Just slacking off

Hello,
I need wireless network help please. I currently have a linksys wrt54g router and a linksys wre54g range expander. The distance from the router to where I am trying to connect is about 125ft.(Outside back yard man cave/shed) Router is in house by the rear door and range expander is in detached garage about 60ft from the router. I constantly drop signal. Sometime rebooting cable modem, router, expander will help for a short time. Are there any routers that will reach 125ft without an expander? I have Comcast internet Performance plus or whatever. 16Mpbs Any help or advice appreciated

http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448 if you are a do it yourselfer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantenna you can buy premade versions in a number of places for around 20-25$ They narrow spectrum so it is a direct line back to your house so you are not broadcasting your signal to all of your neighbors. |

Hey! Have you tried different channels? Check you manual for setting this. You may be just clashing with a neighbor's router. |

Coax goes to the modem, then wire to router.

No one blames you. Did you look into a wireless N router. May give you that added distance and less heads cruising the spectrum.

i would def try changing the channels, 125 ft really isnt that far, i have a linksys wireless n and i can reach my family's house and its a good 250-300 ft from my house. My dad has an older wireless g linksys, and i can hit his from my house as well, so i know its not the wireless n in particular...
At work i install a D-Link 655, and it has a pretty good range aswell, i would def try the channel change, i usually either do a very low number like 3 or a higher number like 9-11, but i think i put mine on 11 right now, which supposedly your not suppose to do for some kind of rules, but owell, it works. Good luck PM me if you need anymore help, i am a network engineer, and i do this for living.... |
