempt, at stopping a kick-off return. He wants to act tough, and destroy paper towel dispensers, and get ticketed for drunk and disorderly last week, but when it comes to making an open field tackle, your balls are not to be found. Your a coward, and I hope that the powers that be bench your skirt wearin' ass.

All steeler fans are required to
send a fruitbasket to that jackass Favre, he's the biggest reason Steelers won the game. You call Reed a coward Mikey? What about those two weak ass tackle attempts by Favre on his int and fumble that were returned for touches?
Yeah, he looked really "tough" on those, given how he likes to play up the how tough he is myth:r

Brett is 40, Vic. I'm 42 and if I took one snap in the NFL, I'd be in the ICU for 6 to 8 weeks.
Brett got splattered by James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley (a couple times each) yesterday, and as I remember, he walked off the field under his own power yesterday.
He's either incredibly tough or completely mental. :r
He certainly didn't lose that game for Minnesota yesterday, either. Despite having the Steelers line under his shirt all day, he made precision passes that got dropped at least a half dozen times.
I'd contend that those drops were clearly fear-induced. Even though Troy was 80% yesterday (I saw at least two hits where Troy didn't finish his tackles or wrap the guys up), any opponent within 50 yards of him has to be scared to death.
Remember Greg Lloyd? :D

Scott, I get where you're coming from, but those turnovers were Favres fault, and if he's either afraid or unwilling to make a tackle, he doesn't belong on the field. That may sound harsh, but he's paid a lot of money to be a football player, and football players need toake tackles sometimes. If he's too old to do that, he's too old to be out there IMHO

Mikey202
10-26-2009, 10:35 AM
Well, Favre is another story. I'm glad he didn't attempt to tackle anyone:D If I was a Vikings fan, I might call him out. I kinda lost some respect for him with the whole I'm retired, wait...no i'm not Diva deal.

I'm just suprised at how Jeff Reed has acted since we won the Superbowl last year, and is still out there kickin' for us.

shilala

Vic, I just typed a gorgeous line about how Brett brings intangibles, and it got wiped away by a software glitch.
To make a short story of it, consider for a moment that this is the NFL, it's a business, and if I'm paying the bill, Brett isn't allowed to tackle anyone, ever.
That scenario makes a lot more sense than "afraid or unwilling".
A couple more quick things...
It took Minnesota 12 weeks to win 6 games last year, and they had pretty much the softest schedule in the nfl.
They finished 10-6, and got beat by the Eagles in the first round.
They were two or three bounces from handing the Steelers their ass yesterday.
All things considered, they're pretty much the same team except for Brett.
Had they played the Steelers at this time last year, they'd still be trying to add up the score, despite the fact the Steelers were struggling. :r

Oh yeah, one of the intangibles...
He drew Casey Hampton offsides twice yesterday with cadence.
That's how good Brett is. :tu

Commander Quan

That was a much better game than I was expecting. I would have like to have seen Dixon move around and run more than he did, instead of giving the ball to Mendenhall and Parker who just run straight into the pile every time.

I think our biggest issue is on special teams which completely blows. Have we even had a run back go past mid field this year? And the other teams have no issue returning a kick or punt out to at least their own 40 .

Too bad the NFL has turned into the PFL. You can't hit anybody anymore. Mundy's job is to hit people, How is he suppose to pull out at full speed just when the guy dropped the ball. Steelers football of make them pay when the catch ball is coming to an end thanks to these new lame penalties. Keep it simple one team tries to score while the other team tries to stop them.

It's hard to hate the Bungholes when they hardly ever win. However, they are getting the job done this year (so far) and the Steelers weak ass secondary has been exposed without the killer pass rush they had last year. I'll start believing the Bengals are good when they beat a good team (like the Vikings) and no, the Steelers and Ravens are NOT good teams (this year). I'd be surprised if they win a playoff game, and happy when their fans return to the quiet normally observed from one of the most losing teams in NFL history.

I am a die hard Steelers Fan and I have not seen them play this bad since we won Super Bowl XL. In my opinion they are playing with no heart. There is no fire in the locker room. They play like they just dont care. The defense cant stop anything. The offense is very transparent. They only have a few formations and I can damn near call the play from their formation. Until they get some heart back, and find some new plays/formations, they will continue to play and look like the Bucs.

Football to me if about momentum.
If you are losing into the playoffs, can't be a good thing in that locker room.
How many times has a wild card been the ultimate champion? For the same reasons we cite.
If I were Indy, N.O., and Minnesota, I would be scratching my head trying to make sure a skid is not underway. I know Indy was more about Manning BUT up until he was pulled out, the Jets were still giving them a run for the money, with Indy in tact with all first squad on the field.

Hard to believe the Steelers still have a remote chance. True heart of a champion.

Denver doesn't matter. On another note I'm sick of these teams resting their starters and letting inferior teams in the playoffs. The Pats gave up 3 touchdowns in the last quarter. What a joke! Houston caught a break 2 weeks in a row and will probably get destroyed in the 1st round.

Yeah I wish we kept Mcfadden he has Steelers football runing in his veins. But so many times we blew leads we were passing instead of running, creating 3 and outs or interceptions and putting our tired defenese back on the field. Ike takes alot of heat but I think he is fine, we need to replace gay and let townshend retire.

