Is there any way to tell what carrier provides a particular cell phone number? I've been receiving a number of calls from a specific phone number. I know it's a cell phone and am trying to discover as much information as possible about the origin of the number.

I ithink it's a kid -- young kid (11 or 12) -- but it's causing some issues in the household.

Googling it will often get you the provider. I often get types of calls. I've never had a full investigation done, but I'm sure that many are pranks from teens that I've coached...what worries me are the one or two disgruntled laborers....especially when it involves my loved ones.

Excellent advice as my wife used to work for AT&T. For those who would like to help and have "access" to phone numbers and are able to find out the people who are calling,,,be very careful as this is against the law and your employer has safeguards to see who is doing a search on cell or home numbers. You may think you can outthink them but you can't as once you do a search it is recorded no matter what steps you might have taken not to trip the search.

Googling isn't illegal and I was posting so that anyone who wanted to "help" out by seeking who was making the call by other means could be illegal. I know that some people have access to phone records and can find out who makes calls. When they do that then it becomes illegal even if you were to do it for "good" reasons. Answers were being given that they had "access" and just didn't want anyone to get in trouble. My wife and son had jobs with the phone companies and they were always being told not to access phone records unless it was authorized by Supervisors in the case we're talking about on this post.

Vin, ,you might want to call your phone company and ask them to block the number. They can do it... it might cost you a few bucks a month, but after a couple months the douches get tired of not being able to get through and give up, or call from a different number.
Also, notify the local PD and tell them that you have been recieving harassing phone calls from that number. You can even make up some chit, like the calls were heavy-breathing or threating. They might pay a visit to the household and have a talk with the little bastards parents.

It's fairly easy to spoof the Caller ID, which can make things more difficult.
I know of one "Vendor" that keeps calling me saying they sell Cuban cigars. I told them that Cuban cigars are illegal and I do not buy them. They once called me with a Caller ID in my local area code so I would answer.

I need to go back into my notes and get the link for you but there is a service that can trace the number to the current carrier, even if that number has been ported from another carrier. Also, extremely easy to call you and make you think it is another number that called you. We did it to my boss in the seminar. He was in another room listening to a different presentation and we called a friend of mine that was with me and used my boss' number to show up on my friend's phone. When we were done, we laughed silly as we showed my boss his number on my friend's phone as having called him yet my boss' phone did not show any dialed calls. Crazy stuff.

In other words, if anyone on this board works for a provider and secures private information for a friend, that is looking to be fired and face lots of issues. However, there are many services and many programs that provide information/databases. Accessing those at a cost to the person seeking the information does not put the person at risk. As an example, there are many vendors that at a fee of something like $29, will provide you anything you want to know about the person by simply giving their cell phone number. As an example, in my business, I can search out any of you to see if you have liens, bankruptcies, on and no. However, to do it for something that does not involve a case we are working on would be seeking to be fired. If I were getting harassing calls, using such a vendor would be something I could easily explain to anyone or any court. However, I would pursue the matter via my personal carrier first.
