The Yankees web site has an acticle talking about what he would have to do to pass Pete Rose in all time hits. He would need 8 years wit han average of 190 hits a year. Not sure if he would be able to do that. Lots of things have to work perfectly over the next 8 years for that to happen.

The Yankees and Blue Jays just had a huge brawl.

2 Jays hitters got hit tonight. Retaliation is a pitch behind Posada. Posada has words & Benches clear, nothing happens. Later in the inning Posada scores and the pitcher just happens to position himself in Posada's way to the dugout. Posada gives him a little elbow shove, pitcher has words at Posada and all hell breaks loose. Yankees manager Giradi has a mouse under his eye, the Blue Jays pitcher has a big swollen spot on his head.

While I don't agree with the pitching behind Posada thing...what he did was straight "bush league". He is a well respected veteran that definetly knows better. He deserved to get tossed, although I think Carlson got the worst of that (did you see that knot on his head?). He's gonna be suspended for five games and they are trying to stay hot while rolling to the end with the best record in the AL...not a smart move for sure.

MedicCook

In what way? It is not like they are going to be pitching Sergio Mitre in the postseason. They will be going with CC, Pettitte, Burnett in the division series, then add in Joba in the ALCS.

So you think they go with the one day rest series, versus the 2 day rest series? Especially if they draw the Tigers and that's a good way to avoid seeing Verlander twice.

They are only going to Verlander once because they are going to sweep Detroit. :r

Actually barring a sweep they will see Verlander twice no matter which format they pick. The Yankees are also being smart with CC and not pushing his starts too deep down the stretch. The Brewers burnt him out last September and he was spent before postseason started.

That's a pretty bold statement...with Verlander, Jackson, and Porcello. I agree that they are doing the right thing with CC by not burning him out. Joba needs to stay in the bullpen to be effective...with him, Hughes and Rivera...tough 7,8,9 innings for any team.

I was mostly joking on the sweep thing. The Yankees primary bullpen is awesome without Joba, and if you add him in there for round 1 it is a scary sight for the other team.

The bench is great also. Molina is the best backup catcher in baseball and is a much better defensive catcher that Posada, then you have Gardner who is one of the fastest players in baseball, Harriston Jr. was a great pick up and he can play every position if needed. Hopefully it will be a good October in NY.

During the game tonight they did not know why he was appealing. Possibly waiting until Posada is back on Sunday so as not to have 2 hitters gone from the bench at the same time.

I like Pudge. I think he was one of the best all-around catchers in the last 20 years. But that was is was. I don't see him helping Texas much. Could be wrong - we'll see.

Not to get off the A-Rod thing - or the obligatory Met-bashing (:D) - but let's revisit this post of mine from 8/20/09. At the time, some here disagreed with my assessment. One could argue that, since the Rangers were in the thick of things when they acquired Pudge yet ended up out of it, I would be right by default even had he hit like Babe Ruth. Well, he didn't. In 28 games Pudge got 98 ABs and only 24 hits - 8 doubles and merely 2 HRs. He knocked in 13 RBIs, got 5 base-on-balls, had 18 Ks, and ended with a middlin' .245 average, a poor .279 OBP, and a crappy .388 slugging percentage.

;s But hey, if Ivan were even half the player he once was, the Yanks would have resigned him.

I doubt it. Bad pitching and age has caught up with the Mets and I don't see much help coming from within the organization. They gonna need more than two pitchers to compete with the likes of the Phillies and Marlins. Heck, maybe even the Nats with Strasburg coming.

Mets need to dump Minaya, fire Emanuel, get rid of some of the castoffs they picked up, draft better, and start the rebuilding process.

Injuries played a huge part, you need to remember Joe that they were in first place six weeks into the season when Reyes and Delgado went down. I'm not saying the mets don't need help, I know exactly what I'd try to work on if I were Omar (since he is likely not to be fired.)

The Mets need 2 things, first and foremost, a #2 starter and a power hitting First Basemen.

Wow, as I'm writing this post Jeff Wilpon and Omar are Francesa. Anyways I digress.