Another weak attempt to bring my boy down. He must have touch the girl on the butt in the VIP room, in front of his security and all the other girls, that were in the room. Sounds like another slam dunk case for the "victim". Maybe he can claim post tramatic Superbowl withdrawl from not making the Suberbowl again. Or maybe he ate to many Twinkies...... that Defense worked for someone before.:r

"One patron, 21-year-old college student Brandon Harris, said he saw Roethlisberger come in the night before with two or three big men, who were keeping other club goers away from the player. Harris said the group went into a curtained VIP area in the back of the club, and some women were let inside"

Who are these women and what did they think was going to happen when they went into the "curtained VIP area in the back of the club" did they think that Roethlesberger just wanted to hold hands with them? If the guy did rape someone or forced himself on someone he should reap the consequences. If these girls are just getting even because they though if they slept with him he would date them and shower them with jewelry and fame then their malice need to be punished.

I loved that big dumb sumb!tch. Regardless, I can't wait to see him go.
If you've read all the story, and followed it, he needs far more than a suspension. He needs his guts kicked in. Good.
He's fortunate he's untouchable. If he weren't, someone's father or brother would have already fixed him up real good.
Crying shame, the whole story. My heart goes out to these girls and their families.
The whole thing has literally made me ill, and I never wanted to think it true. I've never been so convinced, and I'm probably the kid's biggest fan.

I sincerely hope that no team in the NFL holds a hand out to him. The NFL is very scared about their branding as of late, especially with the economy. I can't see it doing anything but hurting any team that touches him. Don't be surprised if no one touches Ben and he sits for at least a year or two.

Lisa told me we resigned Byron. I haven't seen it in type anywhere. Anyone have a link? I'd like to see Byron back, but I'd much rather see Charlie at the helm. How cool would it be if he took our boys to the Super Bowl and walked off into the sunset?
That'd be a heck of a lead-in for the Dixon kid to blossom. :)

He isn't worth a top ten pick to begin with, and add in the fact that best he has serious issues in interacting with women, and at worst he's a sexual predator, and they'll be lucky to get a third round pick for him.

Dan you got a link to the story?
It's spread out all over. I haven't seen all the info in one place at any time.
The short is that Ben's goons led the girl to the "VIP room", she got uncomfortable and left, fleeing to the bathroom. Ben followed her into the bathroom and raped her. Said bathroom was only available to the "VIP room" and her friends were trying to get to her and were stopped by Ben's cop buddies who were "securing the area". She suffered a lump on her head from trying to get away from the bathroom.
The girl was drunk and felt somewhat responsible, hurt ,and foolish for placing herself in the situation, bringing grief to herself and the family, and dropped the charges to make it all go away.

There's a lot more details to it, but I tried to pare it down best i could.
There are tons of unrelated reports, and Ben has apparently made sport of this sort of thing over the years.
It'll take a bit of doing, but you can chase down all the eyewitness reports from all of the people involved, except his two cop buddies who aren't talking.

The way I understand it, Andy, is that if you take out raping chicks in the bathroom, everything else he did that night is unbecoming of an NFL player. Or anyone, for that matter. You can read about his actions in everyone's statements in the link that Vic provided. Take out all the stuff that points toward the rape charge and it's still a big mess. There were plenty of people there, and they made statements to the police. So did the police who were with him, albeit vague.
Ben isn't good at drinking, and he takes it out there and likes to make a big spectacle. It's not the first time he's been in hot water about the way he parties. So instead of heeding his contracted conduct clauses, he chose to ignore them.
You can read what Goodell said about the suspension right here (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Roethlisberger-suspended-by-NFL-042110).
Add this latest stunt to breaking his skull on the motorcycle, and the other rape charges, and Ben is dragging in all sorts of unwanted attention.
This latest is his third major episode in the last four years.
Take any of his numerous actions, and they would likely get a guy canned even if he works at Walmart.
He doesn't need to be found guilty of rape to lose his job. He already did plenty.

Andy, I think Scott hits the nail right on the head.

I think the author of this article does a fantastic job:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?id=5122538

And I think this particular quote is right on the money:

When Kobe Bryant was entangled in a 2003 rape case, he relied on the idea of familiarity with a press corps that, in truth, he had treated with distance and contempt. In his moment of need, he attempted to trade on his name to discredit his accuser with his famous "Come on guys, you know me" appeal to basketball reporters.

Bryant benefited from the power of the brand of being a ballplayer, and Woods, who has long been disdainful and contemptuous of the press, recently referred to them as "friends" during his news conference.

Perhaps it is a sign of shifting times or Bryant's star power, but some elements of the public responded to Bryant by threatening his accuser. And it is important to remember that the Bryant rape case was dismissed not because Bryant was innocent, but because his accuser had grown weary of the public humiliation of coming forward, having her sexual history revealed, and chose to end the ordeal.

Seven years later, Roethlisberger is not afforded much of the same protection. The segment of the public that sides with him exemplifies a certain sexism and hero worship, a reaction that undoubtedly would be different if the woman were a friend or family member. What matters is that anyone who took the time to read the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's 500-plus-page report, which is now available online, does not support him, and his employers have not defended him. He has no credibility.

I knew that he had been in trouble with the ladies before, but not to that extent. Still, I'm not so sure about his suspension. I don't believe that he is a great guy off the field after all of this, but it is what it is. I know it's not the NFL way, but I would be more satisfied if the Steelers banned him from six games (not gonna happen) rather than the NFL. I guess that shows me as more of a States Rights kind of guy. I do see Goodell's reasoning though.
