He'll never see left-handed pitching in the AL East....:r:r

He will, but he'll see a heckuva lot more right handed pitching ;)

Austin Jackson finally gets his shot.

Guy hit 4 hrs in triple A last season. I know Reggie has proclaimed him the next big thing, but at best Jackson will be a Granderson type player in 3-5 years. Why not make the deal? The winter meetings have gone very well for the Yanks imo.

Mets offer deals to (shocker) Bengie Molina, and (lets pray) Jason Bay.

I was looking for a solid #2 to move everybody down a slot after Johan, but not sure that is going to happen with these deals on the table.

It's official. After two years of not playing, Barry Bonds' agent is reporting that Barry is retiring from baseball.

Too funny...Mets going after Jason Bay. He came up with the Mets...think maybe they regret letting him go years ago?

They said he is not officially retireing, he is just not playing baseball anymore. :r Hopefully we will not have to hear about him for another 3+ years.

After 2 years of no takers, I think he's starting to reailze 45 is a good age to retire.

No disrespect, he IS the home run king after all.

I did not like him when he was a skinny kid playing for the Pirates. When he is eligable for the HoF in a few years the debates are going to take over the sports world. I am looking forward to no Bonds talk for a few years until then.

Philly letting Cliff Lee go for Halladay? I gotta say this is a bonehead move...pay Lee what he wants. He was money for you this year.

MedicCook
12-14-2009, 09:52 PM
I can see the reasoning if they felt like they were not going to be able to resign him after this year. They will have Doc for the next 4 years nows and they keep their #1 pitching prospect.

The other news is that Lackey and the Red Sox are close to a deal and the Red Sox have made an offer to the Cuban defector.

kelmac07
12-14-2009, 10:09 PM
But Drabek is part of the deal...I just don't see their reasoning. They just don't want to wrap a whole ton of money into Lee.

MedicCook

That's a change from what I heard earlier then. It still could fall apart and the Yankees get him. :r

I don't mind the way the trade is looking. Philly with Lee and Halladay would be quite scary. Philly with just Halladay makes them a little bit better, but not considerably so.

The other moves don't bother me so much. Lackey going to Boston was actually a bit of a relief, rather him than Halladay. He's a very good pitcher but not a great one imho. The Yankees can hit him. And I think they are crazy giving him a bigger contract than what Burnett got, he's not as good as AJ.

Cameron is old and no Bay or Holliday. He's past his prime, I hope he becomes Bostons everyday left fielder :tu

MedicCook

Cameron also has played very little in LF and now he will be playing in the hardest LF in baseball.

Sox pick up Juan Pierre for a leadoff role.

The White Sox are looking a lot better going into 2010. They have one of the best pitching rotations Ive seen in years.

Angels locked up Matsui. Guess that means Vlad is done with the Angels. Matsui was a good player, i'll miss him.

Don't start Ryan!!! And don't say that out loud...Mets are looking for a corner outfielder with power (just don't need another AGING veteran past his prime). :D

One thing Bay will have to learn at CitiField is not to go for the HR but try for the double in the gap. I don't think you will see someone from the Mets lead the league in HRs.

Oh, you must mean the other Cliff Lee!! :r :r

Felix and then Cliff ... I can hardly wait :ss

But still stuck with the "old" Griffey.

But still stuck with the "old" Griffey.

I don't think it will matter so much. The Mariners already had the lowest era among starters in the AL, Lee just made them even better. Given how much the Angels lost, I actually think the Mariners have a real good shot of winning their division. They just need to get one more bat, which I think they will do before spring training starts.

Jason Bay is a New York Met. 4 years $66M.

He would not take that from the Sox, they offered him that back in spring training.
Last week his agent came begging the Sox to sign him, looks like they told him to take a hike? We spent all our free agent money on Lackey.

The BoSox had decent pitching last season, but could not hit enough. Now they are trying to improve their pitching, yet have even less at the plate. Really, how many 2-1 games can you win anyway? Am I wrong here?

That is the rumor that is being reported in the Boston media.
The Mets were the only offer he had, that ball park is not a home run hitters park.
Now that the market is set it will be interesting were Holliday goes.

Citifield is a real bad place for him. This is where the greed shows and hurts a player long term. He could have stayed in Boston in a ballpark that is perfect for him. Nice and small with a shallow LF which would prolong his career in the field. Instead he tries to go for more money and winds up in a bad place (no offense Mac).

You hit the nail on the head Ryan, that is the same deal Boston offered him.
He will be sucking wind if don't pass the physical.
Yes he will get a contract with a lot of escape clauses for the Mets ?

I really think there is going to be a huge drop in power numbers for him in 2010 with the Mets. Also he needs at least 1 trip to the DL. He is a Met. :r

Bay is 10,000,000 reasons why it'd make really good sense for 2010. :)
He's a good kid. I'm surprised Boston didn't try to keep him. They obviously know his health a little better than the Mets. They didn't hang on to Johnny Damon, either. Same scenario.
Boston got the best for their money with both ballplayers and cut them loose when the time was right.

The Red Sox wanted Bay back but they would not play the game. Same thing with Damon and the Yankees. Yankees made their offer Damon said no Yankees moved on.