The Mets need to acquire John Lackey. Adding a solid #2 starter with gritty stuff and pushing everybody down in the rotation, making a Pelf a #3 and hopefully Maine a #4. Not really sure about #5 but Niese, and Nieve both looked good at times and have potential. The bullpen is solid, keep KRod, don't pick up option Putz, make sure to keep Feliciano.

As for the Field; well Catching is a weakness, but livable with Santos, and a veteran backup. I would let Delgado walk, and try anything I could to get Adrian Gonzalez from SD. (Parnell, F-Mart, whatever it takes) Happy with Wright/Reyes/Castillo at 3rd, SS, 2nd as is.

Beltran is the best player on the team and should not be traded even if he wants his contract extension. Francoeur in right is fine, and than in left, they need to get lucky. They need a Bobby Abreau, type signing. A 5 million dollar outfielder whos going to hit .280, drive in 80, score 80, and hit 20 or so homers. With The wagner/delgado/putz money coming off the payroll, I sea no reason why the Mets can't improve in all three areas, and be an 85-90 win team next season.

They were one inning away from the World Series 3 years ago, and yes they have folded previously down the stretch, but all things being equal, I think a healthy team, with a few key additions will be very competitive in the NL east next season..
The Yankees trimmed fat off the payroll last year, almost 50 million, and went out and got 3 players, #1 Starter, #2 Starter and an MVP caliber first basemen, which put them over the top. If the Mets do half as well as the Yankees with the 30-40 million they will have left they will be a very good team next season.

Which is a shame because the Pirates are producing great your players and then giving them away. They need an ownership that is not afraid to spend money in order to make money. Instead they have greedy onwers who take the free money from the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers & Mets every year and pocket it.

Great win for the Yankees.

Yeah, I hear that they bought the ump that was 10 feet away from the fair ball that bounced out in left field that Mauer hit as well.

It must feel really great to have the best paid ball players and umps in the whole league.

OH WELL, at least I know that even though the Twins lost, they are actually there to play the game and not try to see how much money they can make.

Not over yet, we'll see what we'll see I guess.

Just like the Twins bought the ump that was one foot away from Inge? :r

There's a human element to the game, umps miss calls, everything happens super fast, deal with it. It's a part of the game. Maybe if the Twins had produced when they had runners in scoring position, or maybe made less bonehead mistakes in the field it wouldn't have gone to extra innings. But they did, paid for it, and the Yanks played better ball and won.

Bobby Abreu gets a raise from the Angels. 2 years $19M.

The Red Sox traded for outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins for left-handed pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez.

Jermaine Dye informed the White Sox he was going enact his 2010 option for $12M, the White Sox promptly declined the option and gave him the $950,000 buyout.

The Diamondback picked up the 2010 option for Brandon Webb.

I don't think it was that extensive. Not sure if it was elbow or shoulder.

Tuesday, Nov. 17 AL Cy Young Award
Wednesday, Nov. 18 AL & NL Manager of the Year Award
Thursday, Nov. 19 NL Cy Young Award
Tuesday, Nov. 24 NL MVP Award

I don't know why they don't have the AL MVP Award listed though.

Probably because he was expected to have a good winning team. The award is also voted on before postseason starts.

I think the Angels had more negatives happen to them starting with the death, then having most of their starters go on the DL, and some other big position player injuries. I really never expect a Yankees Manager to ever win this award. It is difficult for any Yankee to win these awards since they have so many haters amoung the sports writers.

Roy Halladay has put some pressure on the Blue Jays and the rest of baseball. It is being reported that he will only approve a trade this offseason. If he is not traded before he reports to spring training he will not waive his no-trade clause because he does not want to deal with what happened this past season.

I think he had a good chance at making the Yankees roster in 2010 if they left the outfield as is. I could have seen Austin in CF, Melky in RF, Gardner in LF with Swisher playing mostly DH and giving a break to the 3 outfielders. The lineup definately looks better with CG though.

Actually he hit .249 ;) He also hit thirty home runs, is fast in the field, stole 20 bases, hit 23 doubles and 8 triples, had 71 RBIs and 91 runs, and was an all star last year. The only knock against him is he struggles mightily against left handed pitching. But thats okay, I think we will see an improvement in just about every category next year. Kevin Long and that short porch will help him a ton :2
