My girlfriend teaches at a 90%+ hispanic high (mostly DR) school in Lawrence, MA. There was a discussion with students on swine flu and students said they were not worried as they don't know any Mexicans...

Man, that is just terrible.

However, you guys are totally correct.
Lots of infighting amongst Hispanics and best way to offend one is to tell them they are from certain countries. Works better to incite them than cussing their mother out.
